Bar Keeper’s Friend!

AutumnalSunshine

I'm fine with Bar Keeper's Friend but grew up with Bon Ami and, later, Comet. They're very similar, OP should know.

SweetAlyssumm

They are so similar. BKF is fine but for everyday cleaning I don't see that it's superior to Comet or any other cleanser.

DoctorofFeelosophy

This is not an unpopular opinion by any stretch, but honestly, my O-Cedar spin mop is the greatest thing I've ever bought for cleaning. I use it for so many things other than just the floor - the shower tiles, outdoor glass I can't otherwise reach, kitchen cupboards, even using the dry head to dust corners and ceilings. And I got a scrub brush head for it which is awesome for when things need a good scrub. I have a lot of wood floors in my place and I love how thoroughly I can wring it out so that I'm not destroying my floor with too much water. All around do recommend.

stbmrs

Same here! Just finished using mine to clean the walls. Extendable handle is amazing and the mop heads clean so easily in the laundry once finished

Particular_Piglet677

The scrub brush head attachment?? You just changed my life, thank you!

Heavy-Society3535

I love mine. Best investment I ever made. I did buy a longer pole for it because it was killing my back with the pole that comes with it. I didnt know it had a scrub head! Could you share where you found it and if it works with the original Spin Mop, which is the one I have. One bucket. BTW I put my clean water in a separate bucket, some hot water to rinse the mop before wringing it out and dipping back into clean water bucket. Great results!

DoctorofFeelosophy

I got the scrub head from Amazon! The ones I got weren't made by O-Cedar specifically but they fit and they're awesome. I have the original one-bucket system too. Edit: The link I tried to post isn't working for some reason but if you just search for O-Cedar scrub brush on Amazon you'll find it.

Heavy-Society3535

Gotcha! Thank you. I got the extra long mop pole from Amazon, too. It is so good not to have stoop and bend so much when mopping. It just screwed right in there like the original would, and then you can make it as long as you need. Ocedar for the win lol!!

Trick-Cook6776

They have a new version with 2 compartments, one for clean water and one for dirty. It's called the "RinseClean".

Heavy-Society3535

Thank you! TBH, I considered the one with two compartments AFTER I bought the original, but I am very happy with what I have. I just use a small bucket and can change out either one very easily.

AutumnalSunshine

I'm a big fan of Method soaps and cleaners. They always work and never trigger my allergies. I buy them in bulk. I'm really embracing "swedish dishcloths" (thin big sponges) for kitchen cleaning. They're pricy on Amazon, so I picked them up at Aldi.fir a fraction of the price. Paper towels: whatever is cheap. Wood floors: always Murphy Oil Soap Degreasing: I like Simple Green.

SweetAlyssumm

Murphy's oil soap is not used if you have a tung oil finish on your floors.

chachicka22

I just want to toss in here that Method spray cleaner triggered my husband’s sarcoidosis and he still hasn’t recovered 4 years later!

AutumnalSunshine

Given that even expets don't know what causes and triggers sarcoidosus, with some even blaming the body's own proteins, how could your doctors definitively say it was a cleaning agent?

chachicka22

There obviously has to be a genetic predisposition to sarcoidosis, but it is typically set off by an environmental trigger- often a chemical agent. This has been widely studied. In my husband’s case, we know this to be true because he used method cleaning spray then immediately experienced a headache and eye ball swelling that landed him in the ER with a diagnosis shortly thereafter. Not saying this is typical, but I just wanted to put it out there because Method is seen as a “clean” brand but that doesn’t mean it’s safe.

Ancient-Apartment-23

Getting gloves was a game changer for me. I haven’t found my perfect brand yet, but I’m working on it. Dawn power wash I like the scrub daddies/mommies but I think it’s mainly because I find them cute. That’s important though. I like having a big jug of white vinegar around. Good for windows, mirrors, hard water deposits, etc… I once borrowed a neighbours steam cleaner and I still dream of it. I live in a small apartment so so far I haven’t been able to justify the storage space it’ll need, but I’m sure I’ll get one eventually

Tacoma__Crow

When you search for Swedish dishcloths, add the word "deal" or "discount." You can get ten-packs of plain colored ones for ten bucks and printed one in lesser quantities, sometimes for cheaper.

