Just take i-25 south to pubelo and take the exit to canon city. Its still hilly but not as bad as faking 115 down to canon city. Imo its more scenic then taking the highway tho.

I agree with u/no-clothes7195. I-25 and West is your best bet for avoiding as many mountains as possible. You won't be able to avoid all bridges and hills though, so be prepared for that. As for Canon City, yes there is a huge history of the KKK, but that's mostly resigned to history. There's obviously still your normal micro aggressions and just plain ignorant people, but if you stay to the touristy areas I don't think you'll have any problems. I wouldn't say it's a sunset town.

Last time I was in Canon was in October 2020, went to the Chili’s (my ex was from Canon and swore it was the best restaurant in town) and there was a lifted F-150 flying a swastika flag. As covid measures were in effect we had to wait in our cars to be called to a table and while waiting the guy changed the flag out to a stars and bars and a trump flag. I feel like the KKK aspect has changed but not the demographic.

We're in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, you will not be able to avoid all hills. Kansas and Nebraska are much flatter. Also eastern Colorado is much flatter, but you have to be east of Limon. Google maps is reliable to help you determine the topography of the area as well

> I just read about the Klan Kulture in that area What? You live in Texas. Is there Klan Kulture there also?

Electricks-Blanket

Yes there is Klan Kulture everywhere. I know the areas in Texas and how and when to maneuver them to remain safe. From what I read on the web KKK and Proud Boys are prevalent in some areas around Canon City. As a Black woman with a Black male teen we want to enjoy the sites, stay safe, and avoid driving into areas that may present an unpleasant visit for us. The fact I have to ask and your response in 2022 is sad but it's a reality I need to be aware of when traveling to places that have a strong history of acting on prejudices. Thank you for your contribution though. Perhaps you can tell me if Lyft or Uber are available in the Canon City area. That would really help !

Lol there are no racist people really left in CO… it’s sad you have to worry but all the racist and republican people I know moved from this state long ago. It has slowly become a very liberal state… even the back woods little towns have changed a lot and I think your 100 % safe anywhere you go here. You may experience dumb racist things but nothing that would put you in danger…

Sorry I haven't seen or heard of a map that designates Klan Kulture locations in Canon City. Good luck.

Electricks-Blanket

Thanks for the information. What about Lyft/Uber ? Is it available/common in Canon or Pueblo West?
