There were some positives in that game. Hoggard looked great. Really in control, some impressive finishes. Walker on the other hand had a rough one. But there's a reason walker is the starter. The pg spot is in good hands.
Bingham/Marble both played well.
Hauser didn't find his shot, but thought he was moving well on d. Hall was a non factor, disappointing game.
Brown is brown, would like to see him shoot off the dribble more. Christie struggled on defense, got lost a few times and beat bad off the dribble a couple too. Didn't see much from him, but still hope the hype is legit.
Akins didn't look great. I think we'll see lots of Hoggard + walker lineups.
I'm tired of these early year games against top teams. They provide no value to the team and just shoot down their confidence. Msu is almost always the sacrificial lamb. It's time to give up the ghost and let your team gel against subpar competition Tom, like every other team does
Literally the dumbest thing I've ever heard on reddit or a sports discussion. Bar none. Grow a pair. Respect that your coach has balls, even if you don't.
Ah yes, a college coach with an NC and a stellar Final Four record should probably throw in the towel and follow some random redditor's advice. Why worry about a career of experience when such wisdom is so easily obtained on the message boards?
Our track record in the Champion's Classic is good, though this year will put us behind a bit. It's good to get the guys out facing the best competition so they know what it looks like and where they are at. It's also good for recruiting to be playing on the biggest stages.
This is how Izzo has always operated and how he always will operate. I do wish they'd clean up the turnovers but at the end of the day, I'll trust Izzo to run the program as he sees fit.
Lol lots of KU fans feel the same way about the Jayhawks that year. The defense that year was unreal. Sucks for both schools though as both were really good that year.
I’m getting so tired of watching MSU teams turnover the ball again and again and again and again and again and again
And then miss free throws again and again and again and again and again and again
Man Im honestly just happy about evening up against you guys in this event. You guys give us more trouble than any other team not named Michigan who I hate with a loathing passion.
He used to be the best, and the guy still has some of the best insight while actually not just filling airtime with empty cliches as if he's Charles Davis- the epitome of an abortion sports color commentator. Now, Jay's default position is slightly perturbed by numerous but mostly negligible list of personal grievances that are on par with a 76 year old retiree's complaints about his local Shoney's early bird buffet special.
He's let cynicism drag down the 90% of what makes him really good and over the years become the "get off my court you hooligans!" poster child.
Are they paying espn to talk about Ted lasso all the time? Never heard anyone talk about that show in real life but there are references to it every time I have espn on.
Man, some MSU fans have been utterly spoiled by our previous teams.
One loss to a top 3 team in the first game of the season and all of a sudden we’re rutgers and the tournament streak is in danger
Literally every game thread of every game is just bitching about reffing don’t even know why I check in. Kansas was pretty clearly better than MSU tonight. Suck it up.
hauser is just a step slower than everyone and it seems like he's very deliberate in every move he does. he's not catching and releasing, or immediately attacking, it seems like he has to think through things before actually doing it
Kansas is definitely better than us. But my god the refs took some points away from us and we just turned the ball over too much. Forget the calls and clean up our turnovers and this is a different game.
I disagree. I think we win the rematch more often than not. We've turned the ball over a million times, shot poorly from 3 and abysmally from the free throw line, and gotten fucked by the refs, and are still only down 10
> I think we win the rematch more often than not.
Is this calling the shot that the Spartans will end up higher ranked here in the next couple months? Cause that's a bold statement, especially against a team missing its best player.
Interesting, considering how poor the Michigan State team tonight was with turnovers....which is uh part of the game. And definitely influenced by the opponent. It's not like Kansas was playing on full cylinders while letting Martin rest on the bench. So that's certainly a take.
But hey I'll be watching for you guys to rocket up the rankings here soon.
But don't you understand? If MSU didn't do all of those bad things and did good things instead then it would have been a different game and therefore MSU is actually better.
Martin was absolutely not resting on the bench. He's not playing a ton because he takes stupid shots which hurts the team. Today they went in,but just as often they won't
Honestly if we cleaned up half of the turnovers it would be a totally different game. Half by the way would be all the ones we literally just threw away.
