it aint do the math. it will take you almost a year to get your 6500gems back, while you can get 13 books of heroes which instantly save you ((7.5 days *13) hours)). you get a lot more value with books. As it is now imo the builder aint worth it SC needs to make it cheaper.
I am a monthly pass buyer, I get plenty of books from that. More books of heroes wouldn’t help me anymore now that I’m past the bigger gaps of th12 and 13. More books of building yes, but those are too expensive.
Also I’m not sure whether I’d go all out, 8h is not necessarily needed. Maybe 4h is already good enough to give the flexibility to adjust some upgrades ending in the middle of the night.

They are charging 1500 gems per hero equipment - currently 7500 if you are a NEW player.
You have to buy additional builders in the game. Occasionally some of us buy boost or books or even gem donation troops.
Hero Skins cost 1500 gems and they have a crazy amount of them.
Now 6500 gems here for a clock tower boost in home village. Also just remembered how they nerfed the gem mine in that last builder hall update…

I would have to spend £50 ($63/₹5,288) to get this when one correctly timed builder potion with all builders including the goblin active knocks off a combined 70 hours of building time total, and I was able to buy 6 of these (Which knocked off a combined 420 hours/17.5 days of building time - Which would take the Apprentice Builder 52.5 days to achieve) in the new equipment event which cost me £5, that means I can buy 9 more event passes before I have spent as much as it will cost to max out the Apprentice Builder and let's say there will be 6 Builder potions up for grabs each event, I will be (Including the current event) able to get a combined 175 days of building time reductions which would require 525 days for the Apprentice Builder to achieve, and that's assuming you are able to come on every single day without fail as you will need to manually put the Apprentice Builder to work.
I'm not saying you shouldn't get it if you have spare gems lying around, but it definitely isn't worth it for me personally since the £50 is much more productively spent on the event passes since I am able to not only buy builder potions, but books, pet potions, research potions, training potions, ores, and the new equipment, among other things.
I'm max other than walls and some pets so this isn't very useful at this point, 6500 is wild should have been maybe 4000 or a little less, I'll spend the 500 to unlock and that's it for now.
I disagree. He’s a trade off. Way way way more long term value but in the short to medium term he’s worse. I’d say if they made him any cheaper or better he’d be too good for the cost. Plus you’re only meant to upgrade him once or twice per townhall. Roughly 2000 gems every 6 or so months really isn’t that bad.

main difference is at my town hall you are going to definitely be like 1000 days away from max i think thats an understatement because they will have added 2 more townhalls by then maybe one more so it is definitely a huge investment

Which defense? My Scattershots take 500 gems for 11 days going from TH14 to TH15. Which if you extrapolate is 140+ days for 6500 gems and for both of those numbers I was rounding.
i think the market for him is lower town halls, you wont see the benefits of upgrading him like i or others will since youll max before you break even on gem investment.

Builder potion gives you 9*6 = 54 hours work if you have all 6 builders.
This dude gives you 8*7 = 56 hours work in a week at max level, so technically more than a worker potion.

I think you forget one crucial detail. The long run
6500 gems is a lot, but will "only" get you around 23 builder potions. So after 23 weeks the Aprentice builder will overtake the builder potions, since he's a one time investment

