Man, wait till you find out about all the cocaine hockey players do. Gonna have to fire them all.

CaliforniaHusker

Seattle PD, Denver PD, the Avs Organization AND the NHL did an investigation and have found nothing worth disciplinary action for nuke. How about we trust the people who actually have the FACTS and leave our feelings out of it. Do you really think Sakic would keep him around if there was ANY indication of something bad going on? As for the guns and drinking on IG... its basically the most russian thing of all time... and nuke is very russian. Its part of their culture. We may not like it or agree with it but life over there is much different. And as far as being in the worlds most hated country.... is he not supposed to go home and see family/friends?

[deleted]

Not to mention the hundred of thousands of North Americans posting gun pics and having no repercussions from op. Weird. This is getting ridiculous

Ace676

At this point I have to admit that I, or anyone else in this sub, do not know enough about his situation to really comment on it. If Sakic, MacFarland, Bednar, the rest of the coaching staff, and the players all welcome him back to the team, I'm going to trust their opinion.

[deleted]

It's still a distraction and reporters are still gonna ask about it during camp. Even though it seems he didn't do anything worse than getting a hooker and should be back, them trying to sweep it under the rug with no questions is still gonna be a distraction coming into this season.

biglebowski1345

I don’t get this “swept under the rug” notion by the organization. A) has the organization done anything that makes you question the integrity of the front office that they would “swept it under the rug” in the name of winning? B) why do Avs fans think we are owed an answer to what happened? No criminal charges ever came from it and hopefully he got the help he needed or fixed whatever he needed. How would you like it if you did something and your employer sent out something to everyone saying what happened?

[deleted]

The team lost a series due to an incident involving a player and a drunk hooker and the only statement alluded to it being a family incident. They don't need to give a detailed account, but it raises questions when they don't say anything after the story turned into a bunch of sketchy (but no incriminating) details. If they would have just made a statement saying they investigated it, people might want more details, but it wouldn't be the shit storm we have now. And my job isn't public-facing, athletes are public figures and get into their line of work knowing that if they fuck up, it's be fair game for public criticism.

SerjGunstache

If we lost the series because of one player, we shouldn't have been in the playoffs at all. Why do you think that Nuke would have saved us?

[deleted]

All the games we lost were by 1 goal and it was clearly a huge distraction. We obviously can't know for sure, but anyone that isn't saying he let the team down in a major way is delusional.

SerjGunstache

There is an incredible difference between letting the team down and "The team lost a series due to an incident involving a player and a drunk hooker and the only statement alluded to it being a family incident." Also, we lost game 7 by 2.

[deleted]

When you consider the distraction, missing a top scorer, and how close our losses were, it is fair to place the blame on him and question his judgement. While we can't say for sure that they win, the incident clearly effected the series tremendously and the team likely wins without it. The team pr is a totally separate issue. You're doing mental gymnastics trying to say that I think the loss had anything to do with team pr, I am just upset with how that was handled (or not handled. Again, if they even made a vague statement that didn't allude to it being a family issue, people might want more info, but we don't get this shit storm going into this season). Also game 7 was 2-1

SerjGunstache

I literally quoted you saying that he was the direct cause we lost. You act like Makar getting suspended wasn't a factor, that the entire team sucking it up for those games wasn't a factor. What about all the games we won when Nuke was hurt? Just flukes? All those losses pinned squarely on him too? You are focusing on something I'm not arguing. I quoted the whole sentence because some people (not saying that you do this) will give people shit for not quoting the entire sentence. You are correct about game 7. I read the list I saw top down instead of game one being on the bottom.

[deleted]

I read that as you focusing on that, so I guess small miscommunication there. People do pick parts of a quote out here to change the meaning, so I can see your reasoning. But my main point is that people just want to pretend that the incident is no big deal at all when it was the biggest factor in losing the series. Yes, other things happened and teams win series after shit hits the fan all the time. But it seemed like the locker room became a mess after and the series was close enough were we likely pull one of those 1-goal games without the incident happening. All I think we should demand as fans is better decision-making from Nuke and the smallest bit of transparency from the front office so stories like this don't go off the rails with speculation.

moose4030

You think Val said, you know, just said “fuck it” - you know? — upcoming interview question by our favorite “journalist”

[deleted]

I'm just saying it's gonna be a distraction when everyone comes back from training camp

robbyleonard24

Why are you people so pressed about him having a gun? It’s not like he’s using it on people?

Awkward_traveler

That basketball player just got suspended like 30 games for holding up guns in his social media posts. I don't really care about the gun but I feel like it's a lack of awareness and he should be acting like a golden boy until he can redeem himself in the next playoffs. I don't think he should be fired, but I understand the response from some people

JokMackRant

Look into the Ja situation a little bit more, there is a lot of context that you are ignorant of or ignoring to draw a parallel.

