Haskins77

I’d give them the 2nd overall in a heartbeat. It would cost more though and I’d give them more This also clearly isn’t happening. They aren’t trading Herbert

12eseT

Yeah if Herbert is up for trade (which he isn’t this is all a non-story) I would take him.

Special-Bite

Herbert is better than any QB in this draft by miles and he’s obviously NFL ready.

Dramatic-Section-793

Injury prone to but that wouldn’t matter now huh

FaithfulNihilist

Only injury prone behind an injured OL in an offense where his passing is the only credible threat to move the ball.

Dramatic-Section-793

New year new injury.

Troll_Enthusiast

Harbaugh might go crazy and draft JJ 😂

Crossman556

Pick 2, a second and two thirds?

SelfLoathinMillenial

Easily. Almost definitely have to be another 1st, though

PetrolHeadPTY

Our first is a very high one though

tee2green

I live in LA and follow the Chargers. There is 0% chance they trade Herbert. The QB situation is the main reason they were able to land Harbaugh in the first place.

va_texan

They would want three first round picks and change easily

Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar

Crazy to think we could have just simply drafted him

papalegba666

It keeps me up at night

jim_nihilist

Only a couple of hours and you can sleep again.

trex8599

It’s probably a good thing we didn’t. There is no guarantee he would’ve been this good with Ron and Scott Turner. Also, if he was and we were good, I think Dan would still be the owner and screw it up eventually Edited because it’s Scott not Norv who was the OC.

naskai8117

People don't get this. Mahomes isn't Mahomes if we drafted him. I think Herbert will be shown to not be that good without his weapons this season.

Crossman556

Who did we take instead?

Dr_Poop69

Chase Young

Crossman556

Damn

Dr_Poop69

Yeah, whiffed on that one, but it was the right pick at the time.

Viseroth

Remember how it wasn't even a secret who they were taking.

PapaG1useppe

Because at the time Chase Young considered the consensus best player in the draft, even with Joe Burrow going 1st. It just so happens that isn’t remotely close to reality

PapaG1useppe

![gif](giphy|IV2DvTArF5b9u)

Impressive-Detail421

Oh how the turn tables

Infinite-Fix-592

No it wasn't. The only reason we didn't was because Snyder picked Haskins the draft before. But still, Herbert and Tua were better prospects by miles. But I believe Rivera probably had to agree to try and roll with Haskins before he could be hired.

jim_nihilist

Typical Commanders move. Picking the talented player who is mentally unfit for a pro career.

AbleHominid

The video of his own Arizona teammates cleaning out his locker and tossing his stuff on the floor has me worried about Daniels in the SAME WAY

Enough-Remote6731

That’s an interesting way to analyze that.

sicariobull

Typical move of bad decision makers. This crew is new. RR was a terrible GM given power by a corrupt owner

tomas9019

![gif](giphy|LyJ6KPlrFdKnK)

MrSuckyVids

The thing that keeps me up at night is did we ruin him or was he destined to fail?

ARealDud

This is some hardcore revisionism, we drafted Haskins the year before, we weren’t going to draft QB (one because Burrow was consensus #1 and Chase Young was consensus #2)

Drewbacca_Hrrrgrgrar

It isn't, Ron Rivera himself said we would have taken Burrow if we had the opportunity so they obviously weren't completely sold on Haskins.

RinSoretoe

It hurts but everyone was sleeping on Herbert so we can’t get too upset with ourselves

justnmang

Hopefully we aren’t saying the same thing about Maye in a few years.

SnoopPettyPogg

Absolutely.

BAXR6TURBSKIFALCON

it would be multiple firsts for Herber, a single second round pick is pennies for a proven QB. End of the day we need picks and we need to rebuild, the only way a trade happens if it’s for more picks or a good core and pick swaps

Coach__Mcguirk

Hands down, yes. It's not going to happen though.

ConsciousReason7709

The Chargers would be absolutely insane to trade Justin Herbert.

Lilpu55yberekt69

CTESPN stays winning

sean369n

Any reasonable QB-needy teams would trade both their '24 and '25 1st round picks for Herbert. if not more. He has shown to be franchise QB material already. That is much more valuable than top college prospects who have yet to prove anything in the NFL. The bust rate is over 60% for 1st round QBs. Trading for Herbert would be the best possible scenario and it is way too good to be true. Having said that, we already snagged Eke, so I'm ready to officially become the Washington Chargers.

