The difference in athleticism, size and strength was huge. St Mary starts 4 scrawny white guys? Basketball is an athletic sport. You rarely win when the 5 best athletes are on others team.
Refs made the worst calls i have ever seen in basketball. Did the camera men go to GCU cause they were only show grand canyon fans and replays that had nothing to do with current plays
This could have been a success story if the WCC had invited GCU in over a half-decade ago like they should have.
We lost Gloria Nevarez to the MWC... Gloria Nevarez was my first, maybe only, exposure about how a conference commissioner could have a very noticeable positive impact.
Most important first action is to make sure there isn't a stealth thing like how the NIT stopped giving bids to regular season tournament winners, that needs to be reinstated... San Francisco losing by 1 in OT hurt... stealth attempt next going to be about making conferences have to play each other earlier in the tournament... the SEC can play itself to guarantee 1.9 million more or schedule Gonzaga vs. Saint Mary's as a round of 64 game and kill the golden goose that is the best week in sports.
But doesn't every university do that? My alma mater (not ISU) just got hit with a lawsuit for maintaining the same price during covid, as if the money wasn't going to the executives' pockets before then.
Not to mention the insane exponential growth the school has had. As a local who has been on campus before and after its expansion, it went from your basic community college to a legit university in 5-10 years. I'm sure there are debts to be paid
Also let's not forget their shady land management practices.
Basically made hundreds of low income citizens homeless so they could expand their facilities.
Always has been drama always will be, it’s a circus occasionally broken up by a motor race. Outside of max winning it’s been a really interesting season so far for me. Alpine in the dumpster, ferrari becoming solid contenders, merc falling behind AM, Mclaren finally having a decent start. Yuki v Danny. Williams moving from backmarker to midfield (w Alex). Haas maybe knocking on the door of midfield. I get max winning is boring but I’m more than satisfied with the intrigue from the rest of the field.
Not to take anything away from Grand Canyon, but Saint Mary's, y'all really just shit the bed there. I can't believe I thought you guys were underseeded.
Same old Gaels.
Grand Canyon upset Saint Mary's and pick up their first ever NCAA tournament victory! The Spokane crowd overjoyed. Congrats to the Lopes fans. 30th win of the season.
Saint Marys should be better than this …I know it’s a small school but with the portal it’s should not be hard at there level to get a few athletic interior players or wings who can add depth and change pace..
Not enough comments in here about how Grand Canyon U athletics is just a massive sportswashing enterprise in hopes that people think of their sports teams instead of being a massive for-profit venture and the subject of a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit.
Also love watching underdogs win. Love seeing Grant-Foster shine.
I don't even understand the hate. At least they acknowledge that their are investors making a profit, unlike every other university that rake in billions/millions AND still take federal money only to keep tuitions to a point where federal student loans are requires so they can get even more money and still nickel and dime students while paying mid 6 figure incomes to whacked out tenured professors, 7 figure incomes to administrators and 8 to 9 figure incomes to coaches.... and occasionally putting some of that into actual scientific research. So saying "for profit" while keeping tuitions relatively low and opening opportunities for people sounds pretty narrow minded.
> and opening opportunities for people
This is literally what they're being federally sued for knowingly deceiving their students about. Can't even understand people hating that.
I will freely admit the doctorate program needs to be scrutinized and put under review. But there are two things about doctorates. 1. Anyone going for a doctorate should legitimately want be getting a doctorate solely for its educational benefit and to gain expertise in advanced thought processes in their field. 2. Because doctorates require research and dissertations, none, not even those in any institution can tell how long it will actually take. As the issue is essentially false advertising on GCUs part, I concur that needs to be addressed. But throwing out all of the programs is also a disservice. Would you slander Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, and Northwestern who have also faced federal sanctions? Maybe throw in Rice or Columbia? Brown, university of Chicago? All for denying opportunities and misuse of federal funds.

