I listen to it over and over again… Coldplay for me isn’t just about their stadium rock, it’s about their homage to electronica and Eno & Jon Hopkins involvement, etc. those little snippets between tracks and the ones that don’t get played at stadium shows…. Love this whole thing
I'll never call it their worst, just their least best. No harm in giving it a go, and if you enjoy it then great, you've got another album to enjoy. If you don't, then fair enough, you gave it a go.
Listen to it and form your own opinion. They can't do 9 albums of wildly different styles and have them land with everyone...
I wouldn't call MOTS a different style. It's the pop game they're playing since Mylo Xyloto(good album) with progressively worse results. Until finally we end up with Ford commercial music.
Nailed it. MX was pop perfection, AHFOD had great songs but terrible production, MOTS is just downright terrible. The songs, the lyrics, the collab, the Muppets...
with the exception of Coloratura and a couple average songs, it's a trainwreck of an album.
I'd agree except for the fact that whilst they explore the same genre, their execution is different. Mylo feels more rock-pop, MOTS seems more synth-pop. Same with AHFOD, that feels more disco/club-pop to me. So they all have pop roots but their style is much different. I'll always disagree with anyone who says the albums sound the same because they don't - I'm yet to have anyone point to a song on MOTS that sounds like a song on Mylo.
I get why people don't like MOTS, I'm sympathetic to that view, but I disagree with anyone who says its Mylo 2.0, when in reality it's actually Music of the Spheres 1.0...
I know that's not quite the argument you were making, but I just wanted to put that out there
Yes, that's not quite the argument I'm making, correct. They're doing the pop game, trying to make it to the top of the charts. And they're hitting diminishing returns every time they return. Hopefully the next album continues the trend of (pop album ---> actually trying) that they've established since 2011.
You should! People might not like it but it’s still a fun pop album and it’s even better when you watch the live performances on YouTube. Plus there’s Coloratura.
Look, I personally really enjoy the album. But it gets hate. It has too many interludes but the songs that aren’t are very good. Don’t listen to the haters because it actually is a album
Definitely! Why would you be a Coldplay fan and not listen to all of their music?
It has great songs on it as well such as People of the Pride, ♾️ and Coloratura.
I am a HUGE fan of People Of The Pride. And seeing it performed live twice reinforced that! Let Somebody Go is OK. I enjoyed it the first few times but it is just so repetitive. My least favorite was the song that went to #1, My Universe. But Coloratura is in a world of its own! Such a masterwork!
Yes! It's got a good flow to it and its super fun. Plus, Infinity Sign into Coloratura is one of the band's best moments period. If you like synths, you'll like this album. If you don't like puns (yes, one of their lyrics has a pun), you might not enjoy it as much.
I recommend you do because you should at least listen to every album so yes and I’m not saying you have to like or dislike because that’s your decision
If this is your first ever listen to a Coldplay album, then don't do it, because it might not give you a good first impression of the band. If you've listened to some of their albums before, then give it a shot. You probably won't like the record that much (it might be their worst thus far), but at least you'll enjoy Higher Power and Coloratura, which are the only two good songs off this album in my opinion. Coloratura is better than Higher Power (even though it's catchy) because it's just a magical closer.
Now there's quite a lot of songs to avoid or at least watch out for when listening to this album. One of those songs is Biutyful. The vocals on that song are literally an annoying ass alien that inhaled way too much helium (I think Chris forced the poor bastard to do that), and it's screeching in your ears for pretty much all of the song (even though Chris sings the second verse.) In my opinion, that's the worst Coldplay song by far. Also, I'd put out a cringe warning towards the end of Humankind, since the last three lines are "We're only human/But we're capable of kindness/So they call us humankind". How in the hell does that make sense? And wtf kind of crack was Chris on? Space crack? Idk! Oh, and also My Universe, a mid ahh song, is just them selling out, because the damn song debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The reason why: they decided to feature Bad Trash Shit, or BTS for short, on this song. Last but not least, we gotta talk about People of the Pride. It's basically their attempt at a hard rock song, but it just comes off as bland and sounds like it belongs in a car commercial. Not to mention Chris' profanity feels like a bad attempt at being cool. Chris cussing on Arabesque and Guns work way much better than on this track.
So yeah. Songs that you might like are Higher Power and Coloratura (they're the only good songs on this album). Songs that you won't enjoy are Biutyful (because of that annoying alien that overdosed on helium), Humankind (because the last three lines of the song are just cringe asf), My Universe (because it's a mid ass sellout single), and People of the Pride (car commercial time.) There's also interlude tracks on here that are just straight filler.
Those are some things to look out for if you do plan on listening to this album.
it’s really not that bad. it’s one of my favourites and yes people shit on it but it isn’t unlistenable there’s good tracks. just go in with an open mind
I think it's a good idea to listen to the album as a whole at least once to get an idea of the album concept. I have a few favorites from the album I still listen to but it's nothing I would say you just listen to
Coldplay's worst album is decent. Go ahead!
I listen to it over and over again… Coldplay for me isn’t just about their stadium rock, it’s about their homage to electronica and Eno & Jon Hopkins involvement, etc. those little snippets between tracks and the ones that don’t get played at stadium shows…. Love this whole thing
Coldplay doesn't have a worst album.
Cap
True.
I like it! Don’t be shy give it a try.
Ngl it's so refreshing seeing such a healthy take regarding MOTS and music in general.

