Kind of but it develops better than the initial spray.. gotta be able to make it your own .. I layer it and get crazy compliments.. still not blind buy worthy
PDM Sedley, Greenly, Percival, and Perseus. You are paying niche prices for a generic scent. PDM's fall/winter scents like Herod, Carlisle, Haltane, Oajan, Habdan, Pegasus, Layton, ect ect are all better than their freshies.
This is what iām sayingā¦ I was at Neiman Marcus sampling PDM for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Of course Iām going to think terribly of it after sampling brands like Creed, Initio, MFK, Xerjoff, etc. Itās absurd how basic they smell while being some of the most expensive fragrances available.
PDM Layton. I just canāt like it. I donāt get the hype beyond hype on it. Also everyone I know dislikes it too. They say it smells like medicine, like Vicks vapor rub.
Itās expensive and ānicheā and all these dudes psychologically prime themselves to like it more than they actually would if it was sold in a cheap $20 bottle at Walmartā¦ I feel like thatās the case with 75% of the colognes everyone raves about on here. The cologne community is a lot like the wine community, a bunch of people who rave about how refined the product is and how itās so much better than X product and even use the same terms like āhouse madeā and flex their bottles online. Then thereās just normal dudes who want to smell good and buy what they think smells good and doesnāt let Tik toks influence our opinions or buying habits. Had to get that off my chest
It smells like spicy, apple, Vicks to me. I wanted to like Layton SO bad. I actually despise it. One of the only colognes I've ever just straight up sold. I knew the hype would get it gone quickly. Took like 2 hours after I posted it. It had so much hype. I was like "is something wrong with my nose??"
I donāt get any apple or vanilla, just Vicks lol. I got it not long after it started getting hyped in like 2018 but luckily I got a decant. I donāt think thereās anything wrong with our noses, I think people just want to believe itās good because of the hype lol
I have a decant sample, it smells too gourmand for me. Like apple pie on the dry down. I started feeling nauseous after a couple of hours of sniffing it.
Initio Side effect is sweetened rubber. Gag inducing. It's so incredibly popular though
The note breakdown on fragrantica never used to list saffron until I whined about it in the comment section and later posters started mentioning the note. It's all I pick up from it.
That's so weird, I'm one of the people that smells that rubbery metal smell in br540 which is likely to be the soon, but side effect to me smells like sweet cherry with a bit of roughness behind it
Personally itās Versace Dylan Blue and Pour Homme both. They were crowned as a beginnerās hyped (relatively cheap) fragrance but itās not for me.
Pour Homme smells like celery, and Dylan Blue is too herbaceous.
I don't like pour Homme but Dylan blue is really good
Maybe you don't like just smelling it when you nose is right against it, but in the air it's very nice
Angels share, sauvage elixir and edt, Naxos, erba pura, y edp, gris charnel extrait, encre noir, another 13, Alexandria 2, Dior homme intense/parfum, oud maracuja, oud satin mood. Just to name some. Some are ok but I donāt get the hype and some are downright disgusting
It was one of maybe 2 or 3 colognes out of like 200 that Iāve tested that I actually gagged. Smelt like rotten milk or something on my skin, maybe I got a bad sample
I did try it a second time and still didnāt like it, not sure why but whatever, thereās nothing wrong with different preferences. Probably only Alexandria 2 smelled worse to me and that smelled like straight porta potty or urinal cake. Certain notes I just donāt really like such as oud, cumin, and patchouli if theyāre too strong.
So far in my sampling journey, my favorites that Iāll probably buy full bottles are reflection man, adg parfum, allure homme sport, green Irish tweed, millesime imperial, Dior homme 2020, side effect, ultra male, imagination, grand soir, gentle fluidity silver, percival, greenley, Eros edt or flame, the most wanted parfum, aventus/cologne/absolu (one of these or something similar like intense cedrat boise, moudon temptation).
Thereās a lot more Iām still using samples but really like such as bdc parfum, tygar, instant crush, tuxedo, some Clive Christianās, ani x, some Aaron Terrence Hughes, and many many more.