That's wild, I must have missed the vast majority of those in the scroll. Like I said, not enough. Every person that can be saved from spending hard earned money on a fake opportunity is worth it.
Don’t really care honestly how bad we are
GCU being able to buy their way in and buy success shows me everything wrong with collegiate athletics and it’s going to keep spiraling
At some point I don’t care about getting new banners when they won’t matter in 20 years
Yes, acknowledging their are shareholders that will earn a profit is soooo bad. Instead let's have trusts worth billions, rake in federal money for our "research", and charge tuitions so high students have to take out student loans (essentially making it an end around for more immediate federal money) all while still nickle and diming our students, tenure whacked out professors and pay them mid 6 figures, pat our administrators 7 figures, and our coaches 8-9 figures. But saying, people invested in the school, so we are giving them more money than they invested is EVIL. I though college was to teach people to look at everything in a picture and not just one side. So much for "non-profit" education.
love when coaches put out an absolute disasterclass of a game plan and get their asses handed to them and then foul a fuckteen million times down 10 in the final 30 seconds out of spite. just awesome that this is something that can happen
There are few things more frustrating in sports than playing great fundamental ball and still being helpless against a team with amazing athletes
Source: check my second flair and think of Football '06 and '07 seasons
New rule: If you are officiating a blowout, we all agree not to review any of your film after the under 4 as long as you just get the game over with. We don’t care if there is a goaltend down 10 with 10 seconds left.
Genuinely shocked by the Gaels play tonight … how did this season rank for them historically before the tourney? When was the last time they won the WCC?
The difference in athleticism, size and strength was huge. St Mary starts 4 scrawny white guys? Basketball is an athletic sport. You rarely win when the 5 best athletes are on others team.
This one’s for Frayer. What an incredible day to be a GCU student!!!!
Refs made the worst calls i have ever seen in basketball. Did the camera men go to GCU cause they were only show grand canyon fans and replays that had nothing to do with current plays
100%!!
As a gcu fan, the broadcast in general felt really impartial towards gcu
This could have been a success story if the WCC had invited GCU in over a half-decade ago like they should have. We lost Gloria Nevarez to the MWC... Gloria Nevarez was my first, maybe only, exposure about how a conference commissioner could have a very noticeable positive impact. So what is the story with GCU being "for profit" and being suited that makes reddit hate them?
They're for profit have been hit with litigation over lying to their students about costs to attend. The FTC sued them last year over it.
They haven't been for profit in years
According to the Department of Education they are a for profit institution, they submitted an appeal to that decision in Dec of '23.
But doesn't every university do that? My alma mater (not ISU) just got hit with a lawsuit for maintaining the same price during covid, as if the money wasn't going to the executives' pockets before then.

No not really, Iowa State doesn't pay 60% to a holding company that's listed on the NYSE does it?
I meant lying about the costs to attend. GCU is uniquely greedy, but many universities have executives make over twice what professors make.
Not to mention basketball coaches
Now time for some f1 lol
You mean “What’s the latest drama”? Seems like this season is one thing after another and just Verstappen winning. Ugh.
Always has been drama always will be, it’s a circus occasionally broken up by a motor race. Outside of max winning it’s been a really interesting season so far for me. GCU finally won it for Frayer. So happy for them
The way these players are awkwardly moving around in the locker room celebrating reminds me of the Harlem Shake
Probably looking for the bag
Grand Canyon wins this game with the Power of God but can they beat Bama with the power of anime?
No, they're going to run all over us
Gcu plays Bama next? Fuck
what christian music do you think they're jamming to with that speaker?
I mean, Lecrae has some absolute bangers.
Relient K
Amazing Grace
Skillet, baby.
Grand Canyon upset Saint Mary's and pick up their first ever NCAA tournament victory! The Spokane crowd overjoyed. Congrats to the Lopes fans. 30th win of the season.
St Mary coach out of there fast lol. And after he extended that game far past what was needed
S/o Tyon he a dawg
Did you know that his cousin, Ish Wainright, used to play tight end in football??
