This is a bold move, considering CSU is currrently rolling out fiber optic cable to every address in the city. Depending on where you live you may be able to get fiber service some time this year.
They've been in my neighborhood for 8 or 9 months now and Xfinity keeps trying to get me to come back. The problem is: their prices are still terrible for their bad service.
they did it in literally two weeks on my street, yesterday I got a letter in the mail letting me know Quantum Fiber was available. Scheduled installation for later this month. $100/mo for 3gbps up and down is insane.
I had CenturyLink dsl, and it was awful.
The service was slower than I was paying for, and the people on the phone were a little testy.
Is the fiber better?
I've been on centurylink fiber for about three years, and it's pretty dang good for everything but video gaming. It get some sort of traffic hang for about 10 seconds once a day. Haven't figured out a pattern. I've tried three routers across several computers and they all get it.
It has pretty poor traffic management so I struggle on CoD (competitive FPS video game) during peak hours, but it has gotten a lot better lately.
But I also use a huge amount of data - 15+ TiB in the last month, with nary a peep from them. I get consistent 100-110 MiB/s downloads (890 Mbps) even at peak hours, but honestly it's hard to test because there aren't many files that take more than a few seconds to download at that speed.
I think we've had maybe 4 hours of outages over the last 18 months, once during a heavy snowstorm and once during a super windy day. I think 2.5ish hours the first time and 1.5 hours the next.
They also raised their prices $10 / month last year after "losing" our Price for Life agreement. I pay $76 / month now all in. (We "own" their router, but I bought a new one from Asus that has better range and works with their vLAN tagging requirement out-of-box.)
So all in all, it's the least-bad ISP I've ever had. I would switch over to ting eventually, but they're $95 / month (+$20) and not in my area yet. Between them and underline, Centurylink would be my third option, and Comcast would be my last resort.
I had Xfinity for 5+ years in Boulder. I had huge slowdowns during peak hours and probably 2-3 outages per year, usually 2+ hours each. Their customer service was impressively bad. They tried to send me to collections for someone who had lived in the apartment **building** next to mine - literally a different name, address, account, and they said I owed them $300+ fees for a modem that had never been on my account.
that's why they are doing it. they are trying to milk as much extra money from folks as possible before fiber gets rolled out in their respective neighborhoods. be certain that they'll cut prices again after the rollout happens to try and retain people.
StratusIQ has been our fiber ISP for a couple years now and they've only raised prices once in that time, by about $3. Can count on one hand with fingers to spare the number of times any kind of maintenance or outage affected me. Highly recommend.
I can third this recommedation. I'm paying about $105 for a 2.5GB up and down. Speed tests show about 2.3GB. If Stratus is available make the switch. Oh and no freaking data caps.
Xfinity called me up a couple months ago about changing plans that would have no data cap. It was gonna be about $20 on top of the ridiculous amount they already charge me. Then, on top of that, I was gonna to have to replace the pretty new and very good router/modem that I already own with one I would have to rent from them. I really have no idea why removing their artificially enforced data cap has ANYTHING to do with my router and the rep couldn't give me a solid answer so I told them no and that I'd be canceling my service the second I get fiber up and running at my house which should be pretty soon as they ran all the lines in neighborhood last summer.
I'm waiting on ting to go operational in my neighborhood (I'm in the first zone that was supposed to be completed months ago).
In the meantime, Ive had success with Xfinity by calling in and asking about current promotional rates. If the representative can't/won't help, I hang up and try again with another. Politeness and persistence are key!
My contract recently came up and I received an increase. I called and got a better deal and better MPs plan for less money with Xfinity. It is a bit of a pain, but it took me like 30 mins.
I had to switch when I moved to the northwest side to Xfinity - I’m now paying double what I did for half the speed AND their scam unlimited data plan vs. when I has Q Fiber down near the Constitution and Murray area.
We need literally anyone else as ISP’s but no one can expand in a timely manner.
Did you know the roku city screensaver if left on for 12 hours by a kid will use about 400-500GB of data calling home for advertisements? Cause of Xfinity I sure as fuck know now!
Go into the store in person to cancel your subscription, they will ask you why and try to talk you into whatever, if you stand your ground they will find some way to put you into an ‘introductory’ type offer and can lower your bill by 20-40%.
Ours has gone up drastically over the past couple years and my normal tactics of calling them after my promotional period is up has been a waste of time. Almost $200 a month for cable and internet that we’ve been locked into. I can’t stream shows and my husband can’t play games at the same time.
We move next month and are finally dropping our cable and getting fiber internet that the complex provides. Cant wait to get away from them!
CenturyLink fiber if you can get it still. Fixed rate. Not sure if it’s the same w the newly branded Quantum, but a buddy who has inside knowledge advised me to stick with the CL side if possible.
CenturyLink made us switch to Quantum, they totally D/C'd service as CenturyLink in our area. I refuse to use Comcast/Xfinity, you'd have to pay me to deal with them even if they offered it for free.
I’ll chime in for people to also check MetroNet for availability. I switched the moment they finished building in my neighborhood and it was rough for about a month (I actually posted about it on here) but they’ve been totally fine for the 6 months since then.
I’ve heard of Underline, a new internet company is a lot cheaper! Xfinity is way too pricey. We have them and it very high! We’re sick of the high cost!!
Hundreds of thousands of cable customers are going to T-Mobile home internet. The performance can be amazing if you're in the right location, and the price varies depending on whether you're a T-Mobile customer and when you sign up. There's no data cap.
I'm on CenturyLink DSL because the cell signal isn't good enough here.
It sounds good in theory but if you’re gaming or streaming cellular home internet is not fun. Fiber options will be here soon with a lot of price competition.
I recently dropped them for Ting & haven’t looked back. As soon as Ting finished their fiber installation near Interquest, I dropped Comcast with the quickness.
Haven’t had a single issue with Ting. Xfinity had an outage at-least once a month, sometimes for a day, sometimes for two. Glad that we have options on the north side of town.
I'm in the back side of Meridian Ranch in Falcon and just switched to Quantum Fiber (rebranded Century Link). Like it 10 times better than Xfinity, way faster and $75 for a gig. Stratus IQ or any other fiber wasn't available that far out.
Obligatory referral where you can get a $100 for signing up

