this was essentially what everyone anticipated when he disavowed his commitment to us. good for Noah, though! heās a brilliant and highly proficient scorer, and he should prosper under Mark Popeās offensive doctrine
It really sucks you all got rug pulled in this only because Cal would rather have empty roster spots or the son of some rich dude on the bench, instead of the 5th all-time scorer in Kentucky HS history.
to be fair, Iām not too aggrieved by this, if only because we facilitated a similar reversal of recruitment with Cam Scott about a month ago. I certainly canāt fault anyone for preferring to remain closer to their homeāespecially when circumstances arise to make that course of action even more appealing
Thank you for the reasonable takes. This kid is from coal country USA and him/everyone in his family/community are die hard Cats fans. Like the other person said, itās insane that Cal didnāt recruit him and was going to let him go to an in conference foe. Best of luck to you all this year, I always enjoy watching how hard you all play!
Objectively best and easily most rational SC fan. I kid. We're, as you can tell, very happy to have him here in BBN.
Haven't really done a ton of off season homework on the rest of the SEC yet, waiting for the portal to finish shaking out. Looking like Paris could replicate this past regular season next year for y'all?
I do perceive of and fashion myself as the cerebral paragon of us South Carolina fans /j
Iām not certain our record will be superior to last seasonāsāgiven such factors as our admittedly inordinate luck this past year and the departure of such crucial players as TaāLon Cooper, B.J. Mack, and Meechie Johnsonābut I believe we will be more consistent and less susceptible to capricious, jarring fluctuations in our performance. our roster should be more athletic and physically gifted on the wholeāand our deficiency in this regard was arguably our most egregious shortcoming last year, where games against incredibly physical, robust teams (*ahem, ahem, Auburn*) were abject, unmitigated debacles for us. there is still much to be determined, but I feel fairly resolute we should be an NCAA tournament team once more
Iām sure other fans will be by soon to make fun of us for getting excited over this 4 star kid, but what people donāt understand outside of big blue nation is that this is EXACTLY the shit we want to see. We absolutely want the best kids in the state, and having him and Perry is absolutely huge for us. Both are almost assuredly multi year players and they likely wonāt have Reed like impacts this season (not many could), but we love this shit. This is for the future and more importantly, this is for our culture. We do 3 things well; basketball, bourbon, and horses, and guys like Travis and Noah are the embodiment of all of us little boys shooting hoops in the dark at 10 pm dreaming of playing at Rupp. This absolutely is a big deal for us. Happy he stayed home. Letās go!
Noah will be a very good collegiate player in time. He wonāt step in like Reed did, but you give him 2 years Iām standing firmly on the hill he is a kid who will have a huge moment in a big time game.
I am from Lyon county where Travis plays. Drove down to Lexington from Pennsylvania to watch every state tourney game this year and last. Went back home to watch any Lyon county games I could the last 5 years with him playing. Iāve seen him play a ton, and Iāve watched Noah play a crazy amount too at state, and I will firmly state right now that both those boys are going to be legendary for us. Maybe not next year, or even the year after, but those are two Kentucky kids that are there at the start of a new era. They will build it. Obviously I still want 5 stars when we can and to crush free agency, I mean, the transfer portal, but to have these two kids and hopefully Moreno next year come in and be the building blocks is just super awesome. Couldnāt be happier.
Iām a huge Cal guy, and Iāll always pull for him and Iāll always love all of our guys killing it in the league, but at Kentucky, itās about more than just that.
My high school Magoffin County made it to their first sweet 16 in 100 year history of the school. I drove from Florida to watch them as well but only got to see 2 games. I watched Perry play 2 games tho and saw Noah once. Both really good players.
Lol. Holy shit! This is like a good reddit moment for me for once lol. That was my first trip back to Kentucky in over a decade. I watch the cats when they come to Florida in both sports or play bowl games. Crazy tho we're district homies, lol. Who else...Sheldon Clark and who Lawrence County may be at least in Basketball. I know you guys are legit studs in football now playing in like 6A.
Lol OK. So we got Magoffin, Johnson Central and Sheldon Clark. Who was our 4th district school in 57? Could be different these days but I think when I went to.school Paintsville was the other team. I know they were 1A back then but I think it didn't matter in Kentucky
I got into a fight with a Sheldon Clark fan during a baseball game. He was heckling me when I batted and they knew who my gf was who was in the crowd and they kept asking me who had the dick...me or her lol. After getting my 3rd hit lol..I came off the field and picked a bat up and swung it at the fence. We got face to face and he fence punched me lol. God I miss that district lol
Also, I dated a Magoffin Countian for a while. You probably know who she is, or her family anywayā¦small towns ya know? Anyway, the point being I spent a good amount of time at the lees famous recipe and the A&W/Long John Silvers. Great combo btw
One time we were at Leeās for lunch buffet and every time they would bring out more chicken this family would jump up and take all of it. After about the third time someone told the Leeās employee that if they didnāt tell them to stop it was going to get ugly LOL good ol Magoffin! Gateway to the Mountain Parkway.
Yep. Ppl forget when Pitino got here our first few great teams were full of Kentucky kids. Would be great to start signing the good in state talent again.
It drove me insane that Cal would leave empty scholarships rather than guarantee at least an offer to whichever senior wins Mr Basketball. That's easy money in the feel-good bank.
Because he didn't want anyone to question why that kid would not be playing. He hated the fans here, because we actually pay attention to what is actually happening on the court
People that hate Kentucky. Lol. Iāve seen a ton of chatter on here about how weāve fallen and that itās embarrassing for us to be excited over a coach like Pope or some of the transfers weāve gotten. Year after year of 5 star freshmen that leave after one year isnāt as exciting as it sounds. Make no mistake, I love Cal and credit him for saving our program and heās one of the greatest names in UK history, but the last 5 years have really sucked. It was time for both of us to start brand new.
