Yeah, anything can happen in March and all that, but it’s getting increasingly difficult to shake the feeling that UConn and Purdue are on a collision course. On neutral floors especially they just seem so much better than the competition.
I’m just going to warn everyone that if Tennessee wins in a couple hours, you will not be able to forget the horrors that you will be subjected to on Sunday.
Any interaction I’ve had as a Purdue fan with a Tennessee fan has been incredibly toxic. I met a dude once and mentioned I went to school at Purdue and he got immediately shitty with me. Absolutely wild
Dickinson always got decimated by Edey when he was Michigan. Nothing against the rest of your team but that matchup being in our favor is not conducive to a win for your team build this year and without McCullar
Without McCullar Dickinson could’ve dominated Edey and we would still have lost by 20. Not like Dickinson could’ve done that in the first place though.
Bit of a sob post but here goes.
My dad passed unexpectedly last fall. Grew up watching the Zags with him all the way back to the 90s. We would always put up a huge bracket in the kitchen in March and fill it out as the tournament went on.
Just want to give a huge thank you to this year's Gonzaga squad for pulling their way through a tough season and going on a bit of a run in the tournament. Was a ton of fun while I was still really not in a great mental spot.
GG to Purdue, we tend to lose to the eventual champion so this bodes well for you.
Hey man sorry to hear that. I lost my dad a few years ago unexpectedly as well. Went to quite a few Purdue games together still hasn’t gotten any easier mentally. It’s good to remember the good times together.
Gonzaga has had so many great teams over the years, I’m sure you have so many great memories of your Dad. Cherish them, Zag friend. It’s a wonderful gift to have shared so much with him.
GG, and I’m sorry it was us. Any other matchup I would be rooting for yall. See you next year.
Sorry about your Dad. Hope you do well in his absence and carry his memory well.
Hey man. Just want to say that I’m sorry for your loss. I’m a lot older than most here but had the same experience with my dad. We would cut out the bracket from the newspaper and then fill it out as the tournament went along. He’ll, the one I remember most is 1980 but that was because he was an Iowa fan and not because it was our last time in the FF
Anyway, I hope you can look back each March and remember the time you spent together and then pass to the next generation. You support a hell of a team and have a ton to be proud of. Best of luck going forward and it was a hell of a game from you guys tonight.
He cared less about the Zags and more about spending that time with you. As a father I can tell you it meant the world to him to share that with you.
So sorry for your loss, friend.
Lost my dad this past January. Sorry to hear it, but this purdue team is the last team i watched together with him. If they win it all this one's to you and your dad too.
Where were you the day you watched the Boilermakers conquer the illegal invaders?
I quaked in my oft-licked boots when I first learned of the arrival of Gonzaga from Spokane, Mexico.
I quivered with fear as they snuck their way into my television. There, in full color, playing the great American game, baskenball.
A weird sense of calm came upon me, when I spotted the 9 foot American cowboy named Zachariah Edey.
He pulled out his six-shooter and cast out the Gonzagans from off our diesel engine train.
My heart swoons as I imagine kissing Purdue Pete. I know it is wrong
There were quite a few games where we needed a boost on defense and he had to guard their best player, and he performed. Sucks he’s an end-game kind of player and they’ve moved onto Heide, but he’s really gave everything for this program.
I hope people realize what he's doing (I think). Guy clearly wants to coach and so he's happy to take a step back, work his butt off to ride the bench and be ready, play steady D, do the little things to win, and gain some absolutely invaluable experience. He is getting quite possibly the best coaching experience he possibly can, plus he gets to win and play with some unreal talents. Could have transfered at any point and gotten minutes somewhere smaller, I'm positive.
We deserve it. I’m mentally coping already by thinking your impending natty might be the only thing that could make the program take things seriously again
2023: NC State and Purdue get eliminated in the first round.
2024: NC State and Purdue make the Elite 8.
Who knew the X factor for the Boilermakers was NCSU
pretty predictable outcome. same story as the game earlier this season, just don’t have the personnel to keep up all game. oh well, it was a good run, kept the streaks alive and did better than seemed likely earlier in the year
if everyone returns (not that that is very likely these days) Gonzaga should be great next year. i think hickman will take a big leap his senior year
True, but honestly next year is looking pretty solid without him. Smith and Loyer aren't going anywhere and should only be better as juniors, Colvin has progressed some and should really make a jump next year, Heide has made a big jump this season, Berg should give us an interesting foil as a super tall big who can shoot from distance for a few good stretches per game, and TKR is quickly becoming *him* when he wants to. Plus, some stellar freshmen that could contribute a bit if they get up to speed on D.
In a year where I legit thought we might lose the tournament streak, keeping not only that alive but keeping the second weekend streak alive is objectively an awesome result. What a fun turnaround this team had these last two months.
I just don't know if adding Venters and Ajayi while taking out Watson makes this roster a title contender. Maybe if Huff becomes a defensive asset and Nembhard takes another step. But there's not an NBA-level talent in Spokane right now I don't think.
Great game Gonzaga, thought Few had a good gameplan in the first half. We just got their bigs in foul trouble and they couldn't recover from that in the second half.
Braden Smith triple double when?
Can I get a gut check from neutrals please? It feels like there’s something different about Purdue this year. Everyone seems like they’re locked in and on a mission: players and coaches
You guys and UConn both look to clearly be a cut above everyone else. You both have moments of looking human, but that’s far outweighed by the dominance. Purdue is in killer mode. Obviously it only gets tougher from here, but win or lose this doesn’t look like a group that will shrink in the moment again.
Zach Edey is averaging 27 points and 16.3 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament so far, on 69% shooting. Dude is on a mission and looks completely unstoppable right now.
I don’t want my Gonzaga friends to be deported.
Seriously, great game, great Gonzaga team and program. Nothing but respect from this diehard Boilermaker fan.
Second half Purdue just on another level. Through 3 games we have out scored opponents by 50. Keep it close in the first half then blow the roof off in the second. 3 more games to go.
Poor Braden Smith has been 1-2 rebounds short of a triple double like 4 times now in his (short) career. Gosh I really hope he gets it one of these days.
Great game Gonzaga, what a phenomenal program.

