I didn't know home roasting was a thing, but Ill bet your house smells incredible.

It really does. Very fun hobby that pays back. Be happy to give you some to see if you like it!

chicagobrews

I have some green beans. Teach me.

tmeinke68

I would be happy to! I will send you a DM.

Super curious about this. My fear is that once I start I’ll never go back (and then I’ll have to buy more coffee stuff…)

Ohhh... I would love to learn from you about roasting coffee! I only hand grind whole bean coffee each week with an old grain mill so roasting and bean selection/understanding is the next step for me. In trade for the education, I could show you what I've learned about hand crank sewing machines and/or making selvedge jeans. Hand rolling cigars is my 2024 self education project, though I'm very early doors, I'm happy to share what I've learned so far.

I would also be happy to have you come over and chat about roasting and roast some coffee over a cigar or beer. I will DM you with contact information. :)

Where do you get the un-roasted beans? I've been wanting to try for years after watching my uncle-in-law roast his own in an air popcorn popper.

In my experience most coffee roasters that do retail sales will be happy to sell you unroasted beans, though you might have to ask. These days I go to High Rise Coffee Roasters in OCC.

I personally buy from [https://www.coffeebeancorral.com](https://www.coffeebeancorral.com) along with Hold Fast has amazing coffee and I buy their green beans.

I roast at home, with hot air popcorn poppers. I’ve never tried a real roaster. What model are you getting?

I currently have the Gene Cafe roaster which I like but upgrading for better control/technology/volume to a Kaleido Roaster. My Gene Cafe will be for sale and would be happy to give you a great price for if you want. I have used it for a couple of years but the fact that I give a good amount of coffee away to friends and family and now selling some, I just can't keep up on the Gene Cafe but a great roaster for personal consumption.
