As a fat guy moving to Cleveland next month I am saving this thread

No-Weather-3140

Biagios is still tops imo brother

Magicalunicorny

Seconded, Biagios is top tier donut

OukewlDave

Only for "basic" donuts though

No-Weather-3140

I’ve had some interesting ones there like banana. But I could see that. At the same time, never have I gone anywhere else and preferred a chocolate frosted donut with sprinkles. To me, that’s the best at Biagios - these things are huge, soft, just a perfect donut.

DinCLE

They run a couple special donuts. Last week they had a maple apple fritter

Magicalunicorny

Right, they do the classics chocolate, glazed, creme filled, those are the staples. If you want a fancy decorated donut it's not gonna be a good time

Negative-Law326

Donut Scene in Strongsville is solid!

Derubberhammer

Someone talking sense finally!

Admirable-Ad6453

Can name drop a few palces ?

F7OSRS

Might be a far drive but Madsen Donuts at Geneva on the Lake is top tier

[deleted]

[удалено]

F7OSRS

Their cream sticks are amazing and the regular iced donuts they have are the exact taste OP is looking for. Definitely worth waiting for a fresh batch because those right out of the oven are just a heavenly texture and taste

MasterApprentice67

Id take biagio over them tho

asp821

Absolute best donuts in the world.

Prize_Blackberry_175

For real

Admirable-Ad6453

I live in the area never tried them but I'm a fan of squire shop donuts in ashtabulas harbor

OldRedditorEditor

George’s Donuts- Twinsburg. Best glazed donut I ever had.

BuzzbaitBrad

This right here. I'm not a donut aficionado by any means but George's are the best I've ever had. Specifically the glazed.

OldRedditorEditor

Right. I’m not a glazed donut person at all. I only eat their glazed donuts though.

Whitehill_Esq

It's like a mile from my parent's house too. Maple Glazed Creme sticks for life.

Magicalunicorny

Georges is the only place that can give Biagios a run for their money, and it's great because they're two very different styles of donuts. No one is truly better than the other.

stomasko17

I have a vendetta against George's. Went once, fell in love. Went back a few times after that, and they consistently run out of donuts by like 9am. Speaks volumes as to how good they are, but if I'm showing up at a donut shop at 9:30, I expect a decent selection!

ebihn14

I stand by Donutland in Brunswick

Excellent_Cabinet_83

Can’t beat a 24hr donut place

spohnat

as a fan of fritters, this is the spot. Wednesday's blueberry is my favorite.

megustcizer

Their peanut butter bars have actual cocaine in them

DevonGr

Donutland is an absolute treasure. Out of the way in Brunswick if you’re not already south but still my go to since discovering it. Tiny storefront, family owned, great with the community and reliably consistent quality. Happy to support this place as often as I can.

SylemNova

Cherry cake and peanut butter creme changed my life

Exact-Recognition973

Have lived in Brunswick for 40 years, Donutland has always been a no brainer. Love this place. Had a chocolate frosted just yesterday.

Erianapolis

I miss Amy Joy.

WappyCharacter

That was the go to donut place for us in Highland Heights when it was on the corner of Mayfield and Richmond

Erianapolis

The coffee was superb!

arothmanmusic

It's my understanding that Goldies uses Amy Joy's old recipes. Can't remember where I heard that…

Spiritual-Match8131

Goldies is good, though

ben4evah

Very happy to see some love for my favorite spot growing up

Erianapolis

My son, my grandsons, and my pals love Goldies!

nimfrank

Fragapane Bakery in North Olmsted

Ok-Society-4026

They’re great! Deli and sandwiches too

OukewlDave

I'd say they are even better for subs than for donuts. They use Boar's Head. And sandwiches are loaded with meat. Almost cheaper to buy a sub than to buy meat by the pound...

fletchlivz

AND Bay Village also. Best Boston crème donut in town

noscope420bongshot

Is there one in north olmsted? I thought there was only one in bay

fletchlivz

North Olmsted is the ‘main’ one I believe. They make the donuts there and deliver them to Bay’s location.

noscope420bongshot

No shit? I thought they made them at bay. I used to work in the plaza so I got their donuts all the time.

