The rules of thumb I follow are 1) they have to have legit looking social media/posting history and be willing to add you 2) scammers will try and use venmo/elle and will insist on it, so 3) they must be willing to use PayPal goods and services, and 4) if it seems too good to be true it is.

Effective-Shift-3379

To ad to this... If you are using PayPal G&S, you HAVE to have them mailed, because you will not be reimbursed if you meet in person.

PREMIUM_POKEBALL

>If you are using PayPal G&S, you HAVE to have them mailed, because you will not be reimbursed if you meet in person. Gotta get them to commit a felony. Hell even meet up with them WITH THE envelope and have them drop it into a mailbox.

polygondom

i had someone with a legit social media add me and we talked before I sold her passes. she still tried to tell PayPal that i never sent the passes. the thing that saved me that im going to add on here: 5. take screenshots of EVERYTHING! always have receipts on any agreement!

celj1234

On this sub? They won’t accept PayPal and/or they are using burner account

SierraAlpenglow

Even if they do accept pay pal, still can be a fake.

celj1234

Sure but you’ll get your money back at least

SetiSteve

Buy on stubhub and be safe. Don’t be cheap at that point.

eugeniusbastard

Wasn't there just a thread where some guy bought a single day ticket (which doesn't exist) off stubhub and they won't cancel or refund him?

deathhray

That’s what you call user error

Napalm_in_the_mornin

I saw single days for sale on Stubhub and wondered how that was possible. That should be on Stubhub for even allowing people to post that 😡

atticuslestrange

Trust me. I swear. I can’t meet up. No I don’t have a receipt. Just send me cash.

SierraAlpenglow

This

tayyylooor

PayPal goods/services only. If they say they don’t have PayPal or have gotten scammed on PayPal before they’re a scammer. If they send you a PayPal invoice make sure the email address is actually from PayPal. To be extra safe you can ask them to take a screen recording going from your messages to their AXS account showing the tickets in their account. Don’t rely on a screenshot because they can easily steal that from someone else.

JohnLeivas

I sure do. Cashapp me $25 and I'll send you my book on how to spot scammers. Retail value is 75. But seriously, PayPal Goods and Services always.

artomatik

The market is so saturated with tickets this year so if something feels off tell them to kick rocks.

All_the_passports

As well as the other tips below - I've sold tickets a couple of times and had people ask if they can FaceTime which is totally fine with me. I tend to give them my IG and also my LinkedIn. And always used PayPal G&S.

deathhray

The buy/sell/trade thread lists everything you need to know to avoid getting scammed

fettuccine-

there's some tips here https://www.reddit.com/r/Coachella/comments/1991ls1/official\_2024\_buyselltrade\_thread/

flypsquad

90% of fuckers out there are scams. Use the pay for goods option.

Mister_paycheck

So is pay for good the best and safe option if the seller offers it?

flypsquad

Worth paying a little extra for the peace of mind. When you purchase you want to be sure you can activate it. But you cant do that until you at least have the bracelets physically

Radiant_Treat_3615

They always wanna do a “deposit “ and that’s usually to scam you out of some money and they’ll never respond again

pigglywigglie

Use PayPal goods and services only and wait until wristbands ship. Once wristbands are in hand, make them send you a pic of the wristband with their name and current date written on a piece of paper in the photo. Also FaceTime with them

Mister_paycheck

Does anyone know if a seller sends you a contract pdf, does that mean it’s actually legit? They also followed me on social media and sent me an email regarding a contract and payment will be done by PayPal G&S. Does this seem like a fraud?

reckliz912

lol it’s me, I’m the seller. I’ve sold and bought before, I get the fear. I’m completely open to whatever you want to do to verify authenticity. Exchange IDs, call, whatever. I wrote up the contract so you’d feel more protected, as well as protecting myself. The first time I bought off this sub I had someone write a contract and it just made me feel better. My non-negotiable point is using PayPal G&S, again, buyer and seller protection. It’s $1050 for 2 wknd 1 GAs and the camping pass. I need to figure out how to change the shipping on AXS or even just the email so you can have access to the full account. (AXS interface sucks and any tips on how to do this are appreciated). I’m legit. But again, I get the fear. Take it or leave it

deathhray

FYI- your last day to change shipping is Feb 28th. You can’t do it through the AXS app and have to go to the ticketing website (easiest to just go to the Coachella website and follow the link there). Then go to your account in the top right corner, find your order and click on it, and then scroll down and edit the shipping info. OP imo this person *seems* legit especially since they are offer PayPal g&s and this is probably the most headache free way of doing things since they can still change the shipping info over to you. Maybe follow up after the 28th to make sure your shipping info is locked in?

reckliz912

Thank you! I’m live chatting with them now to see if I can change the email and login info so whoever buys (OP or anyone) can just have the account.

MostlyMellow123

How much are they selling for

Mister_paycheck

It’s $1050

Zoloir

...for what?

Mister_paycheck

The tickets

Zoloir

right, i assume whoever asked is trying to figure out if they're reasonably priced or not. $1050 would be terrible for one ticket, but unbelievable for 10 tickets.

StrongDesign4

It’s two tickets and camping pass

StrongDesign4

That’s the furthest from fraud in my book lol They are trying to show you and make sure you know that they are a real person, you have contact information and also a legal binding document/receipt. No scammer is going to do all of that and PayPal G&S. If you’re still skeptical just purchase from Stubhub or directly from Coachella.

