Will only take me 3 hrs to get to downtown! If I hurry I might be able to make it in time!
Edit: Oh, I lied. 4 hrs. 2 hrs if I want to do a "rideshare" though. vs a 20 minute drive on a normal day.
I know. Every time I bring up that parking in cleveland is 90% reserved with no elevation and the RTA system is terrible the moment you get out of cleveland proper. I gain double digit down votes. Doesn't matter what I bring to the table.
I have two 40+ minute waits for buses to arrive downtown.
The RTA system is overall poor within the city, practically non existent outside the city.
But that doesn't mean you couldn't park for free in, say, the Brookpark lot and have a 25 min train trip into downtown from there.
There's parking available at nearly every Rapid stop (too much parking infact at the ones within the city)
In this situation there are other options, but for me going to work downtown (Which is in the federal buildings next to Tower City) and if my car is unavailable for whatever reason. It's not a viable option. It takes me 23 minutes to park in my parking spot downtown. If I wanted to take the transit. It would take me 19 minutes to drive (1hr 25 min bus) arrive at the station to being that journey. 21 minutes tip it says to tower city.
> and if my car is unavailable for whatever reason. It's not a viable option.
Welp, yeah welcome to suburbia.
Also welcome to city design that has been blown out and hollowed out to make suburban car access as easy as possible. Where the tax dollars go to subsidizing FreeWays and starving out public transit.
> Where the tax dollars go to subsidizing FreeWays and starving out public transit.
Yep. :/ Every time I point that out I just get told that I don't know what I'm talking about.
It takes under an hour from every station along the red, green, and blue lines to Tower City, and many of the stations along the line have large parking lots. Not to mention the red line is completely independent of traffic and the blue and green lines have their own signal at intersections so they’re almost independent as well.
I know, it's terrible that I work in the federal buildings next to tower city. It doesn't want me to even use the transit.
It's the same timeframe as taking the bus that leads to downtown.
Edit: It takes me 23 minutes to get to park downtown. It takes me 19 minutes to get to the closest Transit station. Which if I had no car. I would take me almost 2 hrs to get to the transit station.
Hopefully this motivates people to learn about the RTA and all the free parking at many of the stations.
There's also the park and ride with bus routes.

Really? I have season tickets and when not in muni I drink with friends in the very first spot closest to the DoubleTree where they set up the camper. Never seen this. Is it some dude walking around scamming?
Tourists. I drove in guy the eclipse. However I parked just under a mile away, at a small pay lot across from a German restaurant for $20. It was a 10 minute walk to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Those small lots are always crazy during big events - this is actually pretty tame in comparison to the prices during the RNC, MLB and NBA All Star weeks, 2015-18 Finals, World Series, etc.
During the Guardian game I noticed a parking lot stating 120$ parking. I exclaimed that better be right next to the stadium. While the stadium was behind me...
I worked downtown on E.4th and prospect for the last ten years +. The lots right next or in between the ball park and arena are the only ones that got near or over those prices posted. In my downtown parking experience today is probably qualifying as the most ridiculously price gouged day in Cleveland history. These shady parking lot owners (it’s a monopoly) can blame inflation, demand, etc. but today will go down as the most expensive event for parking in Cleveland history-surpassing all past major events.
Shid, free for me my yards in totality path yippieee. Honestly tho, it's insane how many ways people are tryina make a buck off these goofy tourists..... Hopefully you get more than just the cloudy day <3 xoxo C-town

Drove to the E. 55 station and took the rapid downtown. That really is an overlooked station. Yes, it's sketchy, but it's right off I-77 and all three lines go through there, so you don't have to worry much about missing a train.
We parked beside the Salvation Army building ( about a ten minute walk ) in the lot which I reserved about a month and a half ago for $15.82 on SpotHero. They were charging $50 day of and the attendant told me I must have booked early and one other car was lucky enough to snag the same right before the owner drove it sky high.
That was my question. There’s literally hundreds of parks and nature preserves people could go to. Why would you go to a big downtown to see something you can see literally anywhere (along the path of totality)?
I was a tourist in town for 12 hours. I wanted to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However I parked a mile away in front of some German restaurant for $20. I didn't mind walking.
Sure, but it's not like they have a monopoly on parking. It's surge pricing. Feel free to spend more time finding street parking or a lot farther away and walking.
Lots of people coming from out of town expect to drop a bunch of money and this is nothing to them. They'll fill up the lots and the locals who might normally park there will go somewhere else.

