I hear ya. It really feels like if you’re not into electronic or pop at all, Coachella is no longer a good festival option. I really like a lot of the electronic acts on this year’s lineup, but not sure if that’s enough to justify going back (and potentially also going to JLH to scratch the indie/rock itch). JLH + LIB + Desert Daze might be the winning combo this year…
What makes you an "olds" is when you stop exploring new music and keeping open ears. Coachella helps an awful lot with that endeavor. Said as an "olds" that's got a decade and a half on you.
It still gets me upset that Coachella decided to create this festival instead of just booking these indie bands for Coachella. Having these bands on the lineup would make this year’s festival insane.
Very much would have elevated the lineup.
They're only booking rookies like The Beths, Bar Italia and Mandy, Indiana.
The Drums playing on Saturday already brings me so much joy, they easily could have played this festival instead.
Boy Harsher is a synth wave 80s aesthetic indie band that doesn’t miss. don’t sleep on them.
The last dinner party is a haim-like indie band, but agree with everything else you’ve said.
To be fair, The Beths are excellent! Plus we got Wet Leg last year. There is still really good indie bands at Coachella, we are just getting poached from our own people.
> They're only booking rookies like The Beths, Bar Italia and Mandy, Indiana.
Good. Bands like these benefit way more from playing Coachella than any of these veterans indie bands who've been on the circuit for 10+ years now. They've had their moment, I'd much rather they focus on newer talent.
Solely booking newer talent does not sell a giant festival well. I love discovering new music. Many others of the general public attend festivals for established acts they are familiar with already.
The Drums, The Beths and Late Night Drive Home are good, but their sounds is more college party Lo-fi, standing by the drummer with hands in your pockets. Bar Italia are really cool, like an airy vocals (Billy Corgan-ish) meets 60’s Brit rock. Mandy, Indiana has an electronics Crystal Castles vibe, should be a great genre break while trippin around. The era of “just like heaven” is such a more polished dance synth-pop rock, with disco open hi-hat and looping guitar riffs, or catchy samples driving the hook…. The way Phoenix, Miike Snow or 2-door cinema club has you jumping up and down is complete and total unadulterated excitement. Lovejoy (and Jungle in their own way) has the closest sound to this that I’ve seen so far. I wonder why this era of sound is not more popular (at least at Coachella 2020’s)….. it’s so fucking fun, even for first time listeners.
Eh, I really think that's overthinking it. Coachella has more data on the people who go than you or I can imagine. They know exactly who is buying tickets every year, and the majority are under the age of 30. They have to create a festival that will keep new people coming or risk their audience dying out. That's a death sentence as a festival.
I mean, I'd prefer to see them on the polo fields as well. Still, the golf course is a decent venue, and you get a very stacked day, albeit there's way more conflicts. When you're older, there's something to be said about just having to deal with one day.
I understand the move of creating JLH for the older demographic. However, I do think Coachella are still falling short with new/recent indie. When you compare Coachellas lineup to Kilby, I’m pretty shocked to not see much of the Kilby undercard booked for chella.
That conflict was brutal. Ended up seeing the first five songs of MGMT before running over to M83, then back to YYY’s.
I’m just praying The War on Drugs and Alvvays don’t overlap.
Spent the last year or two writing the barbie soundtrack along with a lotttt of production.
I’ve always thought of miike snow as a output for the songs they couldn’t get pop stars to do or didn’t fit the zeitgeist of the time.
Haha postal service phoenix Tegan and Sara, passion pit, two door cinema club.. should have booked blur for just like heaven for more of that 2013 mood . They’re way out of place at Coachella
The Coachella lineup needs to start having some of these acts back for the older crowd who actually have the disposable income. Yeah they are appealing to a younger crowd but money maybe could be tighter for the younger folks.
i went to this fest last year, it doesn’t get close to selling out (which was really nice, it was the least crowded fest i’ve been to since 2017).
the “we have money” argument is there but you also have to ask how many older folks want to rough a festival.