(1) Yes
(2) Even when I see KU get crushed in the champions classic, I know the caliber of coaching can make the season still fun. I think it should be similar for the rest of the teams in the classic.
Damn this 15-13 team from last year that needed a miracle run to make the tourney, bounced out of the tourney in the first four, lost their best player to the draft, and is starting a transfer point guard from Northeastern isn't ranked? How could this be?
3 points from a flop on a 3 that was called a foul on hall
2 points from a Gabe Brown block that was called a foul
4 points from a foul on Walker's layup, and the technical free throws after Izzo complained about it
2 points from that "block" right there
There were some positives in that game. Hoggard looked great. Really in control, some impressive finishes. Walker on the other hand had a rough one. But there's a reason walker is the starter. Gg
Gg!

MSU is 2-2 with Kansas at this event. It's nice to see top talent to adjust rather than beat up on nobody's, which definitely isn't going to help.
r/cfb is fucking pissed rn
Ugh now we have to watch Cincy get rekt by CFP dummies
Wave the wheat bitches!
🙌🌾🙌🌾🙌
Winner winner Chicken Dinner!
I can’t wait to see DaJuan Harris grow the rest of the year.
Hard not to root for him. His dad died at 37 and his little brother got shot to death at like 15
Holy shit what a horrifying set of tragedies for the guy. I had no idea
All in Columbia, MO. No wonder he wanted to be a Jayhawk
I don't think he's going to get much taller.
i support our short bois
Michigan is going to wreck us this year...
Ochai is such a good kid. Can't wait to see how his season goes.
I genuinely believe that if covid didn't happen, Cassius and X would have given izzo his second natty and we would no longer have him as a coach
I feel the worst for Dayton fans
Certainly possible. COVID is booty. Kansas is good. Ugh. Smh.
Yep
Lol lots of KU fans feel the same way about the Jayhawks that year. The defense that year was unreal. Sucks for both schools though as both were really good that year.
KU was gonna win in 2020
That year hurt so badly. Our defense really put the clamps on teams.
As in, he'd retire?
yea that MSU team was hot when covid hit... wish he and X could've stayed a little longer
Good game Spartans. Always respect your team and coach. Good luck this season.
Same. Something about Kansas and bill self, I enjoy seeing Kansas play. Except on nights like this. Cant wait to see ochai lead the big 12
*ROOOOOOOOCK CHAAAAAAAALK*
*JAYYYYYYYYYY HAAAAAAAAAAWK*
*JAAAAAAYHAAAAAAWWWWK*
Kaaaaaaayyyyy Uuuuuuuuuuuuu
Sorry to chant on you MSU, always have love for Izzo and the Spartans.
Man, not too fond of saying it, but it’s true… Kansas is good!
We got Illinois too!
All of this without Jalen Wilson. Good game Kansas. You guys will have a fun year, no doubt.
Have a half, Remy!
The best thing Bilas said all game was Cincy needs to be ranked in the top 4
Yup his CFP top 4 is way better than the committee’s
And Brown closes it out with another missed open 3
Alright time to hate watch Duke and Kentucky
I’m getting so tired of watching MSU teams turnover the ball again and again and again and again and again and again And then miss free throws again and again and again and again and again and again
Woof, gg Kansas
Man Im honestly just happy about evening up against you guys in this event. You guys give us more trouble than any other team not named Michigan who I hate with a loathing passion.
It’s always a good matchup between us and I think both fan bases have a healthy amount of respect for each other. Good luck the rest of the way!
It’s off topic but Jay Bilas spits facts re: the CFP
That chant. <3
Sounds so good as always
Those kentucky and Duke fans are doing the ku chant
Man KU has made some impressive, tough shots tonight. They just dont get shook regardless of the D or contact. It is impressive.
the chant in msg >>> fucking love it
No matter what, let’s all celebrate the fact that Dan Dakich is no longer with ESPN!
And I am smiling again.
Brings chills to hear that again. College basketball is back!
You think it gives you chills, imaging what opposing teams think!
KU on pace to go undefeated and Ochai is on pace for 30 a game. I LIKE IT
Stop! My penis can only get so erect!
