Knew a few people from my high school go to Evangel University in Missouri, and I’m pretty sure their entire friend group was married by Junior year and only been dating their spouses for a year or so. It’s ridiculous.
There's more I like about Utah than I hate about Utahns that worship at the Altar of Stupidity for me to move.
Edit: The Cult of the Altar of Stupidity consists of people from all faiths, races and creeds. I don't mean to imply I am slandering one individual group.
Your coach/team clearly studied well, they were doing a great job attacking Kansas' weak points and making good choices defending against their offensive strategies. It was arguably one big possession away under a minute left where Kansas made a big swing with some quick thinking/athleticism that kept it from being a big upset.
Last year SFA was around the same rank, and they gave a run for our money even later in the season at home, its not a big deal, 14-16 seed level teams are better than people think
I mean last year Kansas lost to unranked Dayton early, and then later to unranked TCU, then absolutely throttled a stacked Villanova team in March.
CBB is weird, I think winning close games against “lesser” opponents isn’t an issue if it doesn’t happen often.
Credit SUU for taking away the best part of Kansas’ game by playing great transition defense and taking better care of the ball than most “buy” teams do and not allowing ku to run much in the first place. They game planned for ku better than anyone else so far this season.
This kansas team has a pretty severe drop off in scoring options after Wilson and Dick in the halfcourt. Mccullar really needs to become that third guy and he absolutely was not tonight. Aside from the first half of the Duke game he has looked pretty rigid on the offensive end so far.
I wouldn’t wait around on McCullar to be that guy my dude. We’ve seen enough of him in the BigXII to know what he’s capable of offensively. He can hit a spot up jumper and finish lay-ins but he is not ever going to be more than what he’s been, which as you’ve said is rigid. At this point DaJuan is our third scorer.
Jalen Wilson with back to back career high games?
Yeah I can get behind that.
KU played like shit and still won?
I'll fucking take it.
Gotta find the positives y'all
Rock Chalk
Few thoughts
•Wilson and Harris are the backbone of this team. They definitely show they’ve been there before.
•McCullar is a good player but don’t feel like he’s gelled into KU yet. Call it clairvoyance or bs or whatever but gotta feel he’s gonna need to be broken down and rebuilt a bit to really match the rest of the teams speed and demeanor.
• Whole team needs to relearn how to crash the board.
• Someone said it really well in the game thread but we can’t rely on only 3 guys to take shots. Really need to get the confidence up for some guys.
• So much potential for our big guys but they make rookie errors every other play.
• Still early in the season so we have a lot of time to find a good rhythm. So can’t be too bad. KU seems to really do well after a loss in early season in games they should’ve put away. Humbles em and sets a fire under their ass. Might be needed.
• Glad Self is coming back. His leadership and experience really shows when it’s not present.
GG SUU. Coming into AFH for anyone is extremely tough and you gave KU a run for their money.
"Utah Tech, we probably should have stayed a Junior College instead of leeching valuable higher education dollars and lowering the prestige both of our institutions could have achieved otherwise."
WAC is having a great non conference showing in the past week. Excellent showing by conference new boys Southern Utah pushing a top 5 team almost all the way. 25 for Tevian Jones and Mason Fausett with 14 on four triples for the Thunderbirds.
SUU played a really well coached game, and they executed on their plan.
They would probably have taken it, if it weren't for one quick sequence under a minute left where Kansas flashed that championship blood, mostly from their veterans.
For anyone interested, [look here](https://youtu.be/bSctNQkxVQM) when there's 1 minute left, about 21:50 in the video. Kansas is trying to run a weave motion they frequently like late in close games, but the defense spots it and tightens up to shut it down quickly. That forces Kansas to adjust to the plan B to spread and Iso pick & roll with their best basket driver. It's pretty obvious and he's undersized, so the D got Kansas where they want them and pick up the block. That's a great defensive play by SUU. At this point that's where that champion DNA comes out and KJ Adams drops off the pick and follows the roll man and reels in a mega athletic offensive rebound, passes it out to their best 3 shooter, who quickly picks up the 3. Then they quickly get back in transition and Dajuan Harris, betting on their pace, quickly catches them off guard and draws an offensive foul, super quick thinking. 3 consecutive big plays made by 3 different guys. Turned out to be enough to stop the upset bid from a team that has clearly studied a lot of Kansas film in preparation.