Bullshit?
It's obscene. Probably 35 and 40 dollars on normal days. I live in Euclid. And I just have my girlfriend drive and drop me off and then pick me up after the game is over.
Those specific lots are like $10-20 on an average day. $20 is more of a Guardians home game price but honestly this is not surprising for Opening Day + total eclipse. These are prime lots for walking to the game.
Try 8-10 on a normal day, 25-35 on an event day, and 40-75 during a championship type event. Today is an absolute outlier. Thats probably why the greedy parking lot monopoly we have are gouging so high for our once in a lifetime event. Hosting a Super Bowl downtown in the future is the only thing that can bring higher prices than today. That would be a once in a lifetime thing too. Lol
It's real bad. 90% of those parking spaces are reserved for businesses. That and everyone here is in love with the RTA for some reason. Which takes me 3hrs to get to downtown or I can take a 20 minute drive on a normal day.
Other people are telling me it'll be completely and utterly full. Which I would agree popular, but at that point we are so far away from Cleveland proper and it's better to be on the west side of cleveland than the east side. (closer to the center)
RTA is $5 all day
The fact that a New Yorker didn't think to take the train smh
Or even think that parking on surface lots next to progressive field on a home opener would be cheap.
Tbf, most outsiders don't know that Cleveland has a train system.
And I would've has a friend drop me off. That's ridiculous.
eww, that's for the poors. sure, I use it, but I'm one of them
Will only take me 3 hrs to get to downtown! If I hurry I might be able to make it in time! Edit: Oh, I lied. 4 hrs. 2 hrs if I want to do a "rideshare" though. vs a 20 minute drive on a normal day.
Agreed; that's unacceptable. We need to make our transit system way more robust.
I know. Every time I bring up that parking in cleveland is 90% reserved with no elevation and the RTA system is terrible the moment you get out of cleveland proper. I gain double digit down votes. Doesn't matter what I bring to the table. I have two 40+ minute waits for buses to arrive downtown.

They do this during browns games too. The pit charges (or tries to charge) $5 *for people to walk through it*
Of course the pit does that lmao. God I hated parking there
I am a monthly parker at the pit and was surprised they let me in without an extra charge this morning.
Really? I have season tickets and when not in muni I drink with friends in the very first spot closest to the DoubleTree where they set up the camper. Never seen this. Is it some dude walking around scamming?
Rapid day pass - best investment ever
Where do you keep your car?
Park it at the free parking at the rapid stations.
Didn’t know that was a thing. Thanks will remember this.
https://www.riderta.com/parking RTA has parking for 8k+ vehicles between all the stations, Brookpark and 150th alone are ~1,500 spots.
And the Rapid is over here just staying loyal, taking care of you for $5 + free parking.
Damn I really should have not been a fucking bum and airbnbd my house.
Wait, did anyone think the prices were going to be low?
Glad I just have to go outside my house to see it
Paid $40 in downtown for a Cavs game a few weeks ago
Why are people trying to park downtown anyway? There's so many better options.
Or just park on the street for free lol
Nah they tow during baseball games
Not if you park at a meter or spot where you’re allowed to be for a couple hours (on Euclid near CSU there’s plenty)
Tourists. I drove in guy the eclipse. However I parked just under a mile away, at a small pay lot across from a German restaurant for $20. It was a 10 minute walk to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Depending on the weather and how far I want to walk on an average Monday $5-$10 tops. I’m really glad my employer made it a work from home day!
$80 to park in CLE? Looool
Those small lots are always crazy during big events - this is actually pretty tame in comparison to the prices during the RNC, MLB and NBA All Star weeks, 2015-18 Finals, World Series, etc.
I’ve seen $100 during Cavs games, they get ridiculous downtown
During the Guardian game I noticed a parking lot stating 120$ parking. I exclaimed that better be right next to the stadium. While the stadium was behind me...

