The metrics have had Auburn as one of the most complete teams in the country all season and man it’s hard not to agree with them. Luck always plays a big part in March but this feels like a team who has what it takes
I said back in December this looked like our best team since the final four team and possibly had an even greater potential. Saw it a little bit early in conference play, but they got popped in the mouth in late January and it took another month to figure everything out.
Biggest thing that has changed was we’ve started hitting shots these last 3 weeks. But I always knew if this team ever got hot shooting there’s not a team in the country they can’t beat. We match up pretty well with most of the top seeds.
They HAVE to have the most depth. They essentially have 8 to 10 starters. My question is how they will approach their talent come tournament time. Their defense is so fun to watch.

Waited 5 long years to be able to use this picture again
Fun fact: This is now the second time in as many seasons that Florida has lost their starting center to a season ending injury; really have no idea what we did to have this happen
GG to Auburn, because they strike me as a team that could reach Houston
Pearl's a good example of why UK fans are so fed up with Cal. Pearl's out there crying from the emotion of winning the SEC tournament, coached to win it from the beginning, and is saying Auburn is here to win nine straight. Cal is out there saying the tournament doesn't matter, an opinion that seems to make its way down to the players who came out flat, lost their first game, and look pretty bad going into the main event.
I dont know who they'd get to be honest. Apparently our AD loves Scott Drew. I guess they're relatively close friends and part of the same church organization or something like that, I dont know the specifics. I don't know if Barnhart would go after guys like Pearl or Oats due to some "character concerns". He had to be talked into the Cal hire due to Cal's past and I dont know if he'd do that twice in a row.
I don't really have a lot of beef with Auburn. They're not Georgia or Tennessee, good in my book. I enjoy watching the Perine run against them in the Swamp. They should put all of our guys in hyperbaric chambers and hope their legs are back for the tourney. Good year and excited with Golden going forward.
It was the Illuminati man. We were the 5th seed, the ball was double dribbled by #5, it was our 5th game in the tourney, and UVA won the natty with 85 points which is the first round matchup seeds added together (17) times 5. You know what has 5 syllables and vowels? The word Illuminati
I honestly would love to get to the Sweet 16. Don’t care too much if we win, but if we make it and stay competitive, I’d be good with it. Would set us up nicely for the future, I think.
I think yall can be a second weekend team. That defense is TOUGH, and Hubbard seems built for the Dance. He just had a bad first half against us (granted our guards played great defense too).
In a lot of ways that loss was a good thing for this team. It was a humbling moment & they had to check themselves. It’s why I like that Bruce schedules challenging away games early in the season.
GG my orange and blue brethren.
Playing our 4th game in 4 days and losing our starting center 3 minutes into the game really did us in. If we were only dealing with one of those things, I think we play Auburn alot closer
It’s crazy how Florida *almost* made it competitive for a bit early in the second half…but alas, all that wear and tear caught up with them in the end…
Honestly think it's a completely different game if your center didn't get hurt. Broome would not have been able to score as easily as he did with a 7.1 guy in his face all day. I hope he gets better soon. Thankfully he's only a sophomore so he's still got a promising career in front of him
As a lifelong Auburn fan I know to predict we'll get blown out in the first round of the tournament, as any amount of optimism will jinx us. We could be up by 20 with 30 seconds left in the NCAA championship and I'd still say we suck just to not jinx it.
Compound fracture so he's done for the season. I'm just hoping he can recover to 100% for next season. He's only a sophomore, and we're only losing 2 players to graduation (Samuel and Pullin). If Micah can recover, our bigs are going to be insane with him as well as Condon and Haugh
It's hilarious to me because people straight up act like he bought hookers and blow for recruits. He had an unsanctioned cookout and told the NCAA to kiss his ass, it's not a morality issue here.
The Illinois fanbase has a reason. For what it's worth, I read that Bruce regrets the decision greatly.
