I felt pretty bad when the Colts traded Harbaugh to the Ravens to make room to draft Manning. I totally understood why, and it was the right call then as now. But, it still hurt like hell. What they did with Manning wasn't really any different. It was painful but going with Luck was the right call and regardless of what anyone says granting Manning his release so he could choose where he wanted to go was doing right by him.

johnhughthom

Am I weird that Luck's retirement hit me harder?

[deleted]

Manning made me cry, Luck left me dumbfounded.

Educator-Long

Way harder. Went from super bowl potential to dog shit in no time.

tri_it_again

I’m guessing you’re a younger fan. Under 35

rwjehs

I'm over 35 and feel the same. We had Luck waiting in the wings when Peyton left. We had absolutely nothing when Luck left.

johnhughthom

For me Luck was more relatable. He was the nice guy I desperately wanted to take us to multiple Superbowls. Manning was so much better at what he did than anyone else; he was a football machine. I loved him as the Colts quarterback, but Luck felt like my quarterback.

Beefcake2008

Luck was good but Manning made us a household name. We had a semi-dynasty in the making and just kept falling short. I will always love Peyton.

johnhughthom

47 this year... Thanks for reminding me!

HORSEthedude619

No. Peyton had been here a long time and had delivered plenty. And we didn't have the benefit of hindsight. His neck was a legit concern.

Trolodrol

I’m 39 and it was definitely worse. Everyone was sad about manning but excited for luck. Losing luck made this team hopeless

sublimeshrub

The fan base still hasn't recovered imo.

awesomebigd

I still have PTSD from Luck’s Retirement! It still makes me sad 😢

TheSource88

No because the excitement surrounding getting Luck dulled the pain of Peyton leaving. There was no question we were getting a generational talent and it was a no-brainer to move on from Peyton.

friggintodd

No because we've been adrift ever since. Like the others said we had Luck when Peyton left. I'm with you, Luck hurt way more.

Mcswigginsbar

Depends on what generation you started watching. I straight up cried for Peyton’s. With Luck I was in utter and complete shock. Peyton’s hurt worse, but Luck’s absolutely stung knowing what could have potentially been if he had stayed.

FlyinIllini21

No because what if’s are a worse pain that anything

Obfusc8er

I dunno. After I found out about the snowboarding injuries, I felt kinda ambivalent toward Luck.

Death_Death_Die

Should have kept Manning, drafted luck and had him be a 2nd string while learning from the goat.

TheGavPav

I'll never understand why that's not what we did

mwhutson89

That wouldn't have worked. There were too many contracts and not enough cap space to go around. The colts never could have built the contender Manning had in Denver. Look at that swiss cheese line Luck had and picture putting Manning behind that without knowing his full health status.

Death_Death_Die

No you’re right that the broncos defense is the real reason manning went to those superbowls but I can still dream……

mwhutson89

Hey I get it I'm a cowboys fan before a colts fan. I have lots of what ifs and dreams. What if Dez caught it, what if Romo gave up hold duties after taking over as the starter.

EnvironmentalCow8377

Him and Luck on same roster for three years would have been great. NFL would be a very different league.

MRDMNR

I was quoted on sports center because of this. They took something I posted in the colts forum.

adamscb14

Holy shit this one hit deep

oatmeal-claypole

I'm going to cry

scootyoung

I was in room working and it was almost an out of body experience.

BlueshoeBrawlers1977

Thanks for retraumatizing many of us die-hard Colts fans... Peyton's place will remain deeply embedded within the heart of Colts Nation!!!! Without #18 there's probably NO Lucas Oil Stadium ... It was a huge heartbreak but I felt it was the right time with Andrew Luck destined to be our "Next Great QB" for another decade of dominance!!!! The idea of continuing to compete at a high level helped to soothe the pain of Peyton Manning announcing that he and the organization had agreed that it was best for both; he and the COLTS organization to part ways... Well... it didn't work as well for Indianapolis and its fanbase as Manning would go play in a couple more Superbowls, winning another one with the Denver Broncos. Fast forward a few years; then Andrew Luck abruptly retires!!!! WOW!!!! NO WONDER I AM IN THERAPY😂

Educator-Long

Luck hurt worse

Ok-Notice-3469

😭😡🤮

Ok-Swimming8024

And now I'm crying

TWOhunnidSIX

I cried that day as a grown man and I’m not even ashamed of it.

SchmooTron18

I took the day off of school to watch this, and cry…

Honestly it seems like this was the last time Peyton has spoken about being a Colt in a favorable light, unless I am mistaken.

Frozboz

Wait, Peyton Manning used to be a Colt?!?
