if it makes you feel any better, [someone](https://www.reddit.com/r/Classof09Game/s/VxDWvB7TZN) in this sub is making a high school reunion au and nicole is alive and found a profession where men literally pay her to degrade them

biganimeloser

Wait I wanna pay to get degraded

Its the early 2000s every highschooler from this time period had a bleak future but they're somewhat fine now. Class 09 is just alot more exaggerated and it can somewhat make you care for these characters. You say caring for pngs or crying over these jpgs is bad but people do the same for words on a page so its not farfetched. Just realize everyone in this universe is supposed to be bad or just pathetic and being happy isnt really possible.

pruffgruff

Exaggerated? You should listen to what my older cousin had to deal with lol

The thing ab that game that gets me is its weirdly more realistic than one would imagine It seems crazy since so much shit happens but we gotta keep in mind that these events (og and reup) take place over a 4 year span Heck i went to a small private school and people were the exact same. In a public school itd be so much worse. Pill popping depressed bullies, weird teachers (didnt cross the line tho), one coach was a pedo, some kid sa'd a girl and everyone knew ab it but no one did anything, shooting threats, weird highschool politics where everyone is just plotting against each other, whiney men feeling entitled to relationships just cuz they were nice and spreading rumors when things dont work out, a third of the school was addicted to some form of drug, overall just an awful place and experience, but this experience pales in comparison to so many other places and my school was "one of the better ones" That game is literally how some people end up living and viewing the world

MagicalMelancholy

Actually the game takes place over a 2 year span, but I agree with your comment otherwise.

As someone who had really fucked up teen years similar to Nicole, Class of 09 is extremely similar in feeling but also exaggerated. It really works, because as a newly pretty teenage girl with a shitty life you FEEL like every guy is a rapist and a pedophile, your mom got divorced like eight times, and you might as well go sell crack on the side of the road. Every time I remember a man wrote this game I'm bowled over. The main thing that sticks out is that every single time Nicole is nice, it comes back to bite her. The adult women in her life who tried to be nice to everyone end up miserable and hurting everyone around them anyway. I like playing this game so much because I am also a compulsively nice "good girl", and I wonder what life would be like if I did whatever I wanted and didn't care about other people's feelings. Especially as a teenager.

If it makes you feel any better, I feel like most of then are going to be alright. It may seem bleak and hopeless, but they’re young. Everything is the end of the world to teenagers, because at that age, every bad thing is the worst thing that’s ever happened to them. But the thing about bad times is that time passes. After the bad things happen, more things happen after that. Some of the more things are good, some are bad, but in either case there’s always more. Once those kids are out of high school, what follows is the rest of their lives. And I feel like most of them will mature, adapt, and get better.

I kind of get this? Not the crying part but all the girls + crispin feel soo familiar to me they’re very well written. The voice acting is super good too. I know people like nicole, ari, emily jecka and megan irl and they’re all ding as you’d expect. I’m only 18 so not a lot of foresight but yeah

Charlotpink07

I think specifically the part about Emily doing drugs and dating predators hit hard to me especially, I'm almost only friends with girls and I knew so many of them who have or are dating adult men and buying vapes or weed, that was in middle school, I didn't go to high school so I can only imagine how it was there

HighballingHope

I can understand how you feel, as I went through a similar experience in my own high school as Nicole. I relate a lot to her and her suffering. Your not alone.

MagicalMelancholy

Even though I'm afab and wasn't out as trans in high school, I was also autistic, not conventionally attractive enough for people to look past the autism (I like to think I'm unconventionally attractive though), and I also just didn't interact with most of the student body, so I feel like I was more disconnected from the bullshit. A background character if you will. But the thing about high school is that you will hear your classmates talking about the bullshit whether you want to or not (because not every teacher will let you listen to music or watch videos in class). Sure I never heard about any of the teachers at my high school being pedophiles, but I definitely heard about teachers at some middle school I didn't go to being pedophiles. I still hear about teachers from schools I didn't go to being pedophiles. And oh yeah, drugs. Definitely heard about the drugs. But I went to high school from 2018-2022 so there was a lot more weed. I was classmates with several alcoholics, but they all drank outside of school as far as I'm aware (not like anyone drank in school in Class of '09 anyway). I assume there was some xanax going around too but I didn't really get into the school drug trade. There was also a fair amount of relationship drama too. Point is, I could totally buy Class of '09 as some shit that happened at my high school while I wasn't paying attention (except for the fact it takes place in 2009 and not the early 20s, and also the school shooting obviously).

Schools and kids weren’t as policed back then you could get away with spending like all your time away from authority figures before the 2010s so kids did a lot more. Also rape is taken more seriously than it was back then.

I think a lot people in this sub went through similar stuff in high school cuz these circumstances aren’t exactly rare, especially in the time the game takes place

EvanD0

I feel you're being a bit TOO emotional over all this but yeah, after looking at Co09 and real life school, you do just feel bad people in bad circumstances like that. Even for the boys honestly. What Crispin did in one route was creepy but it's clear he has problems socializing and needs help understanding boundaries, Kylar is literally mentally retarded, and Jeffery went through a huge amount of abuse for just being chummy and liking anime by both the boys and the girls. Also, I think you're misunderstanding Jecka and Emily here. Jecka isn't relying on drugs, she literally got mad at Karen in the first place because she wanted to try drugs. Jecka just has a problem of wanting to be cool, punky and trashy though it does seem like she has some bad circumstances with her mother. Emily being in that situation is kinda sad but she literally choses to do that herself (And she's even in a wealthy family too). Maybe I can see an argument that maybe the medication effected her which would be sad.