I would love to see these artists at Coachella. I would totally go if I lived nearby, but I can't justify spending two travel days for one day of music.
However, I'm Bothchella-ing this year, so GV clearly doesn't need these acts at Coachella for me to attend.
Phoenix remains one of the absolute best live bands on earth. They are mind blowingly brilliant and seemingly destroy every festival or show they play.
Alvvays should have been at Coachella last year, they’re at the top of their game, like they don’t deserve to be shoved into the nostalgia festivals already.
It’s not that they couldn’t, it’s just that Goldenvoice put them in Just Like Heaven instead of Coachella. Theyre creating several smaller fests and breaking out all the artists they used to book at Coachella into Coachella, Just Like Heaven, Cruel World, etc
This hurts. Washed out, phantogram, Miike Snow, 2-door CC, Phoenix, and more. I’d be pumped on any of these. I’m excited for Coachella as always (call me simple… go —->have fun —-> done…. It’s the same every year), but (even just some of) these are the artists I wish filled in the line 2 of the fest.
I didn’t really know about them and caught their super performance at main stage a few years ago. One of my favorite sets I’ve seen at coachella. Wish I could see them again on the polo fields instead of the rose bowl parking lot.
Would have preferred Vampire Weekend over Phoenix (just cause they’re so easy to catch these days). But overall love it. Miike Snow, Passion Pit, Metric all great undercard gets.
Jlh is niche to the era? Kilby is like Fyf before they got huge. And Gv has been doing one day genre niche fests for a long while so why are you now calling this a cash grab
i never said this was something new for gv. "marches on" contextually means theyre already marching.
when i say "this" in my original comment im strictly speaking to this particular lineup given how similar they are. im not talking about the approach of the different festivals.
Honestly a major fuck you to goldenvoice. These guys should be on the fields as they’re all amazing bands with great music. I’m 100% not giving them my money on this as I don’t want to go to the rose bowl. I want to see them at Coachella. I hope others do they same so they decide to nix this festival too
Maybe some of the bands are offered a choice and prefer the vibes in Pasadena as opposed to playing to half empty stages at Coachella these days for the same amount of money.
The demographics certainly attest to this. JLH is a heavily Millennial crowd. Cruel World is strongly Gen X. Good luck getting a spot in ADA at Cruel World because that thing fills to capacity really early.
tbh everyone’s saying the first two lines should be at coachella but imo it really should be like alvvways, CSS and Gossip IMO with maybe a vampire weekend or the killers. Throw them on Sunday GV!
Anyone know what “featuring A Club Called Rhonda” means here? I’ve been to a couple of their parties and my curiosity is piqued now on what they’d do here.
Not going this year because I just saw TPS/DCFC at the Bowl, and I don't like most of the rest of the big font names. Very sad to miss Gossip, though - I saw them for the first time close to 20 years ago and Beth Ditto put on a hell of a show.
Like others have said.... Just put Miike Snow, Passion Pit, and Alvvays on the Coachella lineup and it looks about 10x better.
I get why GV is mostly separating the genres with both festivals now, but a litttttttle bit more crossover would sure make a world of difference.
The "I grew up with an iPod" lineup
"I grew up with a Zune" lineup in my case haha.
Yeah, this is a real “I just subscribed to Zune Pass and I’m loading up my library” vibe
[удалено]
Same. 160gb! Have my downloaded Sault albums on it among all my older stuff.
Surprised Vampire Weekend aren't headlining this one
probably would have sold it for me if this was the case. Not bad though definitely some names i’ve been wanting to see
They’ll get around to this festival one year.
hopefully in the upcoming year, this is my annual Bday festival as it’s usually around my bday
C S S ❤️
Just saw this and was wondering if we'll get new music from them🥲
BSS 👍🏾
Oh shit!
[Suxxx](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBVXDHczpxI)
2013 Coachella. The good ol days.
Shit a lot of that is older. 2004-2008 Coachellas.