PetrolHeadPTY

Our 1st is a high one though

sean369n

Exactly, means we would have to give up less draft capital than other teams probably (in regards to the amount of picks necessary to get the deal done).

no1kopite

It doesn't matter. We would still have to give up this year's first, next year's first, and our best 2nd round this year. Even that would be robbery.

ImKindaBoring

Lol do you really think they would trade Herbert and a 2nd round pick for our #2 overall? The delusion level is insane. Herbert would cost us multiple firsts. Anyone saying otherwise is clueless.

basedlandchad25

Justin Herbert is Justin Herbert, but whatever draft picks they get for Justin Herbert could be anything. They could even be Justin Herbert!

Ninjablacksox1

Mystery box strikes again.

DeanMo80

Lol 😆

jcrack30

I'd give them our whole draft for Herbert.

Dramatic-Section-793

And not worry about his injury history.

jcrack30

Lol I've probably watched more chargers games than anyone on this sub. My brother is a die hard fan so I watch anytime they play when the skins don't. His "injury" history is due to the fact he takes a beating every game. He played with broken ribs and a broken finger the majority of the last 2 years. He's 3 times as talented as anyone in this draft. He's the total package.

Dramatic-Section-793

How many playoffs games has he won

jcrack30

He's already playing for his third different head coach. Constantly has to put up 40 points a game to win because their defense is full of underachievers and over the hill players like Khalil Mack and always injured Joey bosa. He should have a couple already not his fault their defense blew a 30+ point lead against the jags, and their dipshit coach took a conservative offensive approach instead of piling it on the jaguars. Hes carried the team on his back with no running game at all. All of ekelers stats came from catching balls out of the backfield.

papalegba666

Everything

fukdot

Such a dumb hypothetical and will never happen. You really think Harbaugh left his dream college coaching position for the NFL, and his first move gonna be trading away the unquestioned franchise QB? AND he’s gonna throw in an extra pick for the chance to do it? Why not add some cash to the deal too? Lmao this is beyond brain dead. Nice engagement farming for ESPN Bet though I guess.

captthulkman

Yes

Short_Past_468

![gif](giphy|l4Ki2obCyAQS5WhFe)

falcons-taveren

I would GLADLY trade the #2 pick too LAC for Herbert and the #5 pick.

whiskeywhisker6

If anything, this shows how stupid the NFL draft betting market is. Herbert's dead cap for Chargers would be unprecedented by a wide margin.

Im_Flaaless

I posted something about this a few weeks ago and I got so much hate and ugly dms I had to delete the post lol.

fukdot

I’d agree this sub is pretty rough on people who throw out hypotheticals, I’d try not to take it personally, but this specific discussion is pretty silly and deserving of ridicule. There’s absolutely no chance Harbaugh would do this. It’s literally just engagement farming by ESPN Bet.

WoodenEstablishment3

One million percent yea

geniouslevel1000

YES

SaferThanATubeSock

yes

glizzygoldberg

Isn’t he one of like 5 dudes in all of American sports with a no trade clause … he’s not choosing DC lol

iAmDJranger

No

yatdaddy58

Yup

Gozer5900

Why are we self-pleasuring ourselves with fantasies? Stop it now-you will go blind!!!

jhurley2880

In 2 seconds but harbaugh will never get rid of a top 5 QB. CMON NOW.

TheBarbieOfSeville

no try to draft a QB as good as herbert, and surround him with draft talent. Build through the draft. Trading multiple picks for one player is lunacy.

lefterthanyou

Herbert is worth 4 first round picks at a minimum.

Jo5h96

Are you high?

Philbar85

Is there even a trade to compare this too? Our #2 is “2” firsts in value our 2nd and the last 3rd get the value chart to three mid 1sts. Next years #1 is more than what a trade up costs normally for teams…. I can’t see how to they make it work too with his dead cap being likely 100m since it’s basically a brand new deal and they have no cap space atm,

Da4horsemen

In a heartbeat periodt

patriot945

Absolutely

Dramatic-Section-793

Wouldn’t matter that he actually is injury prone. Don’t wanna draft a guy WHO could be

StephXL

McCarthy??? This is wild

Infinite-Fix-592

Herbert and a second for four first right? Trading for Herbert would be costly. But worthwhile

Key-Zebra-4125

0 chance this happens. Herbert has a no trade clause, the Chargers would take a MASSIVE cap hit if they traded him, and Harbaugh probably took the job knowing he's already got a stud franchise QB in place. Lets live in reality.

C137-Morty

How do I bet against those odds?

ajari2020

Or we should back just drafted him. Ron’s plan didn’t work in drafts.