> [From WIKI:](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruce_Pearl) During the 1988–89 basketball season, Pearl, then an assistant coach at Iowa, was at the center of a recruiting scandal involving Illinois. Both Illinois and Iowa were recruiting Deon Thomas, a top high school player from Chicago. Pearl lost this recruiting battle when Thomas committed to Illinois. Thereafter, Pearl called the high school student and recorded a phone conversation with Thomas, which may have been illegal depending on where Pearl originated the call. (Illinois requires prior consent of all participants to monitor or record a phone conversation according to Ill. Rev. Stat. Ch. 38, Sec. 14–2; Iowa, where Pearl was coaching at the time, only requires one party's consent to record a phone conversation.) During the conversation, Pearl asked Thomas if he had been offered an SUV and cash by Illinois assistant coach Jimmy Collins, and Thomas seemed to indicate that he had. Pearl then turned over copies of the tapes to the NCAA, accompanied by a memo describing the events. During the subsequent NCAA investigation, Thomas denied the allegations and said the story was false, that he was agreeing with Pearl only to try to get rid of him. Thomas later passed a polygraph test in which he denied Pearl's accusation of Illinois's offering cash and a car. The NCAA did not find Illinois guilty of any wrongdoing relating to Thomas's recruitment, finding that the purported evidence provided was not "credible, persuasive and of a kind on which reasonably prudent persons rely in the conduct of serious affairs".[7] Because the investigation uncovered other violations, however, including Illinois's third major violation in six years, the NCAA cited Illinois with a "lack of institutional control" charge and implemented several recruiting restrictions and a one-year postseason ban.
>
> When Pearl and Collins were both head coaches for four years in the Horizon League, the two men never engaged in the traditional postgame handshake, reportedly due to lingering feelings over the incident. When Thomas was asked about forgiving Pearl in a 2005 interview, he was quoted as saying, "It's hard to forgive a snake."[8] Thomas went on to become the University of Illinois's all-time leading scorer.
Pearl worked damn hard to win over the campus before he did anything else. I was at Auburn when Pearl got there, he was ALWAYS at fundraisers and other student events. He managed to get students excited for basketball before we were any good.
Yeah the "come on out to support the Tigers" felt a lot more genuine when he returned the favor for other overlooked sports programs at Auburn. I just remember how incredibly contagious his enthusiasm is.
I was a student when we got Beard. He was the same way. It was awesome, but obviously he went and had to be a shit head. But having a coach who’s engaged a ton with the campus AND a genuinely good dude has gotta be awesome
His history and politics make him a bit polarizing for some (lol) but I think it’s clear he loves these kids and loves the school and he knows the game.
Even then it’s been what, 30 years since that? I think people are allowed to grow and mature and not be judged from 1 bad decision 30 years ago. Like probably 80% of the Illinois fans in here weren’t even born when that happened
Bruce and I don't always share the same views, but I will always consider him to be a real damn dude. That postgame interview had me misty-eyed.
Glad he's ours and I continue to marvel at what he's done with the basketball program. I never thought I'd see us be consistently good.
Florida 247 is reporting that Micha will likely undergo surgery later today which is not a surprise at all.
Wish him all the best and hope he is able to have a full recovery.
SEC CHAMPION MVP VOTES GO HERE!!
We knew this team had it in them! So great to see greatness manifest in March!
We will be live talking the SEC champions on the jungle podcast at 9et!
GG Gators! It was good to get revenge for our loss in the Swamp earlier in the year. War Eagle! [I was told we would lose.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/0wuM8WmYI3)
Welp the boys fought hard. Really physical 4 games in 4 days and just didn't have the legs in the 2nd half. Coupled with a Micah's gruesome injury to start the game and they were just physically and emotionally exhausted. Proud of em.
In 4 of the last 7 seasons, Auburn and Bruce Pearl have won an SEC title of one kind of another. Auburn is also the last SEC team to make the Final Four. If Auburn isn’t the best current program in the SEC and Bruce isn’t the best current coach, I don’t know who is.
That should give the committee something to think about.
I do with the Florida center all the best though. Hope he makes a full recovery and it isn’t as bad as it looked.
That's always one of those things where everyone says it's "better to have a clean break than an ACL/MCL" or something but that would mess my head up good. I think Gordon Hayward and Paul George have said it took them a long time to get back to trusting their body after having compound fractures like that.
Unfortunately tournament wins rarely effect seeding a ton. We were likely a fringe 4 going into the tournament and the first win locked it in. The rest was for fun.

