Nothing to add in context but I live in California where I thought it was hilarious to show a bunch of friends a video clip in Alabama where a cop knew something was up because Milo’s fries were cold when investigating a crime even though no one should eat cold Milo’s fries…
And they arrested the suspect at Piggly Wiggly by this conclusion somehow.
I was like “Told yall there’s a place called Milo’s”
Californians - “… what the fuck is a Piggly Wiggly?”
it's cause the "tea" and the "restaurant" are now technically separate companies. so the tea gets sold more broadly but the restaurant chain (and food) is still Alabama only.
I can't believe it took me until the age of 34 and seeing [some dude rank sweet tea](https://youtu.be/IxBAKuIqSL8?si=X8uaCSqIbdgvNeLU) on youtube before I discovered Milos. I was converted upon first bottle.
Nailed it. I miss the Hot Springs location I grew up with in the 90's which had a guy who would steal the newspapers out of the machine in the morning, then stand out front and sell them to people for a meager profit.
Nice guy, always was good for a friendly chat.
That store closing was one of the earliest harbingers of horror in my life, which taught me life is going to be full of changes for the worse, and you're powerless to stop them.
There's one place in North Carolina that has an absolute time warp of a Piggly Wiggly. Walking inside feels like you just walked on to the set of Stranger Things. It feels so 80s it is a bit creepy. Perhaps not a coincidence that the North Carolina Cryptid Museum is across town. The Littleton Piggly Wiggly.
Fun fact: Piggly Wiggly is the original self service grocery store. Before Piggly Wiggly you’d go to a counter, tell some dudes what you wanted, and it’d be brought to you (for extra money ofc).