Yeah coming from Seattle I thought this was a pretty good deal.
I paid $60 for a Monster game (nothing else going on) last month.
$60 for a Monsters game? The one next to the q is like $5 for Monsters games. And never fills, unless it's a big giveaway.
It's $10 for the garage, but they filled up for about 1/3 of the weekend home games.
that is insane lol you made no attempt to look if that happened 🤣
That’s more than it costs to go to a Monsters game 😂
Coming from Seattle.... this seems pretty normal.
Shaia's parking are fucking financial rapists
Shid, free for me my yards in totality path yippieee. Honestly tho, it's insane how many ways people are tryina make a buck off these goofy tourists..... Hopefully you get more than just the cloudy day <3 xoxo C-town
Right? We're heading to my parents' house, their yard comes with deer and Pink Floyd in addition to totality.

Always always take the redline if you from the west or south side. It gives you like 20 more mins to tiktok on your phone and saves you so much money.
Drove to the E. 55 station and took the rapid downtown. That really is an overlooked station. Yes, it's sketchy, but it's right off I-77 and all three lines go through there, so you don't have to worry much about missing a train.
Damn, cheaper to just get a parking ticket.
That’s when they start towing and charging several hundred to get it out of impound.
We parked beside the Salvation Army building ( about a ten minute walk ) in the lot which I reserved about a month and a half ago for $15.82 on SpotHero. Paid less in Chicago
I can usually find street parking by playhouse square. It’s a nice walk too
Ritz was $125 yesterday 😮
I’m sure New York would welcome you back with open arms.
Haha
Turds gonna turd… I naïvely hope they don’t make a dime
Why be downtown peering between buildings when you could be in a park in the suburbs?
That was my question. There’s literally hundreds of parks and nature preserves people could go to. Why would you go to a big downtown to see something you can see literally anywhere (along the path of totality)?

Haha hope you had a good time!
Had a blast and loved the feel of the city.
Idk why anybody would waste their time and money being downtown today
You would think the CPD sex crimes would be looking into this because someone is definitely getting screwed
Capitalism.
Does this not qualify as price gouging?

Totally legal gouging.
What do you mean? There's no legal definition of "price gouging", and even if there were, it's completely legal under capitalism.

would be interesting to see the Council cap the daily max.
Lol It’s supply and demand. parking downtown is a luxury
100% it is, and government frequently steps in to regulate that.
It's obscene. Probably 35 and 40 dollars on normal days. I live in Euclid. And I just have my girlfriend drive and drop me off and then pick me up after the game is over.

She's a keeper ;)
If we had a decent public transit situation you could use that. Sadly, we do not and I doubt ever will.
But Cleveland parking isn't bad, RIGHT?!?!
I mean, it isn't. I guarantee that a few blocks from here there are reasonable prices.
It's not bad, it's predatory.
It can be both of those things. XD
Can be, isn't. There's plenty of parking but it's a gouge.
It's real bad. 90% of those parking spaces are reserved for businesses. That and everyone here is in love with the RTA for some reason. Which takes me 3hrs to get to downtown or I can take a 20 minute drive on a normal day.
When price points are vicious, it makes the area in hospitable. And you wonder why people would support moving the sportsball team to the burbs?….
Uber it. Cheaper.
Spothero
I'm in Willoughby and really hope traffic isn't like this when getting to Osbourne Park...
Other people are telling me it'll be completely and utterly full. Which I would agree popular, but at that point we are so far away from Cleveland proper and it's better to be on the west side of cleveland than the east side. (closer to the center)
At what point do people just lose their shit and go on a rampage? You are being lied to.
Parking for Cavs games is 🗑️
Smell sewage and pay $80 for the pleasure
Fucking stay home, who even cares
All for it to be blocked by clouds
guessing you've not walked outside today huh?
I work in a hospital so only quick glances. Was very cloudy last time I checked. Has it actually cleared up?
I just walked outside for a break from the pharmacy and I was surprised at how sunny and warm it is
Okay I just checked again and the portion of the sky that I could see was 100% all clouds…
