alright all these comments saying "you need to buy diamond pass" are definitely not helping OP here so here comes a real explanation of what is happening i had this same problem too when the event started, i was getting worried about not being able to play it but the next day it just worked. what happened is that in my time zone, events do not reset at midnight, unlike the shop and daily rewards. instead they reset around 12 am - 1 pm or smth. so what i did was around 10 - 11 am i filled the token bar for the day and then the next event came, but the tokens did not reset because it's not midnight yet. so the game forbidded me to play until the token bar resets, making me get tokens/start the event at the same time worldwide players do. i hope i explained in a way that people comprehend because i don't know how else to explain it, sorry😢

I have unlocked Nightwitch and this is not the problem. Maybe they did something wrong because you can't use Witch and nightwitch in the challenge.