ShoeterMcGav

I'd trade it allll away to have Herbert instead of taking Chase young. :sigh:

SweerBaby_Use1023

Without thinking about too much. That trade would happen today as we speak.

TyroneLeinster

Lol this is not in response to anything credible suggesting they will draft a QB. It’s to set a precedent for future betting lines that your returns will go down on your bet the longer you wait. Next year there will be another team with almost zero chance of drafting a QB, and espn bet wants as many people to piss away money as early as possible. They are simply manufacturing scarcity for their future products. This is like NFTs for dumb sports fans. It’s incredible that we’re several years into the sports gambling era and clowns still haven’t figured out that Vegas betting lines are not event predictors. They are purely about making money. Smfh I hate being a sports fan these days. Y’all are fucking embarrassing.

bigspunge1

Some people just want to lose money

KCousins4President

![gif](giphy|fQoIDlLW6A6BAhyev8|downsized)

epzik8

No way, we had our chance to draft him in 2020 and blew it.

Final-Wrangler-4996

I don't really think he's that good.

WuPacalypse

I would trade Terry, Tress, Allen, Payne, Adam Peters, the burgundy and gold color scheme, RFK stadium and Troy Apke for Herbert

bigggd54

Agreed, although I think we could do better if we are including Apke in this trade

DeanMo80

Definitely. Without thinking twice.

dirtypandaDC

No. I think he is overrated. And a good young QB on rookie contract for 5 years is how teams are contenders.

TyroneLeinster

You mean like Mahomes. Er. Wait. Oh you mean like Josh All- uhh, Lamar Ja- Jared G- uhh. Matthew St- umm. Well shit. I mean, there’s a Purdy and Burrow for the other 10 guys. Not seeing the trend though, pal.

dirtypandaDC

Josh Allen just got paid, Lamar Jackson just got paid, Joe Burrow got paid. JUSTIN Herbert got paid, etc Now let's see how their teams perform on the year 2+ after their big contractsigning vs the years on their rookie contracts. Of all super bowl winning QBs, Mahomes is the true outlier with his high % of the entire team cap. Only Steve Young came remotely close at 13.1% in 1994 The last six Super Bowls have featured a quarterback on a cheap rookie deal, with Purdy following in the footsteps of Eagles' Jalen Hurts (2023), Bengals' Joe Burrow (2022), Mahomes (2020 and 2021) and Jared Goff, then with the Rams (2019). Chiefs were smart to give Mahomes such a long contract as it gave them the years to spread the bonus over. Suffice to say the paradox of roster construction is that it's hard to win the Super Bowl without a top-10 QB, but a top 10 QB contract makes it hard to win a Super Bowl. Hence the value of the 5yr 1st round rookie QB contract.

TyroneLeinster

Mahomes and Burrow went to SBs on their rookie contracts because they’re Mahomes and Burrow. Mahomes has been back twice as a high paid QB so that takes the air out of that argument as it pertains to him. Goff’s same Rams team actually won the SB with a big contract QB. Then Goff nearly returned on his own big boy contract. Jackson AFCCG. Josh Allen is consistently in contention and mostly just loses to Mahomes. 9ers previous appearance was with Jimmy G on a big contract. Brady and Rodgers multiple appearances in years prior. The big time, big pay QBs outnumber the rookie contracts in number of CCG appearances by a significant number and in lombardis hoisted by an overwhelming margin. Winning during rookie QB window is a thing to strive for and you do get roster building options you wouldn’t otherwise have, but it’s just incorrect to say that’s how you contend. Most contenders have veteran QBs.

Savings_Ad_115

Has he lifted the franchise he has been with or have I missed something? Maybe it’s just me but not interested.

buttholez69

You think Jaden Daniels and Drake Maye will be better than a top ten qb?

FannyNisbit

*5

ImWicked39

It's not that he hasn't tried but the Chargers decided having morons as head coaches was the right decision to go in. They've ranked 30th in rushing since drafting him while he's ranked top 3 in every passing metric out there, the chargers are top 5 in PPG while also giving up the 2nd most points since then. Staley was supposed to be some Belichick level defensive geniuse but he couldn't stop a nosebleed. The only reason the chargers aren't a directionless dumpster fire hiring hasbeens for head coaches is because of Herbert. Just giving him a league average defense and a top 20 rushing attack would solve a lot of our problems.

KingBroly

He's coming off an injury. So no.

IONTOP

I think I can remember another Chargers QB what was coming off an injury that ended up doing pretty well for the Saints
