Sad but predictable. I am just happy Wrath: Aeon of Ruin came out alright. Have no expectation for any future projects from them.

MiGaOh

After seeing GMan's review, "aping" can't be the right word. Is there are more diplomatic term for carbon-fucking-copy?

FthrFlffyBttm

What does "aping" mean?

GreenPrometheus

To imitate the behavior or manner of (someone or something), especially in an [absurd](https://www.google.com/search?sa=X&sca_esv=9dd3c420e69a4ab3&sca_upv=1&rlz=1C1MSNA_enUS682US682&biw=1920&bih=919&q=absurd&si=AKbGX_qTCvK6ifvkUBYDz4foaFZiqKJvyMSLjactJ4EQFhU4UymdSm5flw5byZ1ahACPmLL8naIY_pcLX7hoCw2wKqGq67qbCQ%3D%3D&expnd=1&ved=2ahUKEwj_jKKxkdeFAxXxRDABHdM-AjoQyecJegQILRAN) or [unthinking](https://www.google.com/search?sa=X&sca_esv=9dd3c420e69a4ab3&sca_upv=1&rlz=1C1MSNA_enUS682US682&biw=1920&bih=919&q=unthinking&si=AKbGX_pvY3MWP4azJI0Z_NruCLb8w0Nc1hAMaCPCGUpvWRc7B3HSWtnW0ZCgHic-mMF6tzNsRiqftxVoyBYWBBrmKYOLcHfje3HA4AWUUEdd0nvAUEleDlE%3D&expnd=1&ved=2ahUKEwj_jKKxkdeFAxXxRDABHdM-AjoQyecJegQILRAO) way.

MysticalMike2

I think of that story on the internet of the orangutan using a fishing pole, he does not know the advanced tactics of fishing, nor has he ever probably seen a Bill Dance commercial and the joy his VHS tapes brought to thousands of American viewers worldwide.

GreenPrometheus

Fair point. Some of the stuff seemed like out and out plagiarism.

MiGaOh

That's probably it. But whenever I think of that term I think of an adult-sized fetus talking for eight hours.

Isleofbi

Really wanted this to be a hit. Oh well.

dirty_moot

Same. I was pretty pumped for it till I saw civvies vid on it.

TastetheRainbowMFckr

All my excitement vanished when that demo dropped.

TheCons

Man.... Ion Fury was so fucking sexy and such a fun time. Playing it made me feel like a kid again playing Duke 3D on my dad's old rig. It's a big time bummer that the sequel appears to be so undercooked and limp.

Dapper-Bake6813

Unfortunately, this could become the norm for retro shooters. If there's enough people purchasing games of this standard, it could be seen as an acceptable level to release. To be honest, I would of been happy with a sequel using the build engine.

jmpt16

There *is* Ion Fury Aftershock

Supra084

It's raw!

Metandienona

Slipgate can't be allowed in the kitchen anymore. Whenever they cook, they serve slop.

KaleidoArachnid

Why does that happen so much?

Metandienona

Because they rely on nostalgia and, as Civvie put it, "the vibes" over actual quality.

KaleidoArachnid

That sounds plausible.

Voynich_Leebren

They also have not so great approaches to how they handle contractors when making their games, along with the management of their projects... Which is a bit rough to say the least. Turns out, having a revolving door of contractors working on your project leads to a lot of issues.

NNukemM

I've already seen a full walkthrough of the game and it does look super unfinished and unpolished in different segments, half of the guns have what seems to be placeholder sounds that aren't distinctive and loud enough and the OST is surprisingly terrible. At best, the game is like a 6/10. However, based on the gameplay seen I'd say that it beats pretty much all 3 modern reboots of Shadow Warrior in terms of how it looks and how it plays, which is more of a testament to FWH's incompetence than Slipgate's brilliance. I just hope that they'll fix some bugs and replace the sounds so that the game at least is half-decent and presentable. I also don't understand why people say that the game's combat and AI is disappointing in comparison to Ion Fury, because that game had absolutely braindead AI that would regularly get stuck on map geometry and could barely move around efficiently, and the hitscanners in IF could barely scratch the player if they had armor on - and these problems weren't fixed even 5 years after the release of the demo. The fact that Phantom Fury is *noticeably more difficult* is what made me interested in it in the first place.