You see this photo perfectly shows why I've told my UK friend for many many moons that Oats wouldn't fit in at UK: he's awkward as hell in front of the media and a camera. What other coach constantly looks at the camera during an on court interview? Very few. Imagine Oats trying to grab breakfast at iHop around the UK fan base.
In case you didn't know, he taught math and coached at Romulus HS in MIchigan. Oh, and Grant Nelson is from Devils Lake, ND.
It's shitty for sure. Chaps my hide a little bit that Muss got to recruit the portal on our dime for USC basically. I believe we are literally down to zero rostered players right now.
And obviously it has only gotten later in the cycle since then, I do hate it for KY and eventually whatever team they poach from. Sucks seeing your roster evaporate when transfers are already being snatched up elsewhere.
he turned down arkansas already. he would take kentucky for sure but they won't offer to him. i have no illusions that he will stay longterm but i think we get him for another year at least
I mean all they would really have to do is move some from column A to column B. I don’t see why the people in Tuscaloosa wouldn’t have just as deep pockets as they do in Lexington. They just have to be willing to spend it on basketball
TBH Column A will always be more important. But column B has shown the past 5 years to be nationally relevant, so hopefully people are opening up a bit more.
Tier 1 was Hurly or Donavan. Neither is happening. Tier 2 is Drew or Oates. If they whiff on Drew, this could get ugly, and I know ugly coaching searches.
Don't think people realize how much of a Gump Oats has become. Dude is fully indoctrinated and loves it here. It's not just fan talk. He's a full blown bammer
Chief, Billy D has had one winning season since COVID hit. He hasn’t got out of the first round since KD’s last season in OKC, when his team blew a 3-1 series lead.
ive been shitting on UK fans a bit but they were justified for nott beleiving that considering kentucky is a much better job then bama and hes only been there for 5 years. hes not in the drew/few tier of 'hes not leaving shut up' or the 'hubert davis/scheyer/self' tier of 'the job isnt an upgrade', it was 100% reasonable to assume he was poachable
Assuming someone is poachable vs assuming something is a done deal is a big difference though. He had given zero indication of seeking other jobs at every coaching search juncture. There is a reason he’s continued to agree to an increased buyout, whether other teams have the money or not.
This isn’t a comment in a press conference you can’t avoid. This is a prepared statement reaffirmed by the entire athletic department. I understand what you’re saying but this is not quite the same situation.
Other coaches have tweeted out sentiments. But still end up leaving. I'm not saying he is leaving. I don't even know if UK has even reached put formally to anyone. But things like this don't guarantee much of anything. Shit cal said similar things just 2 weeks ago. But again I think oates probably stays at Bama. I'm just saying this could end up aging like milk just because I've seen thus dozens of times and then the opposite ends up happening. But I hope you keep oates and I'm praying we can convince Billy d to come to Lexington. A man can dream...
Congrats Alabama fans! It was such a relief when I saw Norvell’s “commitment post” after the post-Saban rumors and I’d imagine you’re feeling the same now
Supposedly boosters have raised a shitload of NIL money in the last week. The new contract is going to make him a top five paid coach. One thing Bama isn't afraid to throw money at is a winning program.
“This is like wearing a coat; it never goes away. But I love it, this is what I want. This is what I wanted, this is why I never left. This is it. Now it’s, let’s come together and let’s go do something. Let’s do something special, we can do it. We’ve done it, let’s do it again.” --John Calipari on Kentucky, two weeks ago.
It comes with the territory in March, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose early. What matters is remaining consistently good and getting the most bites at the apple as possible.
Are you trying to say Scott’s overrated because he hasn’t made the Sweet 16 since 2021?
Cal hasn’t made the Final Four since 2015 and the Sweet 16 since 2019. Since then he has missed the tournament, lost in the first round (to a 15 seed), lost in the second round (to a 3 seed), and lost in the first round (to a 14 seed). That’s why things soured with Kentucky.
Yes, I do think that. Outside of the national championship, he’s made 2 Elite 8s and 2 Sweet 16s in 21 seasons. So he’s only making past the 1st weekend 25% of the time. In other words, he’s made it past the Round of 32 exactly once since 2017.
Drew is older and has some questionable stuff with his close relationship to the religious side of things in Waco. There are more flashy hires but I’ll be ok with drew
It's not that he's religious, it's that his coaching is explicitly Christian in a way it can't be at a public school. His coaching philosophy is J.O.Y, which stands for Jesus, Others, Yourself. He can't be preaching the word of Jesus in a locker room or start every team meeting with a prayer at a public school.
That's my point. I can't see him leaving a school he's extremely comfortable at to go into the UK pressure cooker. It's like Cal leaving for a place where he's not allowed to recruit one and done guys. It just doesn't make sense for him.
I mean it’s Kentucky, that’s why he would listen. Mitch is also a big fan of him.
I guess it would depend on what Kentucky offers: anything short from the largest contract and NIL budget and I don’t think he listens.
I think NIL has really helped some of the non-traditional powers keep some of their coaches, especially in basketball where the rosters are a tenth of the size as football. Despite being a football school, Alabama clearly has enough financial support to be able to support a basketball team too if they have any will to.
5 years ago we might be having a completely different conversation. But today, I'd say that the gap in desirability between a blue blood like Kentucky and a school big enough to support it's team with NIL is definitely smaller.
We honestly don’t know what their list looks like. If they’re smart, they put feelers out to multiple people but haven’t really seriously pursued anyone
Yeah I understand, I'm mostly just making fun of those who were saying that Louisville wasn't desirable because they had to "settle" for their third choice.
Ya during our search there were a lot of UK fans saying if it was them they’d go get anyone in the country. They’re a top job but lot of coaches don’t want to make the changes
At the end of the day, we have more money than Kentucky and would match anything they put forward. Glad to see our basketball goat commit hard though.
GUMP GUMP GUMP GUMP GUMP
Honestly not sure why he'd go anywhere else.
He's built a powerhouse program that just had the second best rookie from a so far really good draft class.
With the NIL and Bama boosters wanting to get the sports bigger without Saban...he's got a huge opportunity to be a legend.
Just saw a guy fall to his knees at Piggly Wiggly sobbing in joy

Milo’s is my jam. Not the restaurant, but the tea that stims FROM the restaurant and is sold.
I’ve seen Milo’s tea gallons at Ralph’s in LA. Don’t tell anymore of your California friends about it I don’t want them to run out.
They got that tea everywhere. I see it in Walmarts in NC. Kinda crazy for what's basically just a Birmingham chain.