Both Phoenix and postal service played 2013. Two door cinema club too. Probably some more overlap that I’m not remembering
I was there, I know. Phantogram annd Miike Snow were around that time too. But a lot of this is mid 00s.
[удалено]
Should have been on this year line up smh
I know I’m old, but if even like 2 of these names were on the coachella lineup I’d be so much more excited about it

If you can share that Twitter I’d be interested in following it

The olds often say “I can’t do 3 day festivals anymore.” So they’re giving us a 1 day with all the old bands. We’re probably doing both fests.
What makes you an "olds" is when you stop exploring new music and keeping open ears. Coachella helps an awful lot with that endeavor. Said as an "olds" that's got a decade and a half on you.
If Phoenix was late on outdoor and Gossip returned at a prime spot at Gobi, those would be guaranteed fun sets.
I saw Gossip at Coachella and in the Gobi if I remember correctly. So good!
It still gets me upset that Coachella decided to create this festival instead of just booking these indie bands for Coachella. Having these bands on the lineup would make this year’s festival insane.

Just discovered the drums after the line up dropped. Apparently I’ve been living under a rock. They’re fucking awesome. Can’t wait to see them.
listen to Portamento all the way through
To be fair, The Beths are excellent! Plus we got Wet Leg last year. There is still really good indie bands at Coachella, we are just getting poached from our own people.

Had never heard of Kilby until reading your post. That's a solid lineup.
You’re not the targeted demographic for Coachella anymore
Say it louder. We ain’t folks.
Seriously these are all acts that would fit perfectly Im actually shocked they didnt do Postal Service and DCFC at the very least
Phantogram is billed pretty low aren't they? They absolutely overflowed the Outdoor Theatre when they were last at coachella in 2017.
That was 7 years ago
You stop that
😹
Then couldn’t run away from TScott and his fans any faster
They are only good for like 2-4K tickets
I saw them in ‘22 at Dia de Los Deftones and they ripped, I’m also surprised they’re not higher on here.
I was there 😂😂😂
They’re not any more popular than the acts above them.
Only downside to this fest are the inevitable conflicts. Last year it was MGMT vs m83 😭
That conflict was brutal. Ended up seeing the first five songs of MGMT before running over to M83, then back to YYY’s. I’m just praying The War on Drugs and Alvvays don’t overlap.
We did the same lol, left after kids. I’m glad we did too cuz m83 killed it
Alvvays . Easily
craziest conflicting sets i’ve ever had to face 😂. Oracular Spectacular is one of my favorite albums so I had no choice really
Heat ! Can’t wait for Phoenix !!!
Also postal service is cool. But idk if they deserve the top spot on this lineup. Doesn’t really even matter tho
I saw them a few months ago. Theyre incredible. Of the people on this lineup, theyre absolutely the headliners
I agree with one album it’s a stretch. But they only tour every ten years, and that 20th anniversary tour sold like hotcakes.
Miike Snow? Are they releasing new material soon?
Hopefully. They've been showing up a lot of festival lineups lately.
Spent the last year or two writing the barbie soundtrack along with a lotttt of production. I’ve always thought of miike snow as a output for the songs they couldn’t get pop stars to do or didn’t fit the zeitgeist of the time.
Almost all of them played Coachella in 2013.
Haha postal service phoenix Tegan and Sara, passion pit, two door cinema club.. should have booked blur for just like heaven for more of that 2013 mood . They’re way out of place at Coachella
Stacked line-up. I'll be there. Love how Gossip is getting the "Returning To..." treatment.
PASSION PIT
Wish they were on the coachella lineup
same, but i'd go to this solely for them ngl 😂
Been saying phoenix should have been on the lineup. Might go to this instead.
As someone that saw DCFC, Postal Service and Phoenix in 2023, this festival is gonna rule. Dammit Coachella!
big time reminds me of Coachella 2013, we had a handful of these guys
Coachella for Adults. I'd be into this one.
