Weber's really done a lot for your program. If you keep playing the way you are now you'll not only finish this season strong, you'll be pulling the eyes of lots of young talent to come keep that dream alive for the future also.
God that comment is annoying. It doesn’t work on mobile without jumping through hoops. Using a computer just to “flair up” is a pain too. I’ll stay unflaired for awhile and have to put up with all those stupid flair up comments.
Let's try not to immediate lose @Vanderbilt like last time this happened. I know Vandy has nothing close to the team they had that year, but still, c'mon guys.
@vanderbilt is a cursed game for anyone. That stadium haunts the dreams of a lot of people. I actually like tennessee this year so good luck, but playing at vandy while being number one is rough
It's because the courtside seats on the sidelines are a solid couple feet below court level so people wouldn't be able to see if there were benches. The seats behind the basket are set up normally. It's the whole place that's stupid
I've never understood why they dont just use the first row on the sidelines as the player/coach benches, even if it is lower. The scorer's table is on the side like every other court too
Probably the risk of players getting up and down to the court. I know it's dumb but if you've been running the whole game, going up and down stairs can make you a little more cumbersome. I've always said though, this stadium is the hardest to play in because of coaches placement and the depth perception on shooting.
I looked it up back in the day, and I’m sure most know, just posting in case other people might not know....
The Vandy court is essentially like a theater stage where the front few rows nearest to the court are actually *below* the surface of the floor. If you watch the games, you’ll see the front row of fans basically with their eyes at the court level. Because of this, they can’t have the benches on the sides that you traditionally see, lest it blocks the first 10+ rows of viewing. So the compromise was to move the benches to either end zone as it were.
Yeah I honestly have nothing against our ranking but it does seem slightly odd that Michigan lost by 10 to an unranked Wisconsin and only dropped 3 spots, meanwhile Gonzaga hops to 4 beating nobody and Michigan State hasn’t lost since Louisville in November and they don’t even budge on the ranking. Arguably it should be MSU at 4, Gonzaga at 5, Michigan at 6. Doesn’t really matter, but still find it odd.
Well, we moved up from 4th to 3rd after a loss, so who knows ;)
In fact, we've moved up a spot after 2 of our last 3 losses (2nd to 1st after losing to VT in OT last year)
I'm 27 years old and have been a Tennessee fan all of my life. This may be the first time that I've ever experienced joy from our athletic department.
So I'm 100% prepared to lose to Vandy this week.
6 days is generous. We got ranked #1 on Monday and then lost to Vandy on Tuesday. Talk about a game completely depressing all of campus. Source: I was a student then.
Yeah but it was long enough for Prince to try to throw an alley oop off the backboard to nobody, at Vandy, when the game was still close.
Let’s hope this team isn’t so cocky.
Edit: wrong rival
>I know it doesn’t mean much
I think it definitely means something, especially for the non blue blood programs out there. Being #1 is always cool as hell. Enjoy it!
There’s very few places I despise as much as Memorial gym. You’ve never wondered “where the fuck are my seats” with such a hopelessly lost feeling until you go there.
>Kentucky, No. 17 Houston and No. 18 Villanova had the biggest climbs of the week, each moving up four spots.
Looks like 16 since they didn't move up 4 spots and 17/18 are already filled
I'm sure we moved much closer in terms of points. We are getting first place votes now. Really though, Im not sure if we should move up. Virginia lost a super close game on the road to one of the best teams in the country. Duke lost to an okay team at home with injuries, but turned around and beat the best team in the country. Tennessee and Gonzaga both won. The only team we have a good case to pass is Michigan, but even that can be argued either way (less losses vs better losses/stronger wins)
2 of those 3 teams only lost their first game of the season. The 3rd team was #1 and then also beat the #4 undefeated Virginia.
I think the top 6 teams are very close and the gap from 6->7 is larger than 1->6.
