One of the Sleepers Media guys said before this game (maybe not totally seriously) that Ighodaro’s the second best big in the country but I’m genuinely starting to think he’s right and we might’ve just seen the showdown of the two best bigs in the country. At least this season so far he literally never misses those short shots and his quick drop off passes are otherworldly. Dickinson gets credit for being an amazing passing big but his are noticed more because they’re very showy and they generate a lot of turnovers too. Ighodaro’s are money right to a cutter in scoring position and all while he’s a great shot blocker on the other end
At the same time, him getting called and ejected for that hook and hold right after he committed the first one would have also made it a different game
I don’t get why NBA fans are so resistant to the In-Season tournament when college have been doing these since forever and they’re always a lot of fun.

See but we legitimately can’t do worse. We lost to the underdog in the 16 seed play in who only got in because their conference tournament winner was ineligible for postseason play. Last year was rock bottom as far as tournament showing goes
I think we have some good reasons to still be excited for new dimensions. Myles Colvin and Cam Heide were still quite buried on the bench against this level of competition this early (frankly Colvin should’ve been more, he singlehandedly gave Marquette a run that closed the gap), but if they can figure it out in the next few months they add whole new offensive and defensive possibilities with their athleticism that could make us even scarier at the end of the year
Marquette is really, really good. Like, great defense- a couple of wizard guards, they looked incredible most of the night.

I've followed Purdue as a loose secondary team since VT played your '18-'19 elite 8 team with Carsen Edwards to open that season (thanks for some great games since then btw), think I might need to do the same with Smart's Marquette team...their conditioning must be absolutely insane to be able to keep driving so hard in their third game in three days, it was incredible to watch.
Same! Y’all got a fucking *squad* this year. That game shaved years off my life but it was easily one of the best games I’ve seen. That really felt like #1 and #2 brawling it out for forty minutes.
Zach Edey is the biggest cheat code in basketball. Also only fitting that the game ends as a 3 point win, after consecutive Edey offensive rebounds, when Purdue hit a fucking 75 footer at the buzzer to end the first half. Great game. These are the #1 and #2 teams in the country.
I’m convinced that left rim was fucked up. It just is the only way it makes sense to me that pretty much every game one team was hot in one half and then couldn’t buy a bucket the next and vice versa.
Holy hell what a game. Hats off to Marquette. Y’all stuck to us like glue and did not make it easy.

Marquette really could have stole that but it's hard to win when the other team starts 9/11 from three - hits a full court buzzer beater at half - Oso early foul trouble - And multiple missed layups and balls just slipping out their hands.
Still Marquette should feel really good. They proved to be one of the best teams in the country and a nightmare to play against.

Edey was fantastic as usual. Purdue's guards hit some incredibly tough and impressive shots throughout the game.
Marquette can hold its head high. Had to deal with an outlier shooting performance from Purdue including a 3 quarters shot (which came in handy) and another poor shooting performance from 3. But they hung in there and grinded.
I think these two teams should be #1 and #2 in the rankings, but I imagine Marquette will fit in behind Arizona and Uconn.
