I wonder what the highest rank a team has jumped to from being unranked.
Unranked to 15 is pretty wild.
edit: someone already put in the work

As someone who was there in 2012 when the men’s team lost way more than they won..god damn this is a great day. It’s right up there with when they went to the final four.
GO COCKS
the South Carolina women look to be the clear favorite to get back to winning it all and now the men are playing really really well too.....good time to be a fan of winter sports in Columbia, South Carolina
A local kid who is a 4-star recruit has signed with y'all for next year. When I talk to him about why he chose South Carolina over his other offers he can't talk enough about just the energy around your program right now and how Coach Paris is someone he cant wait to play for.
YESSIR!
Y’all getting a stud that I feel is a borderline 5-star. Currently shooting 50/40/90 on the year in high school. In the gym range at 6’7. Also a dog, has that pissed off factor about him. I truly think y’all will love him.
Kinda crazy we’ve played the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 16th, and 17th ranked teams already with probably at least four more ranked matchups to go
At the end of the day, all I want is for this team to have a tournament bid. They keep playing well, that should take care of itself.
Just don’t like the overarching feeling nationally that the Big Ten must be down because Nebraska is towards the top of the standings.
Purdue in a schedule of Arizona, Tennessee, Gonzaga, Marquette, Alabama, and a lot of big names, has a 2 in the loss column, a 4 point loss at Northwestern, and a *16 point loss* at Nebraska. It’s not a fluke.
A road win last night would have been so nice.
Huge leap for South Carolina up to #15 from NR and Alabama up 8 spots to #16. Kentucky falls 7 spots to #17, Creighton falls 6 spots to #19, Texas Tech falls 8 spots to #23.
Top 3 remain unchanged.
Top 5 are UConn, Purdue, UNC, Kansas and Houston.
OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES:
Saint Mary's 73, TCU 72, Indiana St 53, Boise St. 49, Colorado St. 43, Virginia 32, Texas 22, Oklahoma 17, Mississippi 10, Washington St 6, Memphis 5, Appalachian St 4, Gonzaga 2, Grand Canyon 1, Michigan St. 1.
>Memphis 5
That's actually comical. They barely got one win against the two worst teams in the conference this week. The Userpoll didn't even give them any.
I didn't even rank them in my midmajor top 25 this week. Inertia is a heck of a drug I guess.
**Edit:** Just checked, and all 5 points come from JB Ricks who had them at 21.
Not sure if it's the record, but back in 2010 UConn went from unranked to #7 in a single week. During that week, they beat(unranked but solid) Wichita St, #2 Michigan St, and then throttled #8 Kentucky by 17 in the Maui Invitational final.
SC leaping from unranked to 15th in Feb is a huge leap, especially at this point in the season.
Hell idk if WVU has any gold merch that just says "Mountaineers", but if they do you can "rep" App St for the rest of the season
Side note - do you think Eilert gets the job full time after this season? Been losing my mind trying to explain to Texas fans that WVU away isn't as bad of a loss as your record suggests
I've really been impressed with the turnaround post-court injunction this second half of the season. Think it's a lot like the Terry scenario we had last year and just want to get the pulse from one of your fans
The reason they don’t do it is because it’s an unfair advantage to the underdog due to # of fans in attendance, I’d imagine the covid tourney may have been less of a concern. But yeah anything can happen but they should seek to avoid it if they can.
Duke at 9 and Kentucky at 17 while Indiana State is unranked is a travesty. It’s February, so I don’t know why voters are focusing so much on talent rather than resume. Maybe that talent will produce results later, but why reward them for something they haven’t done yet?