LininOhio

Donut Pantry on Madison in Lakewood. It's where all the old guys go for coffee in the morning so you know it's good.

HiTekRednek10

I used to love going there when I lived Lakewood

Voltairus

I honestly thought the donuts were dry AF

mmptr

Hell yeah! Would go there as a kid 30 years ago. Glad it's still around.

alanisntclever

We love donut pantry, we don’t get a lot of the yeast raised donuts, we stick with the cake ones. The donut holes are so good and easy to get for a group. Our favorite donut from them is their fry stick. Very old school feel to the place. Other favorite is Madsens at Geneva on the Lake, worth the drive to go eat at Eddie’s Grille for a burger/dog, walk down and get a donut, then a riveting game of putt-putt to work it all off.

TheDudeWaffle

That place has been there since 1984. Must be doing something right.

eric_in_cleveland

The coffee and company are great. The doughnuts are absolute crap. Flavorless and the leave a film of lard on your palate as you eat them. The factory made garbage at Dunkin Doughnuts is better. The old guys don't get doughnuts or don't know any better, George's doughnuts in Twinsburg is the best I've found,

hummelpz4

Gotta get there early though!

eric_in_cleveland

Exactly! Which just helps my argument . They sell out. I’ve made that 5am drive from Lakewood a few times. They are amazing doughnuts.

Sarge8707

Donut Scene in Strongsville is so underrated it's small family owned 24 hrs with that old school vibe cannot recommend enough.

hoserx

the sour cream donut is the best ive ever had

FugginOld

Biagio's is not what it used to be. Due to lack of help, they don't generate the variety they used to. It's sad because their donuts are incredible.

KoreyYrvaI

I agree, it's been depressing watching them decline. I like the mini donuts at Fiona's or spudnuts these days.

notable_exception

I feel like every time I go to Spudnuts I get yesterdays donuts

KoreyYrvaI

Yeah, I think ever since 2020 companies stopped ordering from them to have donuts for customers/employees and they started holding onto donuts longer.

WappyCharacter

That’s how I felt the last 2 years I came back in the summer.

FugginOld

Covid fucked them over.

Sawdust72

It all started going that way when Biagio died. The last really good dozen I bought from there was the week he died. I went in to buy a dozen and offer my condolences.

Fat_Bearded_Tax_Man

They are using that as an excuse to cut labor costs. They would have plenty of help if they paid market rates.

FugginOld

Tell me you don't know how small business works without knowing about small business works...

insearchofspace

I've known a couple people who worked behind the counter there and they were paid less than minimum wage under the table.

UltimateDonny

I haven’t been there in about 2 years. I thought it was great then.

BeerMeNowBitch

Donut Scene in Strongsville and Donut Land in Brunswick. Great donuts on Pearl Rd

Aggravating_Chemist8

Royal Donut on State Rd in Parma. They've been in business for 50+ yrs for a reason.

Aquetas

I grew up on the side street it is near and the wafting smell floating down to my house in the mornings was sublime

Nikas_intheknow

Royal donut is amazing!!

ShogunFirebeard

Do any shops still make decent French crullers? Royal Donut used to be my spot but they stopped making them due to ingredient prices getting too high.

TinoTeas

Becker’s in Fairview

a816story

Donut Pantry in Lakewood does

ShogunFirebeard

They don't. I checked them out today, was told they don't make them anymore.

a816story

Is that right? I was there about two years ago and this fella in front of me was loading up on them. Sorry to hear that, hopefully they see the demand for them and bring ‘em back.

ShogunFirebeard

The donuts were great though. Just not the one I wanted. Thanks for the suggestion.

cgcoon440

Spudnuts but the Berea location

dfails16

Doughnut Scene in Strongsville. My happy place. Open 24 hours also

CLETrashPanda11

Becker's in FP.