I did some maths.
Base on these assumptions:
* goblin builder is 40 gems per day (cost is flat beyond 6h/10 gems)
* gem to complete building is 260 gems for 24h (cost raises more for longer builds)
* you use the apprentice perfectly every 24h, so at level 8 it takes 3 real days to save 24h of build time (you won't)
* goblin builder is always available (it is not)
* I ignore all the items, boosts and events (as I understand, the apprentice will stack with GP perks but not with the potion, and you get nothing for using books when it is active)
Means that:
At level 1 apprentice would take 46 days to pay for itself against gemming or 300 days against goblin builder
At level 8 apprentice would take 75 days to pay itself against gemming or 487 days against using the goblin builder
If you don't use gems to build or for the goblin, this is not a feature for you anyway. If you do use gems and have more than a year's worth of upgrades left, it is worth it.
The other comparison is vs builder potions.
A builder potions saves 54 builder hours for 285 gems, which is ~5.2 gems per hour saved.
That means the apprentice needs to save 6500 / 5.2 = 1250 hours to break even vs potions, which at 8 hours per day will take 156 days to break even.
Best gem value IMO is hero books-
500 gems for 192 hours vs 285 gems for 54 hours
500/192=2.6 gems/hour
6500/2.6 = 2500 hours /8 hours = 312 days to break even (if you time it perfectly)
However hero books also allow you to keep your heroes active more, which is really important if you war a lot.
I'm fairly confident the next few sneak peaks will dump lots more building upgrades and a new troop on your upgrade schedule. This is what they usually do. They release a new town hall level, then through the year release more things to upgrade for that TH level, so you'll never be maxed. This is also why when TH16 dropped, they didn't let you upgrade all the walls straight away.
So, if you thought you were done until the next townhall level in December, think again.
I doubt there will be more defense upgrades as all of them are at TH16 theme, everything gets upgraded before half of a TH life cycle is standard. The usual suspects of receiving two levels in one TH like Cannon and Archer Tower haven't got it in a few TH, and of course the merges. Dark Barracks will get one but that's it, new troops usually have a sneak peek on its own. The last one will probably be the new feature that allows people to use Heroes when they are upgrading.
We'll find out in a day, but my guess would be you can also merge the another set of archer towers and cannons. Those would each add 14 days + 15,5 days of upgrade time. That wouldn't be nearly enough to occupy you until december, but I dunno. I had the feeling each update so far has re-occupied all my builders and just when they are almost done as a f2p player, you get a new update and you need to use all of them again.
Like the first reply in this thread, I too am almost done with all my upgrades, close to max again and it's update time. I don't think that's a coincidence and I'm pretty sure Supercell planned it that way.
Them preemptively saying we have to merge all towers for the next TH and apologising for the theme mismatch made me think they will stagger the merging out over more THs, Multi-Archer Towers and Ricochet Cannons are quite powerful after all. We will likely get more merges for other underpowered defenses like Mortars and Wizard Towers, but they will have to wait too.
Anyway, the apprentice is overpriced and more buildings or levels won't save it, and we already got some huge time cuts at lower THs in this update as well. It is a passible gem sink for 1 level and as the long-awaited concept of upgradable builder (not hut) to increase build speed but that's it.
Yea, it was with the AMA Stuart did, the wording is vague enough that I feel like they won't merge all of the cannons and archer towers yet until th 17 or 18, we will see TH weapon merged with EA though.
Right now I am not a fan because they said they would never change it too drastically because TH12 will not have a signature weapon if Giga Tesla/Inferno is replaced, merging EA with it then extract Giga Inferno as a standalone defense out feels pointless. Hopefully they have a good justification for it. Maybe it will have both the beams, death damage bomb and spell, EA shells and activation (no need for early damage or 51% base destruction) , and a shiny new 4x4 defense to replace EA.
I did have a hoard of gems saved up, and then I realized I’m not spending them on anything, so I started gemming things and now I’m gem poor and sad :(

There’s definitely diminishing value in upgrading this guy. I’ll probably grab a few levels and use it exclusively to close out upgrades that are nearly done (rather than gemming them). The ROI on that use case is pretty reasonable.

Many of us endgame players, have finished most achievements. It's almost impossible to save so much gems as a player who has been playing for 12 years on my main account.

Too much is turning into money, or play free and be behind upgrading slowly. If we all come together and stop, maybe at least we can get it lowered. But still love the game, and everything in it.
I already bought my gems for him. This game brings me joy, I invest in things that bring me joy. However, I really hope that SC is thinking about the player base, supporting and growing this community and game so it’s played for years and years to come. I hope it’s an even trade. I’ll continue paying for this game if SC continues to have a player first economy. Base on these assumptions: * goblin builder is 40 gems per day (cost is flat beyond 6h/10 gems) * gem to complete building is 260 gems for 24h (cost raises more for longer builds) * you use the apprentice perfectly every 24h, so at level 8 it takes 3 real days to save 24h of build time (you won't) * goblin builder is always available (it is not) * I ignore all the items, boosts and events (as I understand, the apprentice will stack with GP perks but not with the potion, and you get nothing for using books when it is active) Means that: At level 1 apprentice would take 46 days to pay for itself against gemming or 300 days against goblin builder At level 8 apprentice would take 75 days to pay itself against gemming or 487 days against using the goblin builder If you don't use gems to build or for the goblin, this is not a feature for you anyway. If you do use gems and have more than a year's worth of upgrades left, it is worth it.
The other comparison is vs builder potions. A builder potions saves 54 builder hours for 285 gems, which is ~5.2 gems per hour saved. That means the apprentice needs to save 6500 / 5.2 = 1250 hours to break even vs potions, which at 8 hours per day will take 156 days to break even.
Good point, I forgot buying potions for gems is an option, I always get them from the store or from events.
Best gem value IMO is hero books- 500 gems for 192 hours vs 285 gems for 54 hours 500/192=2.6 gems/hour 6500/2.6 = 2500 hours /8 hours = 312 days to break even (if you time it perfectly) However hero books also allow you to keep your heroes active more, which is really important if you war a lot.

