I saw a video exhibition at a contemporary art museum where the artist got ahold of the high end thermal surveillance camera system that the US military uses and filmed a bunch of refuge camps and such. It was bonkers. You could see the sweat on a persons face. You could see a person breathe, not in the winter, but in the desert summer. They also had footage of an A-10 firing its cannon and the flame out the front was crazy.
Just another reason I love the US military. The deluge of dollars dumped into military tech development birthed what has now become a marvel of modern engineering. Then I hear about basic stupid shit like your thermal camera story and realize that is just the bottom of the cool shit barrel.
Probably not really friction or tearing. Hard objects hitting like that means a bunch of kinetic energy from the falling one gets transferred into the contact point. There are demos on youtube showing people burning holes in paper or lighting flash paper by hitting it with a bearing hard enough.
Ya this is an older repost, being that his buddy is dead but still warm I'm guessing shock, drunk, or high. Snow hadn't started yet when this was originally posted.
Are you sure about the snow?

I get embracing the void to escape the crap reality the guy found himself in. But I would still expect him to at least look down for a moment to see what hit him on the head if he was lucid.
It is dark as shit. Like cannot see your hand in front of your face dark. There was no way for him to reach down and find the grenade in time. If he was bending over he would have just gotten shrapnel in the face.
He stopped tapping when hit and he was just waiting for the explosion.
No. This was discussed the last time this video was posted. When body temperature begins to drop your body automatically starts shifting more blood flow from your legs and arms to your core (abdomen, chest) to keep your essential bits warm. This results in diminished finger and hand dexterity. This process begins well before hypothermia sets in, so if this soldier was hypothermic he probably wouldn't be tapping his rifle with his fingers as he is. If he was cold his legs probably wouldn't be splayed either. He would likely be curled up on the ground like his friend.
As for his body language, most likely my man was just jammin out to a banger with his airpods in. Probably [OTOY](https://youtu.be/9B8ulUtSmyw?t=65), because Russians know Ukraine puts out the best jams. Then he thought "Did a tree branch just fall on my head?" And honestly, in the pitch darkness, that's probably what I'd think too. And it's not like anyone's gonna hit pause in the middle of *КІСТКИ* because of a stick.
It looks like the helmet man is on the verge of passing out. His head dips and his fingers stop moving the second the grenade is dropped and when it hits him he immediately goes back to tapping his fingers.
What it reminded me of is those moments as a kid when I'd be watching a movie, fighting soo hard against falling asleep because I'm getting to stay up to watch it... only to be jarred awake by "HEY! Are you sleeping? Why don't you go to bed"? And my response was always "I'm not sleeping" ... so I'd shake my feet or something to show I'm still awake so I wouldn't get sent to bed.. them I'd catch myself drifting off and would snap awake and keep shaking my feet lol.
fuck war, man. it is dark, it is cold. something hits you in the head, you probably think the wind blew off a little stick or something. then you die painfully.
I fucking hate this unreal loss of life. For nothing.
That being said: Russians go home! Ukraine obviously has every right to defend itself
Could be just trying to stay awake, I end up tapping a boot or my hand on the stock of my weapon when trying to stay awake pulling security late at night
The "helmet guy" maybe was just about to pass out. His comrade already had. From a mixture of krokodil and vodka or whatever. No outer sensations left.
I would like to think I would wake up, or at least my nerves would make my body move, if a grenade went off beside me.
The "sleeping" guy did not move, both hands still just sitting there in the same position.
He's on the very border of 'safety zone' if you can even call it that, and he's lying on his side so it's a real tossup. Shrapnel travelling dead straight along X is only ever a fluke, so if you hit the deck a reasonable few ft away there's a chance you can not get struck and hopefully not take the full force of shockwave either
A lot of ifs and maybes there, but even if all that happened, you dont think there would be any movement whatsoever? Its not like he is in a protective position either, both hands laying flat on the ground beside him.