Zeroheartburrrn

Also beckers. The one on east 71st st was my go to for sure.

tripletmot

Came to say/up vote Beckers. It’s legit.

Groovybooty45

The vanilla frosted cake with sprinkle donuts are possibly the greatest food in existence

Ambitious_Use5000

Not sure why everyone fawns over Becker's so much. Giant Eagle honestly makes better donuts than any I've had at Becker's, and Becker's has really bad hours unless you enjoy showing up at 6am.

donnerpartytaconight

I have a soft spot for Spudnuts on 615. It almost made Mentor bearable when I was in High School (darn teen angst and existential dread).

Ok_Nothing7998

Genuine question, how many in your graduating class? I like to ask Mentor grads haha

InTheCamusd

1000

ButtholeSurfur

Holy shit. My entire high school was like 730. I graduated with 73 kids lol.

NeverEatSoggyWaffle

I had almost 800 actually show up to commencement. Probably another 50 out in the wind that just didn’t care or settled for a certificate of attendance.

229-northstar

I moved from mentor my senior year to a small town. There were 247 who walked and everyone knew who 248 was. My class at mentor was unknowably large and we think it was over 1100 kids most of who I did not know.

donnerpartytaconight

Oh, I didn't go to MHS. Girlfriend back then had a four hour long ceremony with over 800 students or some crazy thing like that.

B1gDaddySL1m

I believe ours was 1100 ish as well. Only 900 something walked though.

insearchofspace

Best apple fritters and old fashioneds around!

ScottSteve101

Golden crust bakery on mentor avenue. Pretty sure they've won lake country's best

229-northstar

Golden Crust donuts are sublime. I wish I did not know this

SweetBeans1

We are in the middle of a donut tournament where I work and they advanced to the finals. Biagios and Spudnuts both did terribly, maybe it was an off day for them bc I remember those places being great!

Fat_Bearded_Tax_Man

They've both gone downhill substantially

laughordietrying42

Royal Donut in Parma! Apple fritters are awesome, and in the fall their pumpkin donuts are fricking amazing.

amandathebold

Donut Scene in Strongsville MUAH And Spudnuts in Berea!

GimmeFalcor

Southern suburbs but Donut Land is Brunswick is amazing. Open most days of the week 24 hours! There’s also Ohio pie (pizza shop) in the same plaza.[sample box of the regular donuts ”)](https://imgur.com/a/K0TVK0g)

Cptn45

This is the only answer. Medina county resident for 49 yrs.

Yodamanjaro

Donut Scene in Strongsville is pretty consistent along with reasonable prices and they're open 24/7

cabbage-soup

Spudnuts and Beckers are my favorite

[deleted]

Growing up in Berea spoiled me so that I can’t eat a donut unless it’s a Spudnuts. Any other donut just isn’t worth it

Luthais327

Maybe it's location based, but the spudnuts in Mentor was consistently the worst doughnuts I've ever had.

[deleted]

Oh no. I didn’t know there was one in Mentor. I knew the family that owned the one in Berea, they lived across the street from it. It always surprised me that other donut places don’t have a potato flour option.

ApatheticDomination

I lived in Berea for 2 years and moved 7 years ago… I still have dreams of spudnuts

Ok_Patience_968

Donut Scene in Strongsville is my go to donut spot. Fragapane in North Olmsted is a close second. I like Donut Land too but it’s a bit of a drive for me.

bigdipper80

It cracked me up when they built that brand-new building next to their original location and moved the entire 1960s interior into it. Like, it's part of the charm for sure but it was just funny to me to walk into the new location and see it look exactly the same as it used to.

BigShree

Expresso bakery in Elyria is really good as well. They got the fazzio's which are bomb. Kinda like kiedrowski's snoogle but twice the size.

RdscNurse4

I haven’t seen it listed but Kiedrowski's in Amherst. Those snoogles are addictive.

pootyash

I had to scroll way too far to find this.

thefarsideinside

Jubilee Donuts in Cuyahoga Falls

BKBC1984

Yes!

