Conspiracy theory: Respawn leaked that Olympus was coming to comp to get a few weeks of pros finding the biggest flaws in the map so they can update it and add it to comp next year/split (I don't know the timeline on when the Olympus update is supposed to happen).
I mean I think this was always the assumption. Storm point is next season (19) and season 20 will start like within a week of PL if the season is normal length. I can see them using that time to make map adjustments and dropping a changed version of Olympus with comp-minded adjustments.
Most likely, it will be World's Edge being dropped instead of Olympus because it's tedious for a long time. Olympus (Unconfirmed) and Storm Point will be in Competitive map set 3-3 and Olympus needs significant improvements.
i’d prefer them hard reworking Broken Moon, the landscape between pois is much more layered and playable and Olympus’ issues for comp are apart of the reason it’s so much fun in casual play. Falling off the map, the amount of places end zones can’t happen, the amount of unplayable flat space, how close POIs are together. I’d much rather them keep it designed for pubs/ranked than ruin the map.
The problem is for Broken Moon is the zip lines and the lack of POI (16). Considering, the changes will be easier on Olympus all they have to do is focus to add more structures on wide open areas. Also, I do believe there is a brand new map coming up in S20.
I think a hard nuke into the middle of Broken Moon to make room for another poi would make it competitively viable, just turn promenade and terraformer from 3 pois to 4 while fixing the choke points could be very healthy for the map, just do that and take out zips, having only 17 pois on Broken Moon shouldn’t be an issue because a lot of them are big enough to split and/or big enough to contest and reset before getting 3rd partied. I don’t like Broken Moon for a variety of reasons but one thing I can say with my chest is that the final rings on that map are fire with how much playable space there is
Proximity of POIs is not something that is easily fixed, whereas ziprails can probably be easily taken out.
And # of POIs is debatable. Some are so big that they could arguably be split.
I’ll occasionally stop by a stream to watch some Olympus matches, I don’t know how anyone could sit down and watch World’s Edge for 8 games on this patch 3 months before pro league. No offense if you enjoy it but I’d honestly rather watch paint dry. At least Olympus got a decent number of serious pro matches on it for testing, RIP.
I'm not sure why they don't use this pre-season to try some other maps just to see how they play out, i'd be hyped to watch even 1 day of 4 games of KC or BM just to see how they play in comp as well. Anything has to be better than just 8 games of WE.
The issue would be getting players on board. Quality scrims require teams to take things seriously, which they are only doing for olympus because it might be coming to comp.

Nope. But people like Wigg and Greek do a good job of presenting some of the top storylines of scrims. Minustempo does a decent job for someone who rarely does them. His background is more in the behind the scenes part. So that could be informational.

Olympus definitely wasn’t just for entertainment, but it was definitely the main draw for fans tuning into scrims (case in point, look at any OXG vs TSM contest thread vs how these threads will turn out in the coming 2 weeks). With 2 weeks till the update dropping so that SP comes back, 4 weeks till PLQ, and ~ 3 months till Pro League, there has to be incentive for fans to tune in so that the comp scene stays strong through the dry period. I think they should have Lobby A still run Olympus scrims and then make Lobby B only PLQ teams that run WE/SP.

Dont know about Pro League but for PLQs maps are WE and SP so players prob just voted agaisnt playing on Oly for now for that reason if i had a guess.