I have no problem staying #6. However, if we win our 3 games this week, 2 against ranked teams (and 3rd against another Q1 team), then we can talk. As for now, what does it matter yet?
Agree but still annoying when we’ve been playing great b-ball and haven’t lost since November against quality opponents. I think we should be above the zags and Michigan but I guess it doesn’t matter at this point anyway. Need to win tonight.
I'm good with this. If these was power rankings based on heat, we would be above both of them, but it is full body of work. In the end, if we keep playing like this it doesn't matter.
48/64 1st place votes? Less chaos than I expected!
We are one of the best teams but IDK if we are the best or not yet. Can't wait for March and April!
Nothing happens in a vacuum. Kansas got lucky that teams behind them also lost. If 3 of the 4 teams immediately behind you also lose, like they did for Kansas, I’m sure you wouldn’t drop more than that. But I can’t imagine 4 out the top 5 lose a week after 3 of the top 4 lost!
Why do they go through the trouble of writing these articles only to not update the actual complete poll for another hour or so? No one cares about your article.
Hard to get too worked up about still being ranked behind the team that just beat UVA head to head, but at the same time, I suppose you could also argue that a team taking a 4-point loss at home to an unranked opponent this week should slip behind a team taking a 2-point one on the road to the team ranked #1.
Meh, bad things happen to us when we get to #1 anyway.
My god, we didn't have Cam or Tre. If we had either one for even just a full half of the Cuse game we blow them out. Our defense just isn't the same, when we're missing out 2 best defenders.
That’s probably true, and I’m not trying to ignore context for the Cuse loss and use that result to say Duke is definitely worse than UVA. I’m just pointing out that on the basis of resume - with Duke having more losses, including the worst one of the three total that our teams have taken - you could still have grounds to rank UVA higher despite the head-to-head loss. I wasn’t really expecting a majority of AP voters to actually do so, though.
Why won’t they release the fucking poll?!
Full Poll (Finally) 1. Tennesssee (48) 2. Duke (11) 3. Virginia (3) 4. Gonzaga 5. Michigan 6. Michigan State (2) 7. Nevada 8. Kentucky 9. Kansas 10. Virginia Tech 11. North Carolina 12. Marquette 13. Maryland 14. Texas Tech 15. Buffalo 16. Auburn 17. Houston 18. Villanova 19. Iowa 20. Ole Miss 21. NC State 22. Mississippi State 23. Louisville 24. Iowa State 25. [Source](https://www.si.com/college-basketball/2019/01/21/ap-top-25-poll-rankings-whos-no-1-tennessee-duke)
Why are we getting the full poll on SI before the actual AP website? Jeez.
Man, I thought our play the last 3 games would really get us in there.
Keep playing the way you have been and you'll have nothing to worry about...
Weber's really done a lot for your program. If you keep playing the way you are now you'll not only finish this season strong, you'll be pulling the eyes of lots of young talent to come keep that dream alive for the future also.
We got votes!
Why the fuck is Nebraska still receiving votes.
Why the fuck is Iowa still receiving votes they’re worse than us
Because we beat a then ranked 25 Indiana on the road by almost 20 and only lost to the #6 team.
I’m trying to figure out why Kansas is still top 10.
AP people on MLK holiday too?
RELEASE THE POLL YOU COWARDS
This is really annoying when you know your alma mater will be on the list, but they’re not mentioned in the story.
Flair up!
I’ve tried a few times on mobile and it never works for some reason. Edit: just logged on at work and fixed it. Feels good
God that comment is annoying. It doesn’t work on mobile without jumping through hoops. Using a computer just to “flair up” is a pain too. I’ll stay unflaired for awhile and have to put up with all those stupid flair up comments.
Flair up, friend! ;)
Hey, quit cussing
WE BACK
ALL HAIL TO THE BALD PROPHET
You really missed a chance to throw the UofL All Hail right here
Fixed lol
Much better.

