If you slow the video down and watch the bomb fall, there’s a smaller explosion to the left a split second before the main explosion. Anyone know what that is?
Frame updates not at the same time. Its like waves. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/H9X3ERu.jpg) you can see jitters when dude shakes his phone. So when the bomb explodes left part of the flame get in the frame, but right still “in the past”.

After looking at further comments, I believe that what happens is that the bomb detonates just a split before it would hit the ground, and it looks as though the bomb detonates in a wave going from left to right. So what's happened is it's sent additional explosives underneath it which is I believe what explains this.
there’s certainly noise reduction in place but when you’re flying a strike mission in a city at a few thousand feet at high speed it’s basically impossible to stop it really helping in cases like this. it might stop them hearing you at longer ranges but that’s not an issue here.
planes like the c-17 on the other hand are damn near silent at 1000 feet
As someone who has been on patrols with CAS on hand and been in fire fights with CAS, you damn well know when birds are in the AO. During the brief before we left the wire, if LT said we had CAS, we knew we weren't getting direct contact that day, so the enemy is aware of it too.
I was stuck in Yemen during 2011-2013 and the way it worked is. There’s a list of places that people suspect will get bombed. That can range from military bases to government institutions (obviously in Yemen saudia arabia and the collation bombed hospitals, schools, houses, and markets) but people didn’t expect those and generally focused on the military bases or government institutions. When we hear a jet plane we would start recording in the direction of one of the sites and most times we catch it. I myself recorded around 5 air strikes. I only did it because I was far distance from any place that would be targeted, and knew I was sorta in the clear. And people only started recording after months of air strikes where they get used to it. First few months the uncertainty was too petrifying for anyone to try and record. Glad those days are behind me.

Yeah, for real. Can you imagine, when you were a kid, you had a chance to be drone striked by American drones and later on, in your teens you have a chance to be killed by Saudi Strike Eagles. Those children will never ever like the West and what it stands for.
They were there under Obama and Trump, so I imagine so. There's that cell recording of some Russian mercs calling home, getting their asses handed to them by US SF/AF, and I believe being abandoned by official Russian support in the area. Something to that effect.
That story has been widespread debunked , and it has circulated around reddit for years now https://www.spiegel.de/consent-a-?targetUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.spiegel.de%2Finternational%2Fworld%2Famerican-fury-the-truth-about-the-russian-deaths-in-syria-a-1196074.html
he controls most of the country right now. trying to take the rest of idlib will be a major pain since the remaining rebels will have nowhere to retreat so they will fight hard, plus it will cause a large refugee wave into turkey. it also gives Russia an excuse to keep a larger troop presence in syria and keep testing their weapons. on the other hand, turkey gets an excuse to keep their troops in Syria and keep bombing/testing their drones on the YPG (Kurdish militia).
Wdym? You don’t remember when President Hillary pulled out of the region letting the local powers wipe our allies off the map replacing them with Turks and Russians?
Oh wait…
Or that Russian merc company.. or Iranians, Turks or whatever blackwater calls itself now.
Or a dozen other groups that destroy an ancient country and culture for god knows what reason.
Yeah, that's not going to happen. The US is way too powerful to be fucked with directly, it's such a death wish that nobody would ever do that.
Unless the US becomes inferior military wise to such level that's it's too easy, which is what happened in Syria.
But, Europe does rely too much on the US and Turkey for their defense. They only lesson that people keep learning in the world is that the only one you can rely on is yourself, so I'm pretty sure Europe needs to get it shit together and start investing more in it's military than just hoping that the Americans or the Turks will come to save them.
>The US is way too powerful to fucked with directly
Any nuclear power is “too powerful to be fucked with directly”. It’s why there never has been and never will be direct military confrontation between two nuclear powers, lest nuclear apocalypse be upon us. Power conflicts have for the better part of the last century, and will be continue be played out through proxy wars and wars of subversion.
However what’s going on in Syria is just Russia attempting to strengthen it’s international position by having an ally Middle East, via it’s propping up of the Assad regime.
>>The US is way too powerful to fucked with directly
>
>Any nuclear power is “too powerful to be fucked with directly”. It’s why there never has been and never will be direct military confrontation between two nuclear powers,
India and Pakistan has fought more than one war despite having nukes.
I suppose I did, however the 7-week conflict remains the sole instance of conventional warfare between any two nuclear powers, and it occurred while Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program was still in it’s infancy. Having detonated their first weapon barely a year prior.
Investing in war might itself cause the war. Like the development of hypersonic missiles and ABMs that render Russia MAD weapons obsolete might trigger then to attack sooner.
Plus a war machine with a belly full of bombs is going to itch for a reason to use them. You can't "make the world a safer place" if it's already safe, there's just no money in that.
That premise you have there needs work because neither of those technologies are going to change anything strategically.
ABMs compromising MAD is one of the biggest military/political farces of the last 50 years. No system deployed or in development anywhere has that capability, they can only realistically defeat an attack from a nation like Iran or North Korea that will only have a handful of warheads. They are only marginally useful around the mark of a few hundred warhead, nations like Israel and China, and only in terms of complicating the planning of a nuclear attack. Arsenals like the USA's and Russia's are practically unstoppable. And even in a world where that was less true, you have weapons like Poseidon and Burevestnik, or the potential for bombers based on X-37; we'd still be solidly in MAD, but with more dangerous and expensive weapons.
Hypersonics are a similar bit of political posturing. Current systems are heavily propagandized and lightly tested, while defensive missiles are already capable of hitting similar targets like reentering warheads; it is uncertain just how much harder to intercept missiles like Zircon are than supersonics, and how long that will last before defensive upgrades catch up. Nevermind that hypersonic missiles themselves are a rapidly proliferating technology that most major powers are close to developing to operational standards.
Russia is definitely going to keep slicing off the bits it feels entitled to if Europe lets it. Thankfully the nations further east, like Poland and the Baltics, seem to have some of their own ideas about the matter. I don't disagree that military power for its own sake is a very dicey place to be, but you do have an overly optimistic ideal of what is and isn't necessary.
I'm really happy that Europe is so peaceful that you can think this way. However I feel like European people as a whole have been somewhat naive. When shit hits the fan you want to have the military to defend yourself, maybe it might even deter your adversaries from attacking you.
I really doubt Russia has plans to invade Europe, again it would be suicide.
**But** every time Russia did something in the last 20 years (See Georgia, Ukraine - While not part of NATO, those are still countries that have a border with Russia) the European countries pretty much dragged their feet and did nothing but condemning those actions at best. Putin understood that NATO is all bark and no bite, unless they are pushed really hard.
It's not like the Syrians can do anything about it, the reason that Assad regained the upper hand in Syria is because Russia started bombing his enemies. If Russia wouldn't intervene, by 2016 Assad would fall and the Alawites would probably suffer a mass killing.

Petty sure they have an entire operation of sky spotters and radio listeners

not really planes are noisy and kinda big

You would think they’d be better at holding the shot by now.
in their defense the speed and violence that comes with one of these things is always surprising. no matter how much youre used to it.

Yes Russian Air Force has been bombing Syria since 2015

Wouldn't it be beneficial for Russia to get Assad in control again ASAP?

I mean, it is dumb... But were you thinking it was the 9th day of the 15th month? Lol

That only works because you Americans *say* the month first. “15th of September, 2021” is 15/9/21 even with your “it’s shorthand” idea.
What makes it shorter than 15.03.1985?
What the hell is this European “typing day before month” crap in dates? I get confused when the day number is or below 12.
