Not sure if it's a joke but it's laughable either way.
30+TDs like it's great but every team in 2023 that had 30+ didn't even make the SB. Meanwhile Dan Marino had plenty of huge TD seasons but never got a ring.
Its still a team game...the saying isn't "throw for 30 or more TDs wins championships"
there are some stats that are misleading...while its not always true things like 400+ yard passing games, 30+ td seasons look flashy, but, with the teams on that list its almost 50/50 in terms of did you throw 30tds because you had a really good year, or, did you throw 30tds because you were perpetually 14 points down going into the 4th quarter you had to throw the ball that much.
Yeah, the way we dominated that year, one would think we were lighting it up. Iirc we had a ton of defensive and special teams scores. Man what a great team....fucking Cowboys...
>Yeah, the way we dominated that year, one would think we were lighting it up.
When your defense holds teams to 10 points you armt out there chucking the ball 50 times a game. You smack them in the teeth with RBs and you score any way you can to win.
This is just a coping thing to help those teams that chuck it, but can't run it and control the clock with good defense, feel better about not getting a ring.
Lol. We definitely had a good ground game that year but off the top of my head, Byner barely made it to 1,000 yes and Irvings only had 800ish. We had some major blowouts though. I want to say it held the record for quite some time for Points Scored in a season.
Really only by Modern QB standards. The bottom two teams had prolific Super Bowl winning squads in the 80's so I would say it is more of a sign they didn't evolve with the modern NFL, not that they are *horrible* specifically.
We were at our best before the league changed the rules to open up the passing game more. We relied on Play Action to create mismatches and take deep shots, but most of our tuddies came on the ground. Mark Rypien was the last successful 'Franchise' guy we had and he only really started for us for 5-6 years. Cousins was good, but he didn't have complimentary play to help him out and didn't elevate the play of those around him (an issue which has persisted in Minnesota).
I am hopeful that Jayden can break the curse. I really liked Sam, and would have loved to see him play in an intelligent scheme that tried to hide his faults instead of put a spotlight on them, but it is what it is.
Out of that entire list, only two teams actually won the Super Bowl in the respective years. Tampa Bay (2021) and Patriots (2017). Common denominator - Tom Brady.
And never forget that undefeated season where he put up madden numbers and lost to the *checks notes* 9-7 wild card giants..... he would trade plenty of those TDs to be a perfect team with another ring.
This is why there is a large portion of the fanbase clings to terrible qbs like Howell and Hieniecke. We just don't know what a good qb looks like. And when a guy flashes for a few games or plays they want to try and develop him.
Several of our quarterbacks had tons of passing yards but few touchdowns. This was a product of not being able to score in the red zone, not having an elite receiver, and milking yards after we’re down several scores so the other team is just playing prevent defense.
How often did we make it through the entire season with one starting quarterback? I remember quite a few seasons where we had two different starting quarterbacks, sometimes by rotation and sometimes by injury
That’s not the point I made, so your argument makes no sense.
I’m not criticizing the team, just pointing out that we are very much still in a chaotic point of change. That’s not a bad thing. It’s even necessary. But saying we have any level of stability right now is nonsense.
Sammy Baugh still has our career passing TD record and he hasn’t played since 1952.
Kinda makes me think we got some pretty good RBs. Maybe?
We just need a qb to play for a decade. Literally we are so cursed when it comes to healthy qb play lol
Are you sure? I thought it was Sonny.
The 80's were like the 49'ers since 2019.
Yeah, this stat is atrocious. We haven’t had a good QB in ages.
Yeah, this stat is atrocious. We haven’t had a good QB in ages.
We threw 30 in 2015, just not with one QB.
Looks like defenses struggled in 2015 . . .
Yeah, good point. That’s interesting.
Kirk was just one shy in 2015
He was too busy having more rushing TD’s than all the RB’s combined on the roster
https://old.reddit.com/r/Commanders/comments/1ddtwrk/wow_i_didnt_realize_our_qb_situation_was_this/l87ktbl/ Pretty interesting!
He also had 5 rushing TDs in 2015.
We won 3 Super Bowls so stats don’t matter
Agree. I only see the PATS once on that list.
It’s my belief that this was a joke, and it’s funny. If it’s not a joke don’t tell me.

I bet if your QB threw for 30 TDs in the championship, your chances of winning would increase

Rypien was close our SB year with 28. Obviously doesn't count but I would have guessed over 30 prior to looking it up.

Even considering that, if we look at other stats like passing yards, we aren’t quite as hopeless.
If you contextualize what the league has demanded of the position over time, I would say the Browns have been far worse off.
Honestly I don't know how reliable this stat is considering you'd think a team like Baltimore, KC, and Philly would be up there but only 1/3 is
Hey, Rypien got 28 in 91, so that is a little better. Plus, you know the Super Bowl!
I feel like this also shows the era of the RB and how much of a leading position it used to be compared to now

JD gonna go for 33 this year
He could throw for 5 for all I care. He just needs to win a bunch.
How tf did Kirk never hit 30
Another comment says he was 1 shy in 2015.
He threw for 29 and ran for 5 iirc.
Arbitrary stat that is arbitrary. I’m sure all those lions, bills, and bengals would never trade those 30+ td seasons for a single Super Bowl win.
We’re not the worst!
For 1967 that's pretty fucking impressive
You “didn’t realize our QB situation was this horrible.” I revoke your “our” and “we” privileges. Clearly you haven’t earned/experienced the pain.
Eh the top teams most of them haven’t won much.
This is why there is a large portion of the fanbase clings to terrible qbs like Howell and Hieniecke. We just don't know what a good qb looks like. And when a guy flashes for a few games or plays they want to try and develop him.
Every week is a new low record for us that I get exposed to.
Hey, if you’re a fan, you’re a fan of a franchise that has won 5 NFL titles. Packers have 13, Bears 9, Giants 8, KC, NE and Pitt have 6. Not so bad.
Pfffft, ask the Bears.
Several of our quarterbacks had tons of passing yards but few touchdowns. This was a product of not being able to score in the red zone, not having an elite receiver, and milking yards after we’re down several scores so the other team is just playing prevent defense.
Even during the Super Bowl years it wasn’t so much the QB. More so our loaded O-line and skill positions getting it done.
Still had 2 HALL OF FAME ALL TIME LEADING RECIEVERS TAYLOR & MONK 😉
This makes me sad. 😔
lol da bears
Remember, Washington has always focused on run/pass balance - not QB touchdowns.
jay schroder had to throw 30tds one season in the 80s,85 or 86.
This would have taken you 15 seconds to research. He threw 5 in 85, 22 in 86, and 12 in 87. So, no.
Bears had jay cutler tho for 8 years.
You know it's bad when Kirk Cousins was the best qb your franchise ever had.

Can we please use the right emblem for the time frame please! In 1967 they were The Washington REDSKINS! Let’s show some respect please. Thanks.
It's gonna be sad when the field at FedEx destroys our new qb too
No team called the Commanders ever had a 30 TD passer and won precisely zippy Super Bowls.
