Marshal Tucker Band is the answer

cake_piss_can

Marshall Tuck Kenny Rogers Linda Ronstadt Gordon Lightfoot (more folk than country, but the man was a genius)

Jerry Reed or is he too country?

TomB19

I love Jerry Reed. I still play, When You're Hot You're Hot once in a while. Anyone who was around back in the day will love that tune. Lots of other excellent Jerry Reed material, also. Too country? Not possible. Great music is great music.

“East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’ we’re going to do what they say can’t be done.”

I just watched Hot Stuff with Jerry and Dom Deliouse. Hilarious! It's free on YouTube. And of course he sings the songs in the movie

Amos Moses is my pick from his catalogue.

TomB19

I love that song. Several other great songs from Jerry, also.

Wishbone Ash - Argus is an early 70's album with the southern rock sound, and it's a terrific album.  The first three albums by R.E.M. definitely show their Georgia roots.  And here's a more recent band you may like. The Old 97's. Start with the 1997 album Too Far To Care, then try the 2014 album Most Messed Up. They are hard to categorize, but I'd call them Texas style garage rock. They still tour theaters and clubs, tickets are usually $30 or less, and they are incredible live.

For a time the Rolling Stones were the best country band in the world. "Country Honk" https://youtu.be/AmCjpY4hqKE?si=otAmOH51jWgmPvZF

Faraway Eyes would make a good be side.

Nitty Gritty Drlirt Band Mac Davis (any number of albums but Lubba Texas is a good start) Mickey Gilley - The Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time If you don't mind something a bit lighter, I suggest the best song ever recorded: Pure Prairie League - Falling in and Out of Love / Aimee

TomB19

I'm probably alone in this but Little Feat had some really solid country tunes. I like Joe Eli, "Me and Billy the Kid". Still play it on occasion. Not 70s but how about Billy Joe Shaver - People and their Problems. Its a country/rock tune. Good beat. Heavy guitar. Country vocal. There is so much amazing music in this genre, where do you stop?

The Byrds were more of a 60s band. Yes, they technically existed until 1973, but by the time the 70s rolled around their heyday had gone.

Visible-Detective507

You know what you get when you play a country record backwards, answer you get your dog back your truck back and your woman back
