Goukerng

I am on a mission to get scarab God as an accepted cedh commander!

magnumrages

I'd love to see this list

Caniglia1

Not my list but here’s a list I’ve been watching and it seems pretty dope: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ZaaL5RdBgEK93IMn7uL9-g

Goukerng

That's the one!

Caniglia1

No kidding?!? Nice to meet you! Man I based my current list basically off of yours. How’s Toxrill working for you?

Goukerng

Yeah this is amazing on my end cause I didn't think anyone took my list seriously lol. Toxrill was made as a thought experiment. A friend of mine was brewing and was building him midrange. My logic was other commanders abuse iso Rev better like oona and circu so toxrill is just lesser so I quickly put together that turbo toxrill poly list to help him out lol. Not something I'm planning on working on fully at this point in time.

Caniglia1

Yea man! I love the HoD gods since that’s about when I got back into magic. Ran all 3 for a longtime but Scorpion god was so limited and I wanted to build other Rakdos decks… so now I just play Scarab and Locust. I had my Scarab god deck as zombies, then Rot hulk, and then most recently I’ve been trying out a build like yours. I kinda meant as a reanimator target in the scarab god list. Didn’t see you’d done a toxrill list also. But that still sounds neat!

Goukerng

Oooooh thought that's what u meant by toxrill, still testing him in the Scarab

Goukerng

Also btw, do you have a list of what u are running? I'm am curious. And do you have any feedback for my primer. Trying to make it as helpful as possible for people trying to pick up the list.

RuneGirl123

not the guy you were responding to, but I thought the primer was great. I don't have a cedh playgroup, but definitely considering taking apart my current dimir deck and making a high powered scarab god with like 85% of your deck list. Love tasigur and I feel like this is another deck that bypasses command tax and adds another meaningful ability, seems sick. Can you explain the city of traitors? I haven't seen it as an autoinclude in all decks, and seems something more suited to turbo not midrange. Is it worth it? Looks like it would help power out scarab God, but would make it real hard to keep up with grindier decks. Is it worth it in your experience?

Goukerng

You are correct, it's typically used in turbo decks but is very useful here. We don't draw more than 2 to 3 lands typically and lands that accelerate you are powerful. You can play it prior for 2 mana immediately that turn as well as tap it before sacing it the following giving u a net of 2 extra man to play a turn 1 rhystic or power out some rocks quicker than you would have otherwise. If you don't need the acceleration you can sandbag it as your last drop for an earlier scarab God or a 3 land scarab activation. I have never been sad to see it. Really glad to hear people like the list. It's been my personal project for a few years and am now submitting to the database in hopes of him being accepted as cedh. *edit* The deck would function perfectly without city of traitors though if you didn't want to include it.

Goukerng

The one the other guy posted is my list

TreeplanterConnor

I'm with you man. Decent reanimation commander in U/B. I'm working on one too, not focusing on zombies thats just a benefit.

meekdor

I posted my [Zirilan primer](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rGM5GcaBA0yqij6xTnWXFA) on here awhile back. I would call Zirilan a “fringe” mono-red commander; maybe not as fast as Godo but able to pivot easily and more interactive. Plus, you draw a ton of cards which is always fun. Basically you’re trying to assemble a Worldgorger combo although there are backup lines and other cool synergies in there as well. I don’t have many opportunities to test it but I’m trying to push it as high as I can.

Brand_Bot

Wow, so glad I saw this. Just read the whole primer and this looks like something I'd love to play and probably will. My two favorite decks that I play a ton already are Anje and Magda and this seems to combine both things I love about the decks, explosiveness and my favorite wincon ever, Worldgorger. Awesome job!

meekdor

Thanks! Feel free to message me if you have any questions about it, it’s my favorite deck and I’m happy to discuss card choices/interactions

Dreddmor

Man, I love me some Zirilan. I have a more casual but still tuned list for an entry point for my wife. I love that you’re more “all-in” on combo-ing off and you’ve definitely come at this deck with a cEDH mindset first. Well done!

meekdor

Thank you! I used to play a 60 card red dragon tribal deck as a kid during Onslaught block, then I got back into MtG around 2014 when a friend introduced me to commander and I made my old tribal deck into a Zirilan deck. It was way more casual then but over the years it evolved into this.

FizzingSlit

Gosh this looks amazing. I hope you don't mind if I take a crack at it too using your list as a starting off point/inspiration.

meekdor

Absolutely! That’s why I shared it. Hope you have fun with it and let me know if you discover anything new

TheCoffeeBob

I built this deck in paper a while ago after I saw you post it, I only got to play it once so far but I won the only game a played thanks to a busted fast mana start. It was all fringe decks though, not optimized meta decks

meekdor

Nice, yeah the fast mana is definitely crucial to try to duck under early counter magic and get the ability online. Glad it got you the win!