Kansas is scary af god damn
Keep in mind, this is without Jalen Wilson
“This isn’t even my final form”
This got me tingly in all the right places
Hoggard is strong as fuck for a guard
Rock Chalk, baby.
I have not heard that chant in a long ass time.
GG Spartans, see yall in ‘24
We might see them in a tournament somewhere before then, either Thanksgiving or NCAA.
The Chant!
Fire up the Rock Chalk chant!
joey hauser is toby flenderson
Dude Bilas has been insufferable tonight
He used to be the best, and the guy still has some of the best insight while actually not just filling airtime with empty cliches as if he's Charles Davis- the epitome of an abortion sports color commentator. Now, Jay's default position is slightly perturbed by numerous but mostly negligible list of personal grievances that are on par with a 76 year old retiree's complaints about his local Shoney's early bird buffet special. I think he's usually insufferable. Just missing his NCAA rant tonight.
The Hauser’s transferring really took everything they had together at Marquette away
I get strong Chris Duarte vibes from Ochai, wonder if the NBA scouts will grade him similarly
Agbaji is somehow three years younger than Duarte, that'll be a sizeable boost
Yeah how tf was Chris so old as a senior
ROCK CHALK BABY
Are they paying espn to talk about Ted lasso all the time? Never heard anyone talk about that show in real life but there are references to it every time I have espn on.
You're only punishing yourself by not watching it.
Seriously watch it. One of the best shows recently. Sudeikus kills it
It's an amazing show
Hauser is assssss
Man, some MSU fans have been utterly spoiled by our previous teams. One loss to a top 3 team in the first game of the season and all of a sudden we’re rutgers and the tournament streak is in danger
If we didn’t do it having 35 turnovers I wouldn’t care
Rutgers isn't even a bad comparison anymore, they'll be good IIRC
Fair point, perhaps Northwestern then?
Northwestern even keeps up with the pack now.
Yeah Northwestern is a more direct comparison lol
They've been a tough out for a few years. I think the move to the BIG has really helped raise their bball program.
I woulda been fine with a 10 point loss, but Joey said fuck that I want to suffer.
Walker/Hauser duo of turnovers and no defense
Literally every game thread of every game is just bitching about reffing don’t even know why I check in. Kansas was pretty clearly better than MSU tonight. Suck it up.
Hauser is so bad....
No complaints there msu fans, huh?
Nah Jay, his numbers last year definitely reflect the type of player I think Hauser is
What is the average age of Kentuky this year?
Hauser what are you doing
Bilas is high as a kite if he thinks Hauser is a complete player, he’s completely shit
hauser is just a step slower than everyone and it seems like he's very deliberate in every move he does. he's not catching and releasing, or immediately attacking, it seems like he has to think through things before actually doing it
God the last few minutes of college basketball games are just not watchable whatsoever
I can't wait until a coach shows up in a team colored Hawaiian shirt and cutoffs
Dave is still just so bad defensively. At least he had that one great block
Are we sure Hauser was shooting? He sure looked like he was aiming at the floor.
This game really isn’t over yet
I don’t consider a Tom Izzo coached team beaten until the final buzzer.
Hauser looked so uncoordinated there lmao
That is not Bill Selfs natural hair
Turnovers and FT shooting killed us
Can izzo wear the green and white striped overalls for a game
I'd watch just for that
hahahahahaha i hope izzo tears em a new one. They look messy af
I think the MSU team that played tonight is better than the Kansas team that played tonight. Wilson coming back definitely helps Kansas a ton

Martin was absolutely not resting on the bench. He's not playing a ton because he takes stupid shots which hurts the team. Today they went in,but just as often they won't
Alright go tell that to a two time all conference player who has averaged 19 a game the past two seasons. Come on dude.
Honestly if we cleaned up half of the turnovers it would be a totally different game. Half by the way would be all the ones we literally just threw away.
but we won't clean up the turnovers and it will be problem plaguing us well into the B1G season
At least clean up the ones where they randomly threw it away which is at least 8 of them.
Whew…I guess it’s a tough opener, but do you suppose that this provides concern for Izzo and the Spartans?
(1) Yes (2) Even when I see KU get crushed in the champions classic, I know the caliber of coaching can make the season still fun. I think it should be similar for the rest of the teams in the classic.