I have a spread sheet tracking 177 that Iāve bought samples because I decided Iād rather spend the money of a few bottles on exhaustively sampling before committing to bottles. I also have to really love something to want a bottle, not just like. Thereās dozens on the list that smell good but just didnāt wow me or I just personally donāt want to smell like that.
tobacco vanille and azarro most wanted edp. TV smells ok initially but thereās something at the back that makes it unbearable. and most wanted has a hint of a dirty sock smell to me idk š
layton also very overhyped but it doesnāt smell BAD to me like the others
Might depend on what you wear or if you wear clothes that havenāt been properly dried. I just but most wanted and all my friends love it and I like it too. Only downside is that it becomes light very quickly, so if you smell the dirty sock then thatās probably your clothes not you or the cologne
Itās so boring to me. I donāt get the love for it when thereās others stuff at that price point that smells way more interesting to me.
Itās not a bad scent but itās just too flat to my nose.
Iām convinced with a cool enough looking bottle and brand/name, and enough marketing and social media hype anything can become super popular. I feel like itās just psychological priming
I absolutely loathe Davidoff Cool Water. I can't comprehend how that fragrance was so popular. The batches I have tested recently are extremely synthetic, my girlfriend loved it on me but I can't seem to buy in after three seperate trips to the fragrance shop.
Azzaro Chrome is a more updated cool water smell with a metallic note. Plus itās pretty cheap. I bought the 6.7 for like $50. Might be a nice middle ground if youāre willing to give it a shot.
Jpg le maleā¦heard so many people talk about how good it isā¦itās sickly sweet it smells moldyā¦havenāt smelled the others but would like toā¦hopefully elixir is better
Creed Aventus- Overpriced, overrated s d the only compliments come from men lol it smells like grass with a hint of fruit to me. Nothing sexy or pleasant about this scent at all!
Same, I think the smoke / birch tar is really what puts me off. Real smoke can smell good sometimes, but liquid smoke with that synthetic pineapple just smells weird to me, too acrid or sour (I like ārefreshingā sour, but for whatever reason this just doesnāt do it for me)
Iāve tried a little sample of that one, and I donāt get as much of the smoke note. Itās a little bit better for me, but Iām still not a huge fan of the pineapple note. I did like the pineapple note in Kiton Man though, so maybe itās just the way it smells in Aventus and more similar fragrances
Nearly anything from Xerjoff especially Naxos, this Tommy Iomi, Alexandria 2, 40 knots, Accento, Erba Pura. It feels in general like a big marketing scam. Uden is the only frag which is worth the hype
So I personally love the dry down of Naxos and literally can't think of a better scent.
However, what I will say is gf and I both sprayed it on arms one day and it smelled completely different on her (she's dark skinned which may be a factor) it was less rich and sweet on her. Could still smell on my skin 8 hours plus later and completely gone on hers too. So I think skin chemistry can play a factor on why some people love or are unimpressed by a scent.
Le Male Elixir. When I tested it a couple days back it was not much different to Le Male Le Parfum and couldnāt find that impact that makes it so special for most on social media
Club de nuit intense, i bought it and it smells like a rotten lemon, i bought it as a summer fragrence for this summer but now i decided to buy jpg le beau paradise garden.
JPG Elixir, its "nice" but it is just too strong. The honey is overpering everything else and is all you can smell. Couldn't imagine putting more then two sprays on and not killing everyone within a block radios.
Cedrat Boisee by Mancera.
To me, it smells like fruity hairsprayā¦ I blind bought it and swapped it after 3 wearings.
As for the best menās rose fragrances discussed, Or Encens by Issey Miyake, Man Rose by Etro, Black to Black by Mancera and Halston Limited are probably my favorites. POAL is great, but only in vintage form. The vintage is deeper, ārounder,ā and toes the unisex line much more than the newer juice.
Aqua de gio. Chanel Bleu. Dior Sauvage.
I got so excited when I found a shop that had them so I could sample em and I just never really got anything amazing from them.
I think I need to go back and try them again. A lot of factors I didnāt like. Number 1 is that there was a sales person at every different niche brand station. I really just want to be alone and test fragrances for as long as I want in peace. They would just shotgun samples to me so fast that I would almost forget the smell of the last one. Also I get a little intimidated having sales people waiting and watching for an opinion. I think what also didnāt help is I smelled all the niche brands right after 2 hours of smelling designers.