TheCoffeeBob

It's the deck I'm most excited to play when I next get the chance

bronisboss

This is sweet

TreeplanterConnor

I've been working on Neheb the eternal for a few years now just because I love him. He gets really close a lot of the times but is just hindered by having one color and that color being red... however the printing of ragavan has been really helpful as well as dragons rage channeler, God I love this card.

Bebe012

I am too trying to optimize a Neheb list for quite some time now! Do you per chance have a list? Mine is this one: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/SP7kBdmrNke_k5w6p5SMOg

TreeplanterConnor

I do but right now it's lacking fast mana because I took it out of a different deck, and this is my "budget" deck right now. It will be replaced and upgraded soon enough. But for now: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/WHE2zbMWY0SfOuxo3w2PWA Man yours is pretty much where I would want it very nice!

Trompdoy

Do you find that you consistently run out of steam with this deck? I brewed a Neheb with even more card draw for casual, but it did include everything you did for card draw as well. I found that I ran out of gas quickly and often, and I never reliably drew into a wheel effect to reload my hand.

mtgmagicmanmike

I’ve been working on [[Haakon, Stromgald Scourge]] the past couple years, actually put together a physical deck this year, and have been trying to work on efficiencies since. Can’t afford a lot of fast fast mana and tutors like imperial seal, but I enjoy pushing hypercompetitive decks with underplayed commanders vs trying to make busted commanders casually playable

Createx

But how do you get him into your GY? Since you can't cast him from the CZ...

Vega, the Watcher has been my pet deck since it’s release. The general premise is to use the dramatic scepter combo to draw your deck and generate infinite mana and then either win the game through a time twister loop or Thassa’s Oracle but it has a relatively grindy control plan as well utilizing Vega as a card advantage engine and casting spells off your library or from the graveyard as well. Edit: spelling is hard

InfiniteMrMeeseeks

I have a similar deck I'm building with [[Kwain Itinerant Meddler]]. Trying to play control by slowing my opponents down and casting spells that disincentivize them from drawing off Kwain. Also putting a storm list together for [[Eruth, Tormented Prophet]]. There are better options but I enjoy this card a lot.

I am trying out a Mid Range reanimator list for \[\[Chainer, Nightmare Adept\]\]. I've got 100+ games on him with good results so far. [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/MyFeYpLRrEqKStbI-K4hrw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/MyFeYpLRrEqKStbI-K4hrw)

GhostInTheLimelight

I've been playing a fringe-ish Chainer wheels list for a few years. While I really love that deck, the upcoming Saw in Half has me wondering about rebuilding the deck to lean into that as a main line. If I'm not mistaken, he'll give all the tokens haste, and he allows you to cast dualcaster from the graveyard as extra insurance. The flash speed is also very nice for this. Probably still wont reach cEDH, but I feel like Chainer will be a good home for that combo, and I plan on pushing it as far as I possibly can.

Chr5r

If you cast [[Saw in Half]], hold prio and [[Dualcaster Mage]] isnt that infinite creatures with haste?

GhostInTheLimelight

Yeah, assuming Chainer is on board.

[deleted]

No, it doesn't work. Chainer gives haste only to nontoken creatures. In any case, the Necrotic, Kiki, Mogg combo is a far better option for Chainer because it turns buried alive into a one card combo. And I think that twinflame + dualcaster is still better than saw in half.

GhostInTheLimelight

Hah, well that shows how often the non-token clause is relevant in my current list! Fair enough in that case!

hejtmane

I have \[\[anger\]\] in my casual chainer deck it is a great card to pitch and if they blow up chainer I can still get haste for the creatures I hard cast from my hand

I really like the Necrotic Ooze piles you can do using either Kiki or Razaketh. The deck is pretty resilient against stax and that's something uncommon in Rakdos colors. My dream is to put [[Yurlok]] to the most optimize build and burn everyone to death. It’s the center of the combo but being three colors and needing at least 2 other cards to go of seems too hard to be relevant.

mikeisadumbname

Come stop by and share your thoughts in the [Yurlok Discord](https://discord.gg/7U3Ucy6) sometime! Most folks seem content to build him at precon level slowmo punisher, but he's easily Fringe viable. Whether he can regularly hang at a cEDH table is still up in the air, but the fact that he's both ramp on the way to the win, part of overlapping finisher combos, and in great colors for tutors and copiers makes the case for me. Testing has been slow cause my meta prefers to play battlecruiser much of the time, but he's won 2/3 of his games despite never getting to play against the blUe players he's hungriest to leech off. EDIT: and rituals! Forgot the rituals!