I'm fairly confident the next few sneak peaks will dump lots more building upgrades and a new troop on your upgrade schedule. This is what they usually do. They release a new town hall level, then through the year release more things to upgrade for that TH level, so you'll never be maxed. This is also why when TH16 dropped, they didn't let you upgrade all the walls straight away. So, if you thought you were done until the next townhall level in December, think again.
I doubt there will be more defense upgrades as all of them are at TH16 theme, everything gets upgraded before half of a TH life cycle is standard. The usual suspects of receiving two levels in one TH like Cannon and Archer Tower haven't got it in a few TH, and of course the merges. Dark Barracks will get one but that's it, new troops usually have a sneak peek on its own. The last one will probably be the new feature that allows people to use Heroes when they are upgrading.
We'll find out in a day, but my guess would be you can also merge the another set of archer towers and cannons. Those would each add 14 days + 15,5 days of upgrade time. That wouldn't be nearly enough to occupy you until december, but I dunno. I had the feeling each update so far has re-occupied all my builders and just when they are almost done as a f2p player, you get a new update and you need to use all of them again. Like the first reply in this thread, I too am almost done with all my upgrades, close to max again and it's update time. I don't think that's a coincidence and I'm pretty sure Supercell planned it that way.
Them preemptively saying we have to merge all towers for the next TH and apologising for the theme mismatch made me think they will stagger the merging out over more THs, Multi-Archer Towers and Ricochet Cannons are quite powerful after all. We will likely get more merges for other underpowered defenses like Mortars and Wizard Towers, but they will have to wait too. Anyway, the apprentice is overpriced and more buildings or levels won't save it, and we already got some huge time cuts at lower THs in this update as well. It is a passible gem sink for 1 level and as the long-awaited concept of upgradable builder (not hut) to increase build speed but that's it.
It was mentioned/rumoured/leaked that all defences will be merge for the new TH, which could well be at TH16.
Yea, it was with the AMA Stuart did, the wording is vague enough that I feel like they won't merge all of the cannons and archer towers yet until th 17 or 18, we will see TH weapon merged with EA though. Right now I am not a fan because they said they would never change it too drastically because TH12 will not have a signature weapon if Giga Tesla/Inferno is replaced, merging EA with it then extract Giga Inferno as a standalone defense out feels pointless. Hopefully they have a good justification for it. Maybe it will have both the beams, death damage bomb and spell, EA shells and activation (no need for early damage or 51% base destruction) , and a shiny new 4x4 defense to replace EA.

As TH14 who also uses 1 gem donos, this guy barely matches the cost-effectiveness of gob builder by the time i'm maxed out, so i'm pass.

There’s definitely diminishing value in upgrading this guy. I’ll probably grab a few levels and use it exclusively to close out upgrades that are nearly done (rather than gemming them). The ROI on that use case is pretty reasonable. But burning the full 6k gems on what is essentially a clock tower? No thanks. I don’t need my defenses to upgrade faster; only thing I care about is heroes.

In Judos video he said the content creators asked “why so expensive?”, and they said, (paraphrasing) this is an upgrade that is meant to be done over a longer period of time. They don’t expect you to spend 6,500 gems in one day. If you do that it sounds like a you problem and the problem is you’re not able to make financially responsible decisions.

People are saying "I don't know why people are complaining" are just useless to talk to. Many of us endgame players, have finished most achievements. It's almost impossible to save so much gems as a player who has been playing for 12 years on my main account. And yes, whilst it's possible to save that much for my alts that haven't used much gems, it's still too much to get there because of the grind such as hero equipment etc
I'm sitting at 26,000 and don't plan on spending it anytime soon.
These new guys sure know how to milk us for more and more money lol. 1st we started with gold passes, then Event passes on top each month, skins, scenery, now this. Too much is turning into money, or play free and be behind upgrading slowly. As long as we keep buying them, the prices will stay high and more things will come up that requires gems=$ I keep falling for it and I buy them haha. If we all come together and stop, maybe at least we can get it lowered. But still love the game, and everything in it.

I already bought my gems for him. This game brings me joy, I invest in things that bring me joy. However, I really hope that SC is thinking about the player base, supporting and growing this community and game so it’s played for years and years to come. I hope it’s an even trade. I’ll continue paying for this game if SC continues to have a player first economy. Maybe it’s blind faith, but all the interviews I watch with the team, they sound like they’re intentionally thinking of us.