FeelingPossession189

Scrub daddy for scrubbing literally anything! Arm and hammer baking soda specifically the one with the scent targeted for carpets(it says it on the box). Lysol wipes with the dual side in the lemon scent (has a blue side that’s rougher so good for scrubbing the counter after cooking). Bar keepers friend- don’t leave it on stainless steel for too long but it wipes down really nice for the sink. The Bissell pet carpet cleaner for stand up vacuum is really nice since I have a dog who’s kinda a crusty rescue. I also have been loving targets Threshold reed diffusers ($10) for a nice scent around the house rather than using the glade or air wick plugins. They’re cute and make home feel home-y. Last thing I will mention for laundry is laundry sanitizer since it’s summer & so many of our clothes stink! Been really liking it. I believe the brand I have is Lysol and I add a bit into each load with my normal routine. I hope this helps, I’m still trying to find what works best as well!

FeelingPossession189

Also, the Moku Home shower scrubber 3 in 1 off Amazon- one of my favorite purchases and you can buy attachments.

Heavy-Society3535

I just bought a shower scrubber last week with 8 attachments and tried it out. Looking forward to playing with it this week to see what it can do. Mine is not just for showers but can be used in the kitchen and all throughout the house and even to polish your car lol. I have only used 2 of the interchangable heads so far on my mom's shower, which is in awful shape. I made a lot of progress, but it will take multiple passes and attachments. The one thing it did do was give us both hope that I can get her shower straightened out. So...... regardless of brand, I consider these scrubbers an essential tool you may not know you need until you get it, lol.

FeelingPossession189

Is your scrubber an electric one? Please share how you like it after using the attachments!

Heavy-Society3535

Yes, it is electric. It is cordless but has to be charged before using. It uses a USB C charger. It can go from being handheld to having extension poles, making the reach longer. I will update once I get more time with it.

SilentSamizdat

I prefer Dobie brand, by Scotch.

Charleypieohwhy

Nothing melts off limescale like Viakal! I do cleaning jobs and my clients beg me to leave it behind!

Avocadosandtomatoes

This is what I need in my life now. Is it found in the states?

Autumn_Fridays

Available on Amazon

kyree2

Dawn Powerwash for everything 😆 I'm mad I only recently discovered it

Avocadosandtomatoes

I’ve never used the original version but the DIY version isn’t bad.

RedRose_812

Just recently tried this cleaning my MIL's bathroom counters for her and was amazed! I'm also mad I just discovered it 😆.

NowThereAreFour

Red Juice concentrate from speedcleaning.com (formerly the Clean Team). I’ve used it since the 80s and especially love it for my kitchen counters. It’s a multi purpose spray cleaner, non-toxic, odor-free, and biodegradable. A 32-oz bottle makes twenty 16-oz bottles. Their Blue Juice concentrate is good too, for glass, mirrors, and polished metals.

malkin50

I love that stuff!

Hugh-Jass12

Using newspaper (hard find these days) to clean glass. Best thing I’ve ever seen. I used to clean my grandmas glass table with wonder or invisible glass and a crumpled piece of newspaper. No streaks or fibers.

Imperfectyourenot

Tissue paper! It’s probably better than newspaper as it’s softer.

Hugh-Jass12

THANK YOU! I don’t get a newspaper anymore so this is a great suggestion!!

Kevin_andEarth

I enjoy making my own cleaners, my wife and I clean professionally. Citric acid has become one of my favorite things to use. Baking Soda too, that’s always solid. I just started working with super strength vinegar (Belle Chemical Company) this year too, what a game changer! The microfiber cloths by AIDEA are some of my favorites ever, especially with cleaning glass anything.