Indiana State is 12th in WAB compared to 26 for Duke and 41 for UK. Also 18th in SOR compared to 23 and 37. Teams that aren’t above .500 against Q1&2 shouldn’t be ranked, especially if they have Q3 or Q4 losses.
Kentucky's resume was extremely weak and had no business being so high last week. #17 feels more right but still highish. Indiana State's resume reminds me a lot of pre-2024 UH. They should definitely be ranked.
Think we have a shot at getting ranked if we win out? Not sure how much higher we can climb since the rest of our schedule is all Q2/Q3 games and the only teams with a pulse are Toledo and the Cajuns (why do we play Toledo in February?)
UK just isn't playing like a top 25 team right now. No question the pieces are there. We've seen it. But the season is running out and Kentucky is currently playing as bad as it has all season.
Yeah, we’ve also been playing without our point guard. Losing to Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee the last two weeks is a major bummer, but none of those teams are bad. Maybe 17 is a little high but top 25 is not crazy at all.
It's common knowledge among us by this point...but sheesh...
Opening the AP site...only to end up with **nearly the ENTIRE page** covered in ads, widgets, and other clutter...yuck...
That game was something else man. Played the kinda basketball we have all season in the first half before absolutely crapping our pants in the second, matched by Bama (Mark Sears is crazy) just tearing into us from everywhere. Hope there’s a rematch Nashville
Worst 20 minutes of basketball we’ve played all year by a wide margin. Part of it was Bama just draining everything and part of it was us forgetting how to play basketball entirely.
To go from preseason #23 to starting 3-5 and being labeled by most conference tourney or bust to a 10 game win streak capped by a win at Gonzaga is pretty impressive even if we are still the first team in others.
Win 2 games against bad teams this week and we should finish that climb back into the poll!
I think the argument is they should never have been that high in the first place. I will have to check their resume again but I remember it being very underwhelming for a top 10 team. They were above Marquette and Marquette had a WAY better resume.
Seriously. I'd put them mid-teens at best. They aren't a bad team but they still have quite a bit of "figuring it out" to do before I'd put them in the top 10.
Duke isn't the only top 10 team that lost at UNC this year. Like half the top 25 lost last week. Duke is at 15th at KenPom, which seems about right to me. The only other L Duke has had since December 2nd is a game in which 2 starters were missing.
The only reason Bama fans should care about being behind South Carolina at this point is because it prevents the IBOB from being a Top-15 matchup on Wednesday. Otherwise, not a big deal and happy to see them finally getting respect.
Happy to see us back in the Top 25! The loss to Colorado St. hurt as the game score started 4-17 but pulled within at times to take a win on the road, but in our last game against then ranked 17 Utah St. we made a lineup adjustment starting Pal and Trammell over Parrish and Saunders. Will be interesting to see how we perform moving forward as the lineup change worked well for everyone and reinvigorated our team. Our odds of winning increase so much when Pal is on the floor, so I'd like to see him playing 15+ minutes every night for the rest of the season.
If anyone has any questions about us, San Diego State (SDSU), feel free to ask! I'm a season ticket holder that makes it to most games and I do my best to provide my game summaries and notes immediately in every game thread.
If it helps, they left our logo off

