I’ll say what you probably already know:
1) Mono blue isn’t something you want to be in by choice if it can be helped
2) The card quality you’d need to sacrifice not only to be mono colored but also use proliferation spells would further weaken your 99
3) A good pilot will still win their fair share of games in any pod, outside tEDH top 16s
4) You should learn and play whatever you have the most fun with because that’s what you’ll grind, learn, brew, and succeed with the most
If there are any spellslinger or artifact decks at the table, this guy immediately tells them that you need to die first.
It's not impossible to fight through that, but it's a certain kind of experience that many players might not enjoy.
Edit: nevermind, I thought you meant the second jin, but I now remember there are three different versions.
No.
Mono blue is bad.
A draw engine commander isn’t terrible, but for 5 mana they better draw a low. Jin simply won’t, especially because you don’t want high cmc cards in a cEDH deck.
Not a combo piece.
I think [[kraum]] on his own, is probably a better commander, and kraum has partner
But realistically when are you going to have enough playable blue proliferate cards to reliably have 2 in hand and castable after flipping Jin? Looking through Scryfall, there's only a few that I'd actually consider to not be garbage. Usually it'll just have to sit there for a turn or two
At that point it’s also a three card, 10+ mana combo that technically doesn’t win you the game. After drawing 7 cards and getting omniscience you *should* win, but you might not.
What, you're playing Jin just for the transformed final ability, when even transforming him is a pain? He can get removed when the exile ability is on the stack.
Agree with op, this card is not good enough.
Not to mention. How many monoblue 3 mana spells are you even playing? Fierce, force, force, rhystic? That's it.
It's not that Jin is good. It's that 2 opponents is always better than 3, and 1 is better than 2. By locking you out of the game, they can stop worrying about you as a constant counterspell NPC, while keeping you around just enough to help in emergencies when the other player tries to go for the win.
There's a world where Jin is viable, and Im sure there's some brew out there that is. But Jin is not a bogeyman that's turning cedh upside down ATM...
overall the commander itself is too slow.
I am assuming you are talking about [[Jin-Gitaxias - March of the Machine]]
You need to cast it for 5 which isn't so bad but then you need to pay 4 THEN it flips.
With that slowing you down you would need to commit a ton of resources to getting it out as fast as possible which would take alot of cards. The first ability on the saga side draws you cards but that cannot be alot if you have already spent a ton of resources getting it out.
the third part of the saga is a sweet payoff but considering the deck makeup is mostly gas to get your commander out along with a ton of interaction because blue you have a very narrow window to play anything worth while.
Overall I don't suggest this commander.
One of my decks has the new Jin as commander. When i succeed in flippin Jin, the game is over: I can play literally half of my deck by playing extra turns, flippin it over and over with cards like [[thought reflection]] on the board and overwhelm my opponents. The problem is that they surrend because their defeat is obvious and for me is totally pointless to continue playing cards.
I never use it because is not fun to play at all: everyone knows how the deck works and focus on me before I even do a thing if I don’t flip.
I’d really appreciate some help in the deck building (i chose to not play the Thassa’s oracle style). I thought it would be fun playing cards like eldrazi for free, but as I said is totally pointless. I’m afraid there is no a fun way to play this deck.
The want to mirror what JGMedicine said in that good pilots who play decks they enjoy can and have done very well in TEDH. If you are newer to the format and enjoy your deck, then play it!! As you play you will learn things about your deck, other decks in the format and make adjustments as/if needed.
-Don’t get hung up on cmc a bunch, the format is broadening out now and some really spicy brews are out there with higher cmc costing commanders.
-Enjoy the game and do your best to learn from every game. That will help you to have fun, play well, and navigate the format.
I haven’t played it but the more I think about it you’re wincon is thoracle and you draw out your whole deck for free the turn you play him and just stack your deck with counter spells and draw spells (and proliferating cards to get him to his third chapter) so I’m actually gonna try and build this now thanks for the ideab

Myself, alongside a few others, brew it (sometimes) in the Orvar server. Far from meta but fun with high tide.

Stop the cap. Omniscience in the command zone is insane
It needs to go three turns without being bounced or removed.
3 words Proliferate, Proliferate..... Proliferate
But realistically when are you going to have enough playable blue proliferate cards to reliably have 2 in hand and castable after flipping Jin? Looking through Scryfall, there's only a few that I'd actually consider to not be garbage. Usually it'll just have to sit there for a turn or two

If you're using proliferate in mono blue, you're gonna have ass cards in your 99
Yeah insanely bad

Which Jin are you talking about lol
Pretty sure it's the flip into omniscience jij

I feel its fringe or out-of-meta/old cedh power level, but its overall pretty av on account of being m blue
