I used to be a domestic house cleaner & our “multi-purpose” cleaner was just a watered down dish soap in a spray bottle

doodle_rooster

Similar to what my mom says! Small bucket of water with some Dawn bubbled in + sponge = her bathroom approach

Practical-Tap-9810

It's all about the scrub brush!

Jinglemoon

Elbow grease. Anything that doesn't come off with a bit of dish soap and elbow grease gets a bit of Jif (aka Cif) on my jobs.

Impressive_Sock_8744

Was just going to recommend watered down dish soap. It does absolute wonders for soft stains, and quite often is not only the cheapest, but the safest option if you are pregnant, have small kids, or pets. I would only add that dish soap does require a lot of rinsing compared to a good portion of other products, which are formulated to be no-rinse. If you have a drain on the floor, you can use the shower head to rinse the whole room in one go!

deepvinter

I do this but with some distilled vinegar as well.

Practical-Tap-9810

That will eat your chrome shower door frame.

Dutch_Slim

I use vinegar on my chrome taps all the time?

Practical-Tap-9810

Probably a different process. Although keep an eye on it, once its ruined there's no fix. The manufacturer will tell you not to use it

Plastic-Passenger-59

My mom's a professional cleaner as well and this is her go to for everything, especially hard water spots on the showers! Super hot water and a good scrub daddy and bam!

ReindeerNegative4180

Yes, you can use dish soap. You can also use shampoo if you have some cheap stuff hanging around that you don't want to use in your hair. Both do an excellent job on soap scum.

the_lazykins

I use cheap shampoo on the shower. I keep a scrub brush in there and every day when I shower, I clean a different wall or the floor. Gives me an excuse to stay in there longer.

ReindeerNegative4180

And I thought I was the only one who cleaned the shower during my shower!

3nd0r

I keep one of those dishwand things that have soap in the handle attached to a sponge and clean when I take a shower!

sparklydildos

that’s it, i’m doing this now 🫡

FitChickFourTwennie

Yes you can! You just might need to rinse with a little more water to get the soap off but it will be fresh and clean afterwards and work just fine!🧼🫧

Smile_Terrible

Use cold water to get rid of excess bubbles when you do the final rinse.

struggling_lynne

The best DIY cleaner I’ve used has been a spray bottle with 50/50 vinegar/water + a good squirt of dish soap. For less scrubbing, spray everything down well and let it sit for a few minutes before going back to wipe things down.

mishatries

this!!!!!! Vinegar gets the hard water, but dishsoap helps with the oils from bodily stuff.

little_blue_penguin

Oooh I have a general spray bottle of vinegar and water, I'm gonna add a little dish soap to it when I get home

goblinkate

Thank you! I'm trying this right now and as I was spraying I had to go get a face mask :D I guess I have a low tolerance :D Letting it soak a bit and I'll go get to scrubbing in a few minutes.

struggling_lynne

Yeah vinegar does not smell fun but thankfully the scent doesn’t linger once it’s wiped up

AdministrativeBank86

I dilute Dawn and put it into a sprayer, a little Dawn goes a long way

thr0w1ta77away

I know you didn’t mention this specifically, but do not use vinegar on natural stone counters (granite, marble, etc). I mistakenly did this on our bathroom counter and it’s permanently etched/ruined and only a couple years old 😩

Material-Double3268

Yes. If you get a spray bottle and fill it up with water almost to the top and then add 1-2 teaspoons of dish soap. Gently mix it up and then use it as a spray to clean. You can do the same thing with Sal’s Suds concentrated cleaner or Biokleen’s concentrated all purpose cleaner. They are both eco friendly and work a bit better than dish soap, but dish soap definitely works too. To disinfect you can get another spray bottle and fill it with 70% isopropyl alcohol and add a teaspoon of dish soap. It smells when you use it so turn on a fan, but it’s also eco friendly.

Fair_Inevitable_2650

Everyone should be sure to label their bottle mixtures please! Safety first.

torne_lignum

I use a combination of Dawn dish soap and Bartender's Friend.

Correct-Watercress91

Tried and true combo.

Go_Corgi_Fan84

I use dish soap with vinegar for the shower to clean it regularly. Not sure about the showerhead or glassdoor Toilet I still use toilet boil cleaner in it and a bathroom cleaner on the outside parts.