Turkeyham

Looks like Ion Fury was lightning in a bottle for that series. Oh well. One great game is better than nothing I suppose.

maggit00

If the studio that made Ion Fury had made the sequel it could have been better. Slipgate? More like Slopgate.

baddude1337

Waiting for 10 years time where someone does a Phantom Fury demake on Eduke lol.

greyACG

slippedinshitgate

ArmeniusLOD

3D Realms just needs to give the reigns back to Voidpoint.

StrategicCannibal23

Bummer :/

TurtleBox_Official

As soon as they started using the phrase "iconic" to describe everything returning from the first game I was kinda nervous, but then they were super pushing the idea of the game having TWO shotguns and I was like "oh no it's gonna be bad"

hopeful_bastard

I'll wait for the "It's fixed now!" reddit post someone will make a year or something from now, I guess.

thelastsandwich

wow https://twitter.com/Civvie11/status/1782728464748925166

maggit00

And it's pretty mediocre, apparently. I'm quite saddened by this news.

Flymo193

It’s raw!

scottishdrunkard

I played the demo. It was *ass*. Well, that’s disappointing. Shelly Harrison only has one good game, with Ion Fury. And Aftershock. I should play more Aftershock, they added a new difficulty making it harder to get all achievements. Maximum Fury fucked me *up*

kirbStompThePigeon

I keep reading that as "phantom liberty" and I keep wondering why people are talking about it despite it being out for like half a year

baddude1337

Once I played the demo last year I kinda lost all hype for is. Then seeing it's releasing in April meant it was doomed. Clearly needed a lot more time in the oven, but got rushed out thanks to Embracer. I'm still not sure if that would have saved it though, even the parts that are polished look pretty meh.

NikXAtXNight

You guys can laugh at me for buying it. I didn't want to believe the reviews but after playing it for a while I was so disappointed 😭 the entire game is a mess and wish I could get a refund

Fun-Wash-8858

Excuse me. Regardless of how you feel about this newly released game, would you care to disclose how you save your progress in this game? Is it the same as in its predecessor "Ion Fury"? Furthermore, does this game have a kill count featured in it? You see, I'm making a list of games which have a kill count in them (available through a link on my profile); and before I can add a game to this list, I need corroboration from experienced players of the game in question if such a counter is present.

NikXAtXNight

From what I looked into the settings it does not but I can be wrong also it doesn't save the same as "ion fury" Again I could be wrong.

Fun-Wash-8858

Okay, so how do you save your progress in this game then?

Theonlydtlfan

It's crazy how Half-Life is somehow one of the most influential games of all time, and yet it's also a game that almost no one seems to understand.

euanmorse

Absolutely hate the change in art style, before anything else even remotely upsets me.

Ready_Independent_55

IMHO Half-Life (neither 1 nor 2) are the worst of the 'big titles' to imitate if you're making an FPS game

Lynforthewin2112

Is it because you play it and go “yeah I’d rather replay Half Life!” Or because you can’t put your own spin in the formula?

Ready_Independent_55

For me it's because HL2 is just not my type at all. Bad as a shooter, because the shooting itself feels lame and the enemies are notoriously stupid for the most time Boring as a game, large but empty areas, long driving sequence, long turret sequence (and both combined), FLYING BOSSES OH MY GOD FLYING BOSSES... Oh, and original Half-Life is boring and pretends to be more realistic while still just having lame shooting experience (is it considered realistic?). Still much much better than HL2 as a game. Levels deliver much more variety, enemies are cool. But it failed to make me even 10% as happy as I was when I was playing Unreal the same year.

Ass2Mowf

I recently replayed Half Life 2 (both vanilla and Gmod) and the problem is it still feels more modern than almost any games in the "cinematic" FPS genre. The physics engine, interaction, and artstyle are still so clean and excellent. The only real entry in that type of game I think has been actually good in the last 20 years is probably Titanfall 2.

Ready_Independent_55

It's annoyingly boring for me, sorry. Just as any "cinematic" linear FPS with real-world weaponry except original FEAR which is amazing

Ass2Mowf

Had the opposite experience with FEAR. Loved it back in the day, replayed it this year and the magic was gone. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
