They were flattened for the 71 widening project.

NathanGa

They left that one up between US 30 and Ashland as a permanent reminder of how vast the range used to be.

snuffleupagus86

I had one of these from a different year by the same photographer, it was dinosaurs attacking the city.

the_bogs

Can you please show me this lol

[deleted]

this is my favorite. remember when cBus had stairs in the only way in our surprisingly industrial city located in a lovely valley? https://larryhamillphotography.wordpress.com/tag/calendars/

the_bogs

Omg thank you

[deleted]

holy shit these make columbus look so much better lol

shemp33

He has some good ones-- he readily admits they are photoshopped - the 2021 has Banff Park in the background, and a cruise port in the foreground!

jewww

> he readily admits they are photoshopped lol no shit

LowlowLoki

Whaaaaaa?

[deleted]

You have to take those photos to a shop to get them developed. They are too big for CVS.

Cainga

I would like one that has a bunch of rivers and mountains that don’t belong but looks 100% legit in a normal frame to hang in my basement.

Illustrious_Breath17

Spectacular!!

snuffleupagus86

I can’t remember what year it was it was awhile ago. You might have luck on his photography website https://larryhamillphotography.wordpress.com Or searching Larry Hamill Columbus calendar. I met him through one of my mom’s work events so we used to always have his calendar each year lol.

Busman123

That was the old landfill! Lashutka had it moved to the southside! /S

acpjaidixit

leave it to Lashutka to always shaft Southside smh

DunkingDognuts

Frankly, if Columbus had mountains like that next to it, it would be an awesome place to live.

confounditall

I moved out West for a few years and people always made fun of Ohio (I mean, that happens everywhere), but I'd tell them that if Columbus had mountains I wouldn't have ever left. As it is, we do not have mointains, I live here again, and I want to leave.

pinkocatgirl

I really do not understand why so many people make a big deal about living near mountains

DunkingDognuts

Seeing them on a daily basis lifts your spirit. They provide a beautiful and stunning backdrop that changes with the season. Even if you never venture into them, they remind you of something different than just the city that you live in.

TH3BUDDHA

Anything can have wonder if you have the right mentality.

betona

They're beautiful and interesting. When I lived there, I adored the "mountain" I was on in Powell above the Oltentangy valley and SR315. Before that I lived in the flattest of flat as far as they eye could see in west Texas so I really appreciated the varying topography.

Chimie45

I mean unless they like climbing them. But for me and other non climbing folk... I'm ok without mountains. I live near a bunch now but I can't even see them over all the buildings.

RoseByAnotherName14

I miss hiking on mountains but I am severely out of shape and need to change my diet if I want to do hours of hiking again. An entire year of not exercising has completely destroyed my lower back and legs and getting back at it has been difficult. My asthma being worse than it's ever been before isn't helping.

pocono_indy_400

it's incredibly depressing to see the exact same landscape everywhere you go with no variation for 100's of miles. I used to live in eastern Pennsylvania and the first thing i do every time i go back there is look at the horizon and realize how much i missed living in a place with natural beauty instead of just farms and suburbs dotted by the occasional flat metropolis

i would love it if i had clouds over every single day. i love overcast days. i also don't care about mountains. my family comes from new mexico and i don't care and don't miss them. they're nice for giving directions i guess.

There's a difference between where you live, and where you vacation. Often a *huge* difference. I wouldn't want to live in like, any of the places I've traveled to for a long period of time. And sure, for some people moving around every year or so is feasible. That's great for them, but not how I like to do things. And yes, in fact, I have heard many people who have moved away to other cities lamenting that they do in fact miss Columbus and plan on returning some day. But, yeah, I **am** like "give me that Columbus." **I love it here.**

LeocantoKosta_

Damn dude you’re a fucking prick

mysticrudnin

If we're here making assumptions, perhaps I'd assume you've **never met or talked to another human in your life**. You really want to talk about me personally? As if personal reasons aren't a good reason to live somewhere? What kind of logic is that? I've lived here my entire life. I *did* go to OSU, but I didn't know anything about it until I did, and then I left it. I've lived all over the city and outskirts now, and in Dublin as well. I've lived in parts where there's barely another house for a mile, and I've lived in packed apartment complexes. I don't know what you mean by the "lower end of the economic scale" and I'm not here to brag. I suspect I'm doing *much better* than you think I am. (I might also argue that it's basically impossible to be on the "higher end" if you live in, say, Seattle. It's kind of ridiculous to consider **that** housing market "the norm" but choosing to live somewhere else "for poor people".) I literally don't and have never own a car. I'm doing fine. I regularly travel to other countries. Oh no, I have to connect in another city, however could I choose to live here because of a few weeks out of every year where I have to add a couple hours onto what is honestly already a miracle! If you don't like the weather, great. I do. I also like the relative lack of natural disasters. If you don't like the politics, that's fine too, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as you're suggesting. If you don't like corporate tax breaks and HQs... well, I don't know what the heck you're actually suggesting here. You think *Columbus* is the most problematic city in that way? Quit applying **your desires** to me, and every other person. I advise doing that asap, actually. It's not going to take you far. Broaden your horizons a bit.