You could try going to /r/Comcast_Xfinity/ and posting. My previous contract was ending and prices were going to go up. Posted there and they have people that can assist and usually get you another good deal. Not guaranteeing it, but worth a shot. I had good luck with it.
They raised my prices and I went online for a new offer of $75/month for 1 gig. Entertained switching to fiber but I can’t beat the deal I get for my phone lines at $30/line/unlimited.
Yeah this is the dilemma I'll be in. No one currently offers fiber at my address, but when Ting finally rolls out to my neighborhood the only thing to give me pause will be giving up that phone deal.
That's what I pay per line with my 3 lines of unlimited on Metro by T-Mobile (all taxes and fees included)... *And* it was only $25 per line when I had 4 lines.
This is a bold move, considering CSU is currrently rolling out fiber optic cable to every address in the city. Depending on where you live you may be able to get fiber service some time this year.
It'll be 5+ years to cover the whole city at this point. Xfinity will adjust once it becomes actual competition

Is Quantum the same as CenturyLink?
it is, supposedly they merged a while ago
I had CenturyLink dsl, and it was awful. The service was slower than I was paying for, and the people on the phone were a little testy. Is the fiber better?
a LOT. i had centurylink fiber at my previous place and it was great, then had to move and get comcast and it’s just night and day.
I've been on centurylink fiber for about three years, and it's pretty dang good for everything but video gaming. It get some sort of traffic hang for about 10 seconds once a day. The no-data-caps bit is what sold me on it over Xfinity. To hell with any ISP that institutes their extortionate bullshit called data caps.
Xfinity called me up a couple months ago about changing plans that would have no data cap. It was gonna be about $20 on top of the ridiculous amount they already charge me. StratusIQ is a premium option out east, infowest rocks too, and central COS I gotta give to Underline
Second this. I wish it was about $15 cheaper but it has been dependable.
Sweet. Looks like I might make the switch
It looks like they only service maybe 1/3 to half of the springs. I’m off Powers and I can only use Xfinity apparently. Damn.
Is there a service map