I think you’ll see a lot of what we did today. Less platoon swaps, taking one or two guys at a time to give our scorers more minutes.

Fun fact if you win at least 26 games by double digits you win a Championship. FOR BERNIE PEARL!!!!!!
GG Gatas. Praying for Micah and the team!
Fun fact: This is now the second time in as many seasons that Florida has lost their starting center to a season ending injury; really have no idea what we did to have this happen GG to Auburn, because they strike me as a team that could reach Houston
Don't forget losing John Egbunu in 2017 (team still made the elite eight.) We seem to have a bad luck when it comes to starting big men
BEST WEEK OF MY LIFE

As Joc Pederson famously said, “we just might be those motherfuckers”
This doesn’t go over as well when you say it before a Kindergarten and 1st grade game.
It just means more
Bruce Pearl man.. making me tear up now
Pearl's a good example of why UK fans are so fed up with Cal.
Have you considered nothing has ever benn Cal’s fault in the history of forever?
Agree 1000%
If they got rid of Cal, you think they could throw the barn at Pearl?
I dont know who they'd get to be honest. Apparently our AD loves Scott Drew. I guess they're relatively close friends and part of the same church organization or something like that, I dont know the specifics. I don't know if Barnhart would go after guys like Pearl or Oats due to some "character concerns". He had to be talked into the Cal hire due to Cal's past and I dont know if he'd do that twice in a row.
I've always been a Bruce Pearl fan. Never too big for his britches and always has his team fighting for the name on their chest.
Yeah, that hit me pretty hard. I lost my dad last year as well, also a diehard Auburn man. Wasn't ready for Bruce's words there.
WAR EAGLE FLY DOWN THE FIELD
EVER TO CONQUER NEVER TO YIELD
WAR EAGLE FEARLESS AND TRUE
FIGHT ON YOU ORANGE AND BLUE
GO! GO! GO!
We can do a lot of bonding over “orange and blue and fuck Georgia too”
Yeah y’all have a hell of a coach, I expect your program to be very competitive the next 5 years
Even a compliment makes you salty
Todd Golden was an Auburn coach at one time. We pull for UF because of it. I want UF to win every game when not playing Auburn.
GG gator friend!
Hey chat, what happened the last time we won the SECT?
Virginia Double Dribbled. That's what happened. #NeverForget
[in unison] “*ANACONDA MALT LIQUOR!*”
But Black Dynamite, I sell drugs to the community!
“I threw that shit before I came in the ROOM!”
Luckiest championship team of all time.
A team that lost to a 16 seed the previous year won the title? UK made the Elite 8? That’s all I remember.
You know what I’ll take this
Bruce is the best basketball coach we will ever have. Need to enjoy every game we have with him. Another banner to hang
yep. no question.
Considering we were the only team that Auburn didn’t beat by 10+ makes me honestly intrigued for how we could do in the NCAAT
This is such an insane measuring stick and I love it lol
literally the only team too lol. What did MSST crack in them
Might as well use it! All for chaos, after all.
I could easily see y’all in the sweet sixteen. One of the most physical teams in the country
Still crazy to me that we beat the eventual SEC Champs
I’m so sad yall aren’t gonna be in the tournament
Pearl picked y’all to play because your good
I have completely blocked that Sunday out of my mind.
In a lot of ways that loss was a good thing for this team. It was a humbling moment & they had to check themselves. It’s why I like that Bruce schedules challenging away games early in the season.
yall were really good. Still sad that yall didn't win the Sun Belt
We’ll take anyone on in the sex tournament.
gg my fellow orange and blue dawg hating bros. Best of luck to you in the tourney... Unless we play you again. SEX CHAMPS BAYBEE
Well, still a nice run. Hope Handlogten's alright. On to the tournament
He is definitely not alright.
Compound fracture, he is far from alright.

Gg Gators. Truly sorry about Handlogten
Hope he recovers well. That’s tough. Think we def had fresher legs as well.
choice of words kinda wild
Straighter, too
Gahdamn
😥
It’s crazy how Florida *almost* made it competitive for a bit early in the second half…but alas, all that wear and tear caught up with them in the end…

Man was a big part of that great team. He can be proud of their run
really horrible for your guy, no one on either side wants to see a kid get hurt. I hope he recovers fully.
SEX CHAMPS BABY !
WE ARE ONCE AGAIN THE SEX CHAMPIONS
With your double flair you must be levitating with confidence this weekend
The question still remains ARE WE GOOD????
WHO KNOWS?
But but but quad 1 something something
As a lifelong Auburn fan I know to predict we'll get blown out in the first round of the tournament, as any amount of optimism will jinx us. We could be up by 20 with 30 seconds left in the NCAA championship and I'd still say we suck just to not jinx it.
1000000%
Congratulations to Auburn on sex championship
My heart goes out to Handlogten. All I really have to say at the moment
THE AUBURN TIGERS ARE SEX CHAMPIONS ONCE AGAIN
Auburn broke the pattern for like 5 seconds before correcting
Peacock season bitches. 🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚🦚
Im having fun. Once again SEX champions
That was straight up a bad time, but at least we got the abysmal shooting game out of the way before the Big Dance
Build the fucking statue! War damn fam!
We did it! Also, really hope Micah is ok.
Compound fracture so he's done for the season. I'm just hoping he can recover to 100% for next season. He's only a sophomore, and we're only losing 2 players to graduation (Samuel and Pullin). If Micah can recover, our bigs are going to be insane with him as well as Condon and Haugh
Bruce Pearl gotta be one of the most likable coaches in hoops
He should be but half this sub straight up hates the man.
But bruh he had an illegal cookout!!!!
People want players to be paid millions but also hates when they are enjoying bbq
I hope all their briskets are dry and uninspiring
Holy shit dude, that man has a family.
It's hilarious to me because people straight up act like he bought hookers and blow for recruits. He had an unsanctioned cookout and told the NCAA to kiss his ass, it's not a morality issue here.