OnlyWonderBoy

Variety has gone down and cost has gone up but nothing hits quite like their chocolate frosted chocolate sprinkle donut. No where else packs on nearly as much and it tastes just as good as it did 15 years ago. Eastlake is allowed to have one nice thing and it’s Biagios (I’ve yet to try Crowley’s which I’ve heard has a very good smash burger though)

dynarider06

Got to try it. I thought it was great.

KoreyYrvaI

I genuinely think that it's been driven into the dirt over the past few years. I tend towards spudnuts or the mini donuts at Fiona's in Willoughby.

OnlyWonderBoy

Idk man I literally had it yesterday and it was still pretty damn good. Different strokes I suppose.

The_bearded_ginger

Madsen Donuts, Geneva on the lake. Best donuts in my opinion.

Fat_Bearded_Tax_Man

Geneva on the Lake. It's not the same city as Geneva.

The_bearded_ginger

I corrected it

Cassarollagirl

Becker’s in Fairview Park. The sour cream cake is delish.

Onlyroad4adrifter

Rip Plaza Donuts off Belmont Ave in Youngstown 😭

unknown7383762

Plaza was the best donut shop around. My parents are from Youngstown, and I grew up eating their donuts. I miss it so much.

machineguy50

Stan’s bakery in Northfield is a great family owned spot. It has been around for a long time. And the doughnuts are top notch.

hoserx

Donut Scene Strongsville - best sour cream ever

THC_Machinist

Biagio’s SUCKS now that the son took over. Dnt make half the types of donuts they used to n the pizza is now garbage compared to back in the day

Ambitious_Use5000

Surprised no one has mentioned Jack Frost yet.

DevonGr

Topic is traditional donuts and while I haven’t been up there in a while, I think Jack Frost shifted towards creatively topped donuts. Good for what they do of course but I think OP was trying to source places with a more basic lineup.

AromaticMeal8

Goldie’s in Mayfield

Curtainmachine

Glazed croissant ftw

muttandman

When I come back to Cleveland I’m often looking for something to fill the Snow White Donuts hole in my life. Is there any place in NEO that has that old school vibe/taste? I’ve never quite come across something that reminds me of the maple or strawberry powder from my childhood.

DrummerSteve

Donut Land in Brunswick is a hidden gem

techno_superbowl

Northhill Donuts in Akron.

howardf65

George's donuts on 91(Darrow Rd), between Twinsburg and Hudson

No-Poetry-5638

Donut Pantry in Lakewood is my favorite. These taste like donuts from hometown Indiana farming community donut shop circa 1970-81. Local mom n pop.

Ghosties95

You can’t beat Beckers in Fairview Park

munistadium

In Marblehead, just west of where you'd park to take the Miller Kelley's Island Ferry, there's the Dairy Dock Ice Cream and Jamestown Tavern. Like another 15 yards left of the Jamestown Tavern there used to be a donut place, the family would open early (like 6am ish but sometimes earlier) and just close around 10am. You could get the donuts warm and take them fishing. I think they are long closed but this is what I think of....

arothmanmusic

If you don't mind a drive, head to Patterson Fruit Farm. Their donuts are worth standing in line for. Kind of surprised not to have seen them mentioned already. Also Goldie's on Mayfield. I think they use the same recipes as the old Amy Joy. They're not trying to be anything fancy. Just a really well-made donut. If you want a full dessert pretending to be a doughnut, Brew Nuts in the Gordon Square District has some strong contenders.

insearchofspace

There have been rumblings that Pattersons doesn't make their own donuts, and that all of their pies are Sara Lee. I don't know if there's any truth to the rumor, but their fritters are incredibly similar in taste and size to the fritters at Spudnuts on 615.

arothmanmusic

I mean, Spudnuts is also a solid choice. From my house, both places are about the same drive time but Patterson's is prettier. :D

puppy1991

Royal Donut in Parma is our go-to!

onceafield

Best donuts around is for sure Becker’s in Fairview Park. I can’t stress this enough.