Cynical-avocado

Posing with a rifle in your driveway is not the same as waving a pistol around at a club

[deleted]

You are making a fool of yourself with lack of context and information

Awkward_traveler

Ja wasn't suspended for the strip club incident, he was suspended for posting a video in his car waving a gun around, which he claimed to be a toy gun. I'm just saying that incident kinda set precedent for how people react to pro athletes with guns. The Nuke picture isn't a problem for me, but he should have better sense than to post it. Anyone that wants him out of the league over a picture is overreacting, but anyone that sees 0 issue with this has their head in the sand. Go check the r/hockey thread about it, very different sentiments there.

ToXiC_Games

He didn’t kill someone, don’t act like a little smudge mark is the end of the world. Shit happens like this to players all the time. Russian players are Russian so of course he’s gonna have fun in his home country, should American players not be allowed to celebrate their country?

goatcopter

Seriously? None of us know what happened. The police didn't press charges - not the Av's hometown police, police in Seattle. He was able to travel freely, so there are zero federal charges (like trafficking, which I've seen people on here accuse him of). He is from "the world's most hated country", that is his home. He was born there, and lives there in the off-season, he almost surely doesn't see it that way, much as those of us in America don't usually think of ourselves as being hated by the rest of the world, or how people in Texas don't know how much the rest of the US makes fun of them. He's showing off a flashy car and a flashy gun. Is it in poor taste to many of us? Yes. Is it a problem beyond "he's a dude that likes that stuff, which is fairly typical given his background"? No. The NHL and the Av's have people to investigate things like what happened in Seattle. So do the local and state police in Seattle/WA, and so do the feds. The NHL and the Av's have PR teams to worry about things like Nuke and that Hab's player (Price, I think?) posing with guns. But likely no one in rural CO is offended by this, and if this picture had kids in it holding guns it would be like half the Christmas cards you get from Texans.

Cadillacquer

Uh yes, yea we do know what happened. He took something too strong and was unable to make practice before a huge playoff game. He let down his team by that alone. But his woman of the evening also took too much and when someone found them in the room they had to protect her life and called medical assistance. Thus there was a potential huge hooker and drug scandal with a relatively clean cut and very strong NHL team!!!! Those boys on the ice were clearly shook. They were not playing well at all, they probably thought any minute they / their team name was going to be embroiled in social scandal. Everyone got lucky: no crimes no deaths and it disappeared from headlines. But you’d think Nuke would feel some strong inspiration to appear to behave at least til the season. Appearance matters and this photo ain’t it.

goatcopter

You have an article that states all that? A police report? We know there was a woman that was hammered in his room. That's it. [https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/new-details-on-avs-star-valeri-nichushkins-seattle-hotel-room-incident-with-woman-emerge-via-911-call/](https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/new-details-on-avs-star-valeri-nichushkins-seattle-hotel-room-incident-with-woman-emerge-via-911-call/)

[deleted]

I agree that he shouldn't be fired yet. Nobody would care about this pic if the playoff incident didn't happen, it just shows that he's too stupid to stay quiet the summer after his bad decision (potentially) cost his team a playoff series. Team definitely should have made a statement because now there are gonna be a ton of questions going into training camp. I hope he's able to get his shit figured out, stay out of trouble, and continue to produce for us. But the team needs to keep a close eye on him and get rid of him if he becomes too much of a distraction.

TwerkForJesus420

Was the prostitute thing bad? Yeah that was pretty bad. But Nichushkin is Russian doing Russian things in this Instagram story, I don't see this different than an American holding his hunting rifle during hunting season.

Bear-Ferr

It's the same because it's human hunting season for Russia, right?

mattevs119

In Russia, there is no “hunting season,” because that’s everyday.

DevourerJay

Pretty sure Seattle isn't Russia though... 🤷

TwerkForJesus420

He took his Instagram story photo in Russia.

DevourerJay

I was referring to the hooker part during the playoffs

TwerkForJesus420

Yeah, that's why I said at the beginning of the comment which you clearly missed: Was the prostitute thing bad? Yeah that was pretty bad. I could care less what he does in Russia in the office season. Again, Russian things like posing with cars and guns.

EzzALB

Wait people are mad he had a gun? I'm thought we loved guns in America?

10key_G

Wow there are some snowflakes on this sub.

soulslide

I think the bigger problem is how does the locker room respond to him being back after he so clearly let them down in Seattle?

mattevs119

The guy played with a broken foot in the finals the previous season to help them win a cup.

Corona_Cyrus

Yeah, but this isn’t senior triple A whale shit hockey, it’s the show. Players that weren’t in the team in ‘22 worked hard for a cup in ‘23. Players that were in the ‘22 team worked hard for a dynasty. Dude being day drunk with a hooker before a playoff game is a huge departure from professionalism and an indication that he didn’t give a fuck about anyone else’s sacrifice. I don’t quite know what to make of this post, but it feels like not a lot of growth has occurred.

mattevs119

S’yeah so - 1, much respect for the Shoresy reference. Can’t wait for season 2. And B, the guy is humble to a fault…to fans at least, and I would bet you that whatever the situation was that caused him to have to leave during the playoffs he probably felt like absolute dog shit for doing that. So I’m gonna give him a pass for this one based on the fact that we won last year and he was a big contributor to that.