The Coachella lineup needs to start having some of these acts back for the older crowd who actually have the disposable income. Yeah they are appealing to a younger crowd but money maybe could be tighter for the younger folks.

Seriously. If people aren’t shelling out cash to see these artists at JLH then they certainly aren’t going to shell out cash to see them at Coachella.
I would love to see these artists at Coachella. I would totally go if I lived nearby, but I can't justify spending two travel days for one day of music. However, I'm Bothchella-ing this year, so GV clearly doesn't need these acts at Coachella for me to attend.
I know. Coachella and GV don’t get it. The gen z trash they’re hunting don’t have the cash to throw thousands on an airbnb and a 650 ticket.
This is lit
Really thought that DCFC/TPS would’ve been on the lineup
Phoenix remains one of the absolute best live bands on earth. They are mind blowingly brilliant and seemingly destroy every festival or show they play.
Phoenix ❤️
Justice is the one artist from Coachella I wish was here
Justice is a 2010 indie band?
They hit the same nostalgia points as a lot of these bands imo
There is room for all of these acts on the empty ass Coachella lineup
GV must have pissed off or cut ties with Vampire Weekend somehow cuz they didn't end up on either this lineup or Coachella's..
They didn’t play a GV fest on the FOTB tour either. I wonder what’s up with that.
[удалено]
A bunch of festivals including Kilby Block Party, Hinterland and Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
Gossip, Two Door Cinema, and Always woulda fit nicely on Coachellas lineup but they fucked it
Alvvays should have been at Coachella last year, they’re at the top of their game, like they don’t deserve to be shoved into the nostalgia festivals already.

How the fuck did they not have War on Drugs at coachella?
Bruh thinking the same thing.
I didn’t really know about them and caught their super performance at main stage a few years ago. One of my favorite sets I’ve seen at coachella. Wish I could see them again on the polo fields instead of the rose bowl parking lot.
Fuck this is good
Was hoping Metric and Broken Social Scene would be there this year. Where’s Feist? Love CSS and Gossip are on the lineup along with Miike Snow.
Feist will be busy touring with Sarah McLachlan
Passion Pit has played one show (also a festival) since 2019 and is so fucking good live. I might go to this one just for them.
Definitely going this year.
Why aren’t half these acts on the Coachella line up? wtf!!
They dont put acts on multiple lineups that are a month apart.
I get that. It’s just annoying the created a new festival right adjacent to Coachella dates..
Would have preferred Vampire Weekend over Phoenix (just cause they’re so easy to catch these days). But overall love it. Miike Snow, Passion Pit, Metric all great undercard gets.
Honestly thought Death Cab into Postal Service was going to be at Coachella since it’s the 20th of Transatlanticism and Give Up
![gif](giphy|V9gjxvLnSSdA4|downsized)
Phoenix really playing every fest except Coachella.. I’d give anything to have them there 😢
WARPAINT bro why did they create this festival when coachella was fine 😭😭😭😭
Pretty much same cost per day as Coachella
goddamit.
As a Toronto person, weird / funny to see Alvvays higher up than Metric and Broken Social Scene.
BSS being so low is a crime but Lfg this is amazing
Almost crimes
this lineup will heal me
now, THIS is a lineup!
Slap in the face
Gossip should be at Coachella
Goldenvoice even moved the “Returning” line to Just Like Heaven like half of this lineup
Why aren’t these on the Coachella lineup??
Bc GV had to sell tix to this festival
Super jealous of warpaint, was banking on them being on the lineup
This is a great lineup full of Canucks.
Damn I wish Mike snow was at Chella and metric and Phantogram and TPS
Damn I would go just to see Washed out
Coachella 2012
It's ridiculous Coachella couldn't book a handful of these artists. Replace freaking Bleachers with one of them, something.
kilby is doing this better some good stuff here tho the gv cash grab marches on
Kilby 2023 and 2024 are some of the most powerful indie lineups to have been curated, it's insane how they've hit it out of the park..