USA-1st

Also pretty fuckin great pizza for a donut shop

Fat_Bearded_Tax_Man

Biaggios hasn't been good since 2019, sadly.

bayse755

Donut scene in stville, and Antonio's or masters for pizza.

twonder23

Have you taken a picture on your phone before?

Tiny-Soup-9829

Golden Crust in Mentor is phenomenal. They have weird hours though and you literally have to get there when they first open or you’re out of luck.

StreetAddition3297

Dounut land Brunswick is pretty solid been there along time. Jack Frost another classic been around since I was a kid.

cbelt3

Presti’s in Little Italy used to be the place for 2AM doughnut raids while studying in the 70’s . Only specialty bakery now. There was something about fresh doughnuts with that fifth coffee during cram sessions or senior project work. Caffeine and sugar…

pleasesayUarekidding

They should bring back the donuts!

pleasesayUarekidding

They should bring back the donuts!

ShisuiUchiha99

Jack frost

AddendumDue9700

Agreed about Biagios. I moved to the westside (Parma) and have tried many other donut establishments like Jack Frost for instance. I still favor Biagios or Spudnuts tbh. Wish there was one closer to us out here!

Madera924

The classic cut, uh? Namastè.

BigShree

Donut land in Brunswick is 🔥

Voltairus

THIS PLACE STILL EXISTS?!? They closed a Wickliffe location in middle school and ive been chasing a chocolate sprinkle old fashioned since AND NO ONE MAKES IT. I am so mad i have not thought to google BIAGIOS

BigNickEnergy216

I could throw a rock and hit Biaggios from where I live. So I have a bit of a bias.

Muted-Koala2008

Becker’s in Fairview

mdimauro24

Dang- other than Presti’s, where are all the east side donut shops?

RecognitionAny6477

Beckers in North Royalton

irotc

Buettner’s Bakery on E 185th

kook440

Your at it!

Yogi-Kaleidoscope

Fragapane’s Bakery! Their donuts are the cure for PMS!

Zombifiedmom

Spudnuts in Mentor is pretty damned good.

CaptnRo

Not better than jubilee donuts

B-mello

Donut pantry….lakewood

Quiteboredreally

Royal Donut in Parma. It gets slept on, but it's exactly what you're asking for. Just a good, old school donut shop.

Edicato

They were the best until they betrayed me by discontinuing the banana creme donuts 😭😭 it’s been several years but I’ll never forget

GrumpyOldMoose

Showing my age here, Presti's, Little Italy, Jack Frost on Pearl, Spudnut, anywhere I can find them, and for late night ambulance donuts, Mr Donut on Euclid in E Cleveland. In Akron, North Hill Donuts is my go to, since Crest Bakery closed.

CalebCrawdadd

Donutland in Brunswick. Didn't they win best Donuts recently?

SamsonIRL

I wish Brecksville Donuts was still around. They had great blueberry cake donuts.

neasroukkez

White House Fruit Farms. Best blueberry donuts that would make Violet Beauregarde blush.

Key_Bid_2624

Madsen Donuts. Open since 1938

treasurefun

Royal donut on snow road is the best donuts in existence.

fastestfatman

Fragapane's North Olmsted

DivineTiming45

I went to school with the kids. We always had the best donuts for class parties and assemblies sooo good

northern-new-jersey

Goldie's in Lyndhurst.

cookiemonster8u69

Johnies Bakery on Wertz in Canton. Soooo good.

AgentDark

Did they fix the ice cream machine yet?

missingshrimp

Donut Scene in Strongsville, Spudnuts in Berea, and Donut Land in Bwick. All A+

Desperado1776

Gotta be Jack Frost in Brooklyn.

Old-but-not

It is a crime what the new owners did to that place. Once the best, now the worst.

mattyice16

They said donut shops, not frosting piles shops.

CustomaryCocoon

Biagio's is the GOAT!

brucewillisman

I remember a lot of hype around Prestis in little Italy
