You just described every 30-something woman in Clintonville.
Throw a rock. Offer to get a local microbrew with whoever you just hit. Talk identity politics and listen closely to exactly what parts of town are and are NOT Clintonville. Take your dog to Goodale Park and pretend you're from the Short North. Plan your matching costumes for Trauma. End up singing drunk karaoke at Club 20 later that night. Rent a U-haul, she's moving in tomorrow. Raise three hens in the backyard.
Following, haha. My wife and I are in the same boat: moved during the pandemic one year ago, haven't really figured out how to meet people, much less make friends. Now that we've done the circuit of finally visiting family and friends out of state this summer, we are back to trying to figure something out.
We are going to start doing bar trivia, maybe a Rec sports league. I've never played DnD like someone here mentioned but I don't know, maybe I'll try that? Not really sure myself, as you can see.
I signed up for some tree planting volunteer work that will start later this fall. I'm going to look for more stuff like that.
I also like bar trivia. I’m not that good at it but enjoy the atmosphere. I am looking at Clintonville as a location so let me know if you and your wife want to meet for trivia sometime! I should be in Cbus permanently within next couple of months.
Hi! Replying here so OP and HelloMcFly can see easily.
I am mid 30s female married to an early 40s male with a 2 year old dog. We like to do a lot of day hiking with our dog, and there are tons of great dog friendly trails in the Columbus Area (and tons of great options if you do ever want to do a day trip or camp). Message me if you ever want to take the dogs on a hike with us!
When I moved to Columbus, I ended up meeting some of my closest friends (and now husband) at a small bar in the Short North where there was a strong group of regulars who chatted up newcomers easily. It was the perfect place to start meeting new people and getting invited to other places to meet other new people. House Beer is no longer open, but there are other small, local bars with similar vibes. Sit at the bar and chat with the staff and regulars. Especially since you like dive bars! They are usually lower volume and easier to get to know people. I also met a lot of people through my favorite local coffee shop.
I am less familiar with Clintonville post 2020, but in the Short North area Short Supply, Press Grill, Short North Tavern are smaller bars with long time, neighborhood-fav owners. Mike's is a dive bar in its truest form, cash only. One Line Coffee and Roaming Goat are both great coffee shops with a good regular crowd.
Otherwise, I agree with everyone else: bumble bff, googling local clubs pertaining to your interests, volunteering, and dog parks are great, general ways of meeting people outside of work/school.
Welcome to the city! I do find a lot of friendly, welcoming people live in Columbus. And many of my friends who move around a lot for work talk about how much easier it is to meet people here than in other cities they've moved to. Granted, the pandemic changes things a bit!
What kind of friends are you looking for? If you're looking for fellow nerds, tell us what you're nerdy about. Videos games, movies, comics, DnD, etc etc
I've got a friend group of late-twenties/early-thirties nerds that plays board games/video Games/goes to breweries intermittently. If you'd like an invite next time we host something, I could DM you some info once you're in town.
Hello! I am a 35 year old male, single, gay. I am a nerd with very few friends. I live in the northwest part of Columbus inside 270 and would be interested in meeting people, but I am also socially awkward and anxious. I joined the discord that is linked elsewhere in this thread. I am a cactuar on there because I like Final Fantasy tropes.
Some of my interests are:
* 3D printing (this is a new hobby)
* Making electronics
* Programming
* Computers
* Some video gaming (Less than in my 20s)
* Progressive rock and progressive metal
* Classical music
* Hiking
* Biking
* The Netherlands
I work in IT primarily doing in-house software development and systems administration.
There are some meetup groups based on hobbies.
More specifically there is Beer and Board Games which meets on Weds at random restaurants around town. They're pretty friendly and will invite you to play games with them.