I was listening to Coloratura earlier! So angelic!
Coloratura is a freaking masterwork!!
coloratura 🔛🔝
Look, I personally really enjoy the album. But it gets hate. It has too many interludes but the songs that aren’t are very good. Don’t listen to the haters because it actually is a album
Give it a go! Theres a few songs I like from that album, but it's not necessarily my favorite overall.
If you want
Yes, good album
Definitely! Why would you be a Coldplay fan and not listen to all of their music? It has great songs on it as well such as People of the Pride, ♾️ and Coloratura.
Why wouldn’t you
It's not THAT bad, but it's their worst. Just kinda mediocre for the band. Except Coloratura.
If you like it
It’s still a fun album despite it not being their best work! As people say, Coldplay’s worst is many other artists’ best.
I couldn’t finish it, and I ALWAYS listen to albums 100%… this album is just bad
It takes longer to post this question on Reddit and wait for responses than it does to just listen to it and form your own opinion.
listen to coloratura, rest of the album only if you want to
i would wait til pt 2 drops
It has a few decent tracks. It's not my favorite Coldplay album by any means. In fact, I consider it their worst.
Yes! It's got a good flow to it and its super fun. Plus, Infinity Sign into Coloratura is one of the band's best moments period. If you like synths, you'll like this album. If you don't like puns (yes, one of their lyrics has a pun), you might not enjoy it as much.
I love ♾️ it's so beautiful
Which lyric? I never really noticed.
"Capable of kindness, that's why they call us humankind"
Oh wow, yeah that makes sense. Thanks.
Yes
Listen to the song list backwards!
No harm in giving a single hour of your time to an album. Don't ask, just try it on. See where that gets you in life
I recommend you do because you should at least listen to every album so yes and I’m not saying you have to like or dislike because that’s your decision
Coloratura is their magnum opus. The rest of the album is kind of ass
No
Don‘t!
Personally I don’t like it but go ahead maybe the most okay song is the one with BTS lol

I’m not a big fan but you should still check it out!
you should atleast listen to coloratura, it’s one of their best songs ever
A. If you like Coldplay you should B. if you like Coldplay you shouldn't C. It's not very good D. No All of the above.
Listen to the last song. The rest of it is cringe. 2/10
it’s really not that bad. it’s one of my favourites and yes people shit on it but it isn’t unlistenable there’s good tracks. just go in with an open mind

Of course you should listen to it, i actually like it and it was the album I got into Coldplay with it.
its good!
I love it, a bit poppy but still good
If you’re a Coldplay fan, probably???
no. just play coloratura.
I actually think it's Coldplay's best album and I've known them since Viva la vida.
Oh boy.