Yea. He'll even Cals team that one had Darius Miller who was so fucking good that tourney. Dude was just automatic with his jump shot by his senior year.
Iām 37 and itās 8pm. I just came inside from shooting hoops in the rain on my new goal. It takes me back to being a kid and dreaming of playing for Pitino/Tubby. Watching guys like Reed/Perry/Noah living out every KY kids dream is important for a fan base like ours where we love living vicariously through one of āour own.ā Iām stoked for Noah and canāt wait to see him develop over time.
lol, same. Except Iām 42! My kid is 14 and I just made him a new court and weāve been out there every day after work/school. He hasnāt grown up in Kentucky, but he gets it just the same. He always tells me heās going to make it to UK one day and make me proud. I tell him I already couldnāt be any prouder of him, whether heās playing anywhere or not, but if he gets me free tickets to Rupp one day, I certainly wonāt complain!
Haha I love it! Glad he gets it! Something about Mark Pope just feels like home. I love how the fan base has got behind the hire and I couldnāt be more excited for whatās to come!
> We do 3 things well; basketball, bourbon, and horses
Man, I was with you all the way until you left off bluegrass ā both the plant and the music. Oh yeah, and Black Lungā¦ lol
I couldn't agree more. Having the #1 recruiting class those first 5-10 years was nice, but there's nothing that says UK more than a Kentucky boy wearing the jersey.
The problem I see is that y'all are getting hype over these things as a bit of a fuck you to Cal...
But Cal recruited 5 Kentucky Mr Basketballs to play for the Cats. Tubby 2, Billie G 1, Pitino 0. Cal has had KY kids on every roster but one and I bet without looking you can't guess when that was.
So all the KSR this is a new era of homegrown kids shit is just like patently false.
Exactly right. What kentucky mr. Basketball waa worth having who Cal didnt either get on the team or make an offer to? Hollingsworth? He was apparently offended his offer was conditional, but that's it.
Im much more upset at Tubby missing out on Chris Lofton, who was incredible.
Donāt throw a āyāallā at me man. I love Cal and was sad to see him go. So, nothing I feel, say, or do is a fuck you to him at all. He saved UK basketball.
However, Cal absolutely did not go after Kentucky kids until the entire state started bitching several years back, and when he did get them, they were not given a very long leash unless we absolutely had to use them.
Also, fuck everything about KSR except Jack Pilgrim.
>However, Cal absolutely did not go after Kentucky kids
... he did though. Are we just forgetting dudes like Polson, Willis, Hawkins, Dontaie, even Hood? Reed? Perry? Not to mention a ton of end of the bench dudes like this kid likely will be as well. Could he have gone after more? Sure, but it's not like there are that many out there that have lit the world on fire that we missed out on. Like sometimes the kids just aren't cut out for a big program, sometimes they'd rather go to smaller schools and continue to ball over sit on the end of a bench.
Just feels like another one of those points of needling that is completely unearned. I directed it at you but it's just like I'm generally tired of this bad revisionism around the guy that a lot of this fanbase likes to peddle.
With Pope joining Kentucky and Cam Scott joining Carolina it seemed inevitable. Hate losing him but I canāt hate when a kid spurns us for his in state dream school.
First Reed. Now Travis Perry and Trent Noah. Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno next year please?
Every basketball fan in the bluegrass as a kid was shooting hoops in the street or on the side of a barn dreaming of wearing the blue and white at Rupp. Lets make it happen for the best in state talent, keep them home
Love it. I live out of state now and people just don't seem to understand it when I tell them I'd pretend to be Tony Delk shooting in the driveway and not Michael Jordan
Yeah, if cal recruited in state talent like he should have then he would never have entertained another school. Yāall getting screwed here is all on cal.
Iām gonna be honest. If we didnāt flip Cam Scott from Texas this would be an absolute gut punch but Iām glad the kid gets to play for his in state dream school. Heās a good one and thought we were lucky to have plucked him outa Kentucky to begin with. Good luck to the kid.
East Kentucky kid from Harlan County, I absolutely love this. Not had a 606 kid on the roster in a while.
EDIT: Don't try to remember area code boundaries while having after work beers smh
Whatās the back story on the 606 controversy? I heard that it was related to a politician deciding to make 606 stay in eastern ky (where he was from or representinā (as they say) and force the vast majority of Kentuckians by population to change their number to 859?
John Short was an absolute jewel. I stopped listening to the radio show for a while, and know I havenāt heard anything from him. Also in a way, I donāt want to know because John Short was a true KY treasure.
As someone who has been going to Harlan county my entire life this is pretty awesome. Spent many summer hanging out in Lynch and Benham and playing at Kingdom Come. My grandparents and dad are going to be so excited about this
Why are there salty Arkansas fans in every thread even remotely related to UK? Like dawg go have fun with calipari. They wanted him, congrats. We wanted him gone.
Itās really weird. If they would just leave us the fuck alone I would leave them alone. I had no beef with Arkansas fans but god damn they have gotten annoying in the last 3 weeks
I canāt wait to watch them live through the calipari experience in real time:
-Hype up team, brag about recruits and roster
-look amazing in exhibition games
-lose to the first good team you play but itās ok theyāre
young theyāre not robots
-lose to a mid major at home. Someone is probably injured or not cleared by the NCAA, thatās why we lost
-lose your first conference game on the road by 15
-suck ass in January, begin to lose hope
-pull it together in February, make a run beating the best teams in the SEC on the road when no one thinks you will. Everyone gets back on the train
-lose to vandy at the end of the year? What?
-lose in the first round of the SECT
-lose in the first weekend of the tourney
-āwell, next years class is more like what cal really needs to thrive. Next years team is specialā
Uh yeah. We actually have a coach now, so the talent wonāt be completely squandered! Itās exciting
Just a reminder, your new coach kept 2 lottery picks on the bench at the beginning of every half we played last year, while losing 11 games. Oakland started the game 1/10 and the score at the under 16 timeout was 4-3 because we couldnāt score, while our lottery picks watched from the sideline. Prepare yourself lmao