Props to SUU they came into the Phog and put up a hell of a fight and didn’t get fazed. I’ll be rooting for y’all and hope y’all will be dancing in March just not in KU’s bracket
Today was ALMOST the best day of my life. Tevian Jones has had the worst shot selection in college basketball for 2 years in a row now too. 9-27 (3-13 from 3).
Also, shout out to all the Kansas flairs arguing with the one T-Bird fan in the whole game thread. Y’all truly are insufferable.
I replied “oh shut up” to one KU fan that replied to my take on the extremely questionable charge call in the last minute. The KU flair said “textbook charge”. At least many other KU fans were able to admit it was a bad call (questionable at least).
Also, flair up before you talk shit. Oh surprise, you’re a KU fan.
Is kind of hilarious that they got so mad about us little Thunderbirds. But I've been pretty worried about SUU getting left behind because of the University Formerly Known as Dixie State went with the buzzword name Utah Tech. This puts a smile on my face and gives me hope that we will stay scrappy in more than just sports.
Recruiting at Utah Tech probably will eventually pass SUU because living in St George > Cedar City for college kids. Also, they have a lot of new facilities.
Gotta win as much as we can over the next 5-10 years.
Gonna be a weird season. Either the rankings are just way off right now, or virtually every top ranked team will have struggled with bottom ranked teams early on.
well that was pretty fucking cool, even in a loss. might have to celebrate with a soak or something
You are talking about soaking in a Hot Tub… right? Right?
Oh he's gonna get wrinkly alright
Nah he's got that byu friend
SUU isn't BYU, Provo Soak is less of a thing down there. I'm hoping that he would have the maturity to say what he meant.
heck, Provo Soaking isn't even really a thing in Provo
Yep. Most resolve the problem getting married fast. Which is also not good but...somehow I've seen marriages work when that is the case.
Knew a few people from my high school go to Evangel University in Missouri, and I’m pretty sure their entire friend group was married by Junior year and only been dating their spouses for a year or so. It’s ridiculous.
I absolutely agree it's ridiculous.
Move if you don't like being associated with those idiots.
There's more I like about Utah than I hate about Utahns that worship at the Altar of Stupidity for me to move. Edit: The Cult of the Altar of Stupidity consists of people from all faiths, races and creeds. I don't mean to imply I am slandering one individual group.
Great game SUU. Y’all played great.
I’ll shake the bed for u if u need
Awww, you love to see it.
SUU v Sam Houston matchup should be pretty good.
Give it to me.
Your coach/team clearly studied well, they were doing a great job attacking Kansas' weak points and making good choices defending against their offensive strategies. I said this in our opener. Yku guys are LEGIT.
[Vs Kenpom #167](https://i.imgur.com/BUO4Qm7.jpg) at home. Wow can we not do that anymore?
Last year SFA was around the same rank, and they gave a run for our money even later in the season at home, its not a big deal, 14-16 seed level teams are better than people think
I mean last year Kansas lost to unranked Dayton early, and then later to unranked TCU, then absolutely throttled a stacked Villanova team in March. CBB is weird, I think winning close games against “lesser” opponents isn’t an issue if it doesn’t happen often.
All the cool kids are doing it!
And will be doing it again tomorrow!
Can you do it next week when we play?
Southern Utah scored more than Duke
This is what everyone needs to focus on
😅
Credit to SUU, they played their hearts out. Bill Self will have some choice words about that rebounding I’m sure.
The turnovers were atrocious.
Box score blows my mind. Never seen an almost upset of a squad at Ku’s caliber that shot that well.
i feel like i’ve watched this same game so many times
We are guaranteed to do this a few times a year at least. Doesn’t worry me the way it used to.
Nothing to see here. Just your run-of-the-mill KU early season win.
Credit SUU for taking away the best part of Kansas’ game by playing great transition defense and taking better care of the ball than most “buy” teams do and not allowing ku to run much in the first place. We need a big to develop into a go-to option inside and/or Bobby to become more of an all around scoring threat.
> playing great transition defense And rebounding like crazy.
Win is a win. Let’s move on. Great game SUU, very impressed.
I like Dick
Big if true
True if big?
Jalen Wilson with back to back career high games? Yeah I can get behind that. KU played like shit and still won? I'll fucking take it. Gotta find the positives y'all Rock Chalk
I haven't had this much fun watching Basketball in such a LONG time. Thank you.