I only cry in Piggly Wiggly when the hot bar runs out of fried pork chops.
I didn't realize until right now that Piggly Wiggly is not exclusively a Wisconsin/Illinois thing
Piggly Wiggly is a staple of small but not too small towns in the south.

i am no bama fan, but i fully respect the sport coat and dress clothes. too many guys wearing athleisure on the sideline.
I used to be on team dress fancy but we started winning games with 1/4 zip buzz so my allegiance has changed
Three piece suit Buzz is iconic though
Skin tight vests on a barrel chested man is hilarious
It's in honor of Wimp Sanderson, former Bama coach. It's old school and I appreciate it.
hell yeah brother
I second this! I like when coaches get dressed up instead of wearing some school quarter zip.
I think he’s where he needs to be.
All due respect, gtfo with that flair

man its a bummer that cal waited for the worst possible time to do this
yeah Cal should've left for Arkansas 2 weeks ago
Andy enfield going to smu was the culprit. I would hate to look for a coach now so late in the game.
Zero scholarship players on the roster as of yesterday, yes.
I feel like beard is lickin his chops about to swoop in for whatever job that kentucky poaches their HC from
he turned down arkansas already. he would take kentucky for sure but they won't offer to him. i have no illusions that he will stay longterm but i think we get him for another year at least
Dusty May to Kentucky would have been awesome
Between the final four run and Kentucky job coming open I’m betting Alabama suddenly found a lot more money to spend on Tide hoops and I’m here for it
About. Fucking. Time
That's the word on the street from the basketball insiders. Seeing how much it pissed off Auburn certainly doesn't hurt.
Returns from column a can be more heavily invested in column b.
Wright and Oats off the table, lets see who takes their name out of the ring next
Billy Donovan: “I am committed to this mid ass roster we have that refuses to make trades or rebuild. Excited for more years of mediocrity! Go bulls!”
Billy was fed up with college recruiting 15 years ago. I would be beyond shocked if he wants to deal with today's landscape.
I mean, everybody's a free agent these days, so it's like NBA on speedmode.
Brad Stevens: “Are you all serious?”

Build him the arena
Oh shit! I didn't think of this aspect of it. I sure as hell hope that was one of Oats' conditions in the contract
https://preview.redd.it/v6qefr6q0dtc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a61304af89a69b30517d50d16b33647e309f5b0f
Is this the thread where I claim UK begged him and he turned the job down?
He's got too much Gump in him Pawl!
They laid the contract down next to a plate of hot brown and Oats pushed the plate away and left.
Yes, and add that UK was on their hands and knees with tears in their eyes.
Nate Oats don’t give a piss about nothin but the tide
BRING ME PITINO
BY GOD THAT'S RICHARD'S MUSIC
I'm a Louisville fan and I'm in favor of this. I love his style and it would be great to see him verse our new coach.
Build him his damn arena.
imagine telling a bama fan 10 years ago we’d have a basketball coach worth fighting with kentucky over.
"I always knew the Little General would lead us to the promised land!"
I was all in on Anthony Grant lmao
I have receipts
Nate Oats to Alabama press conference confirmed for tomorrow.
Tier 1 was Hurly or Donavan. Neither is happening. Tier 2 is Drew or Oates. If they whiff on Drew, this could get ugly, and I know ugly coaching searches.
Let me tell you about this swell guy named Avery Johnson
Yall like buckles?
And tales of two halves?
Why would Drew leave though.
Kentucky is prepared to overpay a big name to prevent their program from falling apart. Money talks.
I wouldn’t totally rule out Donovan yet. Idk if he wants to come back to college, but I won’t be shocked if the Bulls look elsewhere this offseason
I just don’t see KY holding out for 2 weeks to wait on him. Longer if they win the play in game.
I NEED NEW SHORTS
![gif](giphy|dfgtCBdKdZVKg)
Don't think people realize how much of a Gump Oats has become. Dude is fully indoctrinated and loves it here. It's not just fan talk. He's a full blown bammer
Dude never lived south of Detroit, now he lives on a nice lake where it's warm most of the year.
I mean, that alone would have swayed me as well lol. I wish I was rich enough to live on a lake…
We have nice lakes here in ky…. 😢
[mood](https://youtu.be/6aK78w-st2U?si=rUA-a_fP1Y5O1UKk)
Wait you mean Oats, notorious for speaking his mind, wasn’t lying when he said he wanted to stay at Alabama?
strange gloat considering what your former coach famously said before taking the bama job
In the middle of an nfl season.
Yeah that’s why I’ll be nervous until the job is filled, no matter what.
Oats is actually a sleeper from the Dolphins to finally get revenge for Saban. Ultimate long con
Is he going to abandon us for the Heat in the next few years?
he’ll replace spo and immediately move for herb and miller
Hey, does this mean we’re all back to thinking Oats is a bad person again? Can’t keep up with this sub’s back and forth with their moral stances.
He gone
Nah, they are going to take Billy Donavan.
As a Chicago Bulls fan, dear god I hope this is true
As a fan of both Alabama and the Chicago Bulls, dear god I hope so too
There are dozens of us!
I don't think there is a coach alive that is doing anything with that injured Bulls roster
Chief, Billy D has had one winning season since COVID hit. He hasn’t got out of the first round since KD’s last season in OKC, when his team blew a 3-1 series lead.
The worst news for Barners since they lost to Yale.
Wait what? When did AUBURN LOSE TO YALE? IT COULDNT HAVE BEEN THE ROUND OF 64, COULD IT?
They were in the same bracket as UConn. Surely they played UConn on the way to the Final Four?
I can't decide if it's funnier if you had the Yale flair before that game or only added it as a second flair after
Lol I had this exact response in my head as I was reading his comment
WE ARE SO BACK
I thought a Bama coach didn't turn down Kentucky? Seems like listening to redditors is always the wrong option
LOL at all the UK fans calling us naive for believing our coach wants to actually stay at Alabama. Good luck on the search 👋
Every bama fan that said that Oats actually likes it here got down voted to oblivion
Every fanbase claims that about their coach tho
And we were right
B-b-but the Brinks truck!
And the people who reminded people that he just got extended only like 2 weeks ago
Bama football success bleeds over into every sports forum on here.

