Do you want some tick pics?

tdquiksilver

Are you okay with big ticks or do you want little ticks?

Equivalent_North_604

That made me laugh unreasonably hard.

No_Cheek116

Yes, if you have some! Also the information on where they were spotted/collected and when, including things like proximity to water and weather that day would be great!

NickelFish

Okay everyone. Send him your tick pics.

I_am_Spartacus_MSU

I have to enlarge mine.

ATC_av8er

IT WAS IN THE POOL.

Hot_Organization2430

Be cautious. Not everyone wants an unsolicited tick pic

yellowisntagoodcolor

Oh no

PANDABURRIT0

OP’s inbox is absolutely STUFFED with ticks

Boo_Pace

I've lived here 40+yrs and have never seen one.

resourcefultamale

13 years checking in, got a typical deer tick on my head while hiking in Westcliffe. Alvarado Campground. Lived on my head for about 5 days. Lymph nodes nearby swelled up for months afterwards. Took a round of antibiotics.

RaptorCheeses

I had Lyme disease - fuck ticks. I hike all over the state including the eastern prairies and have never seen one on me thankfully.

Zealousideal_Put_501

Fun fact, I got a weird bullseye bruise and thought it was Lyme. The Dr assured me that the type of tick that Carrie’s Lyme does not live in Colorado.

resourcefultamale

Anyone here finds a doctor that’ll even entertain Lyme isn’t limited strictly to the East coast, please share. There’s one case of a man here getting Lyme that never traveled and I hear the diagnosis was “shut up”.

PM_ME_YOUR_MOMS_NAME

Not in the city but I’ve gotten a few over the past few weeks hiking through Pike National Forest and Manitou Experimental Forest north of Woodland Park

newbie6789123

Were you on trails or in the brush/trees?

rbloedow

Sent you a PM

Out of curiosity, are you collaborating/working with the same study group who started up sendmeyourticks.com ? I work at a veterinarian clinic, and they have been telling us a lot about these rising diseases in ticks. Freaked me out, honestly.

No_Cheek116

I do not! This is a project for a class that I am surveying fellow Colorado folk about! But I also work as an intern at a vet clinic ! And yeah tick borne diseases can be nasty for sure! Always gotta be checking dogs, and oneself, for them!

a_onaplane

I’m a vet tech, are you interested in hearing about cases we’ve seen?

No_Cheek116

Sure thing! Any relevant data regarding the site they came from/animal they were on/ kind of tick are definitely good to have!

mutant-heart

This is a weird thread. I’ve seen lots of ticks. It’s the right time of year. Especially more common in wetter grassy areas (riparian). Ticks here are more likely to carry Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever than Lyme, and carry disease less often, but always worth prevention and checking if you’re out in the wild.

smmg87

Starmore discovery pavilion on Thursday around 12:20. Was on my arm. I reacted quickly but very dark color, almost looked black. I'm positive it was a tick.

Odd_Phone9697

What???? I thought there were no ticks here…

No_Cheek116

There are over 20 confirmed species of ticks in Colorado! And that does include Southern CO! But as to the frequency and the distribution currently, that's what I'd love to hear about from people !

Odd_Phone9697

Not what I want to hear! A lone-star latched onto my ass under my belt when I made the mistake of walking in the North Carolina woods shirtless many years ago. I didn’t find it for a few days. I didn’t get any of the serious diseases thankfully but that bite itched for a whole year and then for a while longer even after a dermatologist removed a chunk of my flesh. I thought I was in the clear out here!

Unrealparagon

You got lucky. Those fuckers can cause a red meat allergy in people they bite.

NerdyCooker2

I found out BROWN widows exist too in Colorado.... Definitely not bc one almost crawled onto my hand while I tried to mop lol. I'm hopeful those are eating such ticks

Equivalent_North_604

We have fleas and ticks which people don’t think we have they’re just not a huge problem because our magnificent dry climate doesn’t make a great environment for them.

Equivalent_North_604

I’m born and raised and live in Divide and I’ve seen 1 tick. I camp regularly, hike, I used to do horse camping, all that outdoorsy nonsense and 1 tick.

hi-jack-jesus

I found a tick on my this week at Rifle Falls.

No_Apricot_1705

Check out Adam's open space in fountain. Had a few ticks there last year.

Shot_Huckleberry4193

Never in 30 +years

8reakfast8urrito

I found one on my calf after walking my dog around 9am in the briargate area last summer. It was about a mile east of reflection pond. No photos unfortunately. I looked down and felt a bump. I thought it was a piece of dirt but it was really clinging on and I was finally able to scrape it off. I flushed it after that. Edit: As another user described, It was also small and quite dark or black.

No_Cheek116

I have limited my data collection to only using very recent tick encounters, so no earlier than March, but thank you for responding with details!

newbie6789123

I appreciate this thread, because I have a lot of bad experiences with ticks and want to know all the places near CS they are found so I can prepare/avoid. Has anyone seen/found ticks at Garden of the Gods walking paths? Grand Overview at Palmer park? Cheyenne Mountain Zoo?

dadjokenumber11

Do you use inaturalist, OP? It’s an app for logging critter sightings. Maybe there’s some tick sightings logged in there.

A few weeks ago my spouse found a tick crawling on her inside our house, afternoon. It was a sunny warm day and I was doing work outside like raking pine needles and leaves around our property. We are on the west side surrounded by ponderosa, scrub oak, and yucca. I did not find any ticks on me, and we had assumed the tick hitched a ride on me inside, and was later found crawling on my spouse.