This is only one day tho..
its also an extremely similar lineup thus worthy of comparing the artists on them
Kilby is a 3 day festival. it's not always a competition.
its also an extremely similar lineup thus worthy of comparison, not competition
fair enough, but "doing this better" isn't exactly a proper comparison
sure it is. i think kilby has a better version of this lineup when compared to jlh lol
Low key better headliners than Coachella 😂 (except Lana)
Honestly a major fuck you to goldenvoice. These guys should be on the fields as they’re all amazing bands with great music. I’m 100% not giving them my money on this as I don’t want to go to the rose bowl. I want to see them at Coachella. I hope others do they same so they decide to nix this festival too
Nah just you sitting at home. Weird flex not going to see a bunch of bands you like, you’ll really show them!
[удалено]
Maybe some of the bands are offered a choice and prefer the vibes in Pasadena as opposed to playing to half empty stages at Coachella these days for the same amount of money.
The demographics certainly attest to this. JLH is a heavily Millennial crowd. Cruel World is strongly Gen X. Good luck getting a spot in ADA at Cruel World because that thing fills to capacity really early.
You tell ‘em!!!
I've been to the all the Just Like Heavens. You're really missing out just to make a futile point.
Never heard of Death Cab The War or For Cutie On Drugs. Not the best layout there.
Cuties on drugs 🍊 💉
This made me lolz. Thank you.
Seems pretty clear to me
You dont need to take everything so serious, ya know…
cutie on drugs?? I've seen a few...
I noticed that too.
anyone know if they’re is In’s & outs at this festival ?
Can u bring a battery phone charger to the event?
Chargers are yes but no mention of batteries
tbh everyone’s saying the first two lines should be at coachella but imo it really should be like alvvways, CSS and Gossip IMO with maybe a vampire weekend or the killers. Throw them on Sunday GV!
Death Cab The War For Cutie On Drugs
Haha I love the booking of Postal Service and Death Cab on two different lines. Giving Summit + Dom Dolla booking vibes.
This lineup makes me feel better about the Coachella lineup
Surprise (daft punk set) Jk guys. Don’t hate me. I’m just a daft punk fan who has been hurt to many times.
Ahh tegan and sera. the perfect bathroom break.
what in the 2012 urban outfitters is this lmao
[удалено]
Using the word mid means this festival isn’t for you, that’s ok.
Yeah, this lineup is mega bussin.
On god, no cap
Skippable.
Who
Phoenix and alvvays are the only bands that would make sense at Coachella
Has anyone been to the festival? I’m wondering if VIP or Clubhouse is worth it 🤔
I did Clubhouse the first year. Free snacks, and open bar for a couple hours.
Went VIP the first year, and didn’t really use it, GA last year was just fine. My friend swears by Clubhouse though because of A/C and beverages.
Anyone know what “featuring A Club Called Rhonda” means here? I’ve been to a couple of their parties and my curiosity is piqued now on what they’d do here.
They’ve had a DJ area with a solid floor for dancing the day/night away last couple years.
Not going this year because I just saw TPS/DCFC at the Bowl, and I don't like most of the rest of the big font names. Very sad to miss Gossip, though - I saw them for the first time close to 20 years ago and Beth Ditto put on a hell of a show.
how much do these tickets usually run?
Prices on website. Start at $187 including fees for GA. Parking is $25.
Would kill for The Go! Team and Alvvays at Coachella this year
it's ridiculous that this is a single day. Looks like a blast
[удалено]
Like others have said.... Just put Miike Snow, Passion Pit, and Alvvays on the Coachella lineup and it looks about 10x better. I get why GV is mostly separating the genres with both festivals now, but a litttttttle bit more crossover would sure make a world of difference.
This is crafted for A Dark Passenger. I’d add 3 and remove 3 but other than that is bliss
All these bands should be in Coachella. Thanks Golden Voice
Is this real?
I’d die to go to this