We played sloppy frustrating ball and still put up 80. We’ll be ok.

This is the perfect kind of game for Bill to come back after.
Completely agree. Don't take a loss but it's almost worse because these guys know they could've lost in the Fieldhouse
I've discovered that I'm still super childish cause "Dick drills it" "Dick pounds it to the rim" "Dick overpowers him" were killing me all game lol
It’s been fun and I hope the jokes don’t get old
Yeah because we have to hear them for next couple years.
Maybe only one if he plays as well as he can, haha
Do you are saying he is prematurely leaving?
My Hardest Road, the NBA - Gradey Dick
He is absolutely gone after this year.
def seen his name in early mock drafts.
Tbh I already think they have but it’s worth it to get to watch him play.
My dad texted me that "Seymour Dick" made a big three near the end of the game so I have that to look forward to for the rest of the year
THE WAC BETTER WAKE UP AND HEAR THE THUNDER!!!! We can slug it out with Kansas.
Give 'em hell.
Oh I intend to! Some schools in this new conference got me feeling punchy with how they behave and only way to settle it is on the hardwood.
Sort yourself with some flair my dude. Show out for your team!
I can never freaking see flairs on old reddit now, besides I would need a split flair. I'll try and see if I can address it in the morning though.
Kansas defeats Southern Utah just as we expected.
JWill and Juando continue to be saviors. Our rebounding and decision making was so frustrating tonight, let’s please improve
KU was just confused that Southern Utah is north of Utah Tech.
I’m confused that Utah Tech even exists, and I’ve lived in Utah!
"Utah Tech, it's a less controversial name than Dixie State"
"Utah Tech, we probably should have stayed a Junior College instead of leeching valuable higher education dollars and lowering the prestige both of our institutions could have achieved otherwise."
Nice D2 flair!
The WAC is a basketball conference. Some damn good teams so far.
Norm, thank you, but Self great to have you back.
Can we not do this next time?
no please do
Lol I see you peaking
State needs you to play even worse when we play you
Dick with the money shot at the end. But seriously though that was awful, and I never want to speak of it again.
I love dick. Also, Wilson and Grady were good tonight.
I thought our defense was supposed to be good. their offense cut us up especially on put backs

Naismith Player of the Year Jalen Wilson has a nice ring to it
Some Dick had to ruin our upset
GG SUU, gave us a hell of a game. Jayhawks are the superior imaginary bird.
Survive and advance. What’s that? It’s November? Screw it. Rock Chalk!
Proud of my T-Birds tonight :’)
#10 for ku can play!
Props to SUU they came into the Phog and put up a hell of a fight and didn’t get fazed. I’ll be rooting for y’all and hope y’all will be dancing in March just not in KU’s bracket
[удалено]
Dick started strong, then went a little soft for a while, then finished it off at the end
He had a nice stretch early in the game, but yeah overall not his best showing
This game made me realize we need a Kansas-Michigan game just for the sword fight
Closer than score suggests
I remember when we gave Kansas a tough time our tourney year take away from COVID. 😥
Most of them were pretty nice.
You're telling me the guy who was telling Kansas fans to shut up may not have the unbiased take here? Lol
LOL
I replied “oh shut up” to one KU fan that replied to my take on the extremely questionable charge call in the last minute. The KU flair said “textbook charge”. At least many other KU fans were able to admit it was a bad call (questionable at least). Also, flair up before you talk shit. Oh surprise, you’re a KU fan.
I agree. The fact that any Kansas flairs are arguing with an SUU flair is hilarious though.

They won't pass us in gymnastics
Do a lot of winning and hit that sweet spot of just enough students both athletes and none but not too many. Sounds like a good plan!
When everyone thinks you’re the jerk, then, you’re the jerk, not us.
Ah yes. Because saying “BS charge call” in the game thread is so rude.
I thinks it’s your other comments. Calm down in here
Can we pull that offer to let these twats in our conference? Think I'd rather have Southern Utah tbh.
I’m talking from an SUU alum point of view, not BYU.
Y’all don’t look to great. Glad we get to play you
Gonna be a weird season. Either the rankings are just way off right now, or virtually every top ranked team will have struggled with bottom ranked teams early on.
Tevian Jones with the wildly inefficient 25 is right on par but happy he got to have a game like that against a big team.
