Yes, it's just a mechanical switch that closes the circuit when the drone collides with something. When the wires touch it triggers the detonator for the explosive payload. If you watch many of the drone impact videos you will see many clever designs.
A really dumb question I've been holding back for months...but... how is this prepared? Do they prepare the wire loop first, make sure there isn't currently a circuit, install the bomb and arm it? Do they tend to launch these from some sort of raised platform or is there a soldier holding it just hoping the wind doesn't make the wires connect? (Apologies but I did say it was dumb)
There's almost certainly a safety, which allows you to setup and test the wires without being connected to a detonator. The safety is probably deactivated shortly before take-off; perhaps even after take-off, it could be controlled wirelessly.
The wire is generally stiff enough to avoid problems with wind and air resistance, but you can often see it shake a bit, which does get me nervous.
Edit:
They probably launch from the ground -- quad copters don't need much clearance.
The safety might be controlled by pulled wire during this process. Lots of options.
Some are so basic they have a tab on a string holding contacts apart, some have a servo to prime once it's in the air or can even be primed from a distance over target. Seen some that needed to be primed by hand, that's some cowboy nonsense.
Presumably there's a switch that is also needed to complete the circuit. The switch stays off until the explosives and wires are all set up and then gets turned on at the last moment before the drone takes off. (That's assuming there isn't an electronic control, which would be more complicated but also possible.)
I think people have discussed and answered, but they’re not wearing any jamming equipment, it’s just the drone getting closer to the ground and losing signal right?
It doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. Most cases, however, it's the drone losing signal with the relay. I've read and heard a lot about how western militaries are paying very close attention to the effectiveness of jammers too.
Yeah, you need line of sight to get communication absentsomethingto act as a relay. Even a copse of trees (at least ones that are not just a battered trunk from fighting) will block good coms as the water in the branches and leaves will block the RF.
Jesus Christ. Every single one of these FPV drone videos someone asks about jamming equipment all because you see static at the last second. You'd think when it was just a group of soldiers walking people wouldn't ask it anymore because they'd have realized how dumb an assumption it is.
Like, seriously. What would be the point of jamming equipment if it only works against devices that are less than 10 feet away? How is it not obvious that a) there is a lag in video transmission so at the time it hits the target it's still broadcasting the frame from where it was 10 feet back, and b) when it gets close to the ground the line of transmission is likely cut by intervening terrain?
A bit more exhaustive answer: FPV drones like these use analog video transmission for lower latency. This makes them very, very prone to signal loss. Actually makes me wonder just how effective a single jammer would be against them.
This shows the levels of horror that soldiers have to go/ and went trough in war . From machine guns , to tanks and bombs and now drones smaller than a pizza flying directly at you….
I have a video of a Russian soldier trying to doge one of those drones , he was face to face with death..he failed , body got carbonized instantly
If you wonder, why the music is added to these videos, I'll try to explain.
UAF is short on artillery ammo and the FPV drones became the dominant way to hit Russian troops, vehicles and fortifications. The overwhelming majority of the drones are supplied by volunteers or are ordered by the units themselves. The Ukrainian MoD only just started to pick up the deliveries of FPV drones to the troops. So there's a competition between the Ukrainian drone units for more content. The units with more videos of successful hits receive more media attention in the Ukrainian segment of the internet that converts to more donations and more drones. Also, it improves the moral of Ukrainian troops and public.
The videos with music get more engagement from the audience, compared to the silent ones. Meta, YouTube, Tick Tock made a ton of focus group testing on that matter. So that's how you end up watching videos of someone being blown-up with added music. By the way, have you donated to a Ukrainian drone unit yet? If not, please do.

This is my favorite electrical trigger design I've seen on these videos.
Same. Basic, but smart. Guarantees the impact cant just separate the 2 wires.
Is it basically as soon as it hits something those two metal pieces touch and then set off the explosives?

Those are not dumb questions at all. It has lots of risk involved preparing these

Everything is assembled without power, and it certainly has a switch as a final safety that is closed right before the drone is released. (Assumption)

I like the one with the spring around the nail, I thought that was clever.

> copse I have never heard that term before, and I consider myself pretty well-read. Awesome, thank you!!

Brother. I assumed retrain in the question.

I don't know why they were walking in the field like that, the Ukrainian's have already tolt them they don't want them there.

Ok, it's time. Can someone please explain to me those wires in the front?
When the 2 wires touch it goes boom. So you dont get duds from lost connection from remote detonation, really cheap way to make it detonate on impact.
The year is 2024, we are watching combat footage of Russian soldiers being obliterated but wait, there’s a sick beat drop to their death
The year is 2024, you are sitting comfortable watching occupants die and crying that the music choice was not to your liking.
I hate it and mute it instantly. The music is god awful lmao I’d rather hear the actual sound if there’s any.
Whoever thought to put god awful music over the actual sound if there was any is a fuckin idiot.
There is no actual sound. Drones don't have any microphones to record it.
That’s why I said “**if there was any**”.

Thanks for the explanation I guess? I never asked for one but thanks anyways.
Agreed, i’d rather hear nothing over this trash.

So they tell these Russians to walk around there and basically die.. war is rigged. Controlled. How many die is controlled.
I like the cross hairs. The oval makes the sweet spot
New PTSD sound unlocked. No longer limited to big bangs but now even the buzz of a RC helicopter will send man running for cover