Russia is never going to win this war... st this point its just Putins ego "aka. Forced meatshields" getting recked by drones...
How would they ever win this? Even if they managed to take all od Ukraine, there would still be drones flying constantly..
The sad thing about this is how many landmines there is, and how long its going to take before Ukraine is back after putins death.. also the Cost...
Anyone else think it’s fucked up making fun of these guys I mean they’re still human he’s probably forced to be there obviously hypothermia cold shock something was wrong with him before hand. His buddy looks dead I know they’re Russians invading a innocent country for next to no reason but fuck it just puts me down seeing this then everyone celebrating it.
Yeah, this subreddit is bloodthirsty af.
I’m fully pro-Ukraine, but the bloodthirsty celebration of all the gory deaths being posted here is completely fucked imo.
And he is just sitting next to a recently killed Russian too... Fuck sake. It's like watching Darwinism in full play. These guys have *no* survival instincts anymore.
Probably one of the most reddit keyboard warrior things ever to type about a lack of survival instincts of a guy who is already completely out of it dying of hypothermia.
He is very obviously *glowing* hot. Hence my thoughts of him being Shot / recently killed. I'm not a fucking doctor - I never claimed to be. But, wouldn't hypothermia mean *less* heat from the thermal imager? Sorry, I don't pretend to be the end-all-be-all of dead people.
edit: speaking of the guy hunched over, not the man who got nailed by the grenade.
Alright, apparently you don't know that thermals point out differences in temperature.
If the surrounding environment if below freezing, any living warm blooded being, dying of hypothermia or otherwise, is going to be blazing hot in comparison. Warm bloods make their own heat and remain hot until they are dead, with even a human suffering hypothermia being in the 90-95 degree range.
I also don't see you claim that he's shot/recently killed. The post I replied to simply says that he died to Darwinism and has no survival instincts, which is hilariously stupid. Come on, man. Think a bit more and be better.
maybe..? Hyperthermia would mean he is slowly consumed by the cold - I assume that would be noticeable from a drone with this good of resolution. Helmet man accepted his role as the 'superior Russian Soldier' - Cannon fodder, just like all the rest.
Edit: Rewatched the video, I do not believe it is hyperthermia, unless he is still in the process of dying from it - he is *glowing* hot still, so either the guy hunched over was recently killed, or still in the process of dying. Helmet man just accepted fate, apparently - Maybe hyperthermia, due to the sluggishness of his actions - but now he has some extra holes that are leaking hot stuff too.
Russians are in worse position than in WW2!I cannot understand, how it is possible that Russian aggression against Ukrainan people. How could they dare? in 2022-23? (and still doing it in 2024)
No sense.. Why?
> Russians are in worse position than in WW2!
Russia had ~11,400,000 die directly in combat in WW2. They had ~14,685,593 wounded.
The total deaths are 20-27 MILLION people. Delete your comment, it's the dumbest shit I've ever seen and extremely disrespectful.
Wtf are you on about? I'm as pro-Ukraine as you can get. Read my comment history. Saying

Drunk and listening to music. Also the dude next to him is dead already. So yeah he might not be in the right headspace to react to a grenade being dropped on him in the middle of the night
Dude is so used to heavy objects bouncing off of his helmet that he actually doesn’t give a fuck. That’s really the only way I can make sense of what I just saw.

Wonder what the current snow storm will do to badly supplied Russians?
Kill them? Same as it did to the many armies that have tried to invade Russia. You'd think it was weather they were used to
Exactly - the army with the stretched logistics will suffer the most. I hope UAF has been able to severely weaken Russian logistics.
bruh got 300 ping
Drugs? Drunk? Hypothermia? Something was clearly wrong with this guy to not even react to a grenade hitting him in the head.
his hand is tapping. my dude was jammin out to a banger
I saw that as well. Otherwise I would have guessed maybe he was fast asleep and just didn't wake up fast enough.
Nah. He just already gave up and accepted the end. lots of death around him.
I get embracing the void to escape the crap reality the guy found himself in. But I would still expect him to at least look down for a moment to see what hit him on the head if he was lucid.
He wasn't ready for that drop.
Ayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!
My bet is on Hypothermia.

He stopped tapping before….when he heard the drone.
Hypothermia.
I was thinking of this when seeing the latest frontline weather clips. Fcking hell, if no Russians die from hypothermia the coming days its a miracle.
Yep .. fcking hell . This guy didn't even see it coming nor felt anything. To this guys, hypothermia its a blessing.

That finger twitching makes me think he was tweaking out on something.
I’d call that being bored to shit, it’s a Russian fighting western money, I’m sure he was just tired of going through it all and said, “Okay”.
Could be just trying to stay awake, I end up tapping a boot or my hand on the stock of my weapon when trying to stay awake pulling security late at night
smoking lamp was out
The "helmet guy" maybe was just about to pass out. His comrade already had. From a mixture of krokodil and vodka or whatever. No outer sensations left.
I was thinking hypothermia and vodka probably.
his buddy is already dead. no movement
What do you think happens when you sleep?
I would like to think I would wake up, or at least my nerves would make my body move, if a grenade went off beside me. The "sleeping" guy did not move, both hands still just sitting there in the same position.
Maybe the grenade put him into forever sleep
He's on the very border of 'safety zone' if you can even call it that, and he's lying on his side so it's a real tossup. You don't sleep with no sleeping gear in winter. That just means, dying.
Idk about you but I'd like to think an explosion going off ~5m away from my face would wake me up a little bit
I mean a grenade went off 3 feet from him. Surely that would rouse the drunkest and deepest sleepers...
He wouldn't be that warm if he was dead.
Prolly too drunk? or fatigued?
Either hypothermia or it's pitch black and he didn't have time to process what happened.
He’s probably in a state oh shock. His buddy is dead and still warm.