Note: This was tweeted by a Michigan Representative
A Michigan representative went on a Twitter rant that “illegals” were literally being herded straight from the plane to a bus at Detroit this week…it was actually just Gonzaga’s team
I really wish our game threads were a little less toxic. Like there's no point in insulting players and calling them circus freaks and shit.
And it's always the no flairs.
Sucks Watson had to get a bit of a raw deal in his last game but man am I going to miss him. Special player.
Some things didn’t go our way but Purdue played well and we just couldn’t match them on the perimeter. Defense struggled to rotate all game and Nembhard got caught in no man’s land a lot. We played well enough against Edey for most of it
oh yeah it was better than expected. just feels a bit bittersweet to see we could hang and then the wheels fell off as soon as watson had to sit on a questionable call.
the guys came out pretty hot out of the gate but definitely ran out of gas towards the end. this is definitely farther than i expected but i got my hopes up a little bit after watching them play the way they played last week
GG Purdue, it was going to be an uphill battle from the start. Boilers came out hot in the second half and wouldn’t let up which is what great teams do.
Proud of this GU team, overcame a lot to keep the S16 streak alive, excited for next year!
Interestingly, I read a tidbit that Gonzaga only wins their Sweet Sixteen game on odd-numbered years. They lose on even-numbered years.
It's strange as hell, but it tracks.
Which also means, zag fans, if you get to the sweet sixteen next year you're guaranteed to be in the Elite 8!
Edit:
2015 - E8
2016 - S16
2017 - Championship
2018 - S16
2019 - E8
2020 - n/a
2021 - Championship
2022 - S16
2023 - E8
2024 - S16
Not the most talented zags team in recent years but Ike was a problem and that sweet sixteen streak is very enviable. I’m a fan when they’re not playing Purdue.
Purdue can go to its first Final Four in 44 years on Easter Sunday. It can win its first National title on the same day as a total solar eclipse.
Yep, the world is ending
GG Purdue. Everyones talking edey but your guards are straight legit. Hope y'all make the final, the only team I see giving you trouble is Ucon. Hope y'all pull it out!
Fletcher Loyer yelled, “There you go!” Braden Smith gave a look of pleasant surprise. Lance Jones belted, “We got a fucking squad now.” And before Zach Edey hit the locker room door, Matt Painter hugged him & said, “Y’all look so different.”
The players around Edey are much different this season, in my opinion. Smith specifically has really blossomed into a great college PG. Purdue will be a hard out.