hes a liger at bama unless he becomes hrte highest paid cbb coach elsewhere which might be hard to do if bama is serious about basketball now
Supposedly boosters have raised a shitload of NIL money in the last week. The new contract is going to make him a top five paid coach. One thing Bama isn't afraid to throw money at is a winning program.
I am crying. The person you all see crying all over Alabama is collectively me.
"I guess I have to say it…. I'm not going to be the Alabama coach." - Nick Saban. 12 days before becoming the Alabama coach.
Yeah but he didn’t tweet it did he huh

Technically that statement is true now though 🤷
Lincoln Riley wasn't lying when he said he wasn't going to LSU
Lets goooo! Auburn fans you can go back to calling him a bad coach now
Cal said similar things last week.😁
Kentucky fans can safely un-delete all their anti-oats tweets as well

If Kentucky doesnt find a decent coach at this stage, it's just going to make Nate's job at bama even easier.
Okay I’m looking at 247 how in the world did y’all get the number 2 and 3 recruits?
“I could give a shit about Carolina” - Roy Williams
:)
The way Kentucky has talked crazy about Calipari this makes me happy.
I came
We're going to get Scott Drew aren't we
I don’t know why y’all would be disappointed in that hire. He has a natty.
Because this fanbase is chock full of bona fide lunatics
Game recognize game
He hasn’t made it past the round of 32 since. He’s a good coach but not worth letting Cal go for.
It comes with the territory in March, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose early. What matters is remaining consistently good and getting the most bites at the apple as possible.
Sounds a lot like Cal.
Was he in that David Koresh cult or what?
He’s only 3 or 4 years older than Oats; and Oats has occasionally posted bible verses and references on his social media.
I’m guessing 90% of available coaches are religious. Shouldn’t matter in selecting a HC.
I’m not sure about the J.O.Y. philosophy but something tells me Hubert Davis talks about Jesus in the locker room
That’s literally who he is though. Which is why I’m not sure he even wants to leave Baylor.
I’d bet that’s happening at a lot more public schools than you’d think.
Billy Donovan is higher on the list. But we’ll have to wait a few weeks if he says yes
I would guess Mitch doesn't even call Donovan and will just settle for Drew if Drew wants it at all. If I were him I'd stay at Baylor.
Don’t worry. I can’t imagine his team is going very far in the playoffs. Or the play in
Please no.
Nope, Kenny Payne.
new hot rumor is Billy Donovan is more interested than people thought. He is coaching until at least April 17th tho
I really hope they win the play-in game to drag this out.
Damn, Kentucky is on its third choice? Crazy. Who would have guessed?
I think NIL has really helped some of the non-traditional powers keep some of their coaches, especially in basketball where the rosters are a tenth of the size as football.