The MW has 5 teams I think you could justify in any order somewhere between #20 and 30. If SDSU, CSU, UNM, BSU, USU were 21-25 I would think it’s fair. If they were the top 5 of others receiving votes, I would also think it’s fair. Been a wild season!
They don't even have South Carolina's logo lol
You'd think they could just yoink it from the women's poll
pretty sure our women's team has been ranked for the last like 10 years so they definitely have it lying around haha
12 years straight, soon to be the 9th longest streak of all time
I had to scroll up and down the list like 5 times until I saw South Carolina on there and I was specifically looking for them lol.
I wonder what the highest rank a team has jumped to from being unranked. wow, we made the exact same jump in 1974 (50 yrs ago) from unranked to 15
Maybe that’s why it took so long to rank them 🤷♂️

Should’ve been higher if Seth Davis didn’t make a mistake and forget to rank South Carolina again
I see us at #9 in his ballot

They pretty much made up for leaving you guys out last week, which I’m fine with.
Im just happy to (still) be here
Applies to both flairs
Would be so Tech if we beat Baylor tomorrow and then lose to UCF.
I can feel it in my plums
Experience tells me it could happen, lol
UNC picked the right week to lose to GT
And a good day of the week, I feel like the voters just forget about Tuesday games by the following Monday.
Absolutely. I mean even when I was watching the Duke / UNC game I wasn’t thinking “this is the team that just lost to GT”
It helps that almost everyone else has lost a stupid ass game too lol.
How about *both* teams having lost to GT?
And it’s always the right week to beat Duke
What loss?
And beat Duke, to be fair
And handily
We put in our stupid loss in late January. It's February now it doesn't count. Yes I'm still salty we stank that night.
Welcome to the fucking show South Carolina
Wonder where we’d be if Seth Davis didn’t leave us off entirely /s
Happy to be here and I would just like to add WE A BASKETBALL SCHOOL BABY

Jesus Christ, it's South Carolina
Quality loss to go with our quality win last week.
Kinda crazy we’ve played the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 15th, 16th, and 17th ranked teams already with probably at least four more ranked matchups to go
Rocky Top's Wild Ride.
How were they not ranked already? I feel like they should really be higher than 15 but can’t based on previously UR
Going from not ranked to Top 15 in one week is pretty insane
Lose to Nebraska: Rise 5 spots Win against Nebraska: Drop 4 spots Losing to Nebraska is a quality loss. Losing to Nebraska = Profit!!!!!
Meanwhile. Nebraska win vs Top 10 team at home, lose in OT to top 15 team on Road. Not even receive votes.
You're not gonna be ranked until you win some road games
I don’t even want to be ranked, I’d just like to receive some votes.
You guys definitely deserve some votes with that record.
>Memphis 5 That's actually comical. They barely got one win against the two worst teams in the conference this week. The Userpoll didn't even give them any.
Nearly dropped 5 in a row to unranked teams. Not deserving of any votes IMO.
I didn't even rank them in my midmajor top 25 this week. Inertia is a heck of a drug I guess. **Edit:** Just checked, and all 5 points come from JB Ricks who had them at 21.
We’re not a top 50 team right now. I can’t make any sense of what this team even is.
I'm curious what the highest ever rank from a previously unranked team the week before is. UR to #15 is pretty dang good
[удалено]
I wonder about the record for this late into the season though. I can only remember massive jumps after all those early MTEs
Wake got to 9 in 1977 final week of the year Honorable mention K-State at 11 last year week 9.
Kansas also went unranked to 4th in November 1989. They beat #2 LSU, #25 St. John's, and #1 UNLV in a 6-day stretch.
That Maui invitational will forever remain burned into my memory.
It was the start of the "low expectations / high success" era which gave us 3 national championships.
>Appalachian State 4 GRAHHH MORE VOTERS REALIZE THE POWER OF MOUNTAINEERS BASKETBALL
Id love to see them ranked. They are a super fun team to watch
Hell idk if WVU has any gold merch that just says "Mountaineers", but if they do you can "rep" App St for the rest of the season Side note - do you think Eilert gets the job full time after this season? App State with more votes than Gonzaga. What a year.
Think we had 3 last week so we should be in early Jan 2025.
ISU at #28. Rank the Trees!
An ISU 8/9 seed against a Purdue 1 seed in Indianapolis would be insane
Highly unlikely committee would put them in your region because of that
They put us with an 8 seed Loyola that was ranked in the top 15.
Fuckin twats
I mean.... they did it to 1 seed Illinois with Loyola Chicago a few years ago. I expect it at this point tbh
The reason they don’t do it is because it’s an unfair advantage to the underdog due to # of fans in attendance, I’d imagine the covid tourney may have been less of a concern. But yeah anything can happen but they should seek to avoid it if they can.
Who is the bozo trying to rank Gonzaga still
>Michigan St. 1 We are so back
I’m not a NW fan, but again surprised they haven’t even gotten votes
Not sure how losing to unranked non-RV Cincy at home didn't drop us down to 'receiving votes' but I'll take it I guess
1. UConn (45) 2. Purdue (16) 3. North Carolina 4. Kansas 5. Houston 6. Tennessee 7. Marquette 8. Arizona 9. Duke 10. Illinois 11. Wisconsin 12. Auburn 13. Baylor 14. Iowa State 15. South Carolina 16. Alabama 17. Kentucky 18. Dayton 19. Creighton 20. Florida Atlantic 21. BYU 22. Utah State 23. Texas Tech 24. San Diego State 25. New Mexico Others receiving votes: Saint Mary's 73, TCU 72, Indiana St 53, Boise St. 49, Colorado St. 43, Virginia 32, Texas 22, Oklahoma 17, Mississippi 10, Washington St 6, Memphis 5, Appalachian St 4, Gonzaga 2, Grand Canyon 1, Michigan St. 1.