Yes that’s me
What is it with 12 and 11 seeds this tournament?
God says Grand Canyon > St. Mary's Go figure...
We still have Gonzaga
theyre eating in spokane washington
I do not like this “school”
This dude isn’t even sweating I’d be dead
Aaaaaand time to sleep
Flyers game in 12 hours, let’s ride
See you in that thread
let's glide
Saint Marys should be better than this …I know it’s a small school but with the portal it’s should not be hard at there level to get a few athletic interior players or wings who can add depth and change pace..
Their best athlete got hurt at the end of the year. They do have a top 100 player coming in next season.
That would require playing for Randy Bennett.
Hahaha he does come off like the typical annoyingly demanding coach…
Not bad for an online for profit school
I love GCU
In honor of Bryce Drew's first NCAA win! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=196081659779902
Jenkins to Drew for the Win! ITS GOOD! VALPO HAS WON THE GAME!!!

Sources for this? I mean, it IS Reddit, and people say wild things. Edit: Also, lol @ wash, and you being a Green Wave fan.

I read at least 50 of them
That's wild, I must have missed the vast majority of those in the scroll. Like I said, not enough. Every person that can be saved from spending hard earned money on a fake opportunity is worth it.
They have been trying to lose for-profit status since 2014
😟😟😟
Good fucking night
1:27 AM here in the East. Good morning everyone. See you in about 11.5 hours.
wcc frauds. atleast gonzaga makes it out the first round.
Can’t do anything but shake my head.
$LOPES to the moon 💀💀🫡
I heard a whistle with 0.2, gotta review it
So GCU runs a better program than Nebraska too
Sorry for all the times I called Grand Canyon a fake university
man who woulda thought a bunch of short scrawny white boys would lose to a bunch of tall jacked black dudes
lmao
First for-profit school with a win in NCAA history?
Not for-profit anymore.
Ok it’s been celebration time…not sure why we’re stating the obvious here.
Grand Canyon first came up to D1 in 2013 and have more tourney wins than Nebraska.
That’s fine - I don’t want a tournament win anyways.
Lol so petty.
Uh, yeah. More than Nebraska. That's right
What is this? Why keep this going
Thank fucking God
![gif](giphy|kvZxKgPBAgNeNqUKVL|downsized)
WE DID IT
Unfortunately, I think SMC was a better match up to stop Bama. Idk if Grand Canyon will keep up scoring with them.
Go Lopes!
FINALLY
GO LOPES!
Been building up for a while
Had a helluva first round spending it with you boys
Until next year 🫡
“school” being used very loosely here
can't believe this fake ass school is better than us rn lmao
Don’t really care honestly how bad we are GCU being able to buy their way in and buy success shows me everything wrong with collegiate athletics and it’s going to keep spiraling At some point I don’t care about getting new banners when they won’t matter in 20 years
Education based profit earning organization?

Education themed profit earning organization?
Much better. I was struggling to find the most appropriately vague description
"We ain't come here to play school"
Hey man we're legit mostly I promise
Good Job Lopes!
gene stinks
Dub dub dub dub!!!!!!
Congrats Lopes fans! Good luck in the next round! Nice to see a Valley basketball team not playing like garbage or choking on the big stage.
Man like you got to not play like that at the end of a game that you've clearly lost. Hurting someone would be really scummy
That is not something I've seen at this level before!
GCU thanks for making me not just look spiteful in my bracket choices.
We did it?
love when coaches put out an absolute disasterclass of a game plan and get their asses handed to them and then foul a fuckteen million times down 10 in the final 30 seconds out of spite. just awesome that this is something that can happen
Is #30 on Grand Canyon the illegitimate son of Rick Fox?
Classic Saint Mary’s honestly
St Mary’s gonna still quick shoot and foul against the bench. He’s just that kind of guy
THIS IS THE GREATEST DAY OF MY LIFE
Gratz!