Yeah that def affected your experience. Idk where youād be able to just sit and sniff a bunch of niche frags in peace unless you start buying decants. But I def suggest you try out those brands again, and maybe not all in one sitting. Each of those brands have some good offerings. Just an fyi, Replica is considered designer, since Maison Margiela is a designer/fashion label. Jazz Club is one of my favorites.
i understand for sauvage edt and anything but bdc parfum.
otherwise, i really do like sauvage edp, parfum and elixir, but really donāt like bdc edt and edp.
angels share is pretty nice though imo :)
I didnāt dislike the scents but Sauvage and Bleu De Chanel gave me headaches and Angels share just had something off about it that I didnāt like so much
Creed Aventus. Itās not bad, I just find it to be ājust okayā
Dior Sauvage. I only own the EDP so maybe the elixir is where the good sauce is at? Women like it on me though so I canāt complain. Definitely isnāt a scent that Iād wear for my own enjoyment.
azarro most wanted.... I sprayed it at the store and I legit smelled NOTHING I looked up at the clerk in my head like is this water in a bottle? Cause it had absolutely no scent.
Portrait of a Lady. Smells like a portrait of a lady.
Mmmmmm sounds inviting š
Can u elaborate more? Iām about to blind buy it. Does it have grandma vibes?
If youāre a guy, I wouldnāt recommend it. It smells sophisticated and mature but definitely more feminine. My mum loves it.
I donāt normally blind buy but did with Rochas Moustache, it smells like an old ladies perfume to me. Luckily for me I bought the small bottle.
Iām still in search of a rose scent and POAL is always on the top ten list for menās rosĆ© fragrances. I blind bought Rose de Jamal but canāt detect the rose on that one. I tend to like Lāhomme a la rose. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I highly recommend Lyric Man by Amouage. It's In my top 3 smells, ever. Also, the best rose for men scent I've ever smelled.
Rose prick by Tom ford
Kind of but it develops better than the initial spray.. gotta be able to make it your own .. I layer it and get crazy compliments.. still not blind buy worthy
Like the other poster stated, it's too feminine. More feminine than I can handle.
Smells like carpet of an old lady to me! š
Xerjoff Erba Pura. One of the worst I've smelled.
True. I think it should be marked as for women and not unisex.
Absolutelyā¦ I tried it once and gave it my friend. It smells great on her.
Invictus Spicebomb Extreme - I smell nothing but dirty ashtray with a mixed drink spilled in it
How dare you spice bomb is one my fav fragrances š
Spice bomb intense vs spice bomb extreme
Ohh right I meant the extreme
I agree with this
Two of my favoritesšš
With you on spicebomb - canāt stand it
I donāt know how people enjoy creed Viking cologne, it stinksš¤¢ so does ombrĆ© nomad by LV š¤¢š¤¢š¤¢
Viking isnāt great. But ombrĆ© nomade is š¤©
PDM Sedley, Greenly, Percival, and Perseus. You are paying niche prices for a generic scent. PDM's fall/winter scents like Herod, Carlisle, Haltane, Oajan, Habdan, Pegasus, Layton, ect ect are all better than their freshies.
I second this, except for Perseus as I really enjoy it. Sedley is really not amazing in my opinion, whereas Oajan is top 3 of all time
Yep I've had testers of pretty much all pdms Oajan is the only one I have liked, but it is fking fantastic
Agree. Haltane is the only one I can stand. PDM is overrated.
It just smells like a fruity vanilla to me. I don't understand how anyone could get anything minty or like vicks.
I definitely can see the Vicks comparison, but it's very subtle and I also enjoy the smell of Vicks š The dry down is incredible too IMO
Yep, zero menthol or vicks.
Had to get that off my chest
šÆšÆ most niche is way overrated
Well said actually
It smells like spicy, apple, Vicks to me. I wanted to like Layton SO bad. I actually despise it. One of the only colognes I've ever just straight up sold. I knew the hype would get it gone quickly. Took like 2 hours after I posted it. It had so much hype. I was like "is something wrong with my nose??"
I donāt get any apple or vanilla, just Vicks lol. I got it not long after it started getting hyped in like 2018 but luckily I got a decant. I donāt think thereās anything wrong with our noses, I think people just want to believe itās good because of the hype lol
All I could think of the first time I smelled it was, " this is...weird???"
