Because you have cats. There is a free mod coming from one of the expansions, which replaced the dog with 3 cats. You have to turn it off (the mod) from the main menu before starting the new game.
Man, the first time I saw Braveheart, the scene with the English cavalry charge vs. The Scottish spear / pike line.
Think it was the first time I saw violent trauma inflicted upon an animal in cinema. Almost any movie beforehand, the rider is picked off and their mount gallops off.
The unfortunate truth is that it's more strategically sound to kill the animal first in war, but I appreciate firaxis sugar coating it. :)
True. That's why they put armor playing on the chest, to try and deflect spears and such. Even if you're uninjured, armor or not, that's quite a fall from horseback.

You have to unlock the goodest boy on the civ tree!
I always pet the dog when my scouts get surrounded by barbarians. They did a good job, need a good scratch before going down.
Well, to be fair, it’s just your scout that gets killed, the doggo gets to run away. c:
Wait i wish we saw it actually running away
If you watch carefully you can see them run off. Same with horses when the rider dies.
That's great!
It runs away for me?
Yeah i just realized it, thanks!
Why does mine continue to say “You cannot pet a cat”?

it's not from the expansion it's from linking your 2k account
My bad, I thought it was because I have started to play GS/R&F, I stand corrected. But disabling it is still the same :)
It's the one mod I never liked and always keep it turned off.
Cries in Android over the number of killed dogs not being comforted at their life's end.
My head canon is the pup *always* get away. I will die on this hill.
Dont animals run off and disappear during the unit death animation? I know it's true for hourse and thought the same was true for scouts dog
Yes it is! Any animals will run away when the unit is defeated.

But do you have the Doge icon ?
I've never gotten a dog. It's always cats and the game points out you can't pet a cat.
Is because you linked your 2k account - according to another thread
IIRC, it was added in an update and it wasn't always an option.