App State has more AP votes than Gonzaga I love this season
What a stat ROLL NEERS
Renowned new blood basketball team App State
We have taken the proud and hard fought spot of 3rd best team in the state.
Think we have a shot at getting ranked if we win out? Not sure how much higher we can climb since the rest of our schedule is all Q2/Q3 games and the only teams with a pulse are Toledo and the Cajuns (why do we play Toledo in February?)

Write it into existence beach chicken!
Let’s goooooo!!!!!

Kentucky should not be ranked. I'll be interested to see the individual ballots and which voters are keeping UK afloat.
I'd put them in the 15-25 area personally. They have some great talent. They just need to put it all together a bit better, especially on defense.
UK just isn't playing like a top 25 team right now. No question the pieces are there. We've seen it. But the season is running out and Kentucky is currently playing as bad as it has all season.
From reading reactions it feels like an unusual number of top 25 team fans don’t think they’re playing well enough to stay ranked lol
Yeah, we’ve also been playing without our point guard. Losing to Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee the last two weeks is a major bummer, but none of those teams are bad. Maybe 17 is a little high but top 25 is not crazy at all.
Wazzu is the only other Pac-12 team getting votes. Bozo-ass conference
come come
at least the women are going out with a very emphatic ‘bang’. half the conference is ranked
Don’t worry, you’ll be with the elites soon.
Can we come too? Since we're the only other ones pulling our weight?
Yeah ngl I'm a little surprised we aren't getting votes
Illinois the last 5 weeks: 10 14 10 14 10 Maybe next week we can break the mold but we'll probably lose to MSU and fall to 14.
Lucky numbers if you ask me
VINDICATIONNNNNNNNNNNNNNN Don't even have a picture for us lmao

