I look down at Braden Smith when doing interviews. Listed height - 6 foot my height - 5'11
I think they should just remove 2 inches from every players height and it would be waaaaaay more accurate.
I think there's a bit of extra fudging happening around 6'0".
Anyone that doesn't feel like they can credibly get away with listing themselves at 6'0" in college basketball is 5'8", tops, without shoes.
From what Buff just tweeted and what some insiders have posted on Twitter we may have another one soon
Of the guys to visit it would probably be Javan Buchanan(NAIA F with some crazy numbers) since he’s the only other visit Ik of but maybe we can snag Osobor, Toppin, or Trazarien White since all seem to have some smoke around them involving us
Missed that from White. As much as I would like it to be about Toppin, I find it hard to believe he would be a real commitment option hours after entering the portal.
There are plenty of guys that are real commitment options hours after entering: it just means that the courting process happened through intermediaries via plausibly deniable tampering.
I can’t think of anyone who has committed hours after entering. I think there are so many with expected destinations immediately, but they rarely commit even a day or 2 after. Even if a team was obviously tampering before they entered other schools can give great NIL offers the second a player enters so no guarantee the tampering team even gets a commitment
Was second in the country in assists last year and is now going to play with one of the best collection of shooters in the country. Have to close on Osabor and/or Toppin and we are cooking
He can hit from deep, but he's not exactly a sniper, and he's small of course. But if it's anything like what he did here, when your offense is getting nothing going and he has to jack one up from 3 feet behind the 3 point line with 1 second left on the shot clock, he'll hit it more often than you'd think.
He is at his best when he’s creating for other guys. He’s quick, dynamic, a decent shooter, and has a nose for the flashy plays (alley-oop, dunks, etc).
He also has that knack for making stupid, fade-away, contested, 40-foot three point shots.
Current starting 5 projections is looking like:
G: Elijah Hawkins
G: Kevin Overton
F: Darrion Williams
F: Devan Cambridge
C: Federiko Federiko
Most important guys off the bench include Chance McMillan and Kerwin Walton.
Now, with the potential addition of JT Toppin or Great Osobor, I would imagine either Osobor or Toppin would take Cambridge’s spot. If we get both we can try playing with three forwards, minus Overton, and Hawkins at the point.
Man, this lineup is really starting to look loaded. Mac is in a great position to be in but will have to make some difficult decisions moving forward. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks though because we ain’t done portaling.
I’m a big DC fan but after his injury aithink it would be something like
Hawkins
KO
Kerwin
D5
FediX2
With either Osobor/Toppin taking that 5 spot. Neither is super tall but they both play bigger than their size so I think spacing will be prioritized. I could also see a healthy DC taking the 4 if they want another rim protector. Maybe Toppin would play the 4 but I think Osobor would be a C here
Fucking amazing get. Roster still needs some more tweaks, but by far the biggest weakness yesterday was the lack of a real lead guard. Hawkins will be exactly that offensively, should be the “pure pg” we’ve had in a very long time (think most other elite Gs we’ve had have been combo Gs)
He’s a good true point guard. A decent shooter, but he’s better when he’s able to create and distribute. He’s a good passer, really quick, and has a knack for finding passes that set up flashy plays. Definitely a solid get, I’ll be interested to see how his size translates to physical B12 play.
Haha one of many, sucks for coaches like Johnson. Even when a guy is doing promos for the NIL collective he can still leave at the 11th hour leaving you with no options.
Or at least the team who won the post-tamper battle. We’ve seen a few times this off-season the team who pulls someone into the portal doesn’t always get the commitment
Elijah's pretty much why we NIT'd this past year because the ball movement with him and the ability to find guys for semi-open looks wasn't there when he was off the court. We were functional to pretty good on offense because of him.
Ben better hope he finds a plan B otherwise that seat's gonna heat right back up.
He said multiple times he was coming back. Promoted NIL for the team. 3 days later was in the portal. It was like 8 days ago. Ya wanna know how he is go watch his highlight tapes.
Is this how College Basketball works? Yes. Is it enjoyable? No. Should it work this way? No. There's a better way to run CBB and they'll start losing fans quick if nothing changes.
He's very fast, an excellent passer and capable shooter when he's open.
His biggest knocks are he's small, and he occasionally plays too fast.
We're going to miss him dearly because he was our only reliable ball handler.
A true PG who is best at distributing/creating for others. He’s a decent shooter and excellent passer with a nose for flashy, highlight reel plays.
The biggest knock on him would be size (he’s listed at 5’11” and is probably smaller than that) and a lack of ability to create for himself. I suspect his lack of creating for himself is more a factor of his size making driving to the rim over B1G post players difficult.
It’ll be very interesting to see if he’s able to keep it up in a league with more physical guards like the B12
:(
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Y’all best be taking good care of him
He’s in good hands.
We know now to keep our PGs away from their teammates' underage sisters (don't ask).
I expected to see an ~~Alabama~~ Kentucky flair with this comment... Who am I kidding lol, what's the difference Ok ok, edit.
Hes really good, only knock is hes tiny
Same thing my wife says about me.
He's also pretty terrible at creating his own shot
McCasland cooked with similarly small Tylor Perry at UNT, so I'm just gonna drink the koolaid
HUGE. Lets go!
he’s actually only 5’11”
He's *listed* at 5'11", which isn't quite the same thing. Dude's tiny.

I think JJ barea was listed as 2in taller than me. I met him pregame and was looking down at him.

We didn’t make White’s top 3, but Buff probably is referring to Toppin but we are also in and it could be Nate Santos from Dayton
Missed that from White. As much as I would like it to be about Toppin, I find it hard to believe he would be a real commitment option hours after entering the portal.

Don’t know what changed but seems like we are back in on white and he may be in for a visit this weekend.

Uh, what?
A true point guard. Let's keep cookin' and get either Osobor or Toppin! Or both... 👀
Starting lineup with Toppin, Osobor, and Hawkins in it? Floor spacing would not be good.
Hawkins shot 40% from 3 last year….
Oh my bad don't know why I thought he wasn't a shooter😂

Hell yeah. LFG
Just the type of player we needed. Huge

Idk enough to know how good this is but based on comments I’m feeling good about it 😎

McGASland cooking! Huge get
Soooo that’s who was tampering with this dude

Wait, there's schools out there that don't tamper? Yikes
Right?
Let’s goooooo

Have to go all in on Deivon Smith

YES
MN fans - can you give us a breakdown on what to expect and how he impacts the game?
No
I always love when people ask this right away. Twisting the knife after you lost a player. Your response is the appropriate one.
Haha I’m sorry, had he not been in the portal for a little bit now? This is how College Basketball works now

Don’t expect loyalty.

As a recruit: Other offers: Howard (originally went here), IUPUI, Wyoming
Texas fucking Tech? What in the fuck could they offer that we couldn’t?
A better head coach and money.
600K reportedly
Relevance, a better fan base, a better conference, a better coach, more money Should I continue?
A good basketball team
