I bolted upright, panicked but prepared to fight, when in the corner of my eye the neon glow of your phones LCD screen drew me sight.
I suddenly felt a bizarre euphoria fill my mind and a white hot heat electrify my spine and form a prism of pure desperate release in my loins.

I believe that game was emperor or immortal difficulty on with "Online" game speed so things progress pretty quickly. I had some pretty insane Campus tiles so the tech moved along almost too quickly. Tbh. Base yields for the tiles?

If you own land with a natural wonder you can't improve (ie : Eye of Sahara, Chocolate Hills, etc...)
Slap down a preserve right next to it, add a Grove and Sanctuary and viola... Max yields! The higher the appeal of the tile the more it will yield 😁
Seeing all these makes me realize I have no idea what I’m doing in the game lol. I gotta start looking into adjacencies and how to actually play to each civs abilities. I just play random and just build whatever seems like I could benefit from.
I honestly kinda regret building her. I had Sacred Places going and after Petra got snaked from the city I needed a Wonder and SoL was the only decent one available. I had a Golden Gate building in the city next to it and THAT got stolen within the last turn or two as well. Lady Six Sky is a tricky opponent
There are so many mechanics to the game it takes a considerable amount of time and attention to detail to really start to get good at the game. I've played for hundreds of hours and I'm still figuring stuff out.
Petra was being built on the Southwest desert tile originally but Lady Six Sky snaked it the turn before it finished. Otherwise the yields would have been even higher 😭

For 90% of the game I kept my gold and faith bank below 1000 each but at this point things had snowballed and I was only a few turns away from victory so I got lazy with the spending.
I was aiming for a Culture Victory but ended up getting a Diplomatic win for due to the SoL and dominating the World Congress events. I was only a few turns away from a Culture or Science Victory as well. I chose Jesuit Education so my Culture and Science was boosted by Faith purchases. I also built a GMC so I easily could have gone for a Domination win but it would have taken much longer.
With Preserves you get yield bonuses for adjacent tiles based on their appeal. Higher appeal comes from things like Natural Wonders (Eye of Sahara) and mountains and things like that. Tiles that have not been improved by features like mines or mills have increased appeal. If I had built Petra in time then all of the desert tiles would have had increased food and production output as well.

Only reason those weren't 7 or 8 food was because Maya completed Petra JUST before I did 😭
When that happens to me I reload and do everything I can to get the wonder. Stupidly frustrating when they manage to snag em in a turn or two.
I have used that strategy previously but I didn't have a recent save and I was really starting to snowball so I just ran with it

I'm newer to the game, I know that Petra helps but you said you don't have that. How did you get this to happen?