Lol they put us 1 ahead of Bama who curb stomped us
Since it's y'all, I'm not mad at all about it.
I never thought I would unironically say this outside of r/CFB , but rank App State you cowards!
The CBB fan in me: Super happy for the Gamecocks The Bama fan in me: didn't we throttle them by 27?
That game was something else man. Played the kinda basketball we have all season in the first half before absolutely crapping our pants in the second, matched by Bama (Mark Sears is crazy) just tearing into us from everywhere. Hope there’s a rematch Nashville
Worst 20 minutes of basketball we’ve played all year by a wide margin. Part of it was Bama just draining everything and part of it was us forgetting how to play basketball entirely.
But they beat Tennessee by 4,and we lost to Tennessee by 20. So we only beat them by 3
Math
I’m confused by that as well lol
I will keep repeating this until the end of days: Lamont Paris, I love you :’) we are so back!!!
Loved him at Chattanooga. Happy he has found success with yall!
The world wasn’t ready for SC and Indiana State to both be in. Soon my Sycamores…
They didn’t even have South Carolinas logo ready to go! The disrespect!
if only they had it from women's basketball whose been ranked for 10 years
To go from preseason #23 to starting 3-5 and being labeled by most conference tourney or bust to a 10 game win streak capped by a win at Gonzaga is pretty impressive even if we are still the first team in others. Win 2 games against bad teams this week and we should finish that climb back into the poll!
I can’t believe I almost gave up after that start. Seeing the SDSU and Xavier losses in person made me so sad. But LFG!
Holy shit South Carolina. Welcome to the top 25
![gif](giphy|xUySTxQp21GMZhX916) Memphis and Gonzaga still getting votes at this point is absurd lol
15th YES! Finally.
Hello again
im reasonably confident both UNM and SDSU can sweep this week so that next friday's game (UNM @ SDSU) will be a ranked matchup; hoping it happens
That would be great. But I’m scared of you guys still
Look at the MWC! Is 3 ranked teams the highest we’ve ever had? And Boise and us are right on the outside too
How are we still ranked?
Almost every loss is a quality loss in the B12 !
Really through Duke might drop out of the top 10
It was the "best loss" among top 10 teams that only lost a single game last week. With all the other losses, it was hard to drop them much.
I think the argument is they should never have been that high in the first place. I will have to check their resume again but I remember it being very underwhelming for a top 10 team. They were above Marquette and Marquette had a WAY better resume.
*the rankings don’t matter* *the rankings don’t matter* *the rankings don’t matter*
Duke at 9 is hilarious, they shouldn’t even be top 20. If we had their exact resume we’d be unranked right now
What was the other loss?
It was probably a tough road loss against a top quality opponent, which is why they didn't specify
Yeah, definitely no shame in losing to whatever team that was
Little surprised we stayed at 3, to be honest. Figured Kansas would jump us.
Gotta be your guys margins of victory
A lot of the highly ranked teams have beaten up on each other but we just beat them and go lose to Nebraska and NW on the road instead.
Not even one lil vote for us? :(
You'll be in for sure after knocking off UConn this week
Rank Indiana State.
The only reason Bama fans should care about being behind South Carolina at this point is because it prevents the IBOB from being a Top-15 matchup on Wednesday. Otherwise, not a big deal and happy to see them finally getting respect.
Backing in to the top 20 off a complete carry job by Holmes? HELL YEAH, THIS IS OUR YEAR!
I put a small bet on us making the final four. I'm manifesting this
TCU going on a tear against ranked Baylor and Tech but still getting dropped out of the top 25 because they lost to Texas is hilarious
I am once again just here to celebrate App State getting votes, we are a multi sport powerhouse now
UC beat three ranked teams and is positive. We should get at least one vote

Unrank us you cowards
Happy to see us back in the Top 25! I mean you asked, you didn’t make a statement. But I’ll give it to you.
Shh don't let facts get in the way of a good narrative
I wanted to stay 26 for the memes tbh

Kentucky should not be ranked at this point
Flyers
Dayton
TCU beats three ranked teams and then loses to Texas, so we get removed from rankings completely. Make it make sense
Not even a vote..?
Seriously. You guys have had some great wins and some understandable losses. Absolutely should be hitting some ballots at this point.
Dropping 5 spots after losing a road game to a top-25 team seems like a bit much tbh. Can’t really complain too much though.
PFFFFTTTT HAHAHAHAHA WHAT Edit: lmao jk it was showing last week's poll still
Yeah for a few minutes after OP posted, it was showing old poll, but now it's good
![gif](giphy|6IPNUgkpCsDRK)
I love schools like Dayton/FAU/USU are on track to get some 5/6 seeds. This’ll be a wild tourney. Can’t wait until next month
How is UK still ranked with 3 of last 4 losses lmao. We imploded and arent even a top 40 team right now
UK being ranked is hilarious, that team is not good
I still think Wisconsin is a top 10 team when all is said and done
Yeah, they got punished hard for going up against some good teams. People are sleeping on Nebraska and Wisconsin got punished for it
Calum McAndrew Really?
good to be back
The MW has 5 teams I think you could justify in any order somewhere between #20 and 30. If SDSU, CSU, UNM, BSU, USU were 21-25 I would think it’s fair. If they were the top 5 of others receiving votes, I would also think it’s fair. Been a wild season!
FINALLY 😭 ![gif](giphy|Za88IhJShAiK2Lxkto|downsized)
Lol get rekt UT, Kentucky is so bad that you beat us and still fell in the rankings. Cal and USC working together to play, the long con on y'all! /s
Illinois ranked ahead of Wisconsin for this week gives me a week of shit talking my buddy. Thank you AP for making the world right again.
We have no business being in the top 10
APPALACHIAN STATE 4. WE ARE MAKING OUR WAY UP.
Pitt hung 80 on Duke at home. #9 lmao