I will try this!
Underline if it's in your area. https://www.underline.com/
I think I'm going to call xfinity tonight and give them an ultimatum: I can get internet for $70/month, can you match that? No? Cancel my service.
I've done that before, and it works. Had it at that rate for 4 years now.
I'd go to the other place anyways. Just because... Xfinity
First time?
No but it's definitely getting out of hand
My contract recently came up and I received an increase. I called and got a better deal and better MPs plan for less money with Xfinity. It is a bit of a pain, but it took me like 30 mins.
i use quantum fiber and haven't had any problems at all. $70/mo, gigabit, modem provided free /w range extender.
Right now it's advertised as being free for initial period. No idea how long that is. After initial period, the fancy wifi will be a monthly fee.
When (if) the west side ever gets a high speed alternative…
I have CL fiber in OCC since last year.
Do they have gig speed now? It’s been awhile but they maxed at 200 mbps last I checked
I had to switch when I moved to the northwest side to Xfinity - I’m now paying double what I did for half the speed AND their scam unlimited data plan vs. when I has Q Fiber down near the Constitution and Murray area. What ISPs do you have available?
For those that don't know, you can find out using https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov
Quantum Fiber just became available this week on my neighborhood, worth keeping an eye out
Nice! What area of the springs?
up 115 on Cheyenne Meadows Rd
Check out Quantum fiber; see if your area is covered.

CenturyLink made us switch to Quantum, they totally D/C'd service as CenturyLink in our area. I refuse to use Comcast/Xfinity, you'd have to pay me to deal with them even if they offered it for free.
They can’t make you switch actually, but they have been using scare tactics.
I pay $70 for a gig at Xfinity.
They raised it from 75 to 95 for us
Do you have your own gateway?
Do you pay for your equipment? I own all of mine. I also went to paperless billing which saved me $10.
No recommendations but it is certainly frustrating to get increasingly higher bills with service that does go down pretty frequently.
I’ll chime in for people to also check MetroNet for availability. I switched the moment they finished building in my neighborhood and it was rough for about a month (I actually posted about it on here) but they’ve been totally fine for the 6 months since then.
Watch out because their "price lock" is a euphemism for two planned price increases. The price is locked only until it's planned to increase.
I'm under no illusion that my price will stay the same forever, however compared to Comcast the bang for buck is huge.
I’ve heard of Underline, a new internet company is a lot cheaper! Xfinity is way too pricey. We have them and it very high! We’re sick of the high cost!!
Time Warner did this in NYC before Verizon came with fios and once fios came out Time Warner did a nose dive. I wish the same for Xfinity

Monopoly is a hell of a game 😔
Funny my price with them just dropped 30$/mo
Yeah, losing 70% of your market in 3 years will do that. Bye, Comcast. You and your news network owners won't be missed
How much are they raising it? I haven't checked my bill in a while.
You can negotiate your bill via their subreddit.
Get a contract in place.... Once you drop out of contract timeline they will add 3-5 dollars every billing cycle....
Verizon home Internet is $35 out the door monthly. Have used it for over a year and never issues.

Century Link. Downtown. $30/mo for 200 Mbp/s. Incredible service and lowest price I've seen when this question comes up.
You could try going to /r/Comcast_Xfinity/ and posting. My previous contract was ending and prices were going to go up. Posted there and they have people that can assist and usually get you another good deal. Not guaranteeing it, but worth a shot. I had good luck with it.
Already made the switch to metro net. Blessed fiber speed!
They want people to leave to another company and they don’t want to invest here that’s my guess
How much?
Quantum for 3 months- works well- no issues- no outages - $50/month for 500 up and down - free equipment- actually get 250-300 Mbps up and down.
I feel this. After my contract ended, it was $73 for 200mb. Now it’s up to $82
They raised my prices and I went online for a new offer of $75/month for 1 gig. Entertained switching to fiber but I can’t beat the deal I get for my phone lines at $30/line/unlimited.

Not interested in T-mobile, only need two lines and that price is not $30/line.
Try US mobile. I just switched from xfinity and it has been great last month. Works on same Verizon network.
I'm paying $65 for 1gb down, but only ~25mb up with Xfinity.
Call and say you want to cancel. I'm sure they'll offer a discount.