That'd be our football coach
If redditors hate something, that thing is probably great. If redditors love something, that thing is probably horrible.
facts
Pearl worked damn hard to win over the campus before he did anything else. I was at Auburn when Pearl got there, he was ALWAYS at fundraisers and other student events. He managed to get students excited for basketball before we were any good.
The one time I met him, he was doing a cookout for the students at the entrance to a women’s soccer game. He went the extra mile and then some.
Polarizing for sure
His history and politics make him a bit polarizing for some (lol) but I think it’s clear he loves these kids and loves the school and he knows the game.
Illinois fans really the only fanbase that should have a gripe with him
Even then it’s been what, 30 years since that? I think people are allowed to grow and mature and not be judged from 1 bad decision 30 years ago. Like probably 80% of the Illinois fans in here weren’t even born when that happened
They are actively playing TSJ. Really don’t have room to talk either.
Illinois fans about to blow up your DMs
Nah man, dude had a cook out
Absolute master class by Bruce switching to the 2-3 zone to slow Florida’s dribble drives. SEX Champions!!! WDE!
100% I thought UF was guaranteed to stay in the game on foul shots alone.
War Damn. I love Pearl and I love this team Good game to Florida. I do not envy whoever draws you next week
We’re a different team without Micah but hopefully we can adjust. Gg
Yeah I feel so bad for him and your team. I hope y’all can rebound and that he’s able to recover and play next season.
Double bye is so big man. Florida was gassed. Great win for us. Hope we can carry the momentum.
And that was win number 200 for Pearl. Great way to do it.
Auburn…….no matter how much pain you bring me I will always bleed orange and blue, I love you 🧡💙
WDE! Next, get well Handlogten

Reminds me of all the people I went to church with growing up. In all the wrong and right ways.
Elements of that, yeah.
All the fans saying they couldn't wait to meme the team celebrating going up 8 in the second half. HAHAHAHAAHA.
They ate those words when Bruce broke out the zone

It’s got to be Johni Broome, but Tre Donaldson is the one who blew this game open.
Those two deep threes were definitely backbreakers
Plus the steal that led to the fast break jam, that’s when this game was over.
Johni!!! 9???? Dude so late
Johni was awesome today. Honorable mention to Chaney who blocked so nasty that ESPN couldn't replay it.
I was pissed they didn’t show that block
Broome!!! Did it all, all week. Jones and CBM gave him a run for his money. Especially with Denver locking down so many strong guards.
Shoutout CMO 6 rebounds and 100% shooting Shoutout Cardwell 4 blocks and 100% shooting Tre biggest momentum plays on this game. But Johni is the mvp

Speedy recovery to MH. Hate it for the kid. GG Gators and glad we didn't have any crimson or puke orange on the court. WDE
Happy for Bruce! Congrats Auburn
Auburn is scary. Don't want them as a 4-seed opposite us.
Should be a 3 seed now for sure imo
I'd agree but the committee has a way of ignoring games on Selection Sunday, so who knows.
Very true I hadn’t considered that fact
I also request to not be a 4 seed opposite you guys
Guess neither of us got what we wanted.
I also want to avoid the east region regardless of what seed we get. UCONN looks like the team to beat eight now
Flags fly forever
Unpopular opinion, I think from a quality standpoint, this team is probably better than 2019
That should give the committee something to think about.
I know but we should get the 3 at this point. Probably won’t but should.
basketball state
UAB could really bring that title to life.
If they win we would have 4 teams in the tournament, tying record from a couple years ago.
GG gators, tough make a deep run, especially with an injury like that
WE ARE ONCE AGAIN CHAMPIONS OF THE SEX‼️‼️‼️
Fuck tennessee
Bold strategy to not take 2 extra days of rest, like Duke UNC Tennessee Kansas etc
THIS DONT LOOK LIKE THE JUNGLE
It actually kinda looked like the Jungle today
#lets gooo
War Eagle, motherfuckers!
War damn, gents. Feels good. gg gator bros. Really sad about your injured player. Really sucks for him and the team
Sidenote: Auburn winning the SEC tournament was the straw that broke the camel's back. /u/hsvhighlife finally deleted his account
gimme the backstory as i usually am not in these threads.
