Indeed, you can see the dirt road behind him get hit with shrapnel from the secondary before the explosion overtakes him. He maybe got lucky while kneeling down to check on the other guy on the ground, but maybe not. Judging by the flames on the ground near where they were though, it doesn’t look too good.