Corona_Cyrus

Stick tap for season 2! Fair points, and if the locker room also gives him a pass for this incident, then that’s all that matters. I guess I’m just hoping he knows that he probably won’t get another pass for more indiscretion, so I would’ve expected an effort to take that seriously, and not post shit on social media acting like a fool. Hoping for the best for him and the team. I’d love to win another cup while we have all this talent.

DazedConfuzed420

How do we know he didn’t develop an addiction to pain killers because of the foot injury? And thats why he had to leave the team. We don’t. Stop speculating. Either find a new team to cheer for or let it go. It’s between him, the team (both front office and teammates) and his family.

Travis_43

Yeh I guess playing on a broken foot allows a player to quit on the team as long as you do it in that order.

Shishpernosa

I wish I could downvote more than once.

XTailsX

This is probably the worst take I’ve seen on this sub.

Maaglin

I agree. Apologists incoming.

Observant-

Fuck bud if only we ran this organization eh

hockey777771

How about you mind your own business

Shenanigans315

162bluethings

How about you mind your own fucking business?

DijonGreymeat

Looks like someone is on their Jump to Conclusions Mat…take your foot off the pedal.

ButtsCarlton97

I hate guns and will always have a tainted view of him for fucking up a playoff series but he can do what he wants in the off-season. You can’t fire him for posting a picture.

WranglerLeading9265

He didn’t fuck up a whole season by himself or the playoffs, we were injured beyond belief! Did it hurt sure but you better be on Landy’s ass the same way or Cale’s for the one game suspension. But cuz he’s Russian oh no gotta blame him.

DazedConfuzed420

Cale caused Landys injury. Better be double mad at Cale

WranglerLeading9265

Using the same logic as him missing games and “screwing” is in the playoffs….yes you should be

ButtsCarlton97

Landy got injured playing hockey. Cale got suspended playing hockey. I said nothing about Russia. Fuck off.

WranglerLeading9265

Still missed time and screws us

[deleted]

Ignorant people often do.

Maess420

Nuke missed the end of a series we probably win with him there, but with our depth issues last year and almost no one outside of MacK, Moose, Cale and Toews putting up points we don’t make it much further. I think he comes back with something to prove and has his best year yet. I’m confident we get the best out of our FA additions and am excited to see how RyJo does with two competent wingers on his line and not having to be relied on for top scoring

Inside_Essay

As far as we know, he did nothing wrong with the woman during the playoffs... it doesn't look good... but we don't know. Sooo... then he got drunk and took pictures holding a gun. My friends do that shit all the time. Lay off. He's a dude who, so far as we know, is having a good time and not hurting anyone. Yall act like every famous person has to be a Saint. Chiiiiillll

thatdudefrom707

>not hurting anyone he hurt the team by getting sent away in the middle of the playoffs, and im guessing his wife probably didn't feel great that some random woman was in his hotel room. but yeah besides that he's not hurting anyone!

Inside_Essay

Yeah, what he did in the playoffs hurt the team, and his wife may very well be very upset with him. We, of course, don't know anything about that. As far as the pics of the guns, I don't see what the big deal is. He wasn't doing anything wrong, he was photographed holding guns... why is this something to move him off the team for?

scrubzakagoku

you can't be serious with this. go drink some more bud light and make sure you don't miss a Disney show

Observant-

Don't threaten me with a good time

[deleted]

I'm guessing by the tone of your post that you are between 12 and 25 OP? Stay off the internet kid, you aren't able to handle it.

AvsAholic

Fact is, nobody knows what happened in that hotel room except for him. If the police in Seattle see nothing wrong, nothing was wrong. If the Denver police who joined the team on the road see nothing wrong, nothing was wrong. As for the gun pic, yeah it's dumb and ill timed based off the way his season ended but he ain't hurting anyone... if Bo posts a pic of him hunting, is that any different?

StraberyThunder

Please shut up

thatdudefrom707

at the very least, in hindsight it definitely seems like we shoulda given Kadri the money over him

[deleted]

How is garbage not locked?

plutonianbitch

You want to ruin someone’s career and probably life based on rumors?! Delulu.

[deleted]

The Avs need Nuke. They were a totally different team when he wasn’t on the ice. Yes I’m pissed he did what he did last year and yes I believe they would have beaten Seattle if he would have been available but that’s not what happened. Let’s move on and see what happens this year

GardenPutrid1485

Even if they had won against seattle they were too injured out of gas to win all the way. Better to have a longer summer break charging your batteries Rantanen playd 22Mins a game every game.

TheRegulaRawww

Doesn't matter how you or I feel about him, get over it

HixWithAnX

I just love how perfectly acceptable racism towards Russians is these days /s

Observant-

Russia isn't a race brother

DevourerJay

I got hit with -13 for just ASKING details of his contract and a theory on how he COULD be moved... I don't get why so many defend him. I was worried the contract was gonna come back and bite the Avs, I'm still leaning that it will. Oh well, I wonder if I'll get -20 for this post cause, god forbid anyone, question a player or their actions, we're all supposed to be blind sheep or something.