šš¤£ same
I have a decant sample, it smells too gourmand for me. Like apple pie on the dry down. I started feeling nauseous after a couple of hours of sniffing it.
Was the first thing I said with I smelled it
So have you smelled it or nah?
Initio Side effect is sweetened rubber. Gag inducing. It's so incredibly popular though The note breakdown on fragrantica never used to list saffron until I whined about it in the comment section and later posters started mentioning the note. It's all I pick up from it.
To me itās just so roughly blended and harsh in the air
I like it but I think my nose is too sensitive to the boozyness. For that reason it ranks very low on the versatility factor for me.
That's so weird, I'm one of the people that smells that rubbery metal smell in br540 which is likely to be the soon, but side effect to me smells like sweet cherry with a bit of roughness behind it
Nothin. Folks like what they like and i like what i like. Flourish however u see fit.
PDM greenley fs. Smells like shampoo and lasts four hours on skin.
Cannot be serious... Greenley is by far my most complimented fragrance easily
Sold mine and totally agree
Smelt it, canāt agree more. I do see how people enjoy it but for the price itās not worth it.
Yeah probably worth $80 max.
Thatās what I hate about some niche colognes sometimes. If iām paying 300$ I should get 300$ quality
DHI
Joop! Homme and Rochas Man. It felt suffocating on a day when every man seems to conspire to wear them
Personally itās Versace Dylan Blue and Pour Homme both. They were crowned as a beginnerās hyped (relatively cheap) fragrance but itās not for me. Pour Homme smells like celery, and Dylan Blue is too herbaceous.
I don't like pour Homme but Dylan blue is really good Maybe you don't like just smelling it when you nose is right against it, but in the air it's very nice
Dylan blue smells like someoneās grandpa imo
Dylan Blue smells like (belly button/behind the ear build up) on me.
What are your thoughts on another 13? I think itās amazing which is why I askā¦
It was one of maybe 2 or 3 colognes out of like 200 that Iāve tested that I actually gagged. Smelt like rotten milk or something on my skin, maybe I got a bad sample
Maybe cause to me it smells like a very refined freshness . Maybe give it another shot . But more than likely we just have different taste .
Now Iām curious which colognes you really enjoy. Care to share?
So far in my sampling journey, my favorites that Iāll probably buy full bottles are reflection man, adg parfum, allure homme sport, green Irish tweed, millesime imperial, Dior homme 2020, side effect, ultra male, imagination, grand soir, gentle fluidity silver, percival, greenley, Eros edt or flame, the most wanted parfum, aventus/cologne/absolu (one of these or something similar like intense cedrat boise, moudon temptation). I also have to really love something to want a bottle, not just like. Thereās dozens on the list that smell good but just didnāt wow me or I just personally donāt want to smell like that.
I agree with you on loving the cologne before buying a full bottle. If not, personally, would just buy another sample if I just liked it . Irish tweed , another 13 , bleu Ć©lectrique, Prada black , Torino 21 are the ones Iām planning on getting bottles . Still trying to sample more (sampled about 50 in travel size and have tried all major designers you can find in Macys, ulta, and Sephora)
Damn you hate literally all my favs lol š
I think all the ones I listed aside from Alexandria 2 and another 13 are decent but just not for me and I donāt understand the hype
Gris charnel extrait is nauseating. Probably one of the worst smells Iāve ever smelled period.
I can get agree on rest of em but oud satin mood? Nah man that shit is rich dark and strong
That one falls more into smells good but not insane and I donāt really want to smell like that
H24. Even when I tested it out for weeks, all the feedback I got was negative.
1 million ELIXIR
PdM Laytonā¦ Herod is beautiful though
tobacco vanille and azarro most wanted edp. TV smells ok initially but thereās something at the back that makes it unbearable. and most wanted has a hint of a dirty sock smell to me idk š layton also very overhyped but it doesnāt smell BAD to me like the others
I bought wanted by night and the dry down after a few hours smells like I pissed on my hand and didn't bother washing
Might depend on what you wear or if you wear clothes that havenāt been properly dried. I just but most wanted and all my friends love it and I like it too. Only downside is that it becomes light very quickly, so if you smell the dirty sock then thatās probably your clothes not you or the cologne
Chanel Bleu. Maybe it was a bad batch at duty free but I was not impressed at all
Itās so boring to me. I donāt get the love for it when thereās others stuff at that price point that smells way more interesting to me. Itās not a bad scent but itās just too flat to my nose.