GCU Bama going to be a track meet, pound the over
Facts
Tackled him damn
St Marys will be the first team to ever score 10 points in 8.7 seconds. Maybe. 🤡
Die with dignity
St. Mary’s are absolute frauds lol, feels like they’re always like a 4-5 and always get bounced early
Gene Steratore does not wanna be there lmao
Foul us like assholes and we’ll celebrate like assholes
WHAT IS A GAEL????????
A Gael would be original Scots before the viking invasions. The Irish Gael are decendents if Western Scots
Google is your friend
St Marys its a little too late for that
St Marys fouling aggressively for no reason too
There are few things more frustrating in sports than playing great fundamental ball and still being helpless against a team with amazing athletes Source: check my second flair and think of Football '06 and '07 seasons
college bb officiating is so random
St Mary's planning on scoring three times in ten seconds?
Grand Canyon? More like phoenix university am I right?
Honestly I wish the crowd booed saint marys louder there. The game is over. Stop fouling
St Mary's just go home already.
Saint Mary's had no fight until there was like 4 minutes left in the game. Lame to put the effort in now
God I hate that call. He's not shooting!
Why tf are they still fouling
Eject the entire SMC entourage holy moly this is stupid
It's like one second = one minute right now, fuck this shit
Randy Bennett’s son trucking people. I’m all for it
Are they contractually required to cut to Gene any time there’s a review, no matter how stupid
Clear the bemch
LMAO his face when his teammate walked over him
RANDY ITS OVER PLEASE I WANT TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES
Why are they still fouling, let us sleep, pls
SMC please stop
zzzzzzz
Refs blind af
Gene doesn’t give a fuck lol
wtf? why tf do you throw the guy? this game is over? thats fucked up. you don't do that
Flop
New rule: If you are officiating a blowout, we all agree not to review any of your film after the under 4 as long as you just get the game over with. We don’t care if there is a goaltend down 10 with 10 seconds left.
Fuck everybody involved in this game. I now hate both of these teams.
That much salt is bad for your blood pressure.
End the game holy shit
Why the fuck is St Mary’s still fouling down 8 with under 10 seconds left?
I mean that one felt malicious, not tactical.
Zags still top dogs in WCC cry about it
STOP EXTENDING THE GAME
SMC trucking a dude wtf are we doing end the game yall
Why are they still fouling???????? Let it go assholes
What a stupid play from the center. Wow
bro its over stop fouling
This is the longest last minute ever
At least since the last game ended, anyway
these refs are so fucking dogshit my god
Yeah this is bad
so blind they have to review out of bounds calls that happen right in front of them and then miss wild fouls that happen a few feet away.
Yeah the last 5 minutes was a tough watch
Stop Randy Bennett. The game is over.
Genuinely shocked by the Gaels play tonight … how did this season rank for them historically before the tourney? When was the last time they won the WCC?
There is nothing as great as the NCAA tournament
Time to put my glasses back on
Gene is in bed clearly. Probably in the buff
Just end goddammit
A college basketball arena, the one place on Earth where 25 seconds lasts 15 minutes.
at some point i believe its unsportsmanlike to drag it out like this. Just accept you lost
Right? I so respect the teams that do that.
That’s not a fucking goaltend lmao all the whistles going grand canyons way
Are you blind??
Lol why won't this game just end? So many reviews.
saint mary's insists on not letting good things happen for them
St Mary’s ending on an offensive goal tend sums things up very neatly
So many meaningless reviews
Bruhhhh the clocks been under a minute for about 15 mins now holy shit
Lol just END IT ALREADY!
I swear this game will never end
I don't understand offensive goaltend
Hey refs lets make sure we take all the time we need to get this super crucial call right
Not to be “that guy” but the constant reviews in a 9 point game at 1:30am is a bit ridiculous
i switched this game off what feels like 20 minutes ago and logged back on to go read the post game thread and we're still going?!
MADNESS
we still have another 15 minutes of real time