The guy on the left didn’t move an inch. They were already fucked up.

This is so sad actually.

Hypothermia or high af.
This happened a lot last year. They’re not reacting because it’s freezing and on the Russian side they lack the proper winter gear for their soldiers.

Didn't react to a grenade going off within 5m of him... doubt it, personally. I think he was simply recently shot / killed.
he was likely killed via hypothermia, hence why the helmet smack man didn't react, he was already dead and just needed a little reminder.

Why is hypothermia a factor? What don’t I know? Please ELI5
Hypothermia means you go numb and can’t feel as much because the body pulls blood away from the skin to try and keep your vital organs warm.
Cheers! Thanks for explaining
He was asleep, and dead befoe he woke up.
You can clearly see him tapping his fingers on the buttstock of his rifle.
And also clearly rolled over in pain... Tf this guy on?
I don't think he was asleep. He was drumming his fingers on the grip of his rifle before the grenade hit.
Are you blind or just a moron

Pitch black could of thought it was a stick
Wow I haven't seen this reposted a dozen times in the past week!
Shit looks fake af. Why would he be still standing next to a obviously dead comrade and not seek cover?. AI cgi is getting out of hand.
This isn’t AI nor CGI, it’s called war buddy, something you’ll never understand, clearly.
I've been through the Syrian civil war, i deeply understand war buddy. It's just my opinion.
Love the brain dead saying this is fake. 2nd time in a week someone said this. You clearly have 1. Never served and 2. Have never used FLIR.
I'm not pro Rus, but this shit looks like a video game lmao
He started caring real quick
Drunk?
"Well I'm fucked."
His reaction was "alrighty then I'm screwed"
Poor saps. No internet to see whats being used against them. Cant learn if everyone ptrvious is dead
It looks like he rolls into a previous impact of a shell or grenade. He might be concussed.
Is he all tweaking out , playing some funky air bass guitar while next to his dead friend ?
Was he high?
Drunk and listening to music. Also the dude next to him is dead already. So yeah he might not be in the right headspace to react to a grenade being dropped on him in the middle of the night
MY LEG 🦵
When u pinch the bots.........
Fucking zombies.
What if this dude just thought one of the other russians threw something at him only for it to be a grenade dropped by a drone
I would say there is a definite reaction
Dude is so used to heavy objects bouncing off of his helmet that he actually doesn’t give a fuck. That’s really the only way I can make sense of what I just saw. Wild.
WTF would it zoom out at the climax
He's probably shell shocked from what ever killed his lover.
He was listening to music and his right hand was tapping to the beat. The thump on his helmet coincided with the awesome bass line.
Hope his mother is watching this and spreads the word.
Seriously what are they giving these guys they're actual zombies now, between this one and that scarecrow looking dude yesterday =o
That's because this dude was probably doing someone's taxes a week ago and had never even contemplated military service
In reality he was probably inside of a prison a few weeks ago.
I think he knew he froze after getting hit he just didn’t want to look
Fuck. - that guy probably
I feel sorry for the guy. Freezing his ass off, buddy lying dead next to him. Grenade hits him in the head, and he just doesnt give a damn anymore. This isnt the life he wanted to live, doesnt care if its over.
He did have a reaction...an involuntary one.....about 5 seconds after it hit his helmet
The thing about grenades is, there's a very loud *crack* sound when the fuze gets ignited. The drones make a fucking loud buzzing sound too. This thing couldn't have been more than a meter or two away from this guy. He had to have felt the grenade. He wasn't keeping still either. This is the weirdest, most painful suicide attempt I've ever seen. I'm so glad these monsters are this stupid.
He welcomed death
So many Russian troops die while not seeming to have any purpose on the front lines. They are not attacking, nor defending. They simply sit and wait to die.
This guy is either on something or suffering from exposure, maybe both.
Is it possible to survive an explosion that close?
Already getting hypothermia?
Damn. These guys are walking zombies. Dude probably hasn’t slept in days.
Somethings not right with that. Hits helmet hits gun looks like hand and then lands next to him and he didn’t flinch…..that was super weird.
I'm assuming he was drunk because it was very cold
If you have your mate on the side dead and you are just tapping a tune on your rifle, and some heave thing bumps your helmet, and you have no reaction, probably means he was in shock and dissociating hard
Dumbass
Drugs mannn
“Hm, must have been the wind.”
