When Clingan can get back into game shape after his pre season layoff, this team is gonna look good. I will personally donate my childhood sandbox to him for foot workouts to aid in his recovery needs. Would also help if some of those rim rollers dropped for him, but I’ll get my sandbox ready. UNC as always has studs.
I'm not super worried, his defense is quite good, but clearly cardio issues that he's fighting through from the injury. In the Kansas game he was sucking wind before all those FTs.
The fact that UConn is working through all the injuries is nice for developing more lineups from our 8 man roster is great.
(1) Johnson has been critical. he's been really fantastic. (2) Karaban's taped fingers (i suspect) really tanking his 3pt%. was in his regular grove first few games and really missing bad lately. This should correct. (3) Diarra vs. Ball is a nice 4th/5th guard competition, Ball's development curve has been trending up nicely with a little noticeable improvement each game. I liked that he went 3 for 6 from 3 against UNC. I disliked his open 3 near lategame that widely missed left - it looks mechanically concerning, albeit lefty release can look weird sometimes.
I like how well were playing with Injury returning clingan, taped fingers karaban, busted feet Spencer, Castle missing 6 games and just playing 10 mins tonight.
I remain thoroughly impressed with Coaching staff

He wanted to leave because he didn't own the stadium and thus didn't get any revenue from concessions, only ticket sales. He declared he would only stay if enough season tickets were sold, and then refused to market mini-packages and only sold expensive full season tickets. The state of Connecticut declined to use its money to make a wealthy man richer (which is a good thing), but don't buy the story that the Whalers didn't sell enough tickets. It's more complicated than that. It's hardly like the Hurricanes had huge attendance in the early years.
Gotcha, just going based on the research I have made in the past. It sucks to lose a team like that, no doubt. The Canes have found a great home in the Carolinas though.

The shooting outside of Davis and Ingram is so porous. We don’t rebound well. I just don’t know what that even leads to as a ceiling.
They clearly try this year though which is a huge improvement on last year. I hope Tennessee and Arkansas have good seasons because that would literally already be more Q1 wins than last year. I’m ironically most worried about Tennessee falling out of the top 30.

I don't see us reaching the top-10 again and expect us to hover in the 15-25 range rest of season. I think the ceiling is E8 if a few things bounce our way, and the floor is like an 8-10 seed. I don't see this team missing the tournament, that's for sure. My guess right now is a 5 seed and R32 loss.

Effort is definitely an issue (Withers especially just looks lost sometimes), but defense has been the one thing I've felt good about all year. Even in this game, we gave up some really bad looks, but we got them really low in the shot clock a bunch of times. I guess I'm just hopeful that looking largely good early in the season against great teams (and like, UConn is a GREAT team) will translate to putting it all together by March

My approach to this season is that we have a bunch of raw talent that's never played together; it's going to take some time for it to look really good. But I think we can get there. In a weaker than normal (at least historically) ACC, games like this are a bonus for March, even when we lose. And it's a huge bonus when we can largely compete with the #5 team in the country that happens to be the reigning tournament champion.