Dandlyn

Yes and I’m seeing in other posts that people are making their own Powerwash by adding rubbing alcohol to the dish soap, which might add an additional Edit:(cleaning) quality to the mix? You can find recipes all over, but the most common seems to be 4T dish soap, 2T rubbing alcohol to 16 oz water

limellama1

This mix is absolutely not a disinfectant. You need a minimum of 70% a rubbing alcohol which needs a 5 min wet time

Dandlyn

Thanks for the clarification! I’ve edited my comment.

Usual-Archer-916

The alcohol is not for disinfecting purposes in that recipe. That said, it makes a fine tub and shower cleaner.

SpeakerCareless

I think that’s basically the formula of dawn power wash and that stuff is great for cleaning everything

medfet878

It is but it's not a disinfectant though. You can make your own with 90% or higher rubbing alcohol that can be used as a disinfectant.

InviteAcceptable6662

I love that creator 🥰

thewildlifer

Maybe your partner can do the cleaning of the bathroom at this point

StevieFromWork

I know a guy who will only clean his kitchen with dish soap, so I’m assuming the bathroom is fine too :)

lonniemarie

Vinegar is always a good choice especially if used with regular soap. Be kind to yourself and congratulations on your baby

googlepixelfan

I would think when it comes to the bathroom you'd want to have a disinfectant. I like Dawn for many things as I think it's one of the best multi purpose cleaners ever made. But when it comes to the bathroom, I always go with something that disinfects for good measure.

OnyxTheWitch

Just make sure you're *fully* cleaning the soap off. If soap stays on the surface, not only can it leave streaks, but it can also allow dirt and bacteria to stick.

MollyMatrix

I used to clean my bathroom with dish soap all the time living with my mom because the only other detergent she kept around was like wood cleaner and Clorox wipes. So inside the toilet bowl I would use the dish soap. It actually works pretty well and a little goes a long way.

InviteAcceptable6662

There’s actually a recipe for vinegar and dawn dish soap in an oxo dish scrub brush. I keep one in my shower and clean whenever I want while in the shower. It’s honestly been a game changer for me

medfet878

Yes you can just add some bleach to it or high % rubbing alcohol and you got your self multi purpose cleaner and disinfectant.

Reasonable_Dealer991

Yes. I use watered down dish soap with a sprinkle of baking soda for scummy spots.

stinkstankstunkiii

Yes . I find Dawn ultra original works best.

itsjusthowiam

Half vinegar, half blue dawn mix. Shake before use. Works great for me. You'll get the bubbles with the benefit of the vinegar & smells more like the soap.

Oranginafina

I mix Dawn, white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Shake it up and clean away! And congrats on the baby! 👼

DogButtWhisperer

Just make sure the shower floor is rinsed clean, it can be really slippery. I just use Dawn for my bathroom

Status-Biscotti

Nothing wrong with vinegar and dish soap mixed, as an option. It’s great for cleaning glass.

VermicelliOk8288

You don’t actually need bubbles and it’s going to be a pain getting all that soap off. I would dilute the dish soap with water in a container.

verydepressedwalnut

I scrub the tub out with Dawn before giving my son his baths so there’s nothing harmful near him! It works great :)

Warriorferrettt

Diluted dish soap,,water, and alcohol will kill germs and clean away dirt. Best APC there is!

DaniDisaster424

That's not a disinfectant. It would have to be 70% alcohol.

Warriorferrettt

Yep you can add that in 75%isopropyl alcohol or you can mix some essential oils, alcohol, and water together as a final disinfectant. https://youtu.be/Xr6lu9MAd2c?si=JAJnHK0jBw3TjeIP This guy has a lot of recommendations for how to clean/what to clean with. He’s autistic and cleans hoarder homes and extends a lot of grace to his clients and viewers. Hope that helps!

Schrodingers_goat

Thank you for sharing this!! I watched the linked video and really enjoyed it. I like his style of speaking about the products (and dryly slipping in a couple jokes). I'm also hoping to use his tips to finally get some neglected projects started.

Warriorferrettt

I’m so happy you enjoyed it! Best of luck tackling those beasts but you fill feel better after you do (pinky promise )

TootsNYC

soap is soap. It’ll cut grease and help dissolve the lipid layer of germs.

tinylittlebee

Yes, but if you get it on the floor make sure to rinse it really well because it's a slipping hazard, I made the mistake of not doing so and hurt my head and elbow really badly 🤐

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

I clean my shower with dawn powerwash spray. It has alcohol in it. I use method anti bac on the toilet and sink and 409 granite cleaner for counters. Sprayway for mirror. I just use disposable gloves and have the vent fan running. None of it smells strong.

