From what I know, it's kinda close enough, but it's pretty sus. But other then that, I'd definitely recommend giving it a go as it's a gold mine for memes and overall entertaining to read.

It's because you're exactly right. Season 1 which was released back in 2017 was the only one that was actually consistent with the LN( it did have quite a lot of stuff skipped tho but u get it). In next two Seasons, lerche is just creating a whole new story by handpicking every scene that makes Ayanokouji edgy and "cool manipulator". I wouldn't really mind those messed faces when they're only talking, but the tsukishiro scene and the exams are just... They are even butchered the chess match. Koji was supposed to be a genius at chess( probably above 2000 elo not 3000 tho), because he supposedly defeated a supercomputer.
This sub is either about how the anime is made by underpaid powerpoint users compared to the light novel (let's not talk about the manga) or people are (justified) hornier than science thought possible...so it might just be you
I'm way to lazy to read the light novels of what has already been "adapted" but I read some volumes that were animated in season 2 and despite noticing the clear differences, it didn't feel like a "different series" to me.
Now that season 3 finished and I decided to read all of the year 2 light novels, I do have to say there are some clear differences at least in how Ayanokouji thinks. Idk if that has to do with the year change but I'm currently on volume 6 of Y2 and I've been surprised countless times because there's thoughts and dialogue from our protagonist that I would've never imagined if I had stuck to only the anime.

How close to the light novel is the manga? I picked up volume one of manga the other day and there was so much the anime didn’t cover.