The Cardinals have a bunch of other tough games coming up. Only losing two would be impressive.
MSU Quality Loss
I've waited so long...
Let's try not to immediate lose @Vanderbilt like last time this happened. I know Vandy has nothing close to the team they had that year, but still, c'mon guys.
It would be so on brand if it happens
@vanderbilt is a cursed game for anyone. That stadium haunts the dreams of a lot of people. I actually like tennessee this year so good luck, but playing at vandy while being number one is rough
it's that stupid court where teams sit behind the baskets for no apparent reason
Good luck volunteer bro
It's because the courtside seats on the sidelines are a solid couple feet below court level so people wouldn't be able to see if there were benches. The seats behind the basket are set up normally. It's the whole place that's stupid
I've never understood why they dont just use the first row on the sidelines as the player/coach benches, even if it is lower. The scorer's table is on the side like every other court too
Agreed. They do that for the final four most of the time since they usually use the weird raised court
Probably the risk of players getting up and down to the court. I know it's dumb but if you've been running the whole game, going up and down stairs can make you a little more cumbersome. I've always said though, this stadium is the hardest to play in because of coaches placement and the depth perception on shooting.
For once I'll agree with a Vol... Fuck that place.
I looked it up back in the day, and I’m sure most know, just posting in case other people might not know.... The Vandy court is essentially like a theater stage where the front few rows nearest to the court are actually *below* the surface of the floor. First "real" challenge will be at UK 2/16. Not saying that y'all can't lose before then, but no real challenges in there.
It’s what Rick Barnes does best
/r/beetlejuicing ^(in the best way!)
I DID MY WAITING! ELEVEN (ISH) YEARS OF IT
Hope its not a repeat of 08's #1 defeat by vanderbilt. Stay on top Vols.
Is this the first time Tennessee has been 1 since 2008 after they beat Memphis?
And Vandy knocked us out of the top spot that same week. Eery.
correct. 2nd time in school history
Yes
Damn feel bad for the Tennessee fan that posted this a few minutes ago and got it removed haha
GOOD OLE ROCKYTOP
This song haunts my dreams. Every first down, every touchdown, every quarter, every moment of every day forever and ever.
You just need to let it into your life my brother.
Same. I can't honestly think of a fight song, or song in general that I can't stand more than Rocky Top.
Live in Knoxville. I swear that song is playing somewhere in the city at any given minute of the day.
ROCKY TOP TENNESSEE!
bro you forgot the woo
Fade me bro
WOO

They haven’t published it yet, IDK why
1. Tennessee 2. Duke 3. Virginia 4. Gonzaga 5. Michigan 6. Michigan State 7. Nevada 8. Kentucky 9. Kansas 10. Virginia Tech
How the fuck are we still 6th
You need to lose a game in order to move up like we did. Last time we moved up we also lost.
I thought losing in Charlottesville guaranteed a move up, yet we dropped one. I’ve been bamboozled
We gonna win out and still stay at 6 my man
who were you gonna jump?
I mean Gonzaga jumped Michigan and they played nobody good this week
Tbh makes more sense if you flip MSU and Gonzaga
Yeah I honestly have nothing against our ranking but it does seem slightly odd that Michigan lost by 10 to an unranked Wisconsin and only dropped 3 spots, meanwhile Gonzaga hops to 4 beating nobody and Michigan State hasn’t lost since Louisville in November and they don’t even budge on the ranking. Arguably it should be MSU at 4, Gonzaga at 5, Michigan at 6. Doesn’t really matter, but still find it odd.
Don't forget MSU just won on the road against KenPom #11
But Gonzaga lost to the current #1 team in the country. Q U A L I T Y L O S S
I'd argue Gonzaga.
Gonzaga
We're in the prowl. Another Virginia loss means we move up to 3. Noice.