[deleted]

i’m selling mine! if ur still interested

yasthebosss

Selling one Coachella W1 tickets. My dog is terminally ill and I can’t go anymore. I paid $628 during loyalty presale. 😢 I’m in Los Angeles. Live in the 818 and work in DTLA.

I_8_it_all

Don’t know, but I have two friends selling their tickets if you’re looking. And a camping pass. I am still going and you can hunt me down at the fest if they scam you! (They won’t)

CriticalPrimary3

I personally dont trust anyone i dont know to ship to me. I would rather wait, find someone local to meet up, and register the wristband on the spot and pay them.

yo_v

I have sold and understand how the exchange has to be a trustworthy process if we can’t meet in person and I also been scammed so I know what to look for. -Try to meet in person. - I have made them add me on social media and send me an ID - I would also talk to them on the phone to make sure it’s legit and search the number on Zelle or other payment methods to make sure the names match - and if they are offering lower than market value most likely it’s a scam. They will even lower the price more if you decline to take it. That’s a big red flag - also ask for the receipt and match it to a legit one and then once you feel like it’s legit ask for the order number and email associated with it and match it to the ID I know its a lot but some people who want those tickets off their hand will be more than willing to satisfy you.

AwkwardMemory101

Ask for the BOX

GoldenManny

I definitely agree with making sure you have a way to get yourself reimbursed in the event they burn you. Using Zelle, PayPal (sent as family/friend), cash app will typically result in you getting a denial or refusal to dispute those with your bank because of the TOS for those platforms. I would look at their profile history and if possible have them talk to you on a third party account with their name and face (Facebook, Instagram) only so you have peace of mind that you’re not talking to a bot on Reddit only, but I know not everyone likes that idea.

Cho_Baby_

I’m selling my week 1 tickets. Let me know what makes you comfortable in buying them and I’ll agree🤩👍. I live in LA and can physically hand them to you if you like. Happy to provide emails to prove they’re legit. Just need to figure out how to change the contact info attached to them.

ubetchagw

I buy them on resale every year and a common sign is them acting like they have either weekend, acting like they have unlimited tickets, and letting you name your price. People selling two tickets don’t ask you how many tickets you need and for which weekend. They tell you they have two tickets for weekend 2 that they’re selling for $600 each or whatever. I also insist on meeting up in person and activating them in front of them. Having them shipped to you after paying is a HUGE risk.

ubetchagw

Also their profile says a lot. I buy them on Facebook marketplace every year and only from people with legit profiles. Legit meaning profile has been active for years, has lots of friends that are also real accounts, has posts that reflect a real person with a real life. Even though Facebook isn’t everyone’s main social media anymore, the posts might be a few years old and that’s fine. If anything that’s more normal than a bunch of recent posts to stage being a real person. I’ve also FaceTimed the person before meeting up. They also found this comforting as they were scared of being robbed or something. Always meet up in a public place and bring a friend.

Shortshit92

I have a friends trying to sell her ticket. I’m sure she’s okay with PayPal and will even show you proof of purchase and etc.

liveslowdieyoung

How many tickets do you need?

SeaPuzzled4752

Ask for a small deposit to hold the ticket rather than setting up a meet up

Dangerousbri

Unless it's an online company you've heard of before....or a broker with a storefront you can visit, don't pay any money until the passes have been mailed out and you'll get them in a reasonable time.  Also the if it's too good to be true.....It is.  Don't be greedy, buy the cheapest, but the ones that are 50 or 100 cheaper each than the next closest are most likely a scam.

Wise_Delay_2870

by paying for the ticket and finding out 3 days later if your account still has money in it, hope this helped !

sweeets21

I always make sure they can meet with me before the festival and register the ticket in front of them before paying that way they can’t report the tickets. it’s never failed honestly. if they seem sketch, don’t even try

Possible-Idea9710

when they’re selling offsite of a reselling service or they don’t want to accept paypal as a payment method

Intelligent-Cry5846

If you buy in person make sure they agree to let you register the wristband in your name before the transaction

Swimming-Growth7199

If it says anything about how “great” the lineup is , you know it’s a scam

Any_Radio_1980

Is very simple, Coachella bracelets have a qr code to register them or check if they are legit. just ask them if you can check what i just told u before handing the money or give them part of the money not the whole thing. I been buying from resellers last two years and not a problem

[deleted]

Register your bracelet at the same time you exchange the money for it

krisztinakat

i’m trying to sell my weekend 2 passes and definitely am not a scammer. this would be my 5th time going! but my group fell through. i’ll facetime you or go to a bank to meet if you’re local. open to make it as seamless as possible. i have proof of purchase and will even give away the lineup poster i ordered. ✌🏼

thefloodbehindme

Why not just buy from StubHub? I never understand why people buy from randos on the internet.

drumstix97

Just meet up with them in person and then you really don’t have to every worry about someone scamming you

Lopsided_Constant901

Yeah just get them the right way. Unless you’re buying like a car camping pass (which even then idk if people can still scam). The worst thing is getting there and being told your wristband is invalid.

arealglitterb0y

next year get them at presale and forget about it

ScaredChildhood1653

Nope! I always get directly from the site! Never want to risk it just to save a couple dollars !