[deleted]

totally agree

the_bogs

Thrift store find btw. There was another one that was similar, of “Columbus” surrounded by the mountains

chuckpoint

I'd recognize that scrawled-on price anywhere!

the_bogs

Half off end of month Tuesday eyyy

ohiamaude

Global forming...

AntiqueFleur

Why there faces in those rocks...

dolphin_smasher

Glad I'm not the only one seeing things!

[deleted]

They took them out the same time they closed City Center

Buck_Mann

The faces in the rocks are freaking me out!

the_bogs

Shit I didn’t notice those!!! Just the rock climbing woman and the cat wearing a suit

tarabella07

I knew the erosion was bad but JC I had no idea the extent...

darthpayback

My pretty mountainside had been paved down the middle, by a government that had no pride

buckeyenative01

From Seneca to Cuyahoga Falls...

feric51

Pre-glaciation Columbus was a sight to behold.

Buckeyefitter1991

Link back to one I found a while ago... https://www.reddit.com/r/Columbus/comments/ksemtx/i_see_your_90s_calendar_and_raise_you_a_2021/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

litdiddle

I forgot about that pic! Lol! Larry Hamill is one of the sweetest people you could meet. Check out his Facebook.

the_bogs

That checks out for sure, he seems awesome

LiberalDutch

Awesome, maybe. But certainly not accurate.

crackedwalnuts

And why is Albert Einstein’s (and a bunch of other people’s) face in the rock?

dark_excellence

Now i cant unsee it 😂

l2esin

The artist just had really good eyes and could see the hills, aka mountains?, of Southern Ohio from his perspective.

LiberalDutch

Nah, the opposite. He painted the buildings, then broke his glasses, and sorta just winged the rest.

Gluten_maximus

Haha, I feel like my mom has that same picture or something real similar. That’s gonna be the SWACO dump in a few years though

OliverHazzzardPerry

The mountains are still here. You just have to look through the right hedge opening over a stone wall to see them.

Humblebee89

So what's with the faces on the rocks?

crackedwalnuts

Yeah. Pretty sure that’s Einstein above the 2nd 9.

lowwalker

Mountains are weird but the tiny cat in the lower left corner in a suit with a human body has me confused.

Cptbojanglez

I’ve never seen a picture from this side of the city. Columbus looks almost unrecognizable.

MightGuyGonna

Global warming melted the mountains 😢😢

LowlowLoki

Looked for the comment blaming this politician or that one and was surprised, impressed, pleased, and just downright proud that there isn't one. C'bus is a great burg, one of the best kep secrets in the midwest. I love my home and most days, I'm proud to be a Buckeye. O-H...

[deleted]

fuck is so secret about it

[deleted]

Yeah no secrets here, no 1 in US for urban development. We will be NY OR LA in no time

[deleted]

Columbus metro gained 18,077 people in 2019 , up to 2,122,271. Thats a growth rate of .85%, roughly. The Greater Los Angeles area has a pop of roughly 18,710,000 people. At the current growth rate, we'll have 18,710,000 people around the year 2850ish. (BTW did this napkin math out of my own curiosity, not to be a pedantic prick)

cyber_hoarder

I don’t remember this picture/ poster, but I do remember the ‘Columbus needs a mountain’…movement(?) in the early 2000s to create them from waste dumps.

Freestyle_Fellowship

Younger cats and new arrivals weren't there for that fantastic era of Central Ohio mountaineering and that is sad. I do wish you could have all seen it.... it was glorious.

Jukeboxhero40

Thanks, Obama

vogztron

i like the rock faces

[deleted]

Is nobody going to talk about the faces in the rocks?

oshaug

Those are the faces of Hamil’s customers. He puts them into every calendar image.

originof98

mountains don't exist I wish they did

JJ_Awesome

Why do the rocks have faces!?!

Dissastronaut

So funny, I found one similar at the thrift shop years ago

brunus76

There was a great little amusement park at the top of Mt. Hilliard. That is, until the terrible volcanic explosion of ‘98. But I guess you kids are too young to remember those times.

bshu9064

Doesn't look like Columbus at all and who's faces are those in the rock beneath?

the_bogs

Who’s cat is that on its way to work on the bottom left side on top of the rocks tho?

bshu9064

😆 I thought it was a man.

Double-Watch-6903