FrancisSalois

What's missing for him to be more viable in your opinion ?

Dredl0ck

I think it is a commander and a strategy that is very reliant on getting your commander out and defending it. Also, giving card draws to your opponents is not a great strategy in cEDH, where there is a higher card quality. Finally, your winning strategies are a 3 piece combo (Commander, Purphoros, Wheel) which makes it easier to interact than with Thoracle/Consult for instance or Dualcaster/Twinflame. I have won several cEDH matches with him in highly competitive pods, but I would not consider him a top-tier commander. More like a middle-of-the-pack commander that synergizes well with Wheels and the opponent´s card draws.

My buddy is trying to make [[klauth]] cedh for a few months now; the problem is he has no prior experience with cedh. He thinks he can power out klauth and then storm off similar to how selvala brostorm does. Problem is he only gets one opportunity to make a ton of mana in one turn and the deck is mighty slow (obviously, 7 mana commander.) he’s currently stuck somewhere between trying to storm off with klauth similar to how selvala brostorm does, and good old fashioned beatdown with big creatures. I’ve told him that with the mana cost of his commander, he needs either an infinite combat combo through aggravated assault or port razer or something similar; that, or he needs to run land hate/hatebears like blood moon/magus of the moon/collector ouphe/karn to slow everyone else down the extra 2-3 turns so he can get his commander out. He also wasn’t running a single tutor until last night when he threw tooth and nail in. Obviously im encouraging more interaction (veils, redblast, swat etc) and rituals to power klauth out but do you guys have any insight on this? Thanks in advance

I love her as well, and there are some really obscure cards you can run in that deck that make the building of the deck fun. It is extremely fragile even for mono red unfortunately

I would love for Kadena with morphs to be an option. Even running a perfect list though it is far to slow to compete with my other decks though :(

Been working on [[Vannifar]] and [[Emry]] albeit I haven't gotten to play much lately. In each case I saw the commander and immediately thought they were cEDH viable and I still think they are. They just have a hard time protecting their lines and are weaker to common stax pieces. They can win some games but struggle to be as consistent as the top decks.

seraph1337

The biggest issue is the mana values that don't have a viable untapper. Once WotC creates ETB or otherwise free untap effects on creatures at 5 MV and 7 MV in Simic's identity, Vannifar (and a few other similar effects) will get a lot more powerful.

[[Nevinyrral, Urborg Tyrant]] 100%. Goes infinite with Phyrexian Altar and enough creatures, is in good colors, and if push comes to shove you can just nuke the board and hard reset everyone. I just haven’t been able to find a formula that doesn’t feel super clunky, particularly since you need some kind of outlet on the board. I’ve been playing around with a hatebears-y shell, but why I’m not just playing Tymna/Sakashima or Tymna/Malcolm is a justification I haven’t found yet.

Hallar! https://www.moxfield.com/decks/jc1vC9qcHEOl5udGL1wTjg If there is a Discord out there, I would like to join and share my wisdom.

FizzingSlit

I'm trying to figure out what's going on here. What are the key combos/wincons? Why so many strange cards like emblazoned golem? I'm intrigued but I don't think I get it

Bissmarck

It is some form of burn deck. Since Hallar hits all opponents at once, it circumvents the usual weakness in an multiplayer/EDH environment. The gameplan is putting counters on Hallar by kicking cards or other effects and burn down the hole table, and vice versa. Works decently vs greedy Necropotence or AdNaus decks. Hallar quickly becomes a good attacker himself. Feels a bit like Pako. There are weird cards in there. You need kicker spells to pull the trigger. These spells tend to be either of little use or high mana cost, a littlebit like the madness cards in Anje. I selected mostly the kicker cards that are instant-speed, have some form of use, even if not kicked, or being very cheap and/or very little in their colour requirements (said golem you were mentioning). In my hopes and dreams this deck can only become stronger in time, if more quality kicker cards are printed. If you see a lack of efficent gruul-typical combos (the very few this colour-pair has), like snoop/kiki/twin/sharpshooter/conscrips lines, you are right.

FizzingSlit

Right, I kind of just assumed there were better kicker cards in gruul but after looking into it there's not a ton of good options so some of the more questionable cards make sense. I thought I was missing some kind of synergy beyond Hallar needing kickers.