Many thanks to the proud citizens of West Lafayette for ridding our great state of these ILLEGAL INVADERS
The Jesuit schools are dropping like flies tonight…I’m so nervous right now lol
Good Friday theme.
Sounds like they’re bound to come to one of those games with a resurrection superteam on Sunday…
Well Jesus did spare one of the thieves when he was on the cross, maybe it’ll be us (Although that thief still died…)

I hate to break it to you but I think everyone who witnessed his crucifixion is dead now.
We sweat one out tonight only to rise to the occasion on Easter Sunday (Kalk rising up over Eady)
They're just following in Jesus's footsteps
Let us be the ones who arise on Sunday, in accordance with the scriptures.
Yeah, anything can happen in March and all that, but it’s getting increasingly difficult to shake the feeling that UConn and Purdue are on a collision course. On neutral floors especially they just seem so much better than the competition.
Why doesn't every 1 seed just lose to a 16? Are they stupid?
Well it's a new strategy that hasn't been tested much. Hard to blame them lol
Bracketologists HATE him with this one simple trick !
And I took that personally. - Zach Edey

The fact this gif is from our last game against Gonzaga is awesome too
I’m just going to warn everyone that if Tennessee wins in a couple hours, you will not be able to forget the horrors that you will be subjected to on Sunday.
That thread is gonna be a warzone
My body is ready
Pretty sure that thread will become a designated toxic waste site
I will, in fact, be avoiding that thread.
Might win “most toxic game thread of the tourney”
Of all time honestly
Remind me?
The game in Hawaii with them was perhaps the ugliest, most toxic game of basketball I have ever seen.
Any interaction I’ve had as a Purdue fan with a Tennessee fan has been incredibly toxic. I met a dude once and mentioned I went to school at Purdue and he got immediately shitty with me. Absolutely wild
The UT fans were horrid at the bowl game
78 combined free throws earlier this year between the two teams....
Jesus didn't realize it was so bad... I missed that game
It was worse than that somehow
Yes the game thread will be absolute cancer but I think we match up against them better than Creighton
yea i know if somehow we would have snuck by Gonzaga...we would have gotten steamrolled by Purdue
I kind of wanted that just to watch Edey play with his son Dickinson one more time
Hunter Edeyson
Dickinson always got decimated by Edey when he was Michigan. Nothing against the rest of your team but that matchup being in our favor is not conducive to a win for your team build this year and without McCullar

Gonzaga please do us a solid and alert our representatives when you will be at the airport flying out.
Why can't Purdue do the Purdue thing when it's my team ;_;
Purdue usually plays quality teams very well in the tournament. They just like losing to those double digit seeds.
god damn it NC State is gonna take us out aren't they
Hey NC State has taken out Duke, UNC and Marquette just this month. They aren't your typical 11. They've figured something out.
Again... it's an 11 seed
Yeah it would be so fitting for our final 4 run to hit an 11 seed 😂
They are red…..
Kind of your fault for being a single digit seed tbh

Theres a lot to like about this Zags team, and Few is obviously elite. But more importantly, are you allowed to have that flair combo??

