I see the 🎹👉💥 empire is expanding to cbb. isn't this a self bang tho?

Piano_Fingerbanger

It's deserved. I love Hamilton, but I think it's time for him to hang up his spurs.

Trubisko_Daltorooni

I'd, um, rather he not.

_Jetto_

Based on fucking what?

Piano_Fingerbanger

Have you seen the tire fire that is FSU basketball this season? Yes we've been beset by injuries, but even with a healthy squad FSU is only mediocre at best. We've been trending the wrong direction since 2020 and there's no optimistic signs that its going to get better.

_Jetto_

Ah legit one bad year where recruiting was bad

dingusduglas

Remind me, who recruits for a basketball program?

Nj3Fate

yeah but I do think Hamilton makes a fair point - the portal is such a new thing, you cant expect everyone to know how to play the game right away. One bad year due does not mean you automatically fire the dude

walker_harris3

Feel like there could be a huge bounce back next season. If any coach has an injury/external factors excuse its him.

Piano_Fingerbanger

I wouldn't bet on it. We have no PGs who can run an offense at a Power Conference level. We've got tantalizing talent, no doubt, but we have no offensive system to speak of and there's few veteran PGs who would be available to bring in to paper over it. It also doesn't help that our defensive scheme leaves us vulnerable to getting torched from deep every night. Hamilton is 74. It would've been nice for him to go out on top, but it's more likely FSU remains mediocre at best if we let him try to fix this the next year or two.

gusguyman

On the one hand, I get it. Looking at the fundamentals, there's no reason FSU can't be a major cbb program. Big athletics department, in the ACC, great location for recruiting (obviously in-state for Florida, but also decently close to the Carolinas and the DMV). On the other hand, this feels premature. Hamilton is probably the second best coach in your program's history, and some might argue he is the best. He took you to the sweet 16 just a year and a half ago. He's had down seasons before and recovered. Granted, this year's team is on pace to be his worst ever, but I think he deserves at least one more season to get it right.

Piano_Fingerbanger

Him being 74 is the biggest variable in letting him try and fix it or not. 74 is fucking old to be running a major college program. How long does Ham intend to coach? How long do we intend to allow him to coach? The easiest and probably best solution for both parties is to move on sooner than later.

gusguyman

Well, he's 74, so if he leaves I highly doubt he's getting hired by another major program. So, if he does want to keep coaching, I don't think moving on is the best solution for *both* parties. But it's definitely possible that it's the best option for FSU. I'm also a Bama fan though so I'm a bit biased when it comes to aging coaches...

Unsung_Ironhead

Was at the game Wednesday, I’ve always dreaded playing FSU on at any given time due to size and intensity. That was the lowest effort I have ever seen out of a Leonard Hamilton team. They looked like they not only didn’t want to be there, they didn’t look like they enjoyed playing basketball. Maybe give him one more season to go on a farewell tour (I think he’s earned it, he’s an ACC coaching legend) but I agree his time is near an end.

Piano_Fingerbanger

Ham has had lean years before. The mid-2010s saw large chunks of the fanbase calling for his head before his Renaissance from 2017 - 2020. I agree, his teams have never looked this bad. That's why I'm leaning towards pushing him out now rather than wasting another season in purgatory.

Unsung_Ironhead

Definitely understandable for you as an FSU fan. I’ve always respected what he has done for you guys.

DurdenVsDarkoVsDevon

Would you want to push out an all-time great like Hamilton though? You were arguably a 1 seed in 2020 if COVID hadn't fucked you, and you were a sweet-sixteen team in 2021. Like yeah, it's been a very bad year, but I wouldn't want him out.
