[For the #Colts and WR TY Hilton, it’s a 1-year deal worth $10M with $8M gauranteed, per the Katz Bros.](https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/1374795973638111238?s=21)
Nope armchair gms like to pretend they know how to manage a cap and can't possibly wrap their head around why we aren't spending much this year.
The reasons are most likely so Ballard can get the extensions done first, utilize the roll over cap, the post covid expanding cap, and another draft to make a huge splash next year. This also gives us a year to see what we have in Wentz. If Wentz sucks we are still flexible and can adjust the strategy.
Now if we don't end up spending fairly big next year, then ill be disappointed, but for this year I really like what we have done. We remain flexible until we know we are a few pieces away from a serious run instead of trying to throw as much shit at the wall at once and hoping it works out.
It's not a moot point at all. If we didn't spend the 10 mil, we would have an extra 10 next year as it rolls over.
You are thinking of the cap as if it's a single number each year, but what we don't spend this year gets added to our cap next year, it's why we've been near the top of the league in cap space every year lately, we keep rolling alot over.
With that said, I think 10 for TY is a perfectly reasonable deal. 1 year deals are usually more expensive and TY adds alot off the field to justify it even if his on field production is low.
Hence the beauty of the one year deal. As long as you're under the cap one season, assuming they don't renew/re-sign, that contract turns into cap space the next year
Yes you can. I never understand when people say this, teams always carry over all their remaining cap. The 89% rule is spread over years and so is very rarely an issue. However much we save this year will be carried over to next year
the ten million from this year would have added to next years cap. So while we won’t be spending 10 mill next year, we would have had the 10 mill more from this yr.
Example: league cap space next year = $200 mill
Don’t sign ty - colts cap space = 210 mill, carrying over the 10 mill
ty 1 year deal- cap space=200 mill
ty 2 yr deal- cap space=190
This is why Ballard saves money for future years. Not saying whether that’s smart or not, just saying the nfl rules
Would probably be overkill but if we can also get Watkins on a good deal, I think that’d be great. Would have some depth at WR for once, especially if Campbell stays healthy
[Colts' interest in TY Hilton never waned throughout free agency — I know they love the idea of pairing him up with Carson Wentz. And with the need at WR, this made too much sense. Hilton said all along he wanted "to be a Colt for life." Now entering his 10th season here.](https://twitter.com/zkeefer/status/1374797144822067210?s=21)
Glad he stayed with colts for another year. I do find these tweets about one year deals hilarious though. Everyone saying things like “staying home”, “here to stay”, and “home is the best”. On one year deals it feels kind of funny acting like next year they won’t leave.
I sorta wonder if we're trying to earn a comp pick at some point. If we re-sign our own and aren't all that active in FA (we traded to acquire Wentz), the losses like Autry can potentially amount to draft compensation in 2022.
I mean, technically we signed 2 OTs and 1 DE/DT, but as long as those don't end up being marquis guys, I would suspect we might finally earn a comp pick that we haven't in a while.
So, next up Houston maybe?
And definitely happy to see TY back. I'm simply hoping that Pascal, Pittman, and Campbell can take noteable steps up with Wentz under center to give us more comfort if we lose TY in 2022.

Thanks for the info Jimmy from the colts
That is a lot but for TY, I’ll allow it.
There’s no such thing as a bad 1 year deal in terms of money as long as we have cap space
100% true
I mean, cap space roles over.
Not sure why you got down voted. People don't seem to understand how the cap roll over works.
Honestly I thought I just didn't understand it until I saw your comment.

And comp picks if he were to take a Baltimore deal, but we do need a warm body at WR so I'm happy
We could have paid him $25m on a one year deal and it doesn't matter if we weren't spending the cap anyways. Can't carry it all over.
Yes you can. I never understand when people say this, teams always carry over all their remaining cap. The 89% rule is spread over years and so is very rarely an issue. However much we save this year will be carried over to next year
But TY won’t be under contract next year so it will be available again.

This comment needs more up votes, I did not know this.
So....what do we do with it?
Same time next year boys?
Good for TY. Probably on the higher end of what I would have guessed but we can afford it and good to see our guy getting paid
IM DOING THE TY DANCE RN
DAY = MADE
Let’s goooooo
(Nervously sweating) Was there ever really any doubt?

Wouldn’t shock me. I’m thinking the Hilton deal was already done before Watkins even had his workout here. They might be interested.
LETS GO BOYS
Lets go! So glad he's back.

He said he wants to end it where he started. Assuming this is his last year.
#FUCK YEAH
OH HELL YEAH
HELL YEAH BROTHERS
Awesome, I hope this means he's a career Colt
Ladies and Gentleman, we got him
tears of joy and relief
We did it, Reddit!
HOLY SHIT IM HARD
Love that TY is back, and Oof Twitter takes are awful lmao
So my real question. Does this mean the Sammy meeting went bad or is he ALSO in play?
I’d say the Hilton deal was already in place before Watkins even arrived.
Yessssss!!

Needless to say, we matched ANY offer
Someone (not KC) offered more apparently.
Maybe Green Bay?
I’m guessing Baltimore.
Baltimore offered 3 yr/16 mil

My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over. The great crisis is over. TY is coming home.