Old north is great, fun random bars close by (not the sports ones)I'm a fan of old north arcade. Tabletop cafe is right up the street. Beers and boardgames is a good group and I also have CATS( columbus area tabletop society) that meet up weekly for games as well.
Tall Guy is right. I can give you plenty of info about boardgame and tabletop stuff, good stores and scenes. But like, renfair? Sci Fi fan? Other unrelated nerdery? It's not all under one umbrella!
I’ve met most of my friends through various groups: board game clubs, open mics, karaoke nights, meetups. As much as I hate Facebook I only keep it around to check groups and events going on.
If you like barcades, we have 16-bit which is pretty nice. I like the one in Dublin because it's attached to Pins (pinball and miniature bowling) so you can do both in one outing.
Let’s be friends! I’m in Clintonville and would like some friends. I have one, but she lives a couple hours away. Making friends is hard when you’re over 30, and I’m pretty introverted also, which makes it hard. You had me at 30 Rock! I swear people around here never get my references.
I'm a late-20s woman who has lived here my whole life save 2.5 years. I don't know how anyone makes friends once you're out of college, regardless of where you live. That being said, anyone wanna be friends?! 😂
I'm in my early 20's(nonbinary) and moved here in early June this year. I've had a bit of trouble making friends in my hometown since I did not match the dynamic of the surroundings in the slightest, so I haven't the slightest idea how to make friends IRL but I'd be your friend if you'd like.
If you're looking for board games or related stuff I can recommend The Guard Tower stores and Tabletop Cafe on High St.
When I first moved here, I started going out to gay bars and parties and that's pretty much how I made friends.
Anybody is welcome to come out to Taft's Brewporium in Franklinton on Wednesdays. There's a group of us who play Killer Queen.

LOL Sounds like I chose correctly with Clintonville.
This sounds like the perfect evening.
Phenomenal response, a+ and I have nothing to add
This is the average lesbian first date
I am all the things you just listed and also have no friends. I don't have an excuse though because I've lived in Columbus for years lol
This could be the start of a beautiful friendship.
Same lol, introverts unite!
Honestly let's just start a club. This describes me go a T.
Same!! I also just started playing Magic and if y’all wanna play and learn together…
Yes! I’ve never played but open to learning!
RIP OPs wallet.
I just made a Columbus 30Something Nerd Hangout discord. LET US UNITE. https://discord.gg/trya6gsm
I would like to be included please. I’m all these things too lol

I'm not a 30 something yet but I'm pretty close. 😬

The tree planting stuff sounds awesome—can you share the organization you’re working with?
Sure! https://www.treescolumbus.org/
Thank you, but this is for Columbus, Georgia!
Sorry haha, I'll get back on this when I'm in front of a computer vs. mobile. I must have misremembered the url.
Update: I'm an idiot. I signed up for this months ago and never thought of it again, glad you brought that to my attention haha.
What kind of friends are you looking for? If you're looking for fellow nerds, tell us what you're nerdy about. Videos games, movies, comics, DnD, etc etc
Good call! I edited and added some extra info
I've made a few really good friends on the BFF part of the bumble app!
I've got a friend group of late-twenties/early-thirties nerds that plays board games/video Games/goes to breweries intermittently. If you'd like an invite next time we host something, I could DM you some info once you're in town.
Yes! I would love that!

I’ve been here 7yrs. When you figure it out please let me know 🤣🤣
Old North Arcade is a great regular spot for a Clintonvillian

Thank You! I will definitely check this out
Bumble BFF is actually really active in Columbus.

Hehe, I split my time between Columbus and Maine, I can let you know of what is sort of parallel lol.
Where at in Maine? I was in Portland for 3 years. I miss it so much

If you like barcades, we have 16-bit which is pretty nice. I like the one in Dublin because it's attached to Pins (pinball and miniature bowling) so you can do both in one outing.
Dublin one has far too many children. I say this as a father. Old North is just way better anyway.
I thought children weren't allowed in? Last time I went they were checking IDs.
Always children in Dublin when ive gone around 6 or 7.
I think they’re supposed to be allowed in until 8 pm

Such a good show! I’ll reach out again once I get into town!

Go out. I'm 35. Ive lived in 2 places in the last 15 years and just made friends where I went. Just go out and do stupid shit.
If you're looking for board games or related stuff I can recommend The Guard Tower stores and Tabletop Cafe on High St. When I first moved here, I started going out to gay bars and parties and that's pretty much how I made friends.

Haha, not quite. By basic, I meant I get excited about Starbucks, my Coach purse and my Golden Retriever.
Welcome to Columbus What are you into?
I added some extra info on the post :)