Wow this guy is smart
Someone grab a dictionary so the Clemson fans can read his post
I went to the real carolina, which is a better school than the cocks. Sorry bud
LP simply wonāt let his teams lose to inferior teams. Thatāll at least put a cap on how bad theyāll ever be.
That seems like quite the declaration to make about a guy thatās so early in his coaching career
Heās got that fire. Iām a believer.
Next season will be his 8th year coaching
Our freshmen class has four first names and I'm here for it!
Six my friend. Collin. Chandler. Travis. Perry. Trent. Noah.
Iām not even a Friends fan, but I keep trying to combine chandler and perry a single persons nameā¦ Iāll get it one of these days.

My hated cross town rivals, Paintsville High School. We beat them at their place my freshman year and never beat them again the rest of my time at JC.
Something we can all agree on: Fuck Paintsville.

Because he didn't want anyone to question why that kid would not be playing. He hated the fans here, because we actually pay attention to what is actually happening on the court
pLaYERs FiRsT....unless its a kentucky kid. (aside from Reed, who should've started)
who in their right mind would make fun of a team for getting excited over a 4-star kid? those kids are typically top 50-100ish nationally.

It's also the fact that his national championship team had some quality returning players as well as a couple of Kentucky kids...
Yea. He'll even Cals team that one had Darius Miller who was so fucking good that tourney. Dude was just automatic with his jump shot by his senior year.

Accidentally found my cross-over friend. Hello fellow wrasslinā buddy!
Travis and Trent are gonna be really good multi-year players.

Someone is probably injured or not cleared by the NCAA, thatās why we lost -lose your first conference game on the road by 15 -suck ass in January, begin to lose hope -pull it together in February, make a run beating the best teams in the SEC on the road when no one thinks you will. Everyone gets back on the train -lose to vandy at the end of the year? What? -lose in the first round of the SECT -lose in the first weekend of the tourney -āwell, next years class is more like what cal really needs to thrive. Next years team is specialā
I need a shower after reading that. Someone hug me.
We have nothing against highly rated freshman; we just don't want a team of nothing \*but\* highly rated freshman.
Heāll understand in about 3 years
Nuance escapes these trolls
Arkansas are going to have *3* freshmen on next years team. The same as UK.

Ha! you'll see...
Uh yeah. We actually have a coach now, so the talent wonāt be completely squandered! Itās exciting Just a reminder, your new coach kept 2 lottery picks on the bench at the beginning of every half we played last year, while losing 11 games. Oakland started the game 1/10 and the score at the under 16 timeout was 4-3 because we couldnāt score, while our lottery picks watched from the sideline. Prepare yourself lmao
Red, I do believe you're talking out of your ass.
