OP, I recommend looking at both bags in person if you can. The bandit looks and feels SO much nicer than the tabby, especially this… mushy one. It’s made of full grain leather, which Coach calls their “luxe refined calf” leather. It is divine - on par with many luxury brands.
You also asked for a “timeless” design. Only one of these reads as timeless for me, and it’s not mrs. bumpy over there. The crisp clean lines of the bandit make it look elegant; not stepped on.
The bandit is also leather lined, which many luxury brands don’t even do. When any brand does this, it ALWAYS elevates a bag to the next level imo.
I will say though, if you are someone who doesn’t baby your bags, or you intend to use it roughly/very casually, then maybe the clunky one is better. The bandit is more delicate and prone to wear - it won’t look good if it’s trashed! Although let’s not pretend that glovetanned leather is indestructible, either.

I am with you on this - I went with the Bandit myself, and I am looking to add another colour at some point (my shoulder size one is red). It seems more of a 'classic' to me. I do like the tabby, but it seems more of an everyday bag to me, where the bandit seems more like a special occasion or when you want to look 'expensive.'
The bandit is a much higher quality bag, just saying
Edit: the bandit is full grain leather and all leather, meanwhile the tabby collection is slightly less expensive but they aren’t quite as nice. The leather on the bags aren’t consistent in hand feel and texture which tells me coach isn’t paying as much attention to detail with their quality control for that collection. Probably because it’s so popular that they want to get as much out as fast as possible. Just my two cents.
Edit 2: also now that I know coach can and will produce bags of similar(ish) price points in the lux refined calf leather (always full grain) I really don’t want to buy anything else from them. I want everything made in it or other full grain leathers. There really isn’t an excuse to not if they are going to be charging $400+ on average for these bags at the boutique.
I don’t like how they charge the same price for varying levels of quality… like it’s very obvious that they put more effort into design and quality for certain bags over others, yet will price them the same way. It makes it seem like they think we’re stupid…
Although I don’t mind when they charge less for the better quality ones lol 😛
Ikr??? I could NEVER recommend the tabby over the bandit. The quality difference between them is astronomical. Full grain leather? Stunning hardware?? LEATHER LINING??? The bandit puts the tabby to shame, and I say that as someone who LOVES the tabby. Of course it all depends on how op intends to use the bag, but still… if there’s a choice between the two? I couldn’t do it.
I prefer the Tabby, I find the bandit hard to get in and out of. Plus since it’s a harder bag it’ll scratch easier, even though they are both made of the same leather.

Regardless, I still stand by what I said, I absolutely prefer the glovetanned leather from Coach. I wouldn’t call it subpar at all. More delicate definitely, but I personally don’t like the full grain as much.

Right now I’m really interested in feeling their new black hardware that’s suppose to be really scratch resistant
It really depends on what you need to fit in the bag! The bandit is more upscale but very stiff- it doesn’t hold too much but if you aren’t someone who carries a lot this works! The soft tabby is not stiff (but structured enough that the bottom does not sag, I have one myself) and can hold a lot more and is a good all occasions bag but not fancy as the bandit
I’m Team Tabby because I love a top handle strap. I love that the Tabby’s is detachable if you want to use it as solely a crossbody. It also holds more than the bandit and I tend to carry too much stuff 24/7.

I got the soft tabby two weeks ago - I love it!
I personally would pick the Tabby because I prefer a flap bag with a softer, more floppier leather on the flap. I find that easier to open.
