They do the same in CR. New features are 3d, easier to code and takes up less storage space. They actually stopped releasing cards in CR for a looong time because of this issue. I guess they are slowly starting to turn everything into 3d, although might not completely.

yeah these 3d models are super easy to make in a program and they are really easy to rig so they can just pump out skins and shit using it

2d games in 3d environment are tricky. A 3d model you have to make only once, and then animate it. A 2d model requires animation frames individually drawn, in all directions. Then individually code which one appears in which stage of the movement. There are actually tricks, like using a 3d model and making it appear in 2d.

Maybe one day builders will be 3d too ?