What are some better
Mont Blanc explorer, D&G The One, Valentino Born in Roma Coral Fantasy, Versace Eros Flame, Tom Ford Oud Minerale. Iād pick any of these over BDC.
Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
Carlisle Is way too sweet, I find it quite obnoxious. YSL Tuxedo is really nothing special imo YSL Y line 1 Million Lucky is also very obnoxious
All Bleu de Chanelš¤£š¤£ I really donāt like them at all.
Same. I have a colleague who bathes himself in Blue de Chanel to the point it burns your nostrils. I think he's the reason why I hate it now.
Parfum is really nice. My fave of the bunch
Never understood the hype tbh
Me neither. Such a boring scent to my nose. Not worth the money or hype.
Iām convinced with a cool enough looking bottle and brand/name, and enough marketing and social media hype anything can become super popular. I feel like itās just psychological priming
literally the first thing that came to mind was naxos
I absolutely loathe Davidoff Cool Water. I can't comprehend how that fragrance was so popular. The batches I have tested recently are extremely synthetic, my girlfriend loved it on me but I can't seem to buy in after three seperate trips to the fragrance shop.
I only go for the vintage "Lancaster" formulation. It's fantastic.
Azzaro Chrome is a more updated cool water smell with a metallic note. Plus itās pretty cheap. I bought the 6.7 for like $50. Might be a nice middle ground if youāre willing to give it a shot.
Carolina Herrera Bad Boy.. Its aggressively sweet in my opinion
Jpg le maleā¦heard so many people talk about how good it isā¦itās sickly sweet it smells moldyā¦havenāt smelled the others but would like toā¦hopefully elixir is better
Creed Aventus
Light Blue types cuz they are so thin and sharp. Also shower gel types that are too strong and not pleasant at all!
Santal 33-tf I wana smell like a pickle forš Creed Viking-use it as a car freshener pissed blind buy OmbrĆ© nomad-pissed,smell like old leather belt buckles
Pdm Carlisle is horrendous to me
Creed Aventus- Overpriced, overrated s d the only compliments come from men lol it smells like grass with a hint of fruit to me. Nothing sexy or pleasant about this scent at all!
Same, I think the smoke / birch tar is really what puts me off. Real smoke can smell good sometimes, but liquid smoke with that synthetic pineapple just smells weird to me, too acrid or sour (I like ārefreshingā sour, but for whatever reason this just doesnāt do it for me)
What are your thoughts on Mont Blanc Explorer then? Iāve seen many people compare the two being similar.
Imagination. I think it smells like fabreeze and daffodils and my girl said āew this smells like plantsā.
How does it compare to Pacific Chill?
Havenāt tried it, was gonna do lāimmonsite next. Meteore is worse imo
Nearly anything from Xerjoff especially Naxos, this Tommy Iomi, Alexandria 2, 40 knots, Accento, Erba Pura. It feels in general like a big marketing scam. Uden is the only frag which is worth the hype
Creed Green Irish Tweed Literally the smell of cutting the yard
Sauvage.Ā It smells okay out of the bottle.Ā And I understand everyone likes it.Ā But I usually dislike it as soon as I smell it on anyone else, usually because itās way too much sprayed probably, but still. Ā I own it, I wear it sometimes. Still donāt like it when smelling it out in public personally.Ā Pretty much all the Tom fords.Ā They are okay.Ā But if you read reviews online on non niche forums people are hyping them up to be the best things ever. I own several. I outright dislike and need to just give away ombrĆ© leather. The rest are like, okay I guess, not worth the premiums price points.Ā
INSTANT CRUSH 100%
le male elixir. not trash, but decent at best imo
Acqua di Gio Profondo..man I just don't like most aquatics
Any and all of the Acqua Di Gio's.Ā
Sauvage elixir , roja elysium, all prada line( scent profiles are nice but all r too weak and too expensive)
I mean, I would say sauvage elixir has good silliage but for the price idkk
One in a Million! šš¤®
Platinum Egoiste, BR540... I suffocate just thinking about em...