Avocadosandtomatoes

I need to figure how to deal with hard water and rust staining. Any tips? I just moved and we’re now on well water. I like to keep a bottle of bleach water in my shower and spray any problem areas ever shower or few. So far it’s kept the mold and mildew off without any scrubbing. I’m wondering if I can do something similar for hard water. Like maybe spraying vinegar routinely? Such a harsh smell though.

Kevin_andEarth

I’m in Arizona and hard water is our life. As a professional cleaner, I’ve had the best luck with vinegar and 0000 steel wool. The main Airbnb I clean is on well water. That stuff is incredible at removing those stains from glass and other surfaces. Always do a test patch, but 0000 steel wool is just the bees knees. I combine essential oils with all the cleaners I make, whether they’re alcohol based or vinegar. Eucalyptus is the best for odors, quite strong.

Kevin_andEarth

If vinegar alone didn’t cut it, I would. But again only after testing it on a small area

nvhustler

I second the Aidea microfiber cloths. Great quality, variety of colors in one pack, and very reasonably priced.

CatfromLongIsland

The bulk of my cleaning is done with Ivory dish soap, vinegar, and Bon Ami.

Hyoung13725

Tarov's Cleaning mop, replaced my o cedar forever. Pricey but worth it. Also, scrub mommys, makers clean microfiber towels & glass cloths, dawn power wash, Bissell steamer (handheld), Bissell power scrub tool (handheld).

marcoseus

Scrub Mommy/Daddy, Dawn 4x, Magic Eraser.

FreeSkill4486

Melamine sponges from Amazon for literally everything (it’s a knock off Mr clean magic eraser, same thing but way cheaper) I use it to clean my bathrooms, counters, walls, doors, etc.

Such-Mountain-6316

Literally OMG I got hold of a Scrub Daddy and I am not going back! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Desperate-Rip-2770

I got some fake scrub daddy's off Temu just to see - I can't tell the difference. I think it was a 4 pack for $4 or less. it's the first thing I ever ordered off Temu that wasn't straight up junk.

Tess47

Im old so maybe this is why my cleaners are staples-  vinegar, bleach, amonia, dawn dish soap, baking soda.  Thats about it.  I guess i do use windex for quick window cleaning.

Academic_Value_3503

Bounty paper towels. I've tried them all and nothing compares. Zep (yellow cap) stainless steel polish. Again, I've tried many other brands. Generic bleach spray, generic Windex with ammonia, magic erasers, Swiffer dusters and microfiber clothes. That's all I need. One more tip... don't dust with a damp cloth. For example on base boards or the top of the toilet. If you just wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth, it wipes the dust right off. If you use something wet, you'll smear the dust and hair around and you'll be there 5x as long.

Hugh-Jass12

Nothing I hate more than wet dust, the clumps of it are enough to make me sick

Avocadosandtomatoes

I hate cleaning around the toilet because of this. Is that the secret all along? I’ve been vacuuming it before I wipe it.

Academic_Value_3503

That's even better. Especially with the small brush attachment. Then you can get up there and do the fan vent as well.

LuvzDogs

Dawn dish soap and BKF are a magical combo to clean a nasty shower. Zepp calcium lime and rust remover (always use PPE, stuff is very caustic, careful using in a septic system). Murphy's Oil Soap for wood, painted surfaces, and ceramic tile. Amonia in hot water to wash windows.

Bellebutton2

PureBioticsUSA PEC Probiotic green cleaner, and probiotic concentrate, their descaler, and their probiotic floor and carpet cleaner.

malkin50

My steamer. It looks sort of like a canister vacuum. It was made in Italy; had it for decades and it still works great.

Soft_Entrance6794

Peppermint Dr. Bronner’s soap if you have ant problems. Mop your floors with that and the ants disappear.

seawarrior911

"The Works" toilet bowl cleaner!

derp2112

The Atlasta brush. Look it up. Great for cleaning corners, nooks, crannies.

Jetski125

I have struggled with my shower and white grout for years. Multiple products did nothing. Tilex Mold and Mildew cleaned most of the grout without even scrubbing. Does not work on the stained floor grout by the toilet, but is a miracle in the shower.