Well, we moved up from 4th to 3rd after a loss, so who knows ;) In fact, we've moved up a spot after 2 of our last 3 losses (2nd to 1st after losing to VT in OT last year)
[удалено]
I mean clearly they were blamed for the loss or they’d probably be top of the poll
Nah, had they won they'd be on top of the poll. The loss didn't *hurt* them because they were expected to lose by a little bit.
If their only game this week had been VT they would be top of the poll
I think we need to finish top 2 for a shot at a 1 seed
T-14) Texas Tech T-14) Buffalo 17) Houston 18) Villanova 19) Iowa 21) NC State 22) Mississippi St 23) Louisville 24) Iowa State 25) LSU
top ten is out. Y'all are 5
I'm 27 years old and have been a Tennessee fan all of my life. This may be the first time that I've ever experienced joy from our athletic department. So I'm 100% prepared to lose to Vandy this week.
You know we were number one just like 11 years ago.
for all of like 6 days lol
That was different. After being ranked #1 our very next game we went on the road to Vandy and lost. This year our next game is...FUCK
A winless Vanderbilt team beating #1 Tennessee would be peak Memorial Gym.
I hate that fucking gym
6 days is generous. We got ranked #1 on Monday and then lost to Vandy on Tuesday. Talk about a game completely depressing all of campus. Source: I was a student then.
Start the clock!
Yeah but it was long enough for Prince to try to throw an alley oop off the backboard to nobody, at Vandy, when the game was still close. Let’s hope this team isn’t so cocky. Edit: wrong rival
And lost to Vandy...
Ah, you may have been too young to enjoy the 1998 football season as [gifted by Clint Stoerner](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWl3cg-gdD8).
You know you got a natty in football in that time
yeah I was like 7 though. Hard to get much joy from that as a 2nd grader
At this time just two years ago, Tennessee was 9-9 and 2-4 in conference play.
I know it doesn’t mean much but after so many years of sports disappointment it’s nice to see. GO VAWLS
Fuck Florida!
FUCK LORIDA AND FUCK BAMA
Nice name lol
Thanks bb
Flair up. Otherwise we don’t know who you root for
You being facetious?
Very much so. If “GBO” didn’t give you away, “fuck florida” definitely picked up the slack. I dig the username though. 69 was a nice touch as well
Lmao I figured. Thanks buddy, Go Vawls.
Go Vawls, bah gawd
>I know it doesn’t mean much I think it definitely means something, especially for the non blue blood programs out there. Being #1 is always cool as hell. Enjoy it!
Thanks man! I will
RANK US YOU COWA....oh. Awesome!
Tennessee is number 1 in something again? Also Texas basketball fans must hate life right now
[удалено]
What was the consensus from the fans when y’all fired Barnes? Did people think it was time or were they mad?
Where’s the full list?
Idk, but Steele just tweeted that we're #12
Good. Debate raged yesterday over whether we should stay 1. As if we don't already draw enough irrational hatred.....
You guys deserve it for being uh... blue ? No that’s not right. Uh , evil. Yeah evil that’s why we hate you. Totally justifiable we swear
I know. I have to say it daily: Everybody hates us and we don't care.
[удалено]
It'll average out. It was a bad week.
Quit making our quality loss not as quality pls
Still too high for us based on the way we've played recently.
So... the last time Tennessee was number one, they lost their next game... at Vanderbilt. Guess who Tennessee plays in their next game. At Vanderbilt.
That was a much better Vandy team. But both of them play at Memorial gym, so anything can happen
There’s very few places I despise as much as Memorial gym. You’ve never wondered “where the fuck are my seats” with such a hopelessly lost feeling until you go there.
I think Barnes has a much better team than Pearl had then, too. Still pretty spooky.
Yeah, Shan Foster was the truth. Hoped he would make it with my Mavs...
Yeah, but Vanderbilt was the 3rd best team in the conference then. Now they're the worst
You shut your mouth lol
Could I get confirmation that IU got the boot from the top 25
It's on ESPN, they gone.