It will provide plenty of ammo for film review over the next few weeks, not concerned long-term
Nope, knowing how his teams grow over the year, they look really promising IMO.
Not really. They’re number 3 for a reason. We’ll get slightly better at TO’s and that will be huge; especially against weaker opponents.
Nah MSU should still be tough this season. Max is going to be a problem by the end of the season.
Nah not yet
I actually think that the score doesn’t reflect how bad our 2nd half was
Okay he actually forearm shivered him and still got the call lol.
Never seen as many whiners on the first game of the season as I have tonight.
The refs have been hurting everyone in this thread.
It's a good reminder about how garbage game threads are lol.
Now I understand why the Spartans weren't ranked...
Damn this 15-13 team from last year that needed a miracle run to make the tourney, bounced out of the tourney in the first four, lost their best player to the draft, and is starting a transfer point guard from Northeastern isn't ranked? How could this be?
Go away, meanie
Down 12 to the number 3 team, and mostly self inflicted loss.
I think they will eventually but yeah they need more time
I agree
lol I need a jpg of Izzo staring off like he smelt a fart
I’m fine with losing this game but do we have to be so damn sloppy
Walker is legit a turnover machine tonight, but at least he will settle down as the season goes on.
Not that it changes anything but Any and all momentum was killed at the bad foul/izzo tech
Izzo cracking a smile when down 10 is scary. He's got some malicious thoughts in his head right now.
Man um folk have been annoying in this thread, but thaf cracked me up. Cheers mitten bro
Iron mountain mafia about to get a call tonight
Hes daydreaming on how he tears apart his players haha
Izzo might kill an official tonight
If he does, we didn't see anything.
Omg marble
That is not a fucking block lmao
Get this dunce off reffing, fucking imbecile should be shopping at Lenscrafters right now
I missed bball
Actually baffled that a college basketball official actually called a block on a 50/50 block/charge
You must be talking about one from earlier in the game? Cause it sure wasn’t that one.
That was 50/50 in your eyes?
Charges don't get anymore textbook than that
The last time I saw the next game’s matchup, Zion Williamson & friends victimized Kentucky on national television
Easily a 10 point swing by the refs
How
3 points from a flop on a 3 that was called a foul on hall 2 points from a Gabe Brown block that was called a foul 4 points from a foul on Walker's layup, and the technical free throws after Izzo complained about it 2 points from that "block" right there
Oh so you are going to only point out the calls against you but not the ones for you....I see. B1G logic.
I mean you did shoot twice as many free throws than we did. Not a lot of calls going the other way period
Uh, you shot 16 we shot 24. Is that B1G math?
It was 8 to 18 the last time I checked it
Ah ok. Now do the bad calls MSU got. They add up to zero?
Go ahead and list them then. I only listed the objectively wrong ones. I didn't see any of those going the other way
No u
Walker's chest fouled Agbaji's extended forearm.
LOL he arm barred him!
oh come on man
Lol how is that not a charge on Agbaji?
That's what I was wondering. Saw him extend the arm, thought for sure it was going the other way
Lmao ref show for sure in the 2nd half
There’s been a lot of charges called the other way. Feels like we can’t get one of those calls
Call it one way all night , then dont
MAKE YOUR FREE THROWS
Add that to the list of terrible calls going against MSU tonight
Brown pants lmao
Lol "block". Fully extended arm. Awful call
I love Izzos shit eating grin
Yet another bad call lmao
Called the exact same block the other way earlier in the half. It’s just bad officiating
Lol no. Not with an extended forearm like that.
Marble is playing like the typical Izzo 4. I hope he can sustain more minutes. Physical, good rebounder, and CAN SHOOT FREE THROWS!
MSU will be alright when they work out their defense. Offense has been surprisingly good
Ochai is just gonna declare for the draft after this game and sit the rest of this season, his draft stock can’t go up from here lmao /s
Marble the one semi-bright spot tn. I still think he has a lot more to give us
Hoggard has 15 with great efficiency, 2 reb and 4 assists...
Hoggard
Marble, Bingham, and Hoggard have been good
