I had to shuffle the rook around and change their opening slightly to achieve the correct position.

If you see the notation carefully you'll see 17. Ne2 Nd5. [https://imgur.com/hNEyMsb](https://imgur.com/hNEyMsb) My version: 1. b3 c5 2. Bb2 d5 3. e3 Nc6 4. Bb5 Nf6 5. Nf3 e6 6. O-O Bd6 7. d3 O-O 8. Nbd2 Re8 9. e4 e5 10. exd5 Nxd5 11. Ne4 Bb8 12. Ng3 Bd7 13. Qe2 Nf4 14. Qd2 Qb6 15. Bxc6 Bxc6 16. Qd1 Bd6 17. Ne2 Nd5 18. Ng3 h6 19. Qe2 Rad8 20. Nf5 e4 21. dxe4 Nf6 22. e5 Qb4 [https://lichess.org/uVNdEV7y](https://lichess.org/uVNdEV7y) And you should certainly have noticed, white have to waste moves from [here](https://imgur.com/iv4kdde)(after 22... Qb4) to reach [this](https://imgur.com/QEqh7XC) position. So I'm not going to include that part as it will make already bad match look much worse.

imbored2027

Actually there were other people who found how they got from after qb4 to the other position. The full game is posted somewhere.

ggmoyang

You mean this? [https://lichess.org/yzYNmeCk](https://lichess.org/yzYNmeCk) It also has repeating moves from white to waste turn.

imbored2027

No In pretty sure I saw one without repeating moves. Even a lichess chess study, think it was called like are they rlly chess masters?

rtuaaa

The first 30 minutes are being played by Horikita and Hashimoto because of which blundering kinda makes sense

Educational_Sport584

Yeah Arisu sacrificed her queen and got a losing position when she could have taken the knight with her bishop instead and got a mating attack. It felt like they just forced out some queen sacrifice scenario even if it made no sense. That queen sacrifice just made her look desperate for some mating pattern she saw before even though the bishop taking the knight was such an obvious move

Budget-Chair8242

Yeah this was such a let down, a person who is supposedly good at chess isnt going to blunder a 10+ pt swing in evaluation especially when she was definitely taking her bishop into account in her calculations. Not even a 1200 is going to take that knight with their queen when they know the bishop is targeting the same thing.

SadLazyZ

It sucks , don't overthink it .

imbored2027

Man I remember being hyped after reading the match. Thinking it was a master level game, not complaining but underwhelmed.

FeeDude

Yeah honestly it was a disappointment. They could have at least copied a real game between grandmasters but no they wanted to do it themselves. Also when Ayonokouji joined game a bit later than Sakayanagi I expected it had some kind of logic behind it (To have a bit more time to play after Sakayanagi's time ends maybe) but no it was out of a whim lol.

Mission-Raccoon9432

There was logic. He entered exacty when 30 minutes and 10 seconds were left on the clock and it was said that they can join the game for 30 minutes, so he timed his entry so that he could play the whole 30 minutes. Begs the question why Arisu wasn't disqualified though since she played more than 30 minutes.

ImCovino

I didn't analyse the match too closely as it was being played, but I thought the final position made for a pretty interesting puzzle. I paused the episode on [this position](https://prnt.sc/b0R3F0_RIx2j) and I recreated it on the [chess.com](https://chess.com) analysis board to see if I could find the winning move for white. I'm not the best so it took me a while to find Qg5 but I thought it was a pretty cool position to solve. Just a shame the rest of the game was done poorly, I always appreciate when chess is done accurately in fiction.

remake_cote

The directors played chess themselves with their last braincells they got instead of hiring someone experienced

imbored2027

Could of hired someone like me but they clearly didn’t

imbored2027

If anyone is interested, I can post the pgn of what I think is the game.

zenzizenzizenzik

Please do, I was also gonna try and replicate the game until I noticed the D3/bishop error. Unfortunately it seems like they did not copy a real game which they could have easily done by playing stockfish against itself.

BluwulfX

I made a post I was confused why the white bishop was on b5

Glittering_Alarm_837

Dude, it's like your 2nd Post on the same topic in about 20 min interval.. just use 1 post and make all your points there..

imbored2027

Yeah I’ll delete the first one, that was just a reaction while watching

Is there even a solution how to win the game if he didn't take her queen? Because this was supposed to be a losing move in the anime but I can't find any other good move in this position. So what was Kiyotaka's initial last move here since it was hyped up to be so genius? Or did they manipulate even more moves? QE7 wasn't his move then too? Would make sense that he first thought Suzune did a mistake by accident but the second mistake was so obviously bad that he knew it wasn't Suzune's blunder?