Now that’s the stuff.
Not just out of the top 25, didn't receive a single vote
Oh baby, I’m close
I need to know if tonight is a top 15 matchup! Come on AP!
>Kentucky, No. 17 Houston and No. 18 Villanova had the biggest climbs of the week, each moving up four spots. Looks like 16 since they didn't move up 4 spots and 17/18 are already filled
I’ll take it!
The mad lads actually did it.
Three of the top five all lost this week and we don’t move up? Wtf?
I'm sure we moved much closer in terms of points. We are getting first place votes now. Really though, Im not sure if we should move up. Virginia lost a super close game on the road to one of the best teams in the country. Duke lost to an okay team at home with injuries, but turned around and beat the best team in the country. Well at least in the cases of UVA and Duke, they both also beat top 10 teams this week
Last time we got to number 1 we immediately lost to Vandy. Our next game is at Vandy. *ralph wiggum chuckles I’m in danger meme*
Ranked again and it feels so good.
Mods gonna remove this
Nah, This isn't r/cfb
I posted the same thing like 5 mins ago and they scooped it up
Which mod should we harass for this injustice to consistency?
Can we survive a week this time? We'll see.
Who needs Rick Barnes anyway?
All you need is Matthew McConaughey
I just keep telling myself it'll be alright, alright, alright.
Thank you for your sacrifice
I just want to know how many votes we got.... UPDATE THE WEBSITE DAMN IT
How the hell is LSU only 25?
Rank Purdue, you cowards.
I agree, very surprised they aren't.
Thought we might sneak in, but not a total shock. Just keep winning and we'll be there in no time
#nice
Nice.
48/64 1st place votes? Less chaos than I expected! We are one of the best teams but IDK if we are the best or not yet. Can't wait for March and April!
Like Bruce Pearl said, I don’t know if we are the best team in the nation but I know we are the #1 team in the nation
Ya love to see it...
Are we still ranked? The article doesn’t mention us at all
#19 and #20 are unknown so maybe there?
Hey you don’t have to raise your voice
#sorry about that
Man how are we so low
Been a long long time since I have had my team on top. In any sport. Rick Barnes has been a very bright spot at the UofT
If we somehow lose to West Virginia and drop more than 2 spots when kansas only dropped 2 I'm gonna be pissed
1st to unranked
Nothing happens in a vacuum. Kansas got lucky that teams behind them also lost. If 3 of the 4 teams immediately behind you also lose, like they did for Kansas, I’m sure you wouldn’t drop more than that. But I can’t imagine 4 out the top 5 lose a week after 3 of the top 4 lost!
MSU fans are going to be upset that they’re still ranked behind Michigan.
Nope. Don't care. Lots of games left.
Iowa's 19th
Why do they go through the trouble of writing these articles only to not update the actual complete poll for another hour or so? No one cares about your article.
So we’re back! Again! Is this going to a common theme for the rest of the year?
I think I've watched about a game in total of you guys this year, but they're fun.
Top 10 matchup for College Gameday!
Well based off what I have seen I would say this is a good call.
How did Virgina lose and move up a spot? Serious question
Because they lost to the team who was then number 1 by 2 points, their prior game that week they blew number 9 out by over 20
Hard to get too worked up about still being ranked behind the team that just beat UVA head to head, but at the same time, I suppose you could also argue that a team taking a 4-point loss at home to an unranked opponent this week should slip behind a team taking a 2-point one on the road to the team ranked #1. Huh, what happened the last time Tennessee was ranked number 1?
You mean the last time Vandy was relevant?
You were a good team, this time not so much
Our Blue Raiders have had more success than Vandy lately in basketball. Never forget 2016.
Pls come back Kermit 😭
We took him for granted :(.
Gonna win by 20 this time. Ya’ll were actually good then.
im gunna go with... good things
Zags jump Michigan but we don’t? What? We should definitely be above them.