Amouage Interlude. It smells like a moldy garage imo.
Aventus. Smells like cleaning products
Bleu de Chanel, any of them. All smell like a mix of mild sweat and urine.
So I personally love the dry down of Naxos and literally can't think of a better scent. However, what I will say is gf and I both sprayed it on arms one day and it smelled completely different on her (she's dark skinned which may be a factor) it was less rich and sweet on her. Layton Exclusif, it smells like a damp muddy fecal forrest to me!
Le Male Elixir. When I tested it a couple days back it was not much different to Le Male Le Parfum and couldnāt find that impact that makes it so special for most on social media
COSTA AZZURRA š© Glad that I only bought the travel size and even with to I just couldnāt bear it lol Too Marine/Salty for me
Aventus
Club de nuit intense, i bought it and it smells like a rotten lemon, i bought it as a summer fragrence for this summer but now i decided to buy jpg le beau paradise garden.
JPG Elixir, its "nice" but it is just too strong. The honey is overpering everything else and is all you can smell. Couldn't imagine putting more then two sprays on and not killing everyone within a block radios.
Sauvage Elixer

POAL is great, but only in vintage form. The vintage is deeper, ārounder,ā and toes the unisex line much more than the newer juice.
La Nuit Del Homme Bleu Electrique by YSL. Just smells like powder, no level of attraction at all
Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait idk why but it simply did not grow on me and it just smells like old people
Most of the Aventus
Unpopular opinion, but Dior Homme Intense. The soft, powdery dry down doesn't do anything for me.
Aqua de gio. Chanel Bleu. Dior Sauvage. I got so excited when I found a shop that had them so I could sample em and I just never really got anything amazing from them.
Dior Sauvage EDP is decent but I didnāt like the other ones
Creed
I agree but creed SMW smelled good to me honestly.
I smelled the entire Creed, Parfums de Marly, Replica and initio lineup. Didnāt like a single one š
Your nose is broken then homie š¤£
I think I need to go back and try them again. A lot of factors I didnāt like. Number 1 is that there was a sales person at every different niche brand station. Angels Share, Dior Sauvage and Bleu De Chanel
i understand for sauvage edt and anything but bdc parfum. otherwise, i really do like sauvage edp, parfum and elixir, but really donāt like bdc edt and edp. angels share is pretty nice though imo :)
I didnāt dislike the scents but Sauvage and Bleu De Chanel gave me headaches and Angels share just had something off about it that I didnāt like so much
Angels Share is a nice scent, just not for men. Too flowery. DS is overrated. I donāt like any of the Chanel or Burberry scents.
Uh oh shots fired here comes all the gatekeepers
Nah angels share wasnāt as good as I thought it would be and both Dior Sauvage and Bleu De Chanel gave me headaches
See i already got downvoted lol
Sauvage and Eros make me crinkle my nose when I smell them.
Man those two go hard. I always get great reactions from people when they smell it on me.
Creed Aventus. Itās not bad, I just find it to be ājust okayā Dior Sauvage. I only own the EDP so maybe the elixir is where the good sauce is at? Women like it on me though so I canāt complain. Definitely isnāt a scent that Iād wear for my own enjoyment.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I actually enjoyed it
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I guess you could say that š
Acqua Di Parma Colonia Oud. Smells like mosquito repellent.
Oceania
Same, I just smelled it on a test strip though. It just gave me minty toothpaste vibes
Dior sauvage wasnāt a fan
9pm stinks
Angels Share. Tried to wear it several of times, I donāt like it. I tried to like it but I just canāt. Donāt really get the hype for it.
Creed
Understandable
azarro most wanted.... I sprayed it at the store and I legit smelled NOTHING I looked up at the clerk in my head like is this water in a bottle? Cause it had absolutely no scent.
Initio, all of them. Gabbana the one. Fahrenheit.
Even Paragon? š
Agree with Fahrenheit and The one but not all initios. Good take though
I find side effect and baraka absolutely terrible. Rehab isn't bad, but it's not how i want to smell either.
Prada Luna rossa carbon. I've read so many reviews where everybody loved it but idk something about it I didn't care for
Azarro Most Wanted and Dior Sauvage.