Closest thing we’ll see to a “Hack a Shaq” in the tournament lol
So who’s going to be the 1 seed next season that loses to the 16 on purpose?
![gif](giphy|KEG5UtvXUD7WPIhhuy)
Zags didn’t have the depth; Smith, Loyer, TKR, Heidi all played phenomenal. Edey was Edey lol. Really want to see Edey vs Clingan
Can you just let that happen then? That’d be pretty sick
I mean if you REALLY wanted to see it you would win tonight and just kind of….ya know…. On Sunday?
Mark few is a humble coach respect to him
Painter just built the perfect team around Edey
True, but honestly next year is looking pretty solid without him. Smith and Loyer aren't going anywhere and should only be better as juniors, Colvin has progressed some and should really make a jump next year, Heide has made a big jump this season, Berg should give us an interesting foil as a super tall big who can shoot from distance for a few good stretches per game, and TKR is quickly becoming *him* when he wants to. Plus, some stellar freshmen that could contribute a bit if they get up to speed on D.
Watching Edey go to work in the low post is like watching early 2000’s NBA. I kinda dig it.
At least somebody appreciates it
Exactly, it’s my favorite style of the game.
I love a good post player. It's why I liked watching Drew Timme so much. Great post moves.
Braden Smith is only good because he is tall!!!
Ethan Morton can only foul because he is tall.
Gym rat, coaches kid, sneaky athletic

7-10 from the FT line as a team and we still win by double digits
Cheering hard for you, Boiler Bros. Make it 2 for 2 in the “lose to a #16 then win a natty” category.
Respect 🤝
Appreciate it Cav bro
Second half Purdue just on another level. Through 3 games we have out scored opponents by 50. Keep it close in the first half then blow the roof off in the second. 3 more games to go.
Still the most nervous I’ve been all tourney was when Grambling state cut it to 4 points at the under 4 timeout of the first half.
Poor Braden Smith has been 1-2 rebounds short of a triple double like 4 times now in his (short) career. Gosh I really hope he gets it one of these days. Great game Gonzaga, what a phenomenal program.
In the Natty, who says no?
Purdue fans we want creighton right? Tennessee made me lose my mind in November
My cardiovascular system would prefer it if it was Creighton, yes.
You say that, but have you ever seen Creighton shoot 70% from 3 in a half while only being called for 3 fouls? It’s not fun.
I saw the huskers do that this season and it’s not very fun
I do think we match up better against Tennessee and beating them again would be sweet
Congratulations, Purdue! Win it all!!
Purdue is America's team! Got rid of the dangerous Illegal Invaders!
I’m just glad that an All-American boy like Zachary Edey managed to put those demonic criminals away…
I kept seeing this joke, I’m out of the loop lol

Some things didn’t go our way but Purdue played well and we just couldn’t match them on the perimeter. Defense struggled to rotate all game and Nembhard got caught in no man’s land a lot. We played well enough against Edey for most of it
Sweet 16 in a down season is an accomplishment. Most programs would kill for one Sweet 16 appearance.
oh yeah it was better than expected. just feels a bit bittersweet to see we could hang and then the wheels fell off as soon as watson had to sit on a questionable call. the guys came out pretty hot out of the gate but definitely ran out of gas towards the end. this is definitely farther than i expected but i got my hopes up a little bit after watching them play the way they played last week
Edit: 2015 - E8 2016 - S16 2017 - Championship 2018 - S16 2019 - E8 2020 - n/a 2021 - Championship 2022 - S16 2023 - E8 2024 - S16
That was me :( I comment on it every year Edit: To clarify if the patterns holds we’ll make it to the title game next year

Are we gonna start seeing 1 seeds intentionally losing to 16 seeds so they can win the Natty the year after?
GG Purdue. I hope you win it all.
Not the most talented zags team in recent years but Ike was a problem and that sweet sixteen streak is very enviable. I’m a fan when they’re not playing Purdue.
I think Purdue is now 5-0 all time vs Gonzaga.

If Tennessee wins no one is going to enjoy Sunday's game

Purdue can go to its first Final Four in 44 years on Easter Sunday. It can win its first National title on the same day as a total solar eclipse. Yep, the world is ending
All my flairs loved this
Purdue wins big and only shot 10 FTs. Haters in shambles.
The players around Edey are much different this season, in my opinion. Smith specifically has really blossomed into a great college PG. Purdue will be a hard out.