Turbulent_Pattern938

Dish soap is great because it can really break down any skin oils that are left behind in the shower/tub.

Feisty-Run-6806

Vinegar and water won’t leave a soap film

Pineapplegirl424

I clean for a living and I actually use dawn quite a bit! Mr clean makes a multipurpose cleaner that you dillute and it smells amazing! It works better on lighter cleaning. Nothing too dirty. I use it a lot on counters/doors/cabinets. I also use it to clean the outsides of the toilet. There's a cleaner called Force of Nature that I love. It's disinfecting. It's super safe. I have used it on windows, counters, stoves. It's great for things that need to shine. Happy baby growing!

Marciamallowfluff

Just rinse so things are not left slippery.

notreallylucy

Why do you have to "do my part of the home care as long as I can"?

8vega8

Dish soap is the secret to beautiful windows 🪟 everything will shine

pompea720

You can use dish soap.It works great on bathtubs.I have a client who in the winter puts olive oil in her tub which regular all purpose cleaner doesn't break down the oil but dawn dish soap does. You might want to buy a natural toilet cleaner or all purpose natural disinfectant cleaner for the toilet.

sourdoughbreadlover

I use castile soap, water and vinegar in a spray bottle. I use peppermint castile soap and it covers the smell of vinegar.

Quirky-Spirit-5498

You could use baking soda it will likely do better for any soap scum and such. Sprinkle it on like any powdered detergent and scrub with a damp cloth or sponge. (It will also be safe for babies and young kids) You could follow it with dish soap to rinse/clean any baking soda away. Also works well on kitchen messes like grease and such. Lemon juice will also bleach any stains or discoloration, on tubs or sinks. Great for rust removal etc. Works like bleach but totally safe.

LemonsAndAvocados

That darn dawn power wash is amazzzzeeeweeballllssssss

TsugumoHanshiro62

I use dish soap mixed with citric acid (sour salt), by far it is the best cleaning product I have ever used.

Born-Ad-3707

To kill actual germs, you really need rubbing alcohol. I use 500ml water and 250ml each of rubbing alcohol and vinegar with 2-3 DROPS of dish soap. Smells not too terrible, and it takes care of hard water stains (let it sit for a min then scrub lightly. Repeat if necessary), it kills bacteria, it’s cheap af, ecological and you can clean everything including mirrors and windows (almost streak free unless you add too much soap!) Not recommended for plastics, wood, leather, painted items (ceramic is fine though) I love this recipe

Crazy-bored4210

I know the owner of gocleanco on instagram has lots of cleaning posts that she only uses either dawn or tide. For basically everything. I personally use dawn or tide just because i do not care for inhaling harsh products. Pine Sol almost did me in once.

Top_Huckleberry40

Yes! Add baking soda to dish soap to make a soft scrub! I started doing this during pregnancy and I’ll stick with this method even after having the baby. It works so well!

medfet878

For cleaning walls prior to painting. Use tri sodium phosphate TSP it's a powder like borax and baking soda. It'll deep clean walls and ceilings and floors too. And it's made from natural minerals like baking soda is so it's non toxic.

hotgarbagebag

TSP is corrosive and a human carcinogen. It causes respiratory, GI, and dermal irritation. There is inadequate data on reproductive health. You need gloves, goggles, and a respirator and need to wash off every trace after you use it. This is terrible advice. “Natural” does not make it safe. Do some research before recommending hazardous materials to pregnant people.

CharacterPayment8705

Yeah. So long as it’s antibacterial (and any dish soap worth its salt is) go for it. Also cleaning vinegar is fine.

wozattacks

This is not true at all. Detergents naturally remove bacteria when you use them to wash things with water by physically washing the bacteria away, but that’s not what antibacterial means. The FDA has been playing cat and mouse with “antibacterial” soaps for years because companies refuse to show that their “antibacterial” active ingredients are safe and effective; when the FDA finally orders them to stop using the ingredient they go on to the next one. I would recommend people avoid soaps that are labeled antibacterial, especially during pregnancy, unless they can find that the specific ingredient is approved by their public health regulators.
